First time post, full time lurker.

Went to check dell's annual EOFY and came across this by accident.

Was hoping for Muzeeb to bless us with some cheap alienware monitors for EOFY but found this instead. Checked yesterday evening and it was sitting at $814. Possibly the cheapest its ever been with Uniday code?

Have been looking at getting a Gigabyte m32u but comparison wise this beats it by a small margin in picture quality and you lose the USB C upstream.

    Monitor uses DSC if that matters to anyone since its hdmi 2.1 bandwith is limited to 24gbps. On a totally unrelated note, I love hdmi 2.1 naming scheme since it's as good as usb3!!!

        Console ps5 mainly, it has no DSC capability so only 120hz or something.

            @zubzub: I found this on the rtings review:
            The Dell G3223Q has a Console Mode that doesn't have any issues playing games from the PS5, thanks to the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. As the monitor is limited to 24 Gbps of bandwidth instead of the full 48 Gbps of HDMI 2.1, it displays chroma 4:2:0 instead of 4:2:2 because the PS5 doesn't support compression. This makes text clarity a bit worse, but it doesn't affect the gameplay experience.

    would the S2721DGF be better for gaming? i bought one recently but i still have time to return it. I play alot of competitve games but also enjoy my story games and i also have a 6900xt which i assume is enough for 4k.

          Once you go 32 you won't go back. For me it's the sweet spot for a monitor. Any bigger and it might be too big unless you go into ultrawide or curved

            @superforever: No, it’s different. For TV you don’t need to actively look attentively from corner to corner when playing games, for example. It makes it much more tolerable when watching movies where you don’t need to move your head a lot even though you sit 1.50m from a 85” TV. In fact it would feel more immersive I think.

            But try to do the same, eg sit 0.5m in front of a 43” monitor but play games or do some work instead of passively watching movies or YouTube and you will soon find it’s hard to continue after 30’ or so.

    I have a Dell Latitude 4520 (Intel i5) notebook and Dell D3100 docking station. How do I connect the Dell G3223Q monitor to the docking station to get the full 4K output? Any help will be appreciated.

      Check your docking station specs. My work dock only allows for 4k 30 so I'll have to connect this direct to the USB-C port with hdmi cable to get 4k 60 and forego the dock.
      Unfortunately laptop is older and can't do anymore than 4k 60

      You'd need to connect by DisplayPort. However the dock is apparently limited to 30Hz so not much point with this monitor. Better to connect directly to a TB port on your laptop.

        Thank you ‘cyrax83’ and ‘fancooled’. I am not a tech-savvy person, so please forgive my ignorance. This is a Dell Latitude 5420 i5 which has 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports. Now the question is what cable I should buy to connect to Thunderbolt (TB) port? So, one end to the ‘DisplayPort’ of the monitor and other end directly to the notebook TB port. Is there a special cable I can buy or do need an adopter. Many thanks.

      me too. I am wondering whether it is better to game at 1080p/1440p higher settings rather than 4k mid range with this monitor. As I have a new MB I might try the arc 770 8gb boards which are low $400's but havent found a review on midrange setting for it yet. Don't want to spend $600+ on a graphics card.

    Had the monitor I paid $755 for early last week delivered today. Reached out to Dell again to try get a refund of the difference and they had refused because the student discount code was used. Basically said if you didn't use that we could have, but you did so we cannot.

    So looks like I'm processing a return, which will cost them time and money. Odd.

    I did purchase another one at the $500 price once the sale was released just in case this happened, just means I'll have to stare at the box here now and wait for the new one to arrive hopefully over the next few days.

      found this, in short, it is 24Gbps on HDMI. It will give you 120Hz max, 4:2:0 without DSC, better with DSC.

      But specs say:
      Maximum Preset Resolution
      3840 x 2160 at 144Hz (with HDMI 2.1)
      3840 x 2160 at 144Hz (with DP 1.4)

      Something is not right …

      Someone fixed his 60Hz problem with firmware update 6 months ago.

      Dell G3223Q does work at 144Hz 4K on a mac! , they were using USB-C to DP1.4 "8K" cable. I give up, lol, until i have my hands on the beast
