Spriggy - Increased Referral Benefit ($40 Each for Referrer and Referee)

13924

Free money! Increased referral bonus is live for June. Use the OzBargain referral randomiser below to sign up.

Spriggy is some financial app for parents/kids that gives them a physical prepaid Visa card so they can spend all your money. Love it or hate it, they're giving you $40 to try it.

Sign up, get a physical card, top it up ($10 min) and make a purchase on it to get the referral bonus.

They don't perform any form of KYC on your kids (obviously) so you know, you don't have to miss out if you don't have kids.

From the terms and conditions:

June 2023 promotion. Notwithstanding the immediately preceding paragraph, if the Eligibility Criteria is met between 1 June 2023 and 30 June 2023 (inclusive), for each Referred Member, you will receive $40 (rather than $20) paid into your Parent Wallet (or if the referrer is a Child, into your Prepaid Card). Each Referred Member will also receive $40 (rather than $20) paid into their Parent Wallet.

Spriggy is not a free service.

Mod 5/6 4pm: Referrals have been changed to PM only, as Spriggy does not allow sharing on deal sites, see comments. Please PM your friend on OzBargain to ask for a referral code.

Same here got that message….. Gonna close my account and bin the card. Haven't deposited anything yet. Also left a neg on play store, google and product review.

  • +1

    Two weird things now.
    1) Their website is devoid of any mention of any referral credit. Their T&C's wouldn't support that.
    2) If you google any link of 'refer a friend', it opens up a $40 referral code from someone called Tobias - (mod: removed code. Tobias is actually an ozb user) Who is Tobias and why is he on their referral page?!??

    • +1

Yeah, a couple others I found too, like https://beanstalkmums.com.au/directory/spriggy/

What is more concerning is reading the other negative reviews from previous customer's who have said there is no customer support line, accounts being debited without prior authorization, accounts being hacked etc.

Not a company I feel comfortable keeping attached to my primary banking account with NAB!

  • +7

    canceling is so convoluted!

Should add canceling account instructions to the OP.

settings - help & legal - cancel spriggy - start a conversation - select 'cancelling' - cancel whole spriggy membership - confirm cancel - select reason - confirm cancel again - lodge cancellation request

  • +2

Was getting excited. Even genuine referrals were cancelled. Not cool.

  • +1

    Got the same email… shame.

  • So I got baited into depositing $10??

    • yeah I topped up $10 but not sure how long that takes.. it hasn't hit yet.
they should refund it when you cancel

How do I transfer back to my Connected Account?
If your kids have completed their savings goals, or you would like to transfer funds back to your Connected Account, here’s how to do it.

If your kids have completed their savings goals, or you would like to transfer funds back to your Connected Account, here’s how to get it done.

Before you start, first move the funds you want to transfer back into your Parent Wallet. Please also check that you’re using the most updated version of the Spriggy app.

To transfer the money in your Parent Wallet back to your Connected Account, follow these steps:

From your Parent login on the Spriggy app, go to ‘Settings’.

Tap on 'Help' and then choose 'Member Help'.

    Tap 'Send us a message'.

    Choose ‘Top-ups, transactions or transfers'.

Tap 'Transferring funds back to my bank' and follow the prompts.

It usually takes 3-5 business days for the money to transfer back to your Connected Account. This is due to bank processes that aren’t in our control.

If you have any questions you can contact us in-app, via web chat or you can email us at [email protected]

    Doing this now before cancelling.

    • Any fees to do this?

      • +1

        Seems not.

  • Most of the referral deals on here —-> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778648 in case you missed some. Doing one for Admiral Markets which is $25 each.

  • Can't help to draw a comparison to this Cheddar deal.

Oh, boys, both backed by big banks, Cheddar certainly goes out on a high note, it even paid me the bonus with the cancelled order. Spriggy is certainly too stingy.

  • Thanks for becoming a Spriggy member. Unfortunately something went wrong with your registration and we need to confirm a few details before your membership is up and running.

    What does this mean?

