I travel a lot and I still don't do this. Hope they close this loophole down.

          • -2

@Phlume: Downvote me all you want, it's a rort of the system and I hope they strongly enact new enforcement so people don't abuse the TRS.

            • @Phlume: If people can bring back $1000aud of goods from overseas without paying tax on it, why should we not be able to bring back 1000aud that we claimed GST on? Otherwise I'll just buy it tax-free overseas.

              • -2

@Make it so: Here we go with the whataboutism. Then buy it overseas then? Don't enjoy Australian consumer protection on your purchases or local support. If you purchase items with the intent of using the TRS as a faux-discount and not declaring it on your return, you're no different from a tax dodger and I hope they throw the book at you.

                • @Phlume: You can bring it back without paying back the tax if it doesn't exceed the passenger concession allowance, which this phone doesn't.

Perhaps read the book you are preaching about from your moral high horse

                  • @Make it so: What are you on about? I work with people in the ATO, I know how it works… I was making a comment on runamuck's comment saying you need to declare it on return to Australia so you can repay the TRS refunded to you.

                    • @Phlume: You replied to me. You said saying people dodge tax by not paying back the TRS on return to Australia. This is incorrect - they are not required to pay back tax if it is less than the passenger concession allowance. It is not a rort of a faux discount - it is law. I suggest the people you work with read up about it - I provided the link for your convenience.

                      • @Make it so: I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but I did reply to runamuck comment on declaring during return. I am fully aware of the TRS threshold per person (and by extension to a travel group) and the requirements to receive the TRS as advised by the ATO, they have not given me inaccurate information.

I have no faults with those following the laws as you say, only to those who purposefully avoid paying their fair GST contribution and using the TRS as a loophole method to acquire a discount on goods as previously discussed here.

I do eagerly await a change to the current TRS and enforce stricter rules for travellers returning with refunded items not meeting the stated threshold.

      • 3 days before I fly! Will wait till next week then cancel

        • +1

Imagine if everyone cancelled just as they got their supply. Would be a huge sale to offload after the 8 comes out.

  • Missed this deal of the century! Now waiting for either the Pixel 7 256GB or Samsung S23 to be at this pricepoint again…..

  • +9

    After talking to their reps.
It turns out that there has been two issues with their latest sales - Phones and buds.

    1. Their website didn't update stock as quickly as they wanted so they sold more than they could handle - putting more on backorder

    2. Google had a sale soon afterwards. Google is prioritising their sales ahead of telstra. So telstra has to wait until Google fullfills their orders before Telstra will get theirs.

Nothing Telstra can do and the Backorder delivery can't be confirmed so most likely will be extended further.

Summary - Customers get screwed 😊

    • +1

      Merry Christmas then

    • +1

Thanks for that update. Same old story, isn't it? We can build A.I. that can write so well it can't be differentiated from humans, but we can't build a system that can count stock 😁

  • Glad i cancelled the 128 black from telstra and Have been enjoying the pixel 7 128 in beautiful lime colour within 3 days ordering direct from google for $599. Never ever again dealing with telstra.

  • Went to cancel my Snow 128GB as I got tired of waiting, but my order is now showing as:

    Hardware delivery: In progress
Expected delivery: Friday, 08 Sep 2023

Haven't received any dispatch notification yet, but finally some progress.

  • +1

Looked at telstra website. Now showing - instock for the 128 & 256 obsidian.

    • Lol more sales maybe

      • Yes it's coming up discounted too, but not as good as this price. Lol

    • +2

Says in stock but under says
'This device is extremely popular. Place an order today and we'll deliver it for free when it's back in stock. We expect delivery in 4 weeks or more.'

Telstra has a different definition of 'In Stock'. Alan Joyce must have just taken a job there. /s

      • Just checked now for the 256GB model and it says 'Available now with free delivery'. So I wonder if this is true or not and will we get it in 3 days time? I doubt it.

        • I just got a dispatched notice, expected delivery tomorrow. :)

  • +4

Update - rep via chat assured me that delivery will be made in 5 to 8 days. Now mine is showing in progress and delivery is for September 8th this Friyay! Tax Invoice will be updated when delivery is made. All the best fellow pixel 7 256G obsidian buyers 😆

  • +1

Both my 256gb showing as backorder still.

    • Same

      • +1

Mine is the same but online rep said it was going to be here this week. I would recommend making a complaint to ensure your phone is on the list to be sent out before these newly purchased ones are.

        • Yes just finished on chat and confirmed that stock has already been allocated for my order :)

        • Am on chat. Gave order number. They say they'll check. They ask for member number (I'm in the app!). Then the say they'll check. Then they ask which colour and storage. Told them. They say they'll check.

By the time I get confirmation, Pixel 9 will be out.

          • +1

@Make it so: When I talked to chat they told me not to worry, I wouldn't be charged until the phone came in stock. I bought outright……

            • @Tommohalby: I don't care when they charge me - I want the phone.

They eventually just told me the same:

Thanks for the patience. Upon checking with the device and there’s a high demand for this device and it’s currently on back order. So by 19/9/2023 he new stock will be available. You’ll receive a confirmation email or SMS once your device is on its way.
I’m really sorry about this, I understand this is taking longer than expected.

Once this is done the order will be delivered to you back without any delay.

