First time post, full time lurker.

Went to check dell's annual EOFY and came across this by accident.

Was hoping for Muzeeb to bless us with some cheap alienware monitors for EOFY but found this instead. Checked yesterday evening and it was sitting at $814. Possibly the cheapest its ever been with Uniday code?

Price reference below for codes you use

Have been looking at getting a Gigabyte m32u but comparison wise this beats it by a small margin in picture quality and you lose the USB C upstream.

      • No luck for me. Guess it'll be Friday

  • Received mine yesterday, Works flawlessly. Tested with 3060ti Desktop, PS5 and Xbox series S. All works fine.

  • Using DP I can only get 120Hz

  • For those watch Apple TV on Windows, and previously get sh** resolution using the browser, I've just found this useful thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/109h571/apple_music_…
Tried it, 100 times better than using browser :)

    • Unable to access the link

      • Its the reddit blackout.

  • Thanks OP, received my monitor this morning.
Does anyone got any tips to get a mac to display at >60Hz with this monitor?
    Specs:
    - Laptop = 2019 16" MBP
    - Cable = USB-C to DP capable of 144hz at 4k
    - OS = Ventura 13.4
Of note, using the same laptop and cable I got it to display 144hz at 1440p on a Xiaomi monitor in the past.

    • +3

I had the same laptop for work and I have never been able to get it to go over 60hz with the G3223Q. I tried everything. Cables, docks, etc.

New MBP M1 14" works fine though 4k144hz.

      https://tonsky.me/blog/monitors-mac/

    • +1

same macbook, 60Hz only :( tried via Caldigit TS4 and directly USB-C to DP 8K cable

    • +1

I have a feeling this is MacOS issue. I saw people complaining that DSC was properly working in Catalina, but got broken in Big Sur (broke only for Intel ones?).

But this guy is running 4K 144Hz on 2019 MacBook Pro 16 on Ventura!

  • Can only change the sharpness but the brightness seem to be fixed at 75%, anyone have this problem?

    • +1

Had the same issue. Updating the firmware and installing the display manager worked for me.

      • I have updated the firmware and installed the display manager, still stuck at 75%

        • Using Display Manager and setting the brightness above 75% should issue you a warning the first go (using the mouse to drag brightness higher). If you haven't seen that warning yet, or not using the mouse, then I reckon try reinstall Display Manager?

  • +3

Just got mine to replace S2721DGF. I can't believe how pathetic these companies are and trying to cut corners wherever they can. The hdmi cable is like 40-50cm length, can't even reach to my tower that's underneath it. Not all of us place the tower right next to the monitor, couldn't even give 1m length seriously???? WTF.

So instead of setting up the monitor I have to go to the shops and buy a compatible hdmi when I thought I've already bought one with the monitor…. Thanks Dell.

    • +1

Yeah can't believe how short the HDMI cable is, shame.

  • Been using a curve screen for ages, this flat screen gives me the fisheye lens effect, kind of regretting not gettng a curve screen.

    • +1

Probably just an adjustment period. Going from flat to curved would have the same initial effect

    • Give it a day - it'll go away, but I know the feeling.

  • +5

The Indian postie asked me "Is there a sale for these going on? My truck is full of these" 🤣

  • +2

Just got it on this Tuesday, and it's faulty, turn on and nothing display (black screen), search on internet, and find out there are some peoples have same problem with this model (https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/zg65bx/anyone_els…).

Contacted Dell and request they send me another replace. If it still fail on 2nd time, will refund.

    Have a question about Dell's quality nowaday…

    • Hey mate, I'm having the same issue as you. I've contacted Dell for a replacement this morning but the bloke is saying there are none left and that no one else has received one. Could you possibly PM me your order number so I can prove to the bloke that there is some stock?

      • +2

Hey mate, just chat the support guy on this morning, and he tell me: A Dell representative will be in touch with me via email within 1-2 business days, so I don't know if they have another one to replace for me. Anyway, I message you my order number

        • Hi, I am also having this problem, could i also get your order number thanks

    • Same problem here, another 'dead on arrival' unit, exact same issues as described in that reddit post.

  • Weird seems alot of DOA units in this thread

    • Never prayed hard in my life when I was turning it on the first time. Lucky its working perfectly.

