  • Where do I check if my Westpac card is eligible for this deal?

    • +5

I think you just have to wait for an email, there is this section in your internet banking but mine never has anything there. Including the last offer I got emailed from them.

Also check here and make sure that you have these checked:

  • Nothing.. hopefully still in the mail..

  • never got any offer from westpac.

  • Thought I got a good deal at $10/week cashback. Nonetheless, can I purchase gift cards online using this deal?

  • Will this work with samsung pay etc? Or do we have to use the physical card?

  • Not for me

    • +4

Just buy a $50 gift card each week for future/gradual use. Rather than let it go to waste.

      • Oh yeah, when I'm in town next I'll see what fee free giftcards are avail.
Rhetorical but I assume coles will have a physical coles shopping giftcard.

        • +2

Yeah, best to buy the Coles Group gift cards from Coles. That way you can also use them at Coles Express, Officeworks, Kmart etc.

    • same here haha

  • No love here either from Westpac!

  • Don't have this, but I have a $30.00 cashback on $100 energy bill payment ..

  • Got $10 cashback with $50 spend per week

    • spend my first week in Aldi and bought groceries and a $8 wine, thanks Westpac for the free wine and $2

(background: all cases checked customer for a decade)

  • No love for Westpac CC :(

I never get any offer from Westpac. Been with them for over 5 yrs now

  • +1

I received a similar offer in past (a few months ago), and spent the weekly amounts using an eligible card, at eligible stores, carefully ticking all the boxes, however, never received any cash back from Westpac.
Received the same offer again today, will see if it works this time.

    • +1

sounds like you have a case to raise a complaint

      • +1

Not worth my time that I will have to waste with them over the phone.

    • I got the full $80 last time.

      • How did you get $80 when it was capped at $50? 🤔

        • $20 x 4 weeks?

  • +2

Only have 3 months free or $15 voucher with Amazon prime. Only decent thing :)

  • Ah, only have a credit card and no offer there.

  • I didn't get this offer also :(

  • No luck

  • I got it, pretty good deal

  • Just got the email.

  • Got $10 p/w, decent

  • I wonder if buying woolworth e-gift cards count as shopping at Woolworth.

    • Yeah that would be the best way to do it, so you could get the gift cards discounted then just use them to your normal shopping. Similar to using 'grocery' gift cards to buy discounted woolworths gift cards from their portal. It's just we won't know for sure that it will work, might be too risky.

    NOT TARGETED :[

    • and already checkmarked all 6 in marketing

    • " you have no offers to display at this time"

      • i never get any in "offers"
thought that was reserved for credit cardholders?

  • Didn't receive it :(

  • +1

Got on my partner’s card. Nothing on my card. We hold debit card only.

    • is it in rewards or offers tab ?

      • +1

        Rewards tab.

  • Not bad. Targeted on joint account for each card.

    • +1

      Same here!

"If your Westpac Debit Mastercard is linked to a Joint Account and the other account holder also receives the Offer, you are both eligible for the Offer, individually."

So we can double up on the offer?

      • If you get the individual emails.

  • Yes Westpac came good for me :)

  • Dammit, cut up my debit card when I got the credit card as I only got it to cycle.

  • What's the best way to use this aside from buying groceries. Don't need that much right now

    • +2

$50 gift card each week in the store you shop at most, then use it later/over time.

      See here.

  • I didn't get this deal either and I have all my communications ticked.
I got one recently that was pay your eligible energy bill and get $30 which I was successful with but that is the only one I have ever had for 5 years with Westpac.

  • +1

Got email but for $10 cashback per spend

  • I didn't get any emails but when I opened my app I can see a starred banner for Get $10 cashbank when you spend on groceries with a "Find out more" button to click. I assume that makes me eligible for this deal.

  • Nothing on my Westpac debit card too

  • Got it as Spend 50 and get 10 back. Thanks op.

  • +3

Westpac customer for only several months with $0 in account currently.
Got the $10 spend offer - from other experiences, seems no love for being loyal.

Just got off the chat with Westpac customer service representative who confirmed any Gift Card Purchases are eligible.

    "Westpac Representative Says
Yes, that's correct! It must be a minimum of $50 spend of eligible purchases (including purchasing Gift Cards), from one of the eligible retailers, in a single-transaction using your Debit MasterCard to pay.

