I'm not seeing free shipping? Got a hat & a back scratcher in the cart…no option for free shipping.

Edit: I am a moron, didn't see the part about registering an account.

    • +2

Same.. I created a new account and still showing up as $9.99 Shipping for some reason..

Ahh, Don't use PayPal Express as it tries the payment before the removing the shipping

  • +1

@The Judge - you need to create an account to get free ship

    • Thanks…got it to work.

    • +2

I got mad but then I just felt bad for you. Hope things turn around soon

        • +9

Not everyone is as desperate as you

        • +13

That attitude wrecks it for everyone.

@King Tightarse: Oh come on, that's totally against the Ozbargain spirit…if a big company wants to leave a loop hole open, that's on them.

            • +7

@The Judge: Everyone makes mistakes from time to time - sure grab on or two but endless freeloading is kind of greedy and pathetic.

@King Tightarse: Don't hate the player, hate the game.

                • @The Judge: Which judge do you base your username on?

                  • -1

                    @SpainKing: Blood Meridian

                    • @The Judge: But he's a kiddy fiddler :o Solid story though

                      • @SpainKing: Debatable characterisation (literary types squabble over it) but that's a background note to the intriguing & complex (and despicable) character he is. I like the book but it was the hardest to read. I've read all of McCarthy's other works - which are brilliant - and prefer others (particularly those preceding BM) better.

            • +1

@The Judge: A company is at fault for leaving a loophole open yes, but that same company is responsible for dispatch.

At a certain level they'll just cut their losses. After that they'll just cancel. They'll have what they want, sales and email addresses to spam. You'll rightfully get nothing for being greedy.

            • @The Judge:

@King Tightarse: Oh come on, that's totally against the Ozbargain spirit…if a big company wants to leave a loop hole open, that's on them.

Imagine being a member since 2021 and telling me and King Tightarse that our Ozbargain spirit is wrong lol

    • NFI why you're getting downvoted for exploiting a loophole like we would with any other price error or similar scenario.

      • +2

These are the same people who then complain and "boycott" (LOL) companies who cancel everything because they're not going to ship 20 items to every person for basically free.

        • Nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose. Not sure how / if the company bothers with oversight in terms of multiple accounts anyway. Again, if they didn't want it to happen (and it must only be a small minority who does it - for what, overpriced clothing?) they wouldn't issue universal discount codes.

          • @The Judge: So your whole reasoning is it's alright to steal from someone if they left their window open. Actually this is more like inviting the whole street in lol.

            for what, overpriced clothing?

They don't make the overpriced clothing, they onsell it after buying it for inflated pricing so their profit margin is nowhere near that of the surfing brands. They also deliver by free express post on every order, that's not cheap. Especially if they're sending 20 different consignments to the same place and getting virtually nothing back from either the shipping or the clothing.

Small minorities ruin things all the time..

            • -1

@pennypincher98: Stealing? LMAO talk about pearl clutching. Once is OK, but any more than <insert arbitrary number> it's now theft. Note there's nothing in the screenshot / fineprint about limit of one per account / customer / address.

I'm really not understanding the crocodile tears on behalf of a big company. No one seems to care if Officeworks/Amazon etc etc have a price error and they get rinsed, why is SDS any different?

              • -1

@The Judge: You're defending this person by not knowing why they are getting downvoted. Their whole deal is making multiple accounts. That's what people have an issue with.

You're comparing Wesfarmers and Amazon to SDS??

                • @pennypincher98: "NFI" is rhetorical. What I can't understand is the logic that seems to be selectively applied. SDS has 75 store locations…they're not a local independent surf shop.

                  • @The Judge:

                    "NFI" is rhetorical

Yet you are the only one to have upvoted them.. Logic is not selectively applied at all. It is was in the interests of SDS to have this promo code used only once, so people should only use it once.

Knowing now they were recently acquired by Authentic Brands, which does US$22B in revenue however I still don't condone the practice, but I am less opposed in a sense.

Not to get on a moral high horse but taking more than you need at the expense of others shouldn't be contingent on the size of the company.

                    • @pennypincher98: Oh right, now we're in the business of looking out for the best interests of megacorps, and we should all play by the rules (that they make up). Man thanks for the chuckle…first it's sTeaLinG and now ethics are being dragged into the conversation. Time to hand in the old OzB licence old son, you aren't living up to your username.

                      • @The Judge: If we're going to play that card, let's talk about how many times you've shifted the goalposts to suit after you've realised there's no defending what the original commenter did.

There's much more of a difference between purchasing and receiving for the consumer compared to the company. It's a shame you can't realise that. It's also a shame you can't realise that I said I literally just found that out and could've easily excluded the information as you didn't know any better either. It's people like you that made the Australian based company go into debt and require a foreign buyer, which by the way benefits no one. It's clear that the only person you care about benefiting is yourself, yet you'll be the first to turn to expect help from society from professions you have no knowledge in.

See you're living up to your name just fine of hypocritically judging people while not wanting to be judged yourself. Real classy bud keep it up.

                        • -1

@pennypincher98: Haven't shifted shit pal, you're mad at the player when you should be mad at the game. Might want to check if Anusol is on sale, your bum is clearly hurting.

                          • -2

@The Judge: It's okay if you can't see it because everyone else can. Resorting to childish comebacks rather than an actual response in order to protect your fragile ego is as pathetic as the people who can't realise their actions affect other people but themselves.

I'll let you have the final word if you wish because I know how important it is to you to think that you've "won".