You can't access your Spriggy Membership just yet.
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause but in order to proceed, could you please provide:

Copy of your Medicare Card showing your name and your children's names.
    Child's DOB DD/MM/YYYY
Copy of a utility bill showing your name and address

You can just snap a picture with your phone and attach it when you reply to this email.

Please note Spriggy may verify the information provided with the issuer of the document and by providing it you give us your consent to do so.

We are stoked you decided to join Spriggy and can't wait to get you started as soon as possible.

    With thanks,
    Team Spriggy

  • Replied to their email and got this reply.

"We're sorry we aren't able to honour your bonus, but as explained in our email, your referral (or the person referring you) was identified as being in breach of our terms and conditions (for being distributed by a stranger or via a third-party deal or discount site). This term in our referral terms and conditions has not changed. Our referral offer is designed so that existing Spriggy users can spread the word about Spriggy in the spirit of genuine referral.

Complaint to financial ombudsman should do the trick

      • +1

They invited me to do that, even provided the email and phone number 😂.
I guess Spriggy is having a bad day

        • What’s the email address? I thought you could only phone.

          • @bobwokeup: I just replied to their email saying referal won't be honoured.

        • They are obliged to inform you of how to escalate the complaint, including ultimately to AFCA. I believe it's an offence in itself if they don't.

    • (I'm not super familiar with the laws, but my day job involves some interaction with this stuff)
anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing laws say it has to be kept for seven years after you no longer are a client.

i'm not sure if it would be on spriggy or indue for keeping the data

  • I understand we won’t get any bonus for reference, but will we still get the $40 for our own account?

    • +7

      ha ha ha ha ha

      good joke!

      You just got Spriggy'ed

    • Lol no

    • +1

I just want my $10 initial deposit back

    • +1

Just revoked my upvote. Everyone should do the same I think. Will never touch this brand again after I get back my deposit. It’s also great that I was meant to send the link to friends and family but haven’t got around to do so.

  • +4

Just incase you dont go through all the comments, leave your 1 star review here

    https://www.google.com/search?q=Spriggy+google+reviews&clien…

    • I love they have been knocked down about half a star already 😂

    • Waste of time. Google will remove review bombing.

      • +7

set reminder leave review random day between 2 & 26 weeks? use ozbargains reminder feature right under the report and bookmark buttons of this deal

  • +3

They need to update their website:

3.5 stars from over 280 Google reviews

Nearly 80% of Ozbargain users surveyed agree, Spriggy steals people's money

  • breach of terms and conditions by referring them to other people. Definitely cancelling the service.

  • Oh well, no $40 for me. No clicks on referral link so only missed $40.

But deal poster said he had over 150 clicks, which would have been potentially $6,000 in referrals payment that were void.

  • Damn, this sucks.

Now how do I unlink my payment method and cancel?

It seems you can only do it via chat in the app?

What a massive waste of time. Who's to say we don't know each other here on OzBargain?
What's the definition of a "friend"… someone you know (even remotely, right?).

    Grrrr!

  • +2

I have cancel my account as well, bad move and marketing far out!!

  • +6

@Adyb has gone radio silent after all neg reviews.

Sorry Adyb, we dont negotiate with scammers.

  • +1

I also received an email that they won't honour the bonus. Very disappointing. I even genuinely recommended this to a friend try but now wishing I hadn't

  • +3

What a shame! I was planning to sincerely introduce this product to my daughter. Now I just want to cancel it.

  • +4

    "Spriggy turned Stingy" - lol

  • were terms in pdf link of the opening post the same as when this deal was posted on OzBargain

use the Referral Offer for any purpose other than referring your friends and family
members for which it was intended

does anyone have a copy of the initial terms if this is not the case?

    asking because document states

    Last modified 3 May 2023

  • +2

I received the email notifying me I would not get the referral bonus.
Then 20 minutes later I received an automatic email telling me I would get the referral bonus if I follow the required steps.

I wonder if this email supersedes the previous one lol

  • +2

I 'deposited' $10, it shows up in my Spriggy account but it didn't come out of my external account, fingers crossed I can at least get $10 out of them after making 2 genuine referrals :/

  • +2

    垃圾公司 🙂

  • They must've figured out a way to extract the OzBargain-specific referral codes.
I didn't use the referral link/URL to sign up, but still got the email. I did use a referral code from OzB though…
Either that or they just simply blocked signups within a specific time period.