    My message
Yes thanks for confirming. Includes all types of Gift Cards at Coles and Woolworths? No Gift Card Purchases are excluded from the eligible Spend?

    Westpac Representative Says
That's correct! Any Gift Card would be considered an eligible purchase. "

    • doing gods work. Thanks for the confirmation.

  • Will partial payment work ? e.g. $50 Westpac card + $10 Coles giftcard in one transaction

    • Yes, as long as the spend at the supermarket on your Westpac card is $50+, what else you do at the supermarket doesn't matter.

  • +1

I also confirmed with westpac chat that you can use apple pay with the debit card attached. They confirmed i can buy anything in store - groceries, gift cards etc.

  • How about top up Opal?

    • should be fine

  • Very generous offer from Westpac.

Commbank has something similar but offering $25 for 10 pay-wave transactions (in a month).

Needles to say: money for nothing so go for it if invited.

  • Stack with Targeted Offer from Coles Flybuy

In case anyone else was unaware - When you insert the card for use on the EFTPOS network the Everyday Choice account is linked to the cheque (CHQ) option. I tried inserting the card at Aldi yesterday to avoid the tap and go surcharge but kept getting a "Do Not Honour" error when selecting the Savings option.

  • I only just found out that my partner received the $50/$10 offer, but we've already done the big grocery shop for this week. Would we still get cashback for weeks 2 to 4 if we skipped week 1?

    • +1

      Yes :)

      • You were right. We skipped week 1, did week 2, and the $10 "Your Wespac reward Rebate" appeared yesterday alongside the settled purchase transaction.

  • Spent $50 today (Sunday) but the transaction date is showing as tomorrow (Monday) :/

    • I'd hold onto your eligible transaction receipts and see what happens after the payouts are made. Unless the Terms and Conditions OP has copy-pasted aren't the full T&Cs I can't seen anything in the description about the transaction needing to be settled or processed by the merchant/bank.

    • Hmm yeah I even purchased Saturday morning (8/7) but the same thing happened:

      Transaction date 10 Jul 2023

      Hopefully it sorts itself out.

    • Yep my purchase was made on the 7th and they bumped it to the 10th…

      • Both Westpac and HSBC perform these type of BS transaction reordering with no explanation as to why.

    • Donno what day I spent but my accnt shows the 10th and I've recieved the cashback on the 12th.

    • For anyone else in the same boat don't worry, got cashback for both week 1 and 2. Looks like they have a separate tracking system for cashback.

  • +5

    $20 received!

Description DEBIT CARD REFUND Your Westpac reward Rebate AUS
    Transaction date 12 Jul 2023
    Amount $20.00

    • Now I can feed that $20 for this week's purchase.
Didn't expect the refund to be provided so quickly.

      • does this weeks cashback on the 12th confirm it was from Week 1 offer (i.e., it's based on purchase date, not the settled date)

        • +2

I made my purchase on Saturday 8 July and it posted as Monday 10 July. Cashback on 12 July before I'd done my second purchase so it had to be for Week 1.

          • @daanish: Only if you've made 2 Transactions Posted/Settled in the same Week AND receive the 2xCashback -otherwise can't be certain.

So I wanted to confirm this.
After my online chat with Westpac Rep, the following was confirmed:

            1) system will use Posted/Settled Date NOT Purchase Date (so my Purchase Date 7 July Settled Date 10 July will count in Week 2 not Week 1)

            2) Gift Card purchases (BTW previously was confirmed eligible by 2 separate Reps) may/may not be eligible -but most likely not eligible. T&C are unclear but the "Specialist Team" who handle the Promo don't think Gift Cards are eligible.

I'm not sure for those who received the Cashback in 2 days from Posted/Settled Date, whether your Spend was Groceries or Gift Card?
My 7 July purchase was an online Gift Card, cashback not received as @15 July (the Rep says it could be a delay or GC not eligible). Unlike previous chat confirmations with 2 separate Reps, this 3rd Rep says they actually contacted the Specialist Promo team to confirm & advices against buying GC (as most likely not eligible).

