        • Mike Ybarra (Blizzard President) himself played D4 on his Steam Deck, works fine

    • -2

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can even play battle.net games on the SD, since it's not running Windows?

      • Ye and it's not listed on the steam store. So probably have to do some annoying hacks to get it to work

        • Probably an almost 0% chance people wont hack Diablo 4 onto this thing though, unless it has some crazy anti cheat.

        • If you consider downloading an exe file and doing an extra step to install and run it then yeah sure 'hacks'

      • +3
      • +1

You can install the battle.net launcher, pretty easy to do overall. No hacking or modding etc. Once set up, you can run the battle.net launcher from the steam client. Haven't installed anything from there yet as I'm waiting on and SD card to arrive.

      • You normally can play most third-party games (barring games that use invasive anti-cheat systems), it's just more annoying than the sleek experience you get with Steam games.

  • Very good price given original price 399 USD is already around 615 AUD.
The seller's review rating is a bit concerning though…

    • +2

And American prices don't include tax so it's pretty much in line, if not cheaper than the exchanged value.

    • why so? seems fine to me

      • +1

97% positive feedback for an Australian eBay seller is considered generally bad. That's Chinese eBay seller level % bad

    • I bought one and got one from him a month ago for 750 -_-

So can confirm seller is legit.

  • -1

Damn I just bought the switch OLED a few days ago.

Should I get this too? Already have a PS5 and XSX 🙃

    • Its an atl. You should buy it no matter what.
      That is the ozb way

      • Thanks for the encouragement. Got one.

Now I have too many gaming consoles lol

Now I have too many gaming consoles lol

          Only 2 hands.

          • +1

@superforever: Spoken like someone who didn't grow up with the N64 controller :D

    • +2

Depends on whether you already have a lot of games on Steam & whether you want to use a handheld device to play them.

    • +3

I am sure you don't need it.

But if you really want it and have money to spare, why not?

      Life is short.

Worst case scenario you sell it on Ebay of FB in a couple of months if you find no use for it.

    • +2

This is a great companion device to a gaming pc or PS5 as you can use remote play(not sure about Xbox). I also find the switch too limiting in terms of available content.

I have a Steam Deck, gaming PC, PS5 and Switch. I've primarily used the Steam Deck since buying it a few months back.

    • +2

      You need all of them

      • +1

The answer I was looking for :)

Missed out on $659 but got it for $699 with $20 cashback

  • Couldnt help myself, bought, esp at ATL

  • Incredible price. If I weren't broke as hell, I would purchase one as gift for my girlfriend.

    • +7

      Dw bro, I bought for your girlfriend ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • +7

Oh thanks dude, never knew she had such generous company!

  • +1

So annoyed, I bought the one from Allphones when the sale started. Now I wish they didn't ship so damn fast as I opened it when I got it the next morning. Oh well.

    • +1

Same. I even waited until yesterday to order one (and then it got processed twice so had to cancel on of those). Oh well. Can't win the ozbargain lotto every time 😅

    • $50 difference isn’t too bad.

  • 11.7 inch deck, thats pretty long

  • Can anyone comment on how comfortable it is to play/hold the Steam Deck on your bed either lying flat or on one side? Do your arms get tired quickly?

    • -2

On the pot its fine .

    • -2

      Have to ask your partner?

    • +1

It's so much more comfortable than you'd think when you see it. I can barely go a full match of Fortnite on my Switch Lite without getting at least a little cramp in my right thumb. Steam Deck, hasn't happened once. Hand's fallen asleep once or twice, but never been uncomfortable.

  • +9

WTF. I just bought one. How did that happen.

    • Got it yesterday. Wow this thing is big. A little heavy for extended use but great for casual gaming.

The ability to put it to sleep and resume is great. I can now actually play and enjoy some games from my library of shame.

  • -1

Has anyone tried running Fortnite on the SD? if so how easy was it to run? Frame rates?

    • +2

You can search YouTube for "Steam Deck [Game]" and there'll be someone who has tried it.

      Looks alright from this demo

    • +1

Personally, I've had pretty decent performance just doing it through the xCloud service (you don't need Game Pass to do that, Fortnite is free for everyone), and if you have solid internet, this is a solid option. Best thing is you don't need to deal with the constant updates, or have it eat into your storage. From what I gather, you need to install the Epic Store and some workarounds and anti cheat and whatnot, idk, either way, definitely worth at least trying the xCloud version if you buy a Deck. It runs the Series X version of the game, but AFAIK (could be wrong, mind you) it's limited to 1080/60.

  • +2

Damn, just pulled trigger on one and now it's cheaper

  • +1

Good deal, there is a 2tb 2230 hard drive on aliexpress that many people are using to upgrade for about $247 with tax.

