Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions

Updates:

  • 27/06/23 2pm – Turkish Lira have crashed even more, so I've corrected all prices in this guide!
    • Original deal post rates: Basic TL₺63.99 (~A$4.06), Standard TL₺97.99 (~A$6.22), Premium TL₺130.99 (~A$8.31)
  • 07/07/23 2am – Updated FAQ section to include all error codes as a result of the 30-day local restriction lockout.
  • 08/07/23 11pm – Updated Instructions section to include a new sign up method via OlduBil's Turkish Virtual Mastercard (Instructions – Method #2), with screenshots (tested and confirmed). I'll be drafting another set of instructions to separate Method #1 (Part 2) as another sign up method via a Turkey phone number. Stay tuned!

You probably know by now - if I make a guide, best believe it's going to be good and better than the previous one. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

This new guide has now been updated to include:

  • problems related to new subscriber sign-ups to Netflix Turkey. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • new statistics in regards to pricing
  • screenshots at each necessary step of the sign up process (yes, I unnecessaily spent a chunk of money to test the local region lockout and to obtain screenshots to better guide everyone through the sign up process! I hope this helps - please see Instructions Part 3 for these screenshots)

Note that due to a recent and continuing crash in the Turkish Lira currency, the TRY-AUD is hitting an all time low. All prices in this guide are current as of 27 June 2023.

Netflix Post History Notes
09/06/2023 - This post Netflix Region Lock
28/01/2023 Price Hike
22/10/2022 Price Hike
14/06/2022 Price Hike
01/10/2021

Similar to my last post, I'm resharing this guide after previous deal post expired due to Netflix imposing a lock region lock. Luckily, there are no more price hikes for now, after having the third price hike for Turkey within a 10 month period.

  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they increased prices multiple times (Example: Premium plan from TL₺54.99 to TL₺77.99 to TL₺93.99 to TL₺130.99 in a span of just over a year).
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible, so avoid this path.
  • NEW!! Netflix Argentina is now ARS999 (A$6.10) for the Basic Plan and ARS2,399 (A$14.64) for the Premium Plan (in the last Netflix post, Argentina prices were ARS699 (A$4.27) for the Basic Plan and ARS1,899 (A$11.59) for the Premium Plan - that's a 42.9% and 26.3% increase, respectively). The Argentina Peso has dropped, but plans are still more expensive.

Please note: If you DO NOT have a Turkey number, please sign up via instructions Part 1 and then Part 3. Avoid doing Part 2

There are plenty of previous threads on users commenting their experience. Please read it if you are stuck. See here and here and here and here and here

Instructions – Method #1 (If you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month)

Please read the following instructions carefully.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Direct Method - No Gift Cards - MOST LIKELY TO FAIL - AVOID)

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix on a new tab and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method

Possibly working cards from: 28 Degrees, ANZ Rewards, Citibank Debit, Macquarie

Possible Problem: If it asks for a Turkish mobile number, you will have to find a working one so they can send you verification. AFAIK, there is no way bypassing this and you will need to sign up via Part 3

Part 3 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Using Gift Cards if Part 2 Fails) - EASIEST METHOD

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership)

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card (any value is fine, even if it's not enough to cover the full month)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery (at night time AEST), they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Australian account with a VPN on gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card See this screenshot:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

Possible Problem: When redeeming the Turkey Netflix Gift Card, it gives an error (code invalid, etc)
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed. If after several VPNs and this issue still occurs, try to reach out to your place of purchase due to them possibly issuing you an incorrect code

  5. Follow the prompts of the sign up process. This screenshot will show the first page after applying the gift card. Click "Next" to land on this page. Choose the plan you want, then click "Next" to land on the payment page in step 6

  6. Proceed by choosing a backup payment method. Be careful with this step and look at the screenshot!

  • If you did Part 1 instructions correctly then your payment method is already saved within your account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom. On the next page, click "Next" (see screenshot). Now Netflix will want to confirm your details to make sure it is correct as per (this screenshot). Double check, tick the checkbox and start your membership!

  • Otherwise, if for some reason you haven't done Part 1 correctly or your debit/credit card has expired, you will have to add a new debit/credit card (see screenshot). Beward this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification (which I guarantee you don't have otherwise you would have done Part 2) - if this happens, please complete Part 1 again (see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: If you bought a gift card that has a higher value than your selected plan, you’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

  1. You’re done! Turn off your VPN and enjoy your subscription :)

Instructions – Method #2 (If you want Netflix to charge your OlduBil Turkish Virtual Mastercard each month)

Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership).