      • +3

Its pretty obvious why theyre getting downvoted. People being greedy and mass creating accounts to exploit the loophole only lowers the chance of the company going through with the promo for everyone ordering. Ozbargain is all about sharing good finds, so Its kind of an unwritten rule to not sabotage the deal for everybody else.

        • -5

Let me know how that goes the next time there's a pricing error on anything worthwhile.

    • Also getting this error.

@neil Isn't it unfair on the business that they are only targeting a member, and so many people are availing the offer unbeknownst to them?

    • +2

Except this isn't 'only targeting a member'. They would have an exclusive single use code if it was targeted.

    • I wasn't a member. Just signed up for their marketing emails and never bought anything.

  • Is the cheapest item available the $7 back scratcher?

  • We're sorry that your order could not be placed. This probably happened due to a high order volume or temporary connection errors. Please wait a few minutes and resubmit your order. • Cheapest product?

        • +2

You can probably get 2 products that add up to somewhere around ~$20.30 but better off getting something you need and pay a little more.

  • Thanks OP, got a tote.

  • Got a Billabong beanie! Thanks OP

  • $2.99 belt, this will hold my pants up nicely

    • +2

Was thinking of getting the belt but Kmart has decent ones around $4. I suppose you can probably make that argument with a lot of their stuff.

      • +4

everything surf/skate branded is pretty much same kmart quality + $20 for logo.

so you got a few frisbees and backscratchers then?

  • Frisbee looks cool.

    Are there any men's frisbees? I don't think I can throw a women's one…

    • yes, be very careful or results may be like the hulk throwing a coaster

Cheers OP ordered a Billabong beanie for $2.99.

    • A bit of fun on Monday!

      • And angry people on Tuesday thinking this company owes them something 😂

I'm all for people throwing their hat in to the ring and getting an order in, but those not only ordering but expecting half the store for free are pathetic.

If I worked in dispatch here what I'd do is search for any duplicates and cancel any information that appears more than once :)

        • +1

You can have 10 people living under the same roof plus using one sharing card i.e. a family of 10. Who knows

          • @Bii: You can have two people independently sharing rooms in a house that have the exact same name. You need to think of the odds of that versus someone just wanting to get two orders though.

It's 99.9% accurate and the 0.1% were never going to reorder anything anyway let's be honest.

Let's remember my key point: you shouldn't expect multiple items for free just because a loophole meant you could purchase them at that. The company is well within their rights to cancel and every extra order gives them more reason to.

            • @pennypincher98: If it is a decent deal, there is a high chance that people reorder. This is true most of the time.

If the store doesn't limit the number per person. Yes, they are ok with multiple orders or multiple accounts. It seems to be ok if it's 2 acc for a person, 5 acc for a family of 4,10 acc for a house of 8 or so. They can have stock limitation etc to limit what can go.

If they want to honour just the original emails that received the code, they can cancel the rest, but this is a very bad experience both for them and the customers.

If we look at the marketing view, this $20 is not a lot compared to the $100 Temu, $125 Hello Fresh, $20 JB, and more.

              • @Bii: Bad experience for them how? The people who would order from them are still going to, the people who are only after free things aren't going to reorder after this deal expires. They have the emails and sales records to say it's been their "best year yet" or some BS. You get jack.

You lost me when you compared this to Hellofresh lol.
Hellofresh charges for postage, is a subscription based service and relies on predatory tactics to earn money (like sending debt collectors).

I'm not even going to go into detail about marketing because it'll fly right over your head if you think that's what marketing is.

                • @pennypincher98: Thousands of orders got cancelled + a loophole… how this is not a bad experience? This could be a critical record for their company. People don't order today doesn't mean they don't order tomorrow. That's the reason why many rewards programs offer trials or freebies for new customers to catch up with losing old customers.
Only they themselves know the percentage of return customers. They are the ones who hold the data. It differs from business to business.

I love to hear what marketing Temu and Amazon do if you can share. Good to learn!

                  • +1

@Bii: This promotion was only sent out by email and not by any other means. They can easily look at who actually received the email and not. If they wanted to, they'd be able to cancel all orders that didn't receive the promotional email.

Everyone makes mistakes in failing to see the potential implications so the promo can be pulled with the click of a button and online orders can be filtered by keyword (such as promo code) and batch cancelled. Things go back to how they were, except now they've got a lot more on their mailing list ("new customers") and a lot more web traffic and 'orders' which statistics will skew into a good thing.

Those on Ozbargain can hope it gets delivered but they shouldn't expect it. The truth is the stock in their warehouse can and will be sold to another customer for $20 more. They've got storefronts people will continue to visit and few retail competitors for surf clothes. The real kicker is unless people actively delete accounts off their database, they haven't lost any customers either. A few thousand cancelled orders isn't much. People still use companies with significant data breaches in the millions, which is a lot more of an issue than getting an order refunded. They don't even have to provide a true or any reason for cancellation, they could simply say they don't have stock and how would you know?

There's no room to move legally either, look at the terms.

                    Terms in the email:

We reserve the right to exclude any other product and/or remove all promotions at any given time. Information and prices subject to change.

                    Terms on their website include

Surf Dive 'n' Ski shall have the right to refuse or cancel any such orders whether or not the order has been confirmed and your credit card charged.

Amazon works on economies of scale and customer service. Customer thinks "oh cool I can keep this $3 grocery item and get a refund!". Amazon sees it will cost more than $3 to get it back to the warehouse. This saves money and builds strong customer relations. Of course there are many different marketing strategies a behemoth like Amazon use and some are real dirty but here's one that works for both parties.
