First time post, full time lurker.

Went to check dell's annual EOFY and came across this by accident.

Was hoping for Muzeeb to bless us with some cheap alienware monitors for EOFY but found this instead. Checked yesterday evening and it was sitting at $814. Possibly the cheapest its ever been with Uniday code?

Price reference below for codes you use

Have been looking at getting a Gigabyte m32u but comparison wise this beats it by a small margin in picture quality and you lose the USB C upstream.

      • I was told I would get the G3223Q as replacement as well, and that rest assured would be a brand new unit and not refurb

But then they returned with this offer this morning.

@mszoidberg's rep at least told them outright that there was no more stock

        • Glad I asked for a refund then!

        • Just got the same replacement offer….

SE3223Q is very lower spec with VA panel and 60hz..
During the online support chat they mentioned that I'll be replaced with the same model but dang.
Very disappointed. If they are unable to go replace a model with same spec I'll go for a refund.

  • Just refund, lost faith in Dell.

    • Do they offer free pick up for refund?

      • They should.

  • Got mine today and it works. Out of the box picture is great but I upgraded firmware just in case.

  • Anyone using this monitor and connecting to a remote desktop? Everything looks so small.

    • Just set your remote session to 1080p res.. You could easily snap 4 X 1080 RDP screens on each corner

  • Just got this monitor, is my backlight bleed bad or is it normal? Image

    • +1

It's hard to say because pictures make it look worse than it actually is. Can you notice it in actual usage?

    • As an example, I just took a picture of my 27" Predator 1440p which is also IPS panel with all lights turned off and this is how it turned out. But I've never once noticed any issues with backlight bleed or had any issues with the monitor in actual usage

Your monitor actually looks better than my Acer. I'd say it's normal and pretty good uniformity

      • Thanks Mate, appreciate it

    • Here is a better image i took just now, made sure to turn off Night Shot setting from my camera, so hopefully its abit more accurate

      https://imgur.com/a/GGRPomW

      • Looks fine

    • +1

I don't think you can actually show the bleed via photo. It really comes down to the fact if you're ok with it. Mine looks similar when you look at it through a lens but to a naked eye it is better than my 27 IPS. I think it might seem more noticeable due to the size of the screen cause you probably look at the edges from a different angle compared to your previous monitor.

  • Mine works fine.
Colours don't quite match the other two Dell monitors I'm comparing it to. Haven't updated firmware. Haven't played with colour settings much, need to learn first.
Had to change to 10 bit colour in NVidia control panel, though not sure I can see a difference.

    • Have you managed to fix the color mismatch? Mine have the same issue, tried all steps mentioned by others and still the same.

      • Will mess about with it a bit more tomorrow.
Also need to figure out what settings I should use for FPS gaming as it doesn't feel quite as smooth as I'd expect.

  • Hoping Startrack re-delivers my 2 units tomorrow. Praying for no DOA

  • 1 of the 2 I ordered was also DOA. Managed to speak to a rep on live chat and after some standard trouble shooting was told I'd receive a replacement. Hoping this one won't be DOA too but not holding my breath.

  • You guys scared me, tested it out on the dinner table as I wasn't prepared to waste my time in the study. Works perfectly.

The guys who got a DOA model, did yours come with a Calibration Factory Report? Mine did, apparently it was tested.

    • +3

Every monitor comes with that report

  • For those who got replacement, are they all offering to replace with a different model?
I requested for a replacement unit as mine have a weird warm color and desaturated blue color. (see my early comments for detail.)
And the support team reached out to me and proposed to send me a different model with LOWER SPEC, despite the online chat told me that I will be replaced with the same model and a new one.

Below is the email I've got from them:
    Replacement of your original system
Please note that your original unit, System Model Dell 32 Gaming Monitor - G3223Q, is now end of life and will be replaced by System Model Dell 32 Monitor - SE3223Q.

Very disappointed, and they didn't even mention that it was of lower spec in the email.

    • +1

If this is true just request refund. No one in right mind will get SE3223Q.

    • End of life? Now I'm REALLY bummed I missed this deal.

    • How long did it take for Dell to respond with refund/substitute? I've had a referal to GCEO and no other communication

      • +1

for me they replied in a couple of hours.

        • Yeah ok, chat created a service request for me which hasn't been updated.
Would like to get this massive useless box out of my way, get my money, and order something useful.

  • Just had 2 monitors arrive. One works, one DOA. FML. now what?

    • Keep one and return the other.

      • Was hoping for replacement. Spoke to Dell on the phone and they said I first have to return the monitor then a replacement would be issued. Could take a week or two. I thought Dell offered replacement immediately?

        • With the group of us in this thread that had DOA, we've been told they aren't issuing replacement monitors. That we either get a refund or are offered a different model (a far worse model).

          • @mszoidberg: Oh well. If they offer the lower spec guess I'll refund one

          • @mszoidberg: support offered the G3223D after I suggested it

But they didnt offer to refund the difference…

At the moment am playing hardball and not budging till they offer G3223D at a suitable discount, but yeh already looking else where for a suitable alternative.

            • @Teal: I wouldn't even accept that personally. 32 inch at 1440p is a pass

    • +1

Somehow my second monitor just came alive. Doing some testing - hope it's fine.

Not sure what I did, I changed computers and I started pressing the button on the bottom instead of the joystick on the back and it turned on.

      • Was the on screen menu able to pop up before when it was DOA?

Otherwise, that sounds hopeful. Did you change any cables? Do anything special?

        • No the on-screen menu didn't pop up. The rear blue light didn't turn on either. But I left it for an hour or two, came back.

Plugged it into a different PC, changed input cable from USBC to a HDMI cable and started to press all the buttons including the ones on the back and the button on the bottom and it just turned on. Updating the firmware now.