      • +1

Share which prayer to which gods?

    • As DOA recipient, from what I'm told, the heavy discount is because they are no longer manufacturing this model. So they're just cleaning house with this sale and whatever dookie models they've got left hanging around.

      • It would seem weird to have discontinued it already given it's pretty new (denoted by the model number.) Unless it was discontinued because of a massive DOA rate…

I'm still waiting for "approval" for my replacement. The frontline support person said it would be replaced but it needed approval first…

  • does this monitor have in built speaker?

    • From a brief search last night no.

    • Yes, I got no sounds :(. But for this price it is a very good deal. Just bought a pair of Logitech speakers and see if that works.

  • Just got it few hours ago. I had to open box immediately after few reports faulty product. Worked like a charm. Awesome monitor at cheap price.

    • Im praying my 2 are fine

      • just opened mine and works fine as well, despite some slight damage on the packaging.

  • I also got blank screen. Also, The stand and the screen do not align. When the stand faces me strait, the screen looks to the side.

    • Is there any form of pressure you can apply on one side to straighten?

      But black screen sounds DOA

      • I dare not to try too hard. I contacted technical support about blank screen and the stand angle problem. They refer me to order support. Order support ask me if I want a refund or replacement. I replied that I prefer a refund before reading that so many people have issues. There must be some problem with their quality control.

        • It just rotates for me. Well, not that it matters if the screen is dead :(

    • Photo?

  • What is their return policy? Is it 15 days from the order (they issue electronic invoice straightway). So, one can start the process within 15 days and then return to the local company after that. Its' a bit unclear. By the way, Dell return policy in US is within 30 days which is practical.

Mine one is not DOA, but having lots of other issues despite all the downloads etc.

    • What are the issues to look out for?

  • RIP, mine came today and it's DOA as well… Back blue LED turns on, but black screen on every input source and tried both macOS and Windows.
    https://imgur.com/a/0YeJUVY

    • Does the OSD menu show on the screen?

      • Nope, that's how I know it is 100% dead :(

  • Just finished setting this up. all seems to be working fine. Thanks OP again for a great deal
A quick question. I'm using the display port cable that cam with the monitor as the HDMI cable wont reach. My graphics card is a bit dated gtx 970 and I can only set max refresh rate to 60. Is that a limitation of my card or do I need a HDMI cable.
    Thanks

  • Just setup mine with three surrounding monitors that are all different models from Dell. However this one have a noticed yellowish tint when displaying white content. Is anyone else experiencing this? Or did I just got a bad panel?

    • I have got this same issue. The screen has a yellowish / warm look to it.

I have 3 other monitors and this is the only monitor that is doing it.
Tried DP & HDMI cables and same issue.

      I have followed these suggestions
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13857723/redir

So i've updated firmware and drivers etc
      I have a 1070

Weird thing is the listed refresh rates are like :
      59.997 Hz
      60.000 Hz
      119.880 Hz

If i go 119.880 Hz, i get that weird text issue, so I have to use 60 Hz

      • Yeah same, I've done all the steps and still this yellowish, plus blue color looks very desaturated.
Refresh rates is normal to me, I can't notice any different in color when I set to 60hz, 120hz or 144hz.

I've just contacted dell support and they said they can replace me a new one after they have someone to collect my current one.
        Let's see how that goes..

  • Seeing a lot of people experiencing quality control issues. Praying my one is fine.

  • MacOS Ventura, Night Shift not working. Anyone has it working?

And I don't know what I did good in this life, but monitor is now at 144Hz in Macos Ventura, MBP 16" 2019, TB3 —> Caldigit TS4 —> Wavelink DP to HDMI dongle (60Hz!) —> plain HDMI cable —> HDMI2 input of G2332Q. Pic

    • same on macOS as well. Are you able to notice the warm tint compares to other monitors?

      • Are you able to notice the warm tint compares to other monitors?

Not sure I got the question. My previous LG 27UL500 was going warm when I set Night Shift on. It was wonky, sometimes going blue when it should go warm by schedule, but at least it was responding (sometimes in opposite manner). This one does not even bother changing colour.

        • Just tried turning on Night shift and got the same issue. As all other monitors fades their color this one it not.. weird.

