First time post, full time lurker.

Went to check dell's annual EOFY and came across this by accident.

Was hoping for Muzeeb to bless us with some cheap alienware monitors for EOFY but found this instead. Checked yesterday evening and it was sitting at $814. Possibly the cheapest its ever been with Uniday code?

Price reference below for codes you use
UniDay code - $490.04

Have been looking at getting a Gigabyte m32u but comparison wise this beats it by a small margin in picture quality and you lose the USB C upstream.

  • hello everyone! has anyone calibrated their monitor? I calibrated with my old Spyder 3 and I will share the profile below when I get back to my PC.

I took RTings suggested settings as a starting point (Custom Colour mode with reduced blue gain) and calibrated on top of it. the results are good (more natural whites and photos and websites look with improved colour fidelity), but the calibrating tech is kinda dated, that software is probably built for Windows ME.

does anyone have a modern calibrator? could you share your profile

    • +1

here's the link to calibrated profile: link

      monitor settings used:
      Preset: custom color
      Gain: 100R - 100G - 94B
      Brightness: 77
      Contrast: default 75
      everything else default

Calibrated with Spyder Pro 4 with pre-warm and everything, to 6500K ~180nit

      • How do you know / calculate what nit you're on?

        • on my unit with the settings above (preset, gain, brightness, contrast etc) that's the brightness measured by the calibrator in the middle of the screen

          • @shabaka: Ahh I see, I have a Spyder 5 Express and I think it doesn't do brightness measurements :(

            • @timliu1996: nice! did you try calibrating? what did you get

I never had newer Spyder products (still have good old Spyder 3), usually rented X-Rite 1 from local photostudio, but not sure they still exist

              • @shabaka: Spyder Express just show you before/after calibration picture previews, doesn't show any data like pro/elite version ones. Looks definitely better compare to stock tho

                • @timliu1996: would you be able to share (Google drive?)? I would like to compare how my spyder 3 fares compared to up to date options

icm file can be found under windows -> system32 -> spool -> drivers -> color

                  • +1

@shabaka: Hi, sorry for the late reply, this is what I got with the same setting from your Spyder Pro 4 post.

                    • @timliu1996: nice :) thanks a lot, mate. I kinda like it more, warmer colors without distortion. I guess my spyder needs a refresh

                      • @shabaka: As a normal user I really wish we can just rent a calibration device for a cheaper price, just for irregular basic monitor calibrations. I got mine for $160 second hand but it will take a long long time to make the money worth it

                        • @timliu1996: https://borge.com.au/ places like this one rent them out. it was like $22 rental for calibrator for a day, or $11 for half a day (plenty of time to calibrate)

damn, can't find it in the menu anymore

July replacement just shipped fingers crossed.

  • +1

Just got my July replacement of the same model confirmed. What a shambles for people who never got the offer

    • +1

Wow, I was told new stock coming and I've been waiting till July but never thought it would eventuate. I hope all this waiting is going to pay off. I've registered my new ticket for replacement. Cross fingers.
Was it a new or refurb?

      • +1

Box was dirtier than the original, no plastic film on it anywhere. Everything looks brand new though, and the monitor actually works.

No idea how to get to a service menu to check for hours.

  • Also just got my july replacement confirmed, says estimated 14-21 working days to be built and shipped

  • mine arrived perfect condition however there was no peel off plastic like the first one still no problems and working great box was also tattered and resealed.

    • +1

mine was from the original batch (means I got a working one from the start), and there was no plastic to peel off

    • i never had peel off on my original June one.

  • Mine just developed a dead pixel, and a smudgy-looking black dead pixel today after 2 months of use!! FFS!!

    • :(

      • +1

Several more appeared, 13 in total, tech was awesome. Sent them images, and they're sending me a replacement today.

Never seen a screen perfect for almost 2 months lose its poo in one day!

        • Could you please share the dead pixels picture I might got the same? Thanks.

          • +2

            @Xzibit: Literally looked like this:

            https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/i9supc/xps_9700_is_th…

            And this:

DELL sent me a refurbished model. The stand was horrid and was leaning, so I switched it out for my original stand. I noticed on the side some of the hot glue remained, a slight loss of finish on the top sides, I guess they crack it open there and put a new screen in. Not really an issue.

Other than that it looks new.

I noticed the screen is better than my previous one, it switches faster to different signals, so far no dead pixels, it had the new firmware installed already, the screen was calibrated already and less noticeable white glare when black.

So all up, refurbished was miles better than new (I reckon the new screen they put in is an upgrade). I did comment about the loss of finish on the top and the dried glue inside, but was happy with the performance than risk another screen due to cosmetics.

            • @RocketSwitch: Much appreciated, there is only tiny one on my screen, but I will keep it for now unless it’s getting bigger and worse. A bit disappointed that they only sent you a refurbished one though.

              • +1

@Xzibit: Yeah, I told them about that; they said they mainly use refurb for warranty and if I wasn't happy, they can exchange it again. But, all I care about is the screen quality, and it looks like they just replaced the screen on this unit. I reckon lots of dead pixels with this tech.

            • @RocketSwitch: Good to hear that it's sorted. They must have brought in a lot of panels.

              • @Mostly Fanless: lol, the refurbished one just developed those shaded dark dead pixels today. Off I go back to support. Something off with this panel that's for sure.

  • Any chance this monitor will come back for sale? Dell still sell it on their store in other countries.

Makes no sense to discontinue the only 4K 144Hz monitor in your lineup.

    • Edit: It's back now on the website.

      • For the low low price of $812.90 including GST and delivery.

        • +1

          $755 with 7% off code

Garbage compared to this deal but still a decent price historically it seems.

  • Anyone have a screenshot of original price? Missed the deal but have one of these on my 28 Degrees and can price match possibly.

  • anyone have a dual setup of these monitors? which gpu are you using and how's it going?'

edit: if you're in perth, im keen to get 1 or 2 units, hit me up.

  • I've been sitting on this for a couple months, waiting for my new PC build. Finally get it all up and running, and its (profanity) DOA

Will start the return process tomorrow. Seems like from everyone elses comments that its been a major issue

    • +2

Probably shouldn't have sat on it for a couple of months.

  • For all the DOA mentions in the post, mine has developed a VERY odd issue. Starting to think the longevity of this monitor will be pretty shit.

My PC randomly rebooted mid game, wouldn't show POST or display anything on the monitor.
Fast forward about 2 days of ripping the guts of my pc to bits thinking things had well and truly broken.
Found out when the monitor is connected to my PC on DP the PC will not POST, disconnect it and power the PC up again and it's fine.

Connect monitor after PC has booted and it's fine, have no idea if the monitor internal PSU has failed and has live current going down the DP cable. Flashed to latest BIOS and it's still doing it.