  1. Log in to your Australian Netflix account, or sign up for an account. Make sure you log in with VPN turned off (logging into your Australian account with a VPN gives an error).

  2. Activate a VPN service, and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs, where possible.

Possible Problem: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  3. With VPN on, refresh the main netflix webpage. Alternatively, go to this link:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check and/or change your VPN if needed

  4. Click on "Restart Membership" and follow the prompts of the sign up process. Click "Next and then select the plan you want. Click "Next"and then click "Credit or debit card". Enter your OlduBil Virtual Mastercard details, full name, tick the T&Cs declaration, and then click "Start Membership".

  5. At this stage you're done. Don’t enter anything on this page. Netflix will ask some random questions (just to set up your account). After that, your account will be complete, and you can enjoy your subscription!

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: It seems like every new sign-up to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This can take anywhere from as little as several days to 30 days. There are many reports from OzBargainers and others reporting this error disappears within 30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise the error will pop up). Since this is only temporary, it shouldn't be a problem after 30 days or so, andthis small hassle is well worth the savings.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN for this

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely! See Part A

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: You can contact live chat and ask them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

    • @Super Saiyan hey there, thanks so much for your support and appreciation. Glad to help you save money on all these subscriptions!

  • +2

Tried multiple VPNs, multiple gift cards from multiple sellers, multiple combinations of VPNs (i got desperate), but nothing is working. Just keep getting "The code entered is not valid" error. Went through NordVPN, ExpressVPN, UrbanVPN, Hola, Windscribe, PrivadoVPN, ProtonVPN. I give up. Time to uninstall all these VPNs and hopefully get a refund on those gift cards. This was all nightmare of an experience. I'm exhausted.

Happy for you all! $7.49 per month for premium sounds amazing

@Bladeyyy21 send me a PM mate, I'll sign up for you.

      • +1

Thanks for the offer but I finally got it to work. Decided to try creating a new netflix account. Followed your instructions re no current subscription (subscribe then ask support for refund). Then for some reason yet again it did not work, same error. Was about to give up completely but decided to try one last time on my phone instead of pc and it worked!!! (It wasn't working on both my pc and phone previously with several vpns). No idea what changed. Same vpn, same gift cards, same error on pc before trying my phone… weird stuff.

        Anyway, thanks a ton ISP

        • +1

@Bladeyyy21 glad it worked, amazing. Enjoy!

  • HMM… with the failures with Turgame over the weekend (using a CBA Mastercard that I used for this a few times before at Turgame) I thought I'd try AMEX card and it went through. Just need to wait till 5PM to redeem it now. On phone to CBA now to see why transaction failing

  • Initially signed up with gift cards using the method in this post. Region lock came off on Sunday 6th which was approx 30 days. Back up payment method is NAB credit card, due to be deducted for the first time on 14 Aug. I just updated my billing date to "end of the month" and it has deducted my credit card for the half a month, which went through successfully. Info on transaction in my credit card says "Netflix.com Amsterdam"

  • Ok the giftcard from turgame today redeemed. Now good till mid march

  • Similar issues with others concerning CC. I bought 2 x 200TL - applied and now in credit to November 2023. :)

    • Was there any region lock on you after applying your GC? Did you apply it with VPN or not??

      • Hi, no region lock and no VPN. Just bought some Turgane gift cards and applied in account. All simple

        • Thank you CNH have a good one

  • Hi I waited for my billing period to end, however my CC payment failed. I managed to update it successfully via live chat and I can see they charged it.

However I am still geo locked with the "account cannot be used in this location" error. Anyone know how to get past this?

  • Turgame hates me and cant get it from them, but g2a is pretty instant. Bought 2x 100TL, 3x200TL and managed to apply it all consecutively today so I'm good til 2nd May.

G2A is also like a marketplace so the displayed option isnt the cheapest, make sure to click Offers. Selling 200TL for $8.33USD which 28D charged $12.83 AUD

  • I got the "card could not be charged" issue so I bought a TR gift card, applied it with VPN on, and now my region lock is back.

    • Next time redeem the gift card with VPN off if you could do so inside the account.

      • I had my CC rejected after a couple of months (AMEX). Bought GCs from G2A (Turgame wasn't working for me for some reason) and applied them to my netflix account all without any VPN on. Netflix service resumed immediately and I can watch without any region lock.

        Thanks ISP!

        • You applied a Turkish netflix gift card without VPN? So on https://www.netflix.com/au/redeem ?
          Surprised that actually works

          • +1

@Bladeyyy21: Yeah I was a bit surprised as well, however it's still working today and no region lock. Might be good for ISmellPennies to add the tip about not using a VPN for the gift card to the FAQ since a few people seem to be having this issue.