    • but monitor is now at 144Hz

Maybe not. That's the max. Check what is next to current.

      • What current? Is my pic is not saying what it is saying? Let me reboot :)

        • Yours is saying 2160p.

          I have 3840x2160, 30Hz in mine.

          • @RSmith: Well, sucks to be you, lol
Confirmed after reboot, I have 4k 144Hz. It shows YCbCr in Display / Input Color Format, not RGB. Setting it to RGB gives you funky colours, reboot reverts setting to YcbCr.

            • @[Deactivated]:

Well, sucks to be you, lol

              Congrats.

              • @RSmith: You are welcome! Anytime :))))))))

                • @[Deactivated]: That's the spirit.

                  • @RSmith: I did upgraded firmware using my Windows gaming PC, just in case it matters. And Im not yet sure I have 144Hz. It feels like 60Hz honestly. There is command line tool, but Im not sure how to interpret the results.
                    /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/MacOS/AGDCDiagnose -a > AGDCDiagnose_a.txt 2>&1
Looks like I still have 60Hz, searching the file for "Refresh Rate (Calculated)"

                    • @[Deactivated]: I'll do the firmware upgrade tomorrow and see if it helps.

                      • +1

@RSmith: You were right, its the "Current" value that matters. I used direct Caldigit DP —> G3223Q DP connection, got "Current: 3840x2160, 60Hz" value. Strangely, previous setup gave "Current: 2160p" value. This is just madness.
I ordered this cable to test.

                        • @[Deactivated]: I am connecting it to my laptop using HDMI cable. I suspect that my laptop, ThinkPad E450, might not be able to support 60 Hz @ 4K, let alone 144Hz.

                          • +1

@RSmith: E450 is pretty old I think it's using an older HDMI specification. My guess it's HDMI 1.4, meaning the max you can get out of 4K is 30hz. Not an issue with the monitor - HDMI 1.4 can't do anything more than 4k 30

                            • @cyrax83:

E450 is pretty old I think it's using an older HDMI specification. My guess it's HDMI 1.4

Possibly. I was trying to find out the specs, but they don't mention what HDMI is it.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Mine is working at 120hz, no 144hz options, unfortunately. Boot in windows gives me 144hz but not in macOS.
AppleGraphicsControl also gives me Refresh Rate (Calculated) 120 Hz

Did firmware update with Windows as well but I can't notice any different expect the firmware version..
Still the weird warm color, feels like blue is somehow desaturated, which is noticeable when you compare blue highlighted texts in dark background.
Another way to describe my feeling is as if it have a low blue light filter attached onto it, even tried to peel the screen and see if there's actually some plastic film I forgot :(

                      • @neurofunky: Cool! What Mac, please?

                        • @[Deactivated]: According to RTINGS.com they can even do VRR 48-144Hz. My monitor is DOA so I couldn't help with macOS compatibility rn :(
                          https://i.rtings.com/assets/products/a0F7LY9v/dell-g3223q/ma…

                          • @timliu1996: according to rtings is also supposed to give 'incredible' Color Accuracy. But mine is just this very warm white and washed out blue no matter what settings I've tried.
Not sure if I got a defective panel tbh..

                            • @neurofunky: Ouch, imo with all the DOA people receiving in this thread I wouldn't be surprised if the panel you got is defective. In System Settings - Display - Preset, try change the profile to anything else see if it gets better? (suspect the colour profile came with your monitor is bad)

                              • @timliu1996: hmm, never thought about this. When I plug the monitor there's a "DELL G3223Q" the appeared in my setting, never thought it would came from the Monitor? But I did notice it become much better when I switch to a Generic RGB profile..

                                • @neurofunky: Hmm, with further investigation I think the profile came with the macOS system, when macOS detects your monitor it automatically apply this colour profile to it.

Sounds like the colour profile is bad and one way to fix it is to have you monitor calibrated and use the calibrated colour profile from now on.

                                  • @timliu1996: ah I thought so.. do you have any recommendation for the hardware? I guess those can be very expensive :)

                                    • @neurofunky: btw I tried the color profile from rting and it looks pretty much the same with the default one.. Maybe the panel I got is mis-calibrated?

