Spriggy - Increased Referral Benefit ($40 Each for Referrer and Referee)

13924

Free money! Increased referral bonus is live for June. Use the OzBargain referral randomiser below to sign up.

Spriggy is some financial app for parents/kids that gives them a physical prepaid Visa card so they can spend all your money. Love it or hate it, they're giving you $40 to try it.

Sign up, get a physical card, top it up ($10 min) and make a purchase on it to get the referral bonus.

They don't perform any form of KYC on your kids (obviously) so you know, you don't have to miss out if you don't have kids.

From the terms and conditions:

June 2023 promotion. Notwithstanding the immediately preceding paragraph, if the Eligibility Criteria is met between 1 June 2023 and 30 June 2023 (inclusive), for each Referred Member, you will receive $40 (rather than $20) paid into your Parent Wallet (or if the referrer is a Child, into your Prepaid Card). Each Referred Member will also receive $40 (rather than $20) paid into their Parent Wallet.

Spriggy is not a free service.

Mod 5/6 4pm: Referrals have been changed to PM only, as Spriggy does not allow sharing on deal sites, see comments. Please PM your friend on OzBargain to ask for a referral code.

          • @easternculture: They would’ve got an increase yes but to react that quickly and the right way is difficult, especially if it wasn’t setup correctly in the first place. I too was annoyed when it first happened, but now I totally understand it now. Plus they are still honouring those that sign up with one account per address.

            • +1

@bobwokeup: I did one addy but no correspondence they will honor

              • @easternculture: Damn that’s not cool. They’ve replied to me a few times already, so why are they saying they won’t honour it or they just not replying?

              • @easternculture: @easternculture - I emailed them as well. Funny enough, I was told they will need to verify my child's details and asked for his DOB. I was told that my signup + my referrals were incomplete because the child's DOB wasn't provided - lame excuse.

I asked if providing that evidence will reinstate the referral bonus to which that question was ignored.

            • @bobwokeup: No they are not, I signed up 1 account and they told me outright they won't honour it.

              • @cook99: What was their reason for not honouring it? After a couple of emails they advised mine is being honoured.

                • @bobwokeup: They stated the copy paste generic public site email. And then went on to not commit to making any effort to remove my data and application

            • @bobwokeup: "Plus they are still honouring those that sign up with one account per address."

Are you saying that if anyone here signed up only one account at their address, they are going to honor the $40 bonus one per account?

              • @simplerick: Not true. Only myself in my address got the email

              • @simplerick: I can’t confirm that for everyone, but for me, they are honouring it. If we all contact support surely they have to honour it for those that contact them.

            • @bobwokeup: That is incorrect.

              • @lilkid28: Everyone got the email no matter where you got the referral. I’m just telling you what my experience with support was, so it is true for me.

    • Heya, have you put together the template yet?

      • +2

Ill do it today. Got busy with kids yesterday

        • ask chatgpt to start you off!

  • They keep sending me emails to finish setting my account up (I never installed the app).

Usually this means that your connected account requires verification or if you have already verified this, we may just need a pair of human eyes to check and make sure everything is okay.

We apologise for the abrupt disruption to your Spriggy service. Your security is our utmost priority so please head into your app so we can get you verified right away!

    • Do you still need to cancel the account?
Trying to figure out if I'm supposed to to avoid the fee later on even though they're asking for verification.

  • +1

    @bobwokeup

Plus they are still honouring those that sign up with one account per address.

Did they tell you this in writing?
Did you use a referral from OzBargain?
Did you post your referral link in OzBargain once you signed up?

  • +4

I genuinely referred friends andrelatives using my newly open account but since i use a code from here. They said I wont and relatives i referred will nto get th ebonus

    OZbagain should Banned spriggy
    - what a pig :-)

  • C'mon Spriggy! How far does the rabbit hole go?

    https://www.news.com.au/finance/money/budgeting/how-melbourn…

  • so is this still worth getting or skip?

    • +7

Skip on principle. You've already seen how willing they are to shaft the customer.
Also there's no guarantee the referrer you get here aren't already blacklisted by Spriggy therefore getting yourself blacklisted by connection.

      • +3

thanks, yeah sounds like too much trouble for 40 bucks that I might not even get at the end.

  • +5

    Spriggy are slime.

My cancellation request sat "unread" for 22 hours, I send another message saying I will contact AFCA, and boom, get a reply, cancellation and email within minutes.

Horrible service. To think I was a NAB customer for decades. Not any more.

You'd think they'd honour it seeing that I was a long-term, loyal customer… nope. Other institutions and offers that used referrals from OzBargain have never resulted in this kind of thing. At least none that i'm aware of. It's just rude. So, I found out about the promo on OzBargain (I was honest about that), what if I know the poster whose referral code I used? No benefit of the doubt.