However I found another 2tb for around $180 with tax from a large aliexpress store that also seems fine. I can't paste the links here as it think it's spam but you can dm me if you need them.

  • It was temped to me before, but one of my friend told me there is a new machine silimar but with much more powerful performance than SD.

I can not remember that brand, I may need google.

    • +1

Rog ally. More than double the price tho and locked into windows os.

      • +4

it's not actually locked into Windows. U can install steamos on it. While it kind of works it's not ideal. If the rog modding community is large enough someone will definitely make a proper compatible build.

    • ASUS Rog Ally. Will be $1299 from JB hifi

  • +2

They way I see it, it's half the (best?) price of the ROG Ally, yes it's short on storage, so $60 bucks to add in a microSD card, then it's $500 cheaper than the ROG Ally, and it still does quite a lot of stuff.

    • +1

Worth noting it’s much more efficient at low power usage (10W) and performs better than the Ally when using that much power.

Of course it gets thrashed at 15W or more.

      • DF tested them at 15w with identical settings and the Deck lasted 2hr 16m and the Ally 1hr 41.

Worth checking out on Eurogamer as they have charts.

        • I found this better than DF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOMiEI7ojd8

The custom Valve chip is pretty good given the battery. Hopefully in a few years, battery tech improves so you can get a more decent amount of time out of these.

          • @cnut: Yeah I do my best to steer clear of social media influencers. They're an arm of the marketing department.

            DF are far more reputable.

            • +1

@wishing well: If this guy was meant to be an influencer and arm of the marketing department, he just showed in that video the ROG Ally getting crushed by basically every other option at low TDPs.

Seems like a poor way to market a product to me…

DF barely touched on low TDP/more comprehensive testing because that's not really their focus.

              • @tmr3: Yeah this dude seemed pretty objective to me.

              • -1

@tmr3: When a global corporation hands a Youtuber with trivial subs exclusive access to critical new hardware they do so because the dude is a poppet who reads from the script.

It's a cynical manipulation but an especially effective one with fomo ponies who lap that shit right up.

      • +2

I can suspend my game, wait for a whole day and come back to start at the same place at the steam deck

The Ally will never do that,

This is just one example, so the experiences in both will never be the same

        • +1

instant start & sleep is critical for casual gameplay when you have kids

  • Ok finally caving and getting one lol

  • does this seller send AU charger or AU adapter ?

    • +3

You can't even get a switch at that price.

    • +12

It's already $300+. You're good to pounce now.

    • +4

keep waiting. By time its $300 its probably e-waste in 2027

      • Blasphemy! Your licence to have retro in your name is hereby revoked. lol

        • +1

everything hits an all-time low. The Nintendo DS was really cheap at one stage but has become rare again. I assume steam deck will be the same. But its ewaste in that no one will be doing pc gaming of them cause much better handhelds will be around

    • -2

      Who asked?

      • OzBargain, it suggests you to share your thoughts!

  • Sold out at $659 already.

    You snooze you lose

Is $679 still a good price?

    • +4

      Yes.
Check out the price history on OZB.

      • I hesitated and went out to do grocery shopping and the $659 price was gone.

Still got one at $699 with $20 ShopBack.

Westpac lounge ShopBack should give me another 2% cashback? I got that for the switch OLED I bought a few days ago.

        • do you need to add the westpac debit card to the shopback account?

Also where it said you can 2% back on ebay purchases?

          • @pinkybrain: Yes I added my Westpac credit card to my ShopBack account.

On the home page of the app there’s a tab for Westpac and it says 2% bonus cashback for eBay.

  • Damn I just bought one the other day. this is about the price I would expect valve to charge if it was officially launched here.

  • +1

still use code PWE22 to get it for $699.66 delivered

    Jacked to $730.

    $712 here.

      $659
it was a special promotion by ebay and 3 sons seller..

unfortunately they are not going to keep the price at 699 promo price over this weekend

  • +1

valve might sell the steamdeck in australia in 2043, the support and warranty!

    • I'd rather have replacement parts.

  • Purchased Sunday arvo, shipped Monday night. Pretty good service!

Any recommendations on docks and cases? There are so many different ones on Amazon and AliExpress…

    • +2

I'm just using the first-party case. If I did go third-party, I would get the Dbrand killswitch.

As for docks, if you already have a USB-C dock or hub or Thunderbolt dock, it may work already.

  • Mine arrived today. Did anyone else get a resealed box? And the serial number looks removed and seems to have a previous postage label that was also removed. Looks to me like it's customer returned/refurbished. I've compared it to the box from Allphones which looks like it's factory sealed.