So I asked why it shows in stock for new orders. Poor guy apologised and said he did his best.

              • +2

@Make it so: I feel sorry for the support team. I always make sure I say they are doing a great job and appreciate their work. Unfortunately I need to vent my frustrations and they are the Avenue we must go by.
I recommend putting in a complaint so you get a complaint staff member to contact you directly. They are next to useless but at least you have a direct line to someone. Francis is my poor guy for the buds and phone sale. He admitted he can't do anything haha

Ordered 4th August late morning pixel 7 128gb white, finally changed from back order to in progress and to be delivered by 8th Sept.

    • how do you check the progress?

      • +1

In the email they sent for the order titled 'Rodo, here are the details and next steps for your order' there is a link to 'Track my order'. Click on that, login to your account and under Services the order should show up.

      • +2

Telstra app, go to services tab > click on "track your order"

Sorry, your Telstra hardware delivery is delayed due to stock levels. We’ll let you know when it’s on its way.

    • I ordered 256gb model and finally coming. Wish telstra would have had better communication. I doubt a 256gb model will be this price again for a while.

Just received a text saying that my 256gb has been dispatched - finally!

  • +2

Just got the dispatch notification for my 256gb. Hope everyone else is getting theirs soon too.

  • +1

Haven't got a dispatch notice yet (256GB) - this is like the fiasco with Qantas selling plane ticket for flights that don't exist.

  • +1

Just got the dispatch notification for my 256gb. Ordered on 4 August approx 1pm.

    • +1

Pretty much exactly the same here! Finally, phew

  • +1

Just got dispatch notification for 256gb at 12pm. Ordered 4 Aug 5pm.
When I check this morning, it is still show "waiting for stock". Hopefully everyone gets theirs too.

      • +1

  • +1

Ordered on 4th at 10am ish, 128GB Snow, no email or sms notification but the online order status has changed to dispatched and expected delivery Sat, 9th but Startrack estimates it tomorrow Thu, 7th. Finally!

  • +1

Received delivery of my 256GB this morning - 0% charge so I am charging it now. Soon have to go through the pain of setting up a new phone.

    • With all the 2FA configurations we need to be able to get through a normal day, that's even more fun than before!

      Received mine as well.

      • I use 2FAS which is stored in the cloud and isn't tied to a specific device.

        • Interesting. Does that reduce security at all? I thought part of the point of 2FA is that it depends on "something you have" in addition to "something you know".

    • Hopefully this video helps

    • Me too found that real poor, thought I actually got a DOA one!

Hope the Li-Ion battery isn't stuffed because of it!

      • Same, hope so too. Great way to kill a battery. . Because of the comments I just plugged it in without switching it on. It took a while for the screen to show anything at all, which I took to mean it was so flat that it had to get some basic charge to operate.

  • Mine arrived this morning.

  • My 256gb was just delivered finally!

  • Just received my Pixel 7. It's manufactured a year ago and it comes with a 0% charge.

  • +1

Got my 256Gb as well. Manufactured in September 2022! Must be stored in China somewhere and only shipped when there is a huge order from Telstra.

  • +1

Anyone with their new phone, are you able to turn on VoLTE? Can't seem to find 4G calling/VoLTE switch under Network & Internet settings. I'm with Boost (Telstra).

    • Interesting - I got my phone on Thursday and only noticed today that it isn't showing up VoLTE (Optus network). There was an update yesterday and I'm not sure if it was on before this.

      • +2

Managed to find answer from Whirlpool forum. Apparently, this is normal for Pixel (no VoLTE icon, even though it is enabled by default). Coming from Samsung which always shows VoLTE icon on the status bar makes me wonder if something wrong. As long as it doesn't switch to 3G when on a voice call implies VoLTE is active and working.

        • Thanks for the update. I came from a Xiaomi which had the VoLTE icon.

        • My wife has a pixel 7 on Boost. Last I checked, I could see the volte setting somewhere but it was force-enabled. It seems to be working (?).

  • +1

that's the real pain of ordering online and be in limbo about when are you going to get the order deliver.
I am glad I went to Optus for price match and got it straight away without any hassle. Thanks to OZbargainers for sharing their experience here.

  • Comments reopened by request.

  • If anyone is still waiting for stock…….I finally got my phone (256) but never got my earbuds (from another deal).
In the end telstra paid me $150 and gave me the $149 refund so I could use that money to purchase the buds at JB hi-fi.

Might be worth a try if anyone still waiting for their phone…..

    • Still waiting for the buds. I ordered Fog colour which I think have been discontinued so I asked for the Charcoal colour which are in stock. Raise this with them many times but they still haven't come through despite assurances is would be sorted out. I have now put a complaint in with the ACCC and TIO

      • Same issue I had. Just demand them pay you out to buy at JB hi-fi like they did your me. Outrageous you are still waiting……
The excuses they gave me were Google didn't supply as they took priority when they needed more and their ordering system doesn't update quickly.
Updated very quickly when they got new phones in stock - quicker updating to get more sales then it was to notify me they had my phone.
        Good luck

  • On the off chance does anyone have photos of Telstra in store displays at the time of this deal? 28 Degrees are being a bit painful on a price match request, and hoping for a backup if the WA store shots shared by troyboyfall through. My messages are open and thanks in advance!