Wow. Rosa (the Customer Service agent), didn't like my reply. I'm now locked out of the app. Can't change my details. Can't remove/change my payment method. Apparently, they can hold onto that information for several years according to Rosa.

Since I wasted time and effort on this, I may as well leave a scathing review on product review or any other social media site that is promoting Spriggy.

    • +1

Good luck, they’re removing a lot of the reviews on google.

      • Need to file all the complaint to ombudsman, this is clearly a bait…

  • This is just horrible. How can they refuse to delete customer data when customer is requesting, especially with all the hacks that has been happening.

Maybe complaining to their backer NAB would help.

  • +2

Received the card today. Can't wait to scratch my anus with it. Anyone else got plans for their card?

    • +2

I'll be swiping my @ss with the card

    • Cut it up and went straight into the bin

  • +2

I couldn't even sign into my account after creating it - it would send me the 2FA code, I received it, I typed it, and it said it was incorrect.

Received an email saying that I was breaching the referral terms and conditions by … using a referral code? Nice one.

I've had them close my account, but they're refusing to delete my personal information, even though no service was actually ever provided (because I couldn't even log in in the first place).

  • +1

They have messaged me saying no referral bonus can be honored for the month of June, but they mentioned the below…

" However, this will not impact your referrals after the June 2023 promotion period has ended, as long as your code is shared in the spirit of genuine referral and within the terms of the promotion "

So I am assuming that means if I really wanted to, I can refer 'friends' and we will both be awarded $20 each I take it?

So for anyone wanting to sign up, perhaps wait until July before asking a 'friend' for their invite code

    • After Jun, referral bonus will probably drop back to $5. Plus you will need to pay $5 per month membership fee. Did they tell you this?

      • +1

Ah I assumed it reverts back to $20 as per OP mention of $20 normally, so who knows…

I don't need to pay the $5 monthly fee as linked with NAB account, so all good for a year. Would be nice to refer some real friends to make some profit from this whole ordeal.

        I got nothing but time…

        • Ah ok, that makes more sense now.

  • Didn’t get anything yet, that the referral is refused. I added our child which we really have. What is the minimum purchase I have to do to be eligible? I topped up with $10 and transferred it to the kid.

    • Don't trust these people with your money

  • +7

This is a great example of how Google Maps reviews have lost so much integrity.

Too easy for dodgy businesses to manipulate the reviews.

Get a bad review? Business reports it and fights it.

If the review is STILL not removed from google, reach out to the user and bribe them to take it down with a small reward.

Then by the time a user comes to view google reviews, they are heavily manipulated.

    • +1

They are also flagging reviews on Trustpilot.
At least Product review is still holding up, for now.

You can tell they care about their image a lot

    • Yup, outright shady that reviews can simply be removed, makes the whole process pretty pointless

  • +7

This is what wrote when they refused to delete my details - tldr pay me $40 or delete my data.

That is disappointing that you will not delete all of my personal information.

Your privacy policy essentially says that you will do when requested by emailing this address, except where required to keep the information by law.

If in the given circumstances you are unwilling to do so, I would suggest that there are likely to be NO circumstances where you would. Has Spriggy ever deleted anybody's personal information when requested, per your privacy policy?

Specifically please note that as of right now I have not yet done any actions which conceivably could trigger aml/CTF obligations. I have not received any financial services from you, for example such as of the following:
    * Receiving a bank card
    * Linked a bank account
    * transferred ahy money in or out of my account , such as by a deposit or otherwise or by receiving a bonus from you.

I note that "seeking" to delete doesn't really cut it or commit to doing anything and, without more detail I am unable to monitor when those conditions are likely to occur and follow up with you at that point.

I also note that regulatory compliance is only one of the permitted ten uses of personal data in your privacy policy. Can you clarify that , if you decide not to delete my personal information, you will only use my details for that one purpose? That is, not for marketing analysis and the like.

I would point out that I only have you my details to trial your product and pursue a bonus offer. I would never have signed up and doubt I'd ever have learnt of your product if there wasn't a bonus offer. I wasn't the one who breached the terms of your deal - it was the person whose referral link I clicked. There is no grounds for you to deny payment of my bonus as a result as I am not a party to that contract between you and the referer.

Data is valuable and your lack of good faith in declining to pay out your promo not only breaks the bargain but also undermines any trust your customers should have in your product.

I implore you to do the right thing here noting that, if I have to pursue the privacy policy issue further, I might as well also pursue payment of the $40 via afca instead and let you guys take your pick about which you want to sort out.