          • +3

@Bladeyyy21: Found this in Netflix help center:
"You can use a gift card purchased in a different country as long as the gift card is in the same currency as your Netflix bill."

  • Cards declined so bought 200 from g2a and 200 for turgame to test, both applied fine without a vpn.

    • Just confirming after applying the gift card without vpn, there was no geolock apied on to your account? Cheers

      • Nope no lock

        • Thank you PostalDude have a good one

    • That's so weird that you can apply a Turkish Netflix gift card on the AU Netflix GC redeem page, assuming that's what's meant by without a vpn. Thanks for the info

  • Thank you ISP my region lock is lifted day 29.. thank you

    • @fritzsticker amazing, you're welcome :)

  • Can no longer login to Turgame. Clicking "Buy Now" results in this error: We have noticed that you are accessing our site via Proxy or VPN.
You must turn off the proxy or VPN connection before you can complete the payment.

Tried with Windscribe and Urban VPN. Browser plug-in for both. Tested for DNS leak and it was clean. Looks like the good times are over.

    • You're not meant to use a VPN when buying on Turgame.

      • Interesting. You're right, it let me login without a VPN. I'd bought the GC from G2A by then which Netflix rejected, so still SOL.

        • If Netflix rejects the GC, then the issue is with the VPN provider. Change to another one.

          • +1

@I Smell Pennies: Thanks. Seemed to be a problem with my home network. Tried on 4G with phone and PIA and it worked.

  • +1

After spending thousands of dollars (in AUD equivalent) on Turgame with no problems, they finally hit me with a verification/security check before processing my last recent transaction.

Many people here have raised issues or complained in the past about providing them with their request. All you literally have to do is take one pic with your ID, credit card used for the transaction as well as a note saying you made the transaction [with some fake signature] (they send you an email with exactly what you need to do). They only need to see your name as well as the last 4 digits of the card, you can blur absolutely everything else. This is what I sent them and within an hour, my transaction was approved and GCs sent.

TL;DR: If Turgame asks for verification, just do it and blur out everything except for your name and last 4 digits of card number. It's not hard. I believe afterwards, every transaction will work flawlessly.

    • Hey @I Smell Pennies
Question for you.. I've noticed a few posts above stating to add additional gift cards with the VPN switched off (after successful signup via your instructions above).
I haven't tried this myself yet but I've noticed going to https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem automatically redirects to the AU domain (https://www.netflix.com/au/redeem).

Do you know if a Turkish GC will still be accepted via that AU domain/page?

      • I always use a VPN to redeem the giftcards otherwise it will bounce to AU NF instead of Turkey

        • +1

Thanks mate, I saw a comment up above that adding a Turkish GC with the VPN on has restarted the region lock period. Has that been the case for you?

I've only just signed up so I'm in the first 30 day lock period but just want to understand the best way of adding GC's without inadvertently restarting the lock period

          • @Super Saiyan: Redeemed 6 giftcards now and only had 1 28 day lockout. You can't redeem a code without a VPN

            • @DavidFW1960: Hi as per postal dude and CNH reply above, just tried applying a turkish GC from turgame, and redeemed with no vpn. Can confirm as well no region lock as well. I prefer GC rather than oldibull as cheaper. Thank you guys..

    • they wouldnt accept my drivers license and they wanted passport so I cancelled it.

  • Just FYI, my attempt to sign up with an existing netflix membership using the Oldubil card required a Turkish phone number today to confirm the account before they proceed, so that method may no longer be an option for restarting memberships, even if you already have the funds on your card.

I couldn't find any reasonable options to verify a Turkish number so I will probably just let the 150 Lira hang out in Oldubil until some other deal comes along…

      • Thanks for the info! I did check that app out when I was googling for options for a Turkish number but it seemed a bit sketchy so I just skipped it. Guess I should have been more persistent! Good to know if I get some time later to give it another try.

      • Awesome!!! Thank you for this - just what I needed!
@I smell Pennies - recommend you add this app to the guide.
For $2.40 it saved me trying a million vpns until one worked.
Netflix might block the numbers at some point but they are working for now!

    • No need for any of that. Just hop on Netflix support chat, ask them for a payment form (filled out in chat) and off you go. Worked a treat. They will instead verify you by sending you an email link you have to click.

      • Are you referring to the phone number being needed?

I tried a card earlier today through the chat and it was declined. I think tried the card manually within my Netflix account and I got to the phone number section. I am not sure if that means the card with go through or not if I can get a phone number?