          • @cyrax83: Interesting…I've the blue light going on mine. Maybe I'll leave it on for a few hours and try what you did. Enjoy :)

            • @mszoidberg: Thanks, updating firmware on both so far so good. Can't believe my luck. What a rollercoaster.

          • @cyrax83: Glad one of us has rose from the dead

We all had the blue light but no OSD, so I am assuming your case is different to ours

            Enjoy the setup

          • @cyrax83: I will try your way tonight, are steps as below:

            • Plugin the power
            • Press bottom button to turn On Monitor
            • Leave Monitor for few hours
            • Plug it into PC by HDMI cable
            • Press all the button on Monitor

            Hope it work.

  • +4

Working on my mac at 4k 144hz. Im using a dp to usbc cable with pd so theres only 1 cable going to my mac and not the chunky hdmi + charger 2 cable mess.

    14 bucks at amazon
    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https:/…

    • What mac are you using?

    • Oo, that's a neat trick.

    • +1

What Mac is this? Intel or M1/M2?

    • So the power delivery is coming from the monitor's DP to the macbook? I'd never heard of that before. Should it work with all DP monitors?

      • +1

Yeah should work. Probably not enough for gaming laptop tho.

  • Just found I did not send my email requesting a replacement. The email was in the draft box. Will get a refund. I thought they would offer a better model when the original model is not available.

  • +1

got mine two days ago and already sold S2722QC it replaced

I am absolutely blown away by the monitor, very smooth with 3070 in 4k gaming - connected via DP here

I did switch HDR off basically, and switched to creator mode, but I am not quite happy with the colors, will have to play more with it.

left AMD FreeSync Pro on, but turned G-Sync off in nvidia control.

there's just way too many variables, and I need to figure out the best way to use it for both creative workloads and gaming from 2 different sources HDMI and DP..

really sorry for everyone who got a DOA unit! Dell seems to be doing a bit of self damage there with low QA standards..

oh by the way there are a few Dell gaming monitors 1440p and 1080p rather cheap in their outlet for those who got tbeir units DOA..

    https://prod-auoutlet.dell.com/shop/monitors/refurbished-mon…

    • How much you sell the S27 for?

    • why gsync off?

    • any luck with the color?

      • I decided to leave it as is, I have a calibration device, will calibrate and probably share the profile then

      • OK I basically followed RTings calibration info for now, so far so good, colors are much better.

        Their settings are:
        profile: custom color
        gain: R-G-B 100-100-94

        and install their calibrated profile

        details here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/g3223q

        • Is the calibration meant to be different for each monitor/panel?

          • @donamique: it can differ slightly, best way of course is to calibrate independently.

I have a calibration device, just can't find time to get it done.

IMO with the RTings profile the colors are a bit too saturated.

  • Got mine, DOA. Chat didn't really give me anything conclusive about what they can do for me, but I guess a refund is on the cards.

    • Does blue light turn on at the back when power is on or is it off?

      • Yep lights all turn on, backlight comes on. No OSD or computer image. Computers can see it fine, monitor flickers the backlight selecting the input when I plug it in. Just doesn’t show anything.

        • Exact same issue

          • @akanub: if you have a 2nd monitor, you could try to plug this in via USB and try updating firmware?

maybe it'll fix it.. just hoping

            • @shabaka: thanks for the advice
tried but still same issue with black screen
looks like dell is just shi*

              • @akanub: that is so outrageous 😡 Dell really let themselves and a lot of us down with such QA fail

  • +1

Really surprised to see so many DOAs

  • What scaling percentage you guys using? 100% is too small, 150% is not bad but I think a bit too big and negates alot of the benefit. I think 125% is the sweet spot at 4K 32"

    I'm 65-75cm away from screen

    • Im with you on that. I've got it at 125%. 100% is way too small.

I feel like 135% would be good but don't have that option

    • 125 for work (lots of graphs and charts), 150 for other use

kinda yes need a 135 setting in between

      • Doesn't Windows support custom scaling?

        • I thought using those was "not recommended"

    • I'm running 100% so far, might try bump to 110% or so (though unsure if it'll look bad given not recommended).
      Similar distance.

  • Image retention was not great out of the box. Seems a little improved after the firmware updates but will take some time to see if its a dealbreaker

    • Whats image retention?

      • Basically leave a bright image on the screen for a while and you'll be able to see a ghost of that image stuck there for a while. Basically like burn-in on OLED's but it happens and goes away quickly

  • Running 1070gtx connected with display port. Output color format is locked to YCbCr422, cannot select RGB unless downgrade to 60hz. As a result I get color fringing on 144hz. Any tips on how to resolve?

edit: looks like my graphics card is too old to support the bandwidth as 10 series doesn't have DSC. Sounds like a PC rebuild is on the cards lol

    • Great time to go for a mini itx build. I’ve got a nr200p - waiting for a sale on some GPUs

      • Advantages of mini itx? Just space saving? Might limit future GPU options

        • Mainly minimalistic aesthetics and a cleaner space setup imo. But i guess everyone values different things.

  • +1

found this good article for those who want to set this up correctly on NVIDIA GPU with G-Sync. I am connecting mine using DP port.

    https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-s…

I followed the guide and got amazing results in my games. never had a fast monitor before so probably useful for noobs like me lol

  • Anyone struggling to get 144hz going on this thing?

    • worked straight away for me. what is the problem? I am connected using DP to my 3070, it was set to 60hz by default, I set it to 144, has been running smooth since

even more so when I set up G-Sync correctly as per above (this monitor is G-Sync compatible)

    • +1

Your graphics card might not support the bandwidth required. What are you using and connection type?

      • hdmi and a 2060

        • +2

You would need to use DisplayPort.