    • +3

Well they sent my wife an email saying her referrals won’t be paid out when she hasn’t even copied her code.

  • +7

Just a reminder that you can revoke your up-vote for this deal here. Wouldn't let me change it to a negative vote but atleast I don't need to support this Spriggy BS with my upvote.

  • +3

Haha 3.9 down to 3.3 rating on google. I am impressed by the quantity of bad reviews coming in.

    • +1

Should go down to 2.5 by end of week

      • +3

The recent 1 star Google reviews were removed when I look this morning. They are back to 3.9

This is beyond comprehension. Google is helping them get away with this scam

  • +1

I was 2 minutes away from depositing $10 before I received the email. Messaged them on the app asking to close account, but they left me on read, so I emailed them and threatened to contact AFCA. They closed my account within 20 minutes lol

    • +2

Oh well. At least we created a lot of work for them

  • +5

Looks like they’re posting fake reviews on Product Review 😂
Tam C and Louisa Thornton Davis couldn’t wait to join Product Review to leave positive feedback

    • Damage control hahaha

    • Member since 5 June 2023.
      Sounds legit

  • Got the same email - no referral bonus…

  • -6

Did anyone else get this email? I had only shared my referral code with my wife!

UPDATE: Oh, yeah, now I see in the thread heaps did. Perhaps the OP could address that in the description.

We have identified that you have either shared or used a Spriggy referral code or link in a way that may be considered distribution to strangers, or posting on a third-party deal or discount site.

Would the neggers care to elaborate what they mean by their neg?

      • -1

I’d like to know too, but there are heaps of gutless people on this page so don’t worry about it.

      • +2

I didn't neg you but it is probably because the same email was already posted 11 times before your comment. Yes I counted, and yes Ozb users can be petty lol

  • Disappointing and waste of time :/

  • +8

I'm constantly amazed at the ability for companies to underestimate the internet and not do simple stuff like cap their promotions.

They offered money to get people to refer them, and that's exactly what happened. They gained a huge number of customers in a very short period of time. How those codes were shared should be irrelevant - signing up a random person is no less valid than signing up someone you know personally.

So, if they were a bit smarter, they could have just put some limits on the number of referrals you could receive - they'd still get their signups, but they would only have to pay a smaller amount to the referring account. Then they also retain their goodwill, gain some new customers and increase awareness of their product, and not have to go into damage control to rectify their stuff up.

FWIW, I had an account for my daughter already and it's not a bad product (and would have potentially received 15+ bonuses, being one of the referrers that was on here before this promo started). I would never pay a monthly fee for this though and only have it for the year that's free with a NAB account, after which I will move to Kit (which will have hopefully matured a bit by then and fixed some missing features).

I genuinely know people who have kids the same age that have asked me for opinions on this (and also Kit), and thanks to them just refusing to pay out anything, i'm sure my future discussions will be painting Spriggy in a less positive light than I would have otherwise.

    • +3

nicely written - positive in the light of dark

    • Kids Cba debit cards are free

      • Yes, but there are some advantages to Spriggy and Kit for younger kids - we can pay the kids for jobs that they do, we can see when they're spending money and set limits, and they can set up their own savings accounts within the app to put money aside for something they want to buy. The main reason for us though, is it keeps spending money separate from their actual savings accounts which I don't want them to touch.

But there's no way I would pay for this stuff. Banks and related banking products have plenty of ways to make money - charging fees to hold accounts is not necessary.

        • Cba has youth saver account that earns interest and a transation account that has debit card.

It has age limit for kids to have debit card but its all free.

They already close my account but refuse to delete my personal data.

  • +8

To the people trying to review bomb, you have to leave 2 star reviews, google/apple etc never seem to remove those when there’s a mass bombardment of negs

    • +1

So scathing reviews with 2 stars are more effective than 1 star with no reviews?