        • Having attempted via the app as well with two different Australian cards, first (Mastercard) of which got rejected at the card entry page, and the second (Amex) progressing to next screen and allowing me to reach the phone number page, I’d guess that your card would be accepted if the Turkish number step was successful.

          • @ahara: Yeah, right. Just kind of curious to know if anyone successfully used a Turkish number to go past that stage. The card was a brand new issued card (Mastercard) that I just received as a replacement to an expired card, so it was the first time I used it. Not sure if that played a part to getting me to that step.

  • Unblocked after 28 days!! Thanks ISP for this one and the Spotify deal!

  • +1

Worked fine for me till it didn't.
Went through the gift card method (G2A 200TL), and couldn't use for 28 days or so without VPN, but then worked fine.

Now it's come to debit the previously-accepted credit card it can't process the payment:
"Update your payment information to continue. We were unable to process your last payment. Please update your payment information to continue enjoying Netflix."
Money in the account, just… won't process. Trying it again fails, with or without VPN: "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use."

So had about 3 weeks of use (PREMIUM) from the $10US (~$15AUD)on the original G2A cards.

Decided to get more gift cards today, tried out 100TL and it worked (WITH VPN).
Bought another 400TL and applied those successfully.
Now paid up Premium till early December for about $33AUD, so that's a little bit of a (
ahem*) premium on the credit card method, but nearly 4 months for the price of about 6 weeks at AU prices… not too shabby.

Of course, I'm now scared to mess around with my credit card details in case I get region-locked or rumbled… Diarised it to look at it again in early December.

    • I'm in a similar boat as you, as are many others I guess.

I tried to verify my existing credit card by using a number from the pingme app, but after inputting the number I was getting an error message on the Netflix website. I tried doing this with and without a VPN on but didn't make a difference.

I'm not sure whether it's because my credit card is an Australian card (Citi mastercard), or whether the pingme number doesn't work? I'll try again another time with a different card perhaps.

      • Tell me how it goes as I am thinking of trying the Pingme app, but not sure if it's a waste or time and money to purchase that one time verification phone number. What payment methods do they offer for the purchase of the number?

    • Can I clarify something? When you redeemed your latest gift cards (AFTER your region lock had been lifted) - you said you had your VPN on? And your region lock was not re-applied?

There seem to be some conflicting experiences. Schmuppet said they redeemed a gift card with VPN on and the region lock came back.

Whereas a couple of people above said they redeemed gift cards without their VPN on to avoid the region lock coming back.

      • I've redeemed 3 200TL cards after lock was lifted with VPN ON. I have no idea how people are doing it with VPN off as if it's at the AU it won't accept the code (or didn't when I originally set up account in Turkey)

        • +1

seems like a lot of people successfully redeeming them with vpn off now. I redeemed mine with on til May, ill be so sad if the geolock comes back lol!

      • +1

Applied gift cards with VPN ON.
VPN Windscribe, confirmed it was Istanbul (Lygos per Windscribe).
All working fine now… till December.

  • I've been using this method for a couple of months now, it became unlocked after 30 days and so far everything has been working well but my most recent payment was declined because it has expired and I need to update my credit card.

Unfortunately when I attempted to update my details the system wants to send a code to a Turkish mobile number which I obviously don't have!

    Could anyone offer any solutions?

    Thanks in advance…

    • use a giftcard without a vpn, most credit cards are being declined now

      • Hi Postal Dude - did you redeem Turkish gift cards on the Australian netflix website? I assume so since you said your VPN was off, but just wanted to clarify. And they were accepted fine?

        • +1

Yes the turkish cards on the aus site, both worked fine.

  • +1

My commbank ultimate rewards card just got declined at the end of my 30 day lockout, too. :(

    • me too. I have the exact same card. my first payment went through OK, the second one was declined.

With all these payment options dropping away, me thinks that some eagle-eyed Netflix higher-ups are watching this thread intently and plugging holes wherever they can.

  • Damn, it looks like I may have to resort to using gift cards again…

I've used Turgame in the past, are they still reliable?

    • Turgame and g2a are both fine although I had issues with Turgame and my CBA mastercard this week. Amex was fine.

    • Turgame + Revolut = no problems after about 30 GC purchases.

I got the error email today that 'your payment was unsuccessful'. I've previously been using an Australian AMEX with no issues (and I didn't get a message from AMEX when Netflix advised that the payment was unsuccessful). I tried following the FAQ where OP suggested updating credit card details via the online chat - submitted a new credit card via their online chat form but payment was rejected on my CBA Mastercard (no message from CBA though). I just bought three 200TL gift cards from Turgame with no VPN and received the codes within 10 minutes. Added the three gift cards to my Netflix account with no VPN and everything appears fine so far. Will update if a lock out occurs.