    Yours sincerely

    • Let us know how you go with that

    • Outstanding work mate! Love it

    • +3

Well they referred me to the privacy policy, told me they can't delete my data because of some vague record keeping requirements under their afsl and the corporations Act (which sections I have. I idea) and told me to take it up with the information commissioner if I'm not happy with that.

I don't think they fully appreciate how strongly I and probably others feel about this. Acting in bad faith about a promo is one thing but digging their heels in about data with my kids name and address is something else entirely. So I've told them I'll be taking it further over the weekend to afca and the information commissioner as there are issues within each's jurisdiction, but that Id much prefer we can sort it out before then..

  • Hey guys, how do I approach them to optimize my chances they will delete my data. Unfortunately for me, I have deposited the $10, received that prepaid card (but have not activated it yet).

Really unhappy about this. They could use my data for marketing purposes or even inflate their stats to make them look good for their backers like NAB.

  • +2

might just wait for them to shipped the card and cancel it after, it cost them money on the plastic card as well as the cost to post. they clearly lost the "trusted brand"

  • +4

After failing to remove reviews from Trustpilot and Productreview they are now asking the posters to contact Spriggy to "sort them out"

    • +1

Until they just respond with same generic email, they are not sorting anyone but themselves out….

  • +1

Wouldn't it draw more attention to report them to consumer regulatory bodies like Fair Trading for misleading advertising? Or do they not govern services like Spriggy?

  • +2

Keep the review bombing at product review GUYS! HEHE

  • +3

Just your daily reminder to leave your honest and unrelenting feedback on Product Review and Google

They're 100% getting Google reviews removed, not 100% sure how but there's hardly any there now and there were plenty there last I checked. I think you have a better chance of having your review stick if you do a 2-Star feedback score and don't mention anything about the referral? Seems a 1-Star with no comment hasn't been removed so perhaps they have alerted Google to look out for feedback mentioning 'Referrals' and have previously informed them about their BS T&C's

    • Also sad to see them posting so many fake 5 star reviews in order to combat the flood. Suddenly in the last week so many 1st time reviewer accounts created just to let everyone know how good Spriggy is 🙄

      • +1

shoutout ashish's 1 star gave me a chuckle

Difficult to use. Terms and conditions sounds threatening

        • Haha fantastic 😍

    • Yeah I just checked my Product Review and it was unpublished, how do I contest?

      • +1

Try getting it verified (I just attached a copy of the welcome email)

    • Yeah looks like all the recent 1 star google reviews have been deleted. Mine is showing still when im signed in but when im not signed in its not there

      • Same here as well. I gave a 2 star review. Logged in and i can see my own review. However, it can't be seen by others

        • @Ruisu when you are signed out can you see your other reviews for other businesses? When I'm signed out none of my other reviews for other businesses can be seen.

          • +1

@Ricky Jones: Yes, i can see my other reviews. Also double checked with a friend who can also see my review for other businesses

      • @Wigles when you are signed out can you see your other reviews for other businesses? When I'm signed out none of my other reviews for other businesses can be seen.

  • Spriggy is now more well known than boost mobile haha

  • Has anyone here had spriggy 'sort them out' ?

    • Nope, nope, and nope~!

    • They've closed my account with no details on what personal data they will retain? Does that count? LOL

  • +5

Spoke to a lovely person from AFCA. It was quicker to lodge a complaint in AFCA that it was to apply for Spriggy.. https://www.afca.org.au/make-a-complaint

    • +2

Thanks done, they changed what they said to me about getting the bonus so I’m with everyone else and very annoyed. Have never heard of a company that doesn’t want new business (it’s irrelevant whether they stay or not) and now has a large number of upset customers posting on the internet about it.

      • +1

They are so two faced, they say on Product Review, contact us and we'll "Sort you Out" yet that is empty false promises merely posted in response to the negative reviews to make it appear like they will resolve the matter.

Feel like no one here will be successful in getting the $40, since they have bailed on that promotion, and as such should pull the whole deal already for June so no one else gets burned with frustration

        • No way I haven’t seen that yet, although I don’t want to see what more lies they are saying, I’m already livid.

Agreed they won’t even give it to anyone I referred with the actual referral link, that makes even less sense than the fact they hide it in the T&Cs about 3rd party websites.

    • +5

It's also very quick to lodge an Information Commissioner privacy complaint if anyone is concerned with Spriggy's limited deletion of data after an account cancellation: https://www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-complaints/lodge-a-p…

Company details to support the complaint are:
Rivva Pty Ltd (trading as Spriggy)
      [email protected]
Level 1/66 King St, Sydney, NSW 2000

    • Have you heard anything yet? I lodged an AFCA complaint 2 weeks ago but spriggy hasn't responded.