      • Yep. I’m guessing companies and devs of apps find it easier to apply to google etc to get a bombardment of 1 star reviews removed. I’ve jumped on the review bomb thing on the past and my 2 stars never get revoked

    • May not always be the case. I noted that 2 star reviews are being removed as well.

  • +6

They created this card to teach kids about finance. They just taught mine to not trust banks. Mission accomplished

    • Damn good point.

  • +4

4.2 stars on Trustpilot, seems pretty good! A little too good to be true maybe?
    https://au.trustpilot.com/review/spriggy.com.au

  • I topped up with $10 the other day, and it has left my NAB account, but gee it's slow to hit the Spriggy account.

  • i received the email yesterday, and submitted the cancellation request right away.
i just received the cancellation confirmation email minutes ago.
seems they do not want to burn money, then i am not going to use this service anyway

  • For anyone else wondering how to get $10 back, I just asked them to refund the amount and then cancel. Got it back instantly.

  • +14

For those who want to complaint to financial and insurance ombudsman for these scammers to completely delete your personal data and send you proof of that, i will be posting a template tonight so you can just copy and paste it in the complaints form

This will create some extra work for them and also cost them $$$ for every complaint. And will make them regret not honoring the referrals. They may also get a juicy fine pending ombusdaman investigation.

The way i see it from old T&C is that only the original poster would not get their referrals approved. As terms state if individual X shares the referral in a way they dont approve. So initial $40 for signing up should be approved.

    • +3

Is it really a scam though? I think they could've handled it better by authorising on sign up, and making it more clear, but the phrase about deal sites was in their TS&C's from the beginning.

There are real people behind this company, potentially trying to fix a real problem that families have (at least I hope they're not just in it for a quick buck). Just worth asking yourself how much you care about not getting $40 before going all guns blazing.

If they don't give you your $10 back I'd be mad though, but I had no trouble getting it back and assume that'd be the case for everyone.

      • +3

I want my details removed. They are refusing.

        It qualifies for a complaint

        • Yeah fair enough! Is there not a 7 year requirement to keep that data by law though? Are there grounds for them to delete it?

          • @reloxation: Yes. They didnt approve the promotion. So no reason for them to keep my data.

            • @easternculture: Hmmmm but you kinda consent to all that stuff when you sign up right? I fully support removing your data, if you have some success please let me know!

              • +1

@reloxation: Well they withdrew their part of the contract (promotion). You have a right to withdraw you consent.

                • @easternculture: You don’t have to “consent” to your data being held in Australia: in certain circumstances, it’s simply the law. There are data retention requirements which they have to abide by and termination of contract doesn’t exempt them.

They will be holding it probably indefinitely with nothing you can do.

        • I also requesred to deletw all my personal info i provide thwm and they reply with they are only complying with AFSL to keep records and pointed me to read tgeir privacy policy

Can i habe a copy on how to force them in rem8ving all my details as i have no intention dealing business with tgem

      • +2

Agreed, definitely not a scam but handled very poorly with no change management at all. The support is actually really quick and efficient! They’ve confirmed I will get my referral bonus but they did say they had members applying multiple times at the same address, so that’s understandable but again could have been handled much better.

        • +4

Yeah a statement or something would have been nice. It's just crazy the contrast between how this was handled and something like Cheddar which was a five star experience. That being said, Cheddar shut down after their promo, so OzBargain seems to do well at bankrupting companies lmao. Ultimately Spriggy probably isn't getting many new paying customers out of this after OzB abused the shit out of the deal, so they probably had to do it.

          • +1

@reloxation: Yeah I totally understand why they had to do it as they want paying customers at the end of the day but you’re right there’s a way to go about it.

            • @bobwokeup:

              they want paying customers

i was genuinely going to use them for my son and even signed up for a nab bank account. Many of us did i imagine.

              • @easternculture: Ditto here, had already showed my kid the card they were getting… They just had to honour their advertised deal and they had me as a customer

        • They would have known about the signups within hours of being posted on ozbargain and could have paused the promo pending review.

They chose to keep it going as to shareholders and new investors, these are good statistics which im sure they will use when they go for a round of funding.