    • Any lockout?

      • +1

No lock out or any issues. Recommend the gift cards with no VPN

  • Just a thought, I know with Disney+ you can subscribe to a plan using iTunes Gift Card. Can the same be done for Netflix, but from Turkey?

  • I just paid with a Turgame gift card, it seemed it's gone through. the balance has shown up on my account page.

I tried to use Oldubil but can't deposit any funds, tried with a few cards, mastercard, amex etc. all failed. so ended up I had to purchase a Turgame gift card.

  • Wise notified me yesterday that Wise cards can no longer be used in Turkey and the Wise card was cancelled immediately. Netflix was paid via Wise. Going to cancel Netflix anyway.

  • I tried again to join netflix.
Then I saw that the old profile which was related to the geolocation error has been deactivated. I tried to sign up for netflix australia both with the same account I used and with a new one but nothing works. When I go to enter the email address regardless of what it is I get this error "Sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again later." You can help me?

  • Is there a limitation as to how many gc you can reedem? I bought 6 and can only apply 5 gc

I think you answered your own question

Had the same error as everyone else with the card not working. Ended up buying 2 Gift cards from Turgame with VPN OFF.
Tried to redeem them with VPN ON with the netflix.com/tr-en/redeem site and it kept coming up with error and not accepting the gift cards. I then tried it with VPN OFF and they worked straight away. Subscription now via gift cards till November 2023.

    • I have the same error. Do you think its also because even though I canceled I still have two days on till my billing cycle ends?

  • As a Commbank customer, I've attempted to purchase the giftcards from Turgame but cannot receive the 'Netcode'. I am registered for Netcide but have not received anything by either SMS or via the app. Any ideas?

Tried doing it through Microsoft edge ?

Mines with CBA, VPN off when using turgame , only suggested edge as that's what I'm using . Otherwise try in your mobile phone. You might have a adblocker or something on.

      • +1

my CBA mastercard failed recently with CBA and I have used is 5 times on Turgame successfully. Also my Amex card worked fine. This is with the Brave Browser. I might try Edge next time - using a different browser was one of Turgames suggestions. It seemed like the 2FA on Mastercard was validating fine - the URL also said success but when it went back to Turgame it was just showing the cart again.

    • Try another bank.

    Super stuff OP 👍👍👍
    owe you coffee/beer, thanks !!

    You're a bloody legend!
I just passed my 30 days geo-lock and managed to get my payment method updated via live chat (with NAB so charged me $7.52). Will definitely be buying you a coffee. Thank you! 🖤

    • I just wanted to ask/double check - So your Australian credit card is working fine for payment?

      • yes that's right, so far no issues.

  • My billing date is 25th of every month.

My question is how many time can I move this billing date? For example I move to the 17th September then wait till closer to Sep 15th then move it again further date.

Reason being to see if my 28Degree card will work fine and not block like some of you guys

My account for over a year is still going strong, payment deducted from debit card just now.

    • Which debit card are you using?

      • @CodeXD Suncorp debit (no international transaction fees)

    • +1

You absolute legend, my credit card actually got stolen and had to update new payment method as just received an email notifying me that my existing payment method had failed. My heart sunk - followed your guide again and asked live chat to send a payment form pop up and it worked like a charm!!!

Previously tried updating payment method but it kept asking for a turkish mobile number.

I know I speak on behalf of the OzB community and thank you for all your hard work putting together such an informative guide.

@A female dog thank you so much for your kind comment <3

        Glad everything is sorted :)

      • Does anyone know if it matters whether or not you have the VPN on when going into the live chat? When I did it, I had the VPN off.
Did you have it on or off when asking for the payment form?

        • I turned on vpn to make sure I was in touch with a Turkish agent. I think that definitely helped.

          • +1

@A female dog: Thanks. Maybe that is a mistake I made as I had it turned off.

  • Got the same dreaded email as everyone else.

    Your payment didn’t go through

    1st month, used gift card
2nd month, took money out of my 28D card successfully
and now 3rd month payment failed.

I've bought gift cards from turgame but now stuck on pending payment.

    Hopefully will come through tonight

    • you should get the code after 4… (Incidentally g2a will give you the code instantly)

      • Thanks for this. I wish I hadn't tried to make duplicated purchases now XD

Ah well, won't ever have enough netflix gift card on the account.

        • +1

Interestingly I just tried Turgame again with my CBA Mastercard and went through the verification process and payment looks like it passed but didn't complete AGAIN. Amex went straight through.
I also had to enter a code on Turgame for 2FA it looks like they just enabled. (I'll be paid up till April now LOL)