  • refund is so slow to come back to my account, much longer than the 5 business days.
    useless (profanity)

    • Far out and they probably have an excuse for that too.

  • So I emailed my displeasure about them not honoring the referral.. and this is the reply

    Hi alterego13,

We're sorry we aren't able to honour your bonus, but as explained in our email, your referral and the person referring you was identified as being in breach of our terms and conditions (for being distributed by a stranger or via a third-party deal or discount site). This term in our referral terms and conditions has not changed. Our referral offer is designed so that existing Spriggy users can spread the word about Spriggy in the spirit of genuine referral.

We welcome you to use Spriggy with your family, and we'd be happy to offer to waive the membership fee for the first year which is valued at $60 for upto 4 children, or please confirm if you would like to cancel your membership.

If for some reason you are not satisfied, you can lodge your complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (“AFCA”), the approved dispute resolution scheme of which Spriggy is a member.

Their contact details are 1800 931 678 or email [email protected].

    • +3

Kind of mind boggling they would rather you lodge an AFCA complaint (And potentially lose a customer) than give the referral since AFCA charges them fees for each complaint anyway, more than the cost of the referral.

  • I signed up using a referral here and got $40. Then I referred a friend who purchased something but we did not get anything. I didn’t even bother to get cash out but purchased discounted Woolworths gift cards and super swap gift cards via shop back.

    • That’s because the referral system on here changed to DM and not a link, which is why none of us are getting a referral. Ask support about your friends referral.

      • +1

Ok, done. Will see and report what happened.

      • Hi hairpolice,

We have credited the referral bonus to your parent wallet, you will be able to see this in-app.
However, the referral code attached to your membership was distributed in breach of our terms and conditions (for being distributed by a stranger or via a third-party deal or discount site). This means you won’t be paid for friends and family you refer during the June 2023 promotion period.
Once the June 2023 promotion period has ended, future referrals you make will not be impacted, as long as your code is shared in the spirit of genuine referral and within our terms.

        Kind regards

        • So dodgy, how does a company like this exist?!?

          • @bobwokeup: Dunno. Got twice $40 now, that’s ok. Hope you all get some out of it too.

            • @Thrifty Dan: Yeah that’s good, glad to hear a fellow OzBargainer got something out of it. The ones that joined up before the change to DM won’t get a cent. Which is sad as I was going to give a card my kids but after how they dealt with it no way, I’ll stay with Kit.

            • @Thrifty Dan: considering you were like first to reply to this post, it's unusual Spriggy honored your bonus and no one elses

  • Yeah don’t know. I got it twice. One automatically and another after contacting them. A neighbor friend who got my referral code I have given to him in private didn’t get it either with the same excuses.

  • so is current consensus this deal is void and not worth signing now or what ?

    • +1

Yup, they make the rules up as they go, hard no for me.

  • Made an AFCA complaint a few weeks ago. Still hearing crickets.

    • Just got an email update. Unbelievable they would let it escalate to this over $40. Imagine being a case manager at AFCA dealing with dishonoured insurance policies worth millions then having to deal with a $40 referral bonus complaint lol.

After you made your complaint to us, we referred it to Rivva Pty Ltd and asked them to work directly with you to reach a resolution. As your complaint was not resolved, we will now progress this case to our Case Management Stage.
Unfortunately, AFCA is experiencing delays in allocating complaints to caseworkers. This is because of an unprecedented number of complaints progressing to case management, especially complaints about insurance issues and those relating to flooding events across Australia.
We are working hard to minimise delays, including by increasing the size of our case management team, but the number of complaints means that we are taking longer than usual. We thank you for your patience.
Once an AFCA case worker is assigned, they will review the information provided by you and Rivva Pty Ltd, and then contact you to discuss your complaint

      • Sad isn’t it, I also received the same email today.

  • AFCA has bigger things to deal with it seems, not surprised given my company has AFCA as a last resource for complaints too.

** For anyone now wanting to join Spriggy, you can earn $20 bonus off the referrals, current 68 in the pool at the moment

I would love to make at least $20 out of these clowns, got my referral in the pool too (wink wink)

    • Will they honour this as again on a deal site and not from families or friends

    • Deal was deleted xD

  • The clowns at spriggy want to know the details of my referrer, full name and phone number etc. How do I know who referred me from this link?
If they don't honor this then i'll cancel my card/account etc

    • Don’t think you’ll get it, that’s why admin changed to DM so you can get that information off the referrer.

      • Is there a way to look up who referred me?

        • Not that I know of but you could go to your browser history to get the code and then maybe post here or ask admin?