                                      • @neurofunky: In that case I would contact dell support to see what they think, if they identify as defective panel definitely get a replacement first

                                        • @timliu1996: Yeah just contacted their support. They said they will send someone to collect and then ship me a new one. Hope the new one will be different.

                          • @timliu1996: Yes, i saw this screenshot. I think they made it using M1 macs, not Intel.

                        • @[Deactivated]: Tried both on M1 mbp and Mac Pro with 6800XT, same result.
If you can't get up to 120hz any chance you are using a type-c to dp adapter? Could be that adapter can't keep up with DP1.4,

                          • @neurofunky: It is Intel macbooks, that have the issue it seems. I tried direct usb-c to DP 1.4 “8k” cable and DP to DP from TB dock

                            • @[Deactivated]: RIP, maybe it's the GPU that can't output 4k/120hz then. I have an old 2015 Intel MacBook Pro with dgpu, although it does output 30hz but the UI can't keep up with 20fps imo.

  • Sorry for people here who got quality issues. Got mine yesterday and so far has been faultless.
4k 144hz with provided dp cable to 2070s Smooth AF in games.
I'm still getting my head around HDR settings in games/desktop.

    Thanks OP

  • The AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 supports HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4.
    HDMI 2.0:
This version of HDMI supports 4K resolution (3840x2160) at up to 60Hz.
    DisplayPort 1.4:
DisplayPort 1.4 supports 4K resolution (3840x2160) at up to 120Hz without compression.

Looks like I need a new card to get 4K 144Hz

    • tbh not a huge difference between 120 and 144

  • +3

I got the monitor yesterday. Out of the box older firmware, used without problems on my
    - 16" rMBP M1: USB-C -> DP (144 Hz), HDMI -> HDMI (60 Hz)
    - gaming PC with RX 6900: DP -> DP (144 Hz), HDMI -> HDMI (144 Hz)

I've had problems however with a 2019 Intel based MacBook, black screen. But given its black only on this one I've ruled out the monitor to be at fault.
I've followed @WorkingLowJam advice on firmware updates afterwards and the colours look better than with the initial firmware. I will give it another go today to see if I can get the intel based Mac connected but other than that pretty impressed with the monitor. I've replaced the LG 27GL83A 2k 144hz and I'm pretty happy with the purchase so far.

    • Following for results on intel based mac

      • +1

Sorry I didn't have much time to test today. But I've connected the display after the firmware update. It shows up with correct scaling etc, but goes to a "static" screen and then black afterwards. I'm pretty sure it's MacBook / OS / battery specific but can't tell what it is for sure. Will try to spend some time with this Mac tomorrow and see if I can figure out what the problem is.

      • Sorry completely forgot to answer. It works fine with the Intel based Mac, but I wasn’t able to push it past 30hz.

How does the SE3223Q compare to the G3223Q?

Dell will be offering the SE as replacement for the G for those who are going through the faulty monitor replacement process

Just from quick search I think Dell is trying to do a sneaky and screw us over… , unless I am mistaken may as well just do refund.

    @mszoidberg @saitaris

    • +2

      60Hz and also VA…

    • This link has the comparison between SE3223Q vs G3223Q:

      https://www.displaydb.com/compare/dell-g3223q/dell-se3223q

SE3223Q is a VA panel and can be obtained for US$300 (G3223Q is around US$600) in the US.

I would rather accept a refund if they can't offer replacement with G3223Q.

    • +1

Looks like the SE is 60hz versus 144hz we paid for. No big deal if you want the monitor to do productive work. But I wanted it for gaming and will be a deal breaker.

There doesn't look to be an alternative 4K/144hz on their website that's price tag isn't in the thousands.

If they offer me the SE I think I'll counter with either the G3223D or the S3422DWG (If I'm feeling cheeky then the AW2723DF). Neither are 4K but are around the same price I paid and are upgrades of my current monitor. If all else fails then I'll go through the refund process…

      • Yeh same thought process as me

I countered with the G3223D but with discount, as I would look to get refund as their quoted eta for replacement item would be 21 days..

Better off just refunding and buying new unit id say

    • I was told I'd get a replacement G3223Q (or at least, they didn't tell me it would be a different model) but I already asked for a refund. The turnaround time on a replacement was unacceptable.
