Congrats to those that grabbed the last few Sony WH1000XM5B for $310. Great Price

    • +5

I was one of those. Would have posted if it wasn't low quantity.

      • me 2. only 3 left when I checked out.

    • Damn! Was too slow!

    • I am confused, it still shows $310 for me?

  • Also available in white

    • Sony called it Silver. Link is up top ^. 🙂

  • Is ANC and Microphone on Sony or Bose better? Which model?

I mainly use it for Teams calls and ANC to block out open office noice.

Can the ANC be activated without needing to play music?

    • -2

Yes, ANC can be activated at any time. I don't know of any headphones that don't let you.

I still don't recommend these headphones as they're very uncomfortable and the touch controls suck..

      • +2

Thanks. Is Bose (which model) more comfortable for wearing long hours to block open office noise?

        • +1

I can talk on Bose 700's. Noise cancelling can be turned on without music. Xm4s supposedly have slightly better NC and much better battery life (almost double the Bose). Bose has slightly better mic and ear airflow (helps when wearing it for many hrs) . I found Bose touch controls to be perfectly fine. If you want something smaller but still having NC, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro or Airpods are perfectly fine for office use and have better airflow. I mention airflow a lot because on a hot summer day you really feel it, but right now in winter it's not a problem.

          • @Ibz: Thanks. With ANC-only without music, can Galaxy Buds 2 Pro or other headphones block completely surrounding open office noise?

            • +1

@Bargain Fighter: No, it'll block most of the lower frequencies but you'll still be able to hear voices to an extent (tbf this is the case with most if not all ANC earbuds/headphones)

Super deal! I bought the QC SE when on sale prior however have tested these and the ANC is noticeably better across the frequency range.

Happy with new headphones but for those looking at the Sony it’s a great deal at that price refurbished.

  • For those wondering,

    "Manufacturer refurbished" or
"seconds" product, may have cosmetic marks/scratches, damaged packing, and have minor, non-essential accessories missing.
The product has been checked by Sony technicians and assessed as in working order.

You may be lucky and get a flawless refurbished one

I got in a similar previous deal. Mine was absolutely brand new. And the headphones are superb. By default you may find the sound underwhelming. But set the equaliser to bright and bass to +7 and you are set. Most comfortable headphones I used.

For me , my ears become hot after wearing for sometime , is it normal?

    • Normally they are brand new. Comes with 1 year warranty anyway if anything goes wrong.

  • Does anyone know if they have seconds for the Silver WH1000XM5s?

  • +1

Found these very uncomfortable and had to sell them. Felt like a clamp pressing my ears against my head. Made my ears hot too. Also the touch controls on these are abysmal, you'll redo actions two or three times trying to get them to work. Sound quality was fantastic but the sound quality of headphones you don't wear because they're so uncomfortable is zero.

    • I had same experience, ears become hot after using for some time , sound quality is good though

      • It was really annoying. Every minute or so I'd have to pull them off each side of my head so my ears could breathe. Bad design.

To expand on what I was saying, the height of the padding isn't enough, i.e. the ear hole isn't deep enough, so the speaker bit presses against your ear and it's quite annoying.

        • +4

Not suitable for you doesn't mean it's a bad designed product. The sales over these headphones would beg to differ.

          • @Sean8802: If you (profanity) up something as basic as simple comfort on headphones, you designed a bad product. It's not hard to get right. It's not rocket science. Many other people say these headphones are uncomfortable

            • @MrMcHairyHead: You understand that there is a wide variety of head shapes and sizes right?

I've owned both the XM4 and now the XM5 and I wear these literally every day for 3-4 hours a day and I've never had a problem with discomfort.

Might just be that your head shape is not suited to these particular headphones, which is fine. It's not indicative of "bad designing" as the metrics measured are so variable.

        • You need to try boss style

    • I’ve had a pair of all these Sony up to XM4s, yet to try the XM5s.
They are super comfortable for me.
I have a massive round noggin too.

Headphones in general are very subjective, everyone’s experiences and use cases are different.

My wife also loves hers and uses them for gym on the days she doesn’t have any lying down exercises.

I only use mine for travel, the NC is awesome.

The mics for calls are horrible on all the XM’s I’ve owned. I wonder if the 5’s are any better.

I’m not a huge fan of the SQ in comparison to my cans at home but certain use cases demand compromises.

My wife also has AirPod Pro 2’s and I have the original AirPod Pros which I use only for calls.

We both definitely favour the Sonys.

I haven’t owned any Bose since qc35 and older but I’d say they were more comfortable but had other inferior areas.

Would be keen to try the latest Bose. They were ahead of Sony in NC previously but I don’t believe that to be the case now.

  • Sold out it seems.

    • Did not take long to be Ozbargained ;-) Even the less popular in-ear WF1000XM4B's sold out quickly.

    Bought 20 thx op

  • Refurb they just wash the ear sponge much like refurbished dentures they just run it in the dishwasher.

Got mine today. Exterior label stated it was a "seconds". Headphones looked and felt brand new. Packaging had some minor cosmetic damage but the cans performed perfectly.
