  • NO COA = NO OS

    So no Windows installed before?

    • These machines will be shipped blank, with no OS installed.

      • +6

These machines will be shipped blank, with no OS installed.

I understand that, I want to know any Windows 10 used on it before? Because if Windows 10 used on it before, shouldn't have problem reinstall and activate it on the same PC.

        • +13

Yeah, but OP ain't gonna guarantee that. They're selling as-is. What you choose to do with that after is up to you. I'd guess they've been sourced from a company upgrade that saw these being wiped before selling to OP.

      • +10

Chances are there is a Windows 8 Pro or Windows 10 Pro license embedded in the UEFI bios from the factory. They don't make brand name PCs with a COA on the computer case any more because the license is actually embedded in the UEFI bios. Every time you install Windows it automatically detects the edition, auto activates and installs the Windows installation. It's been that way for years.

So it may be a good idea for buyers to install Windows 10 on it to see if it will auto activate with an embedded Windows license if they want to use Windows.

Unfortunately the i5 7500 CPU isn't supported by Windows 11 so can't install that.

All you need is a USB flash drive + download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to create a Windows 10 installation flash drive.

        https://www.techspot.com/downloads/6734-windows-10-installat…

A few years ago i bought a used Dell Precision 5810 (from Reboot IT) and it came with a Windows Pro license embedded in the UEFI bios. It did not come with a COA on the case. And this is a PC which was manufactured in 2016 so even that is 7 years old with an embedded Windows Pro license in the UEFI bios.

        • you can easily install and run optimized windows 11, that run faster and more stable than anthing from microsoft, on these but i prefer win10 its runs a bit faster

Use Rufus to create bootable media that skips the checks and you're good to go.

@Clear: The best thing is with Rufus it can create a Local Admin Account. Dont have to log into windows 11 with an email just to use it.
Rufus will download the Windows11.iso and create a fool proof USB installer, 4GB ram limit removed, TPM skip, create a Local Admin Account
buy taylor swift tickets. you name it.

      • -2

Agreed with others - if time is not a major factor in this clearance, it's simple enough to install Windows 10 and check the activation on one of these units.

        • +3

For any business, time is always a major factor coz time is money. I'd be guessing that extra $10 for win10 is not worth the extra 20 you pay somebody to check.

    • +2

That’s exactly what it means. :)

    • +3

You can install and use Windows 10 indefinitely without activation, but it'll have a watermark in the bottom right corner.
If that irks you , pick up a six dollar MSDN Windows key from eBay - sure, it's not 'legit', but it works and it's fine. DO NOT buy Office from eBay, that's a security issue.

At a hundred bucks, including delivery, this is a great deal.

      • You can install and use Windows 10 indefinitely without activation

Windows 10 will remember if Windows installed on it before.

        • +1

Microsoft knows if the motherboard has a Windows key attached. These PCs have 'no COA', which means they don't have a key attached.

          • @jcon:

These PCs have 'no COA', which means they don't have a key attached.

These kind of PCs doesn't have the COA on it anymore.

      • Hi what’s the issue with office keys on eBay , I’ve not heard this before

        • I’ve not heard this before

Have you ever try reinstall Windows 10 or 11 on a new SSD? You don't need to enter the key again and it will activate automatically.

          • @superforever: Sorry think I replied to wrong comment, I wanted to know what this is about from the previous comment

‘DO NOT buy Office from eBay, that's a security issue.’

        • +9

Dodgy eBay keys are from corporate fleets or MSDN licences.

For Windows, it doesn't make any difference to you, the purchaser, unless Microsoft finds out the keys have been resold (against the rules!) and they cancel the licence, but I've never seen that happen at if you paid six bucks then it's worth the risk.

However, for Office, the corporate admin/ MSDN licence holder/ whatever has administrator access over all accounts. That means they will be able to access any files you put up on OneDrive. You don't want that.

          • @jcon: Thank you

          • @jcon: Tagging on here to say that MS Office is normally stupidly cheap for students and education staff - and surely everyone knows at least one student or teacher (or someone with an edu email).

      • -3

These PCs likely already have a Windows Pro license embedded in the UEFI bios. That's how branded premade PCs have been factory made for years unless you specifically configure and request it at the factory with no Windows license.

And this merchant is getting confused thinking that no COA on the case means absolutely no Windows license. That's not absolutely true because they haven't made brand premade PCs with a COA on the case for years. It the license is all embedded into the UEFI bios which Windows 10 detects during the setup and auto activates Windows with it.