So I won't be buying further GC NOR will I spend =>$50 if Posted/Settled Date of my Transaction is pushed out to the following Week.
The one GC I have purchased I can get escalated only after 45 days (if cashback not received by then) only because the 2 previous Rep placed notes on my Account of the incorrect information they had provided me(+ I took screenshots of transcript).

            Transcript below FYI:

            "Westpac Representative Says
I have now finished speaking with the specialists and there's a couple of things I do want to mention.
So it would be the posting date that confirms when the transaction is eligible for. As your transaction was posted for 10th July, this would fall under week 2.

            Westpac Representative Says
We have taken an extensive look and it seems as though you may not be eligible for this purchase of the gift card as the purchase is not related to the groceries stores listed. Furthermore, the value of the card bought could be used outside the listed merchants. As the offer was made to drive the Westpac debit card to be used to pay for your Grocery spend directly."

            • @NDIB: Have those specialists / reps read this part of the T&Cs?

Transactions must be cleared. Pending transactions made during the Offer Period that are not cleared 14 days post each Qualifying Week will not be eligible. If your Westpac Debit Mastercard is linked to a Joint Account and the other account holder also receives the Offer, you are both eligible for the Offer, individually.

Those reps don't seem to know what they are talking about.

How would Westpac know whether you have purchased baby food or a $50 GC + some carrots???
All they see is the final transaction amount, merchant details + MCC.

How on earth are you (an average customer) going to figure out when a transaction will settle, and plan your shops well in advance?

              • @DoctorCalculon: Agreed! Most reps give out incorrect information. (From my experiences)

Correct - with "in-store" purchases, the system can't distinguish whether GC or Groceries. So most likely GC purchased in-store are eligible.(or loophole by-passing the system to reject)

However, I purchased my GC online (which is only available through the specific Woolworths GC website. GC can't be purchased through the general Woolworths website together with Groceries). So the system "may" have been setup to reject all GC from online GC website. Hence why past 5 days from Posted 10July, my cashback has not been received (rejected possibly, unlike those who received cashback in 2 days due to meeting the system criteria? ie. in-store purchases OR online non-GC purchases)

Basically, buy GC "online" at your own risk. As no Rep knows for sure.

Also, warning about the Posted/Settled Date used instead of Purchase Date - this "seems" to be confirmed but who knows!

  • Is anyone else finding that even if you use EFTPOS CHQ (*) mode (in Mobile Wallet), the transaction still does not settle immediately within your Westpac account?

I will be using my physical card (inserting card + PIN / no tap) next time I am shopping at ALDI to see if that makes any difference.

I have seen immediate settlement of transactions from all other banks when using EFTPOS.

(*) Says so in the receipt.

    • I used the physical card to Insert + PIN at Aldi and had the same delayed settlement. I purchased on Saturday and it didn't settle until the Monday.

      • Thanks for sharing the info!
Do you get charged a card fee at Aldi?

        • No surcharge for EFTPOS transactions at ALDI (even if you tap using your mobile wallet).

          • @DoctorCalculon: Thanks for the quick response!

When receiving the Westpac Debit MasterCard, I was told to select "Credit" instead of "Savings" for ATM withdrawals.

So for Aldi purchases, you can select "Savings" for EFTPOS therefore no surcharge? As I would have thought selecting "Credit" incurs surcharge?

            • +1

@NDIB: With a physical debit card at Aldi:

Tap = Uses Mastercard network so surcharge applies.

Insert, Credit= Uses Mastercard so surcharge applies.

Insert, Cheque = money comes out of the Everyday Choice account using the EFTPOS network. No surcharge applies.

Insert, Savings: No account linked. Do not honour error. If you have additional accounts, they might be linked to the Savings option but I don't.

              • @daanish: Awesome 👍 Thanks for the very detailed clear information.
My parents always do the shopping at Aldi with Cash.

So trick is "Insert" + "Cheque".
                Helps!

              • +1

@daanish: Tap with Westpac Everyday Debt has no surcharge since a month ago. It defaults like to a SAV transactions. EFTPOS logo apparent on card will incur no surcharge. Test on a small item and tap and check receipt for your card. It similiar to certain VISA card on mobile where you can toggle the transaction type i.e my ubank card allows me to opt for EFTPOS sav in my Applepay.