You won't find a moderately modern branded PC with a COA on the case any more and that dates back a number of years. UEFI embedded license.

So peoples don't go buying a Windows license for this now. Wait for the PC to arrive and check to see if Windows 10 will auto activate with a UEFI embedded Windows license.

        • +10

Please don't make assumptions about this.

These units have no license key on the system board and are sold as No OS

          • -3

@Calmago: How do you know that. Has it been checked so?.

Had you tried installing Windows 10 on any of these PCs to see if it auto activates a license?. If in the Windows 10 setup it gets to the partition selection screen and also without the Windows edition selection screen without asking for a license key then it had detected an embedded license from the UEFI.

        • This is the best advice for sure, and removes any complication. It has always been my experience with the newer HP Elitebook/Elitedesk line for the licence to be embedded in the motherboard.

You can install and use Windows 10 without consequence long enough to figure out the next step.

          • @RJK: Yeah there's a good chance of embedded Windows license.

            • @hollykryten: chance you can take but they dont hold responsibility, the microsoft penalties are hefty

              • +1

@johnfuller: Even if it doesn't have an embedded Windows license. You can currently buy a legit Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro license from Stacksocial for $29.99 USD. The normal price is $199 USD. Stacksocial is not a dodgy online key seller but a big commerce company from the USA called stackcommerce.

                https://www.stacksocial.com/sales/microsoft-windows-11-pro

              • @johnfuller: There are no 'Microsoft penalties' for private individuals using incorrect Windows activation keys.

                • @jcon: If you mean by Windows keys from those dodgy online key stores. I wouldn't touch those. Well it wasn't for Windows but i've bought an Office key from one of those stores and it became disabled by the activation server within a year. Actually i bought two of them around the same time and both were disabled and removed from my Microsoft account. Waste of money.

  • +3

Good price, looking for the micro FF though.

  • 161 listed in stock.

    • +5

There was only 120 in stock, I don't know where you found the others.

      • -1

When I went to add to cart and added a qty above 161 ie 888 it said you could only supply 161.

        Now its says 88 available.

Must have been a browser issue on my end.

  • +4

Its mentioned heavily scratched. Could you please post real pictures of unit OP?

  • +2

    Trigger pulled. Why not, right?

  • +23

We have a pallet of these to clear off. Only a small quantity is available.

    My brain hurts.

    • Maybe small quantity of this model available XD

    • +10

A pallet is a small quantity for their scale.

      • +1

        ^^This^^

some have some heavy scratches and marks

How bad are the scratches, would it be so nice we can see some actual pictures of these units.

  • Hope the motherboard on this kind of PC are compatible with normal desktop PC case and PSU but I don't think so.

    • +1

They aren’t. It’s all custom dell sizes. No standard atx motherboard sizes, and psu will not be standard size either.

      • Yes, that is why "I hope"

  • +1

Would it be possible to throw a small gpu in this?

    • +61

Yes, but I’d advise against throwing it. Gently installing would be the way to go.

    • People report success with low profile GT1030's in Dell SFF's. This one should also support that.

  • Assuming if I slap Windows 10/11 on this, then it will make a half decent Plex server or would the onboard Intel graphics be a bottleneck?

    • +4

this would be a fantastic plex server, the 7th gen can handle transcoding many 1080p streams simultaneously. i wouldn't even worry about windows and just run plex off ubuntu server.

    • +3

The Intel graphics definitely won't be a bottleneck, unless you're trying to transcode more than 10x 1080p videos or more than 2x 4K HDR videos. You'll just need to make sure you have Plex Pass, otherwise Jellyfin is completely free and open source.

ie. It's a great and efficient option

    • It won't be especially power efficient for that though - if that's a concern. I mean, it's not a gaming rig, but it will be sitting there 90% of the day doing almost nothing but still chewing 100w.

      • +1

This thing should be in the 30-40w range most the time. I have a similar workstation with a 8800 that chews around 35w at idle.

    • Lol don't slap windows on it for a Plex server.
Get unraid or something else Linux.

  • Is this capable of outputting 4K60 signal? (what version of DisplayPort does it have?)
And is it powerful enough for smooth 4K60 youtube playback?

    • Max Resolution (DP) 4096x2304@60Hz

      • 4k playback is another question.

    • The on board GPU can decode VP8 and VP9 YouTube codecs. At what resolution I am not sure..

  • Can normal size graphic card fit in this case? How many SATA bay available?

Planning to get one for plex server. Thks

  • Any deals on USFF machines?

  • Would this work as a basic computer for the grandparetns with window10 and easy enough to set up?

    • +1

      yes

      • +1

You're right, it would. But that's like saying a Kia Carnival would also be a good vehicle for them to run around the neighbourhood.

Having said that, at this price point I can't recommend anything else, especially after having a browse of ACT's site. The Tiny/Mini/Micro's I'd recommend instead all start at ~$150.

    • +1

Assuming your grandparents are not the "installing windows is a breeze" type of people, you'll have to do that for them.
If you are not so inclined then - if you can and are happy enough to spend it - you might be better off forking out say $100 more for a box with an at least 8th gen i3/i5 (as that will then 'natively' support Windows 11) and with Windows already installed.
On occasion these appear under $200 even, but then you'd have to wait.

      • Recently bought a Dell 8th gen/16gb/256gb ssd with wifi for $197 after a 22% off coupon code and $20 cashback so it can be done

  • Does this not come with a Wireless NIC? I want to use this as a base for a local video security system. If I have to buy my own Wireless NIC separately, that's ok. Just wondering.

    • I see no WiFi card in the rear photo so there must not be built in WiFi on this model.

There is under the Accessories drop down box a selection to add a USB WiFi adapter for $25 to the order. But if you want a PCIe WiFI card then i guess you would have to buy and install that yourself. The PCIe card will however have to come with to support SFF because this PC is a SFF factor.

      • -6

This comment did nothing for me, ngl. I know these machines have built in wireless antennas - but I need OP to confirm whether or not those are still onboard. The little black tab in the left rear of the machine SHOULD be a wireless antenna. But again, need OP confirmation.

        • +4

          Just trying to help.

This doesn't come with inbuilt WiFi. Why would the merchant offer a WiFi USB dongle as a purchase if this already comes with built in WiFi. This model only has built in WiFi it was selected at the factory during the purchase order. The majority of corps won't select that as they use Ethernet in the office.

It's in the spec that there's no built in WiFi unless ordered so during the purchase. It is not a factory default config. If it was integrated as factory default then it would say so like it says with Ethernet.

          https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05365730

And if it does then APC would have it listed in the specifications selection on the product page. But it only lists Ethernet as a connectivity option.

So i'm afraid you will need to either buy a USB WiFi dongle or a WiFi PCIe card (SFF compatible).

    Any 8500 deals coming up?

  • Can we add 2 x 3.5 inch hard drives in it. I am willing to remove dvd drive to make up more space if required. Planning to use it as Raid server. Please confirm if anyone has installed 2 x 3.5 inch hard drives?

    • +1

      From googling specs of 600 G3, looks like it has space for 1 x 2.5", 1 x 3.5", 1 x DVD Drive slim.
      The 800 G3 has space for 2 x 3.5" this I know as I have one.
Anyone who has one of these can confirm?

  • Bought one, thanks OP. Looks like I'm replacing my raspberry pi which has been faithfully running Pi-hole, Plex and Logitech Media Server for 5+ years. I received my Philips monitor yesterday too, very nice!

  • Discount code takes $25 off their other PCs too.

  • @Calmago could you pass on our comments to your fellow packers regarding horrible packaging

  • For those asking about Windows. (Generalising here) When larger businesses buy hardware they immediately get re-imaged with a new image using volume licensing. When they sell/offload the hardware the hard drives either get zeroed or destroyed. This doesn't mean the computers don't come with their own licenses though. I don't think HP even sell hardware without an OEM license, not that I've ever seen anyway. It's not like it's a custom built PC from your local shop. I've just purchased one knowing the risk that it may not come with a license, but I'm almost certain it does.

    • +1

point is people should not buy this expect there will be a windows 10 license

and no guarantee by the seller that it will.

"Please don't make assumptions about this.
These units have no license key on the system board and are sold as No OS"

      basically buyer be aware

      • And why would a company then pay for a COA when they were going to use their own volume license anyway….or for that matter if these had linux installed on them previously etc….

  • no express checkout option without making an account ?

  • -2

    No os no use

  • Having worked at Compaq/HP there are CTO builds done without licensing as enterprises could save that cost and use there enterprise volume licenses. So dont assume there is license coming in uefi etc with these. you could search HP part surfer with the build ID and it will list out all OEM components used to include OS details also. But often the cost to include it is not so high so most organization would forgo the smalls savings of removing it. Also some orgs forward think the donation of such units to charity and school schemes, some not all. But if seller is saying dont assume this they must be in better position to know this then us.

Can the seller perhaps provide product number so we can lookup https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchby=product
I am keen to know CPU options for this SFF. i.e could it take a i7 Quad core.
