    256gb is also $564.50

    • thanks, got 2 of them in black

  • +3

    Wow. What a bargain!

    • +2

The Google store is about to have a 24hr sale for their 25th Anniversary in 3 days - this might be a preview of what to expect.

      • Wouldn't be cheaper than $499 but possibly half price. Can't have Telstra getting all the business. Perhaps the 7 pro for half price? Was never keen in it but some like the larger screen and telephoto.

        • +1

I got the 7 pro at launch and just love it. Perfect phone so far but I do like large phones. Smooth as butter, and I don't think I've ever had the battery drop under 30%

          • @Cunning Linguist: Yes both are good choices depending on what form factor you like (and the 7 is a bit better bang got buck).

        • why do you think it would not be? ty

  • +3

    Will JB price this?

    • +1

      Yes I did it before

    • -8

      Nope below cost price.

    • +4

There's a live chat on the JB website. Just send them the link and they will send you a link matching the price. They've matched every price I've requested. I've never had one turned down for being 'below cost' or for any other reason.

      • +7

I've never had success with chat matching a Telstra deal where you need a Telstra ID.

        • +21

How about you try? That was the point of my comment - not to say that they would definitely price match, but to explain how easy it is for you to find out if they will match or not, by doing it online. You don't even need to go into a store.

            • +2

              @michael9865:

They said no to me on the other telstra deal, so if your claiming they say yes to you

With things like this it can often depend on who you speak to. Maybe try again and see how it goes.

        • +1

JB live chat opens at 9am so I'm going to give it a go then

          • +2

@Timbo94: Yeah gonna do the same for this deal but expect them to say no like last time.
If they say yes will have my 4th backup phone😂

            • +3

@michael9865: Outright no on the live chat! Very quick response so I dare say they may be getting inundated with similar requests!

              • +8

@Timbo94: Unfortunately the Telstra outright deals require an active Telstra ID to access these special pricings. Which means we are unable to match I'm afraid. - Jb online chat

              • +6

@Timbo94: Yep, the response was: Unfortunately the Telstra outright deals require an active Telstra ID to access these special pricings. Which means we are unable to match I'm afraid.

                • +1

                  @prodnus: Identical to my response

                  • +1

@Timbo94: ya'll should get a boost sim and buy it outright anyway!
someone else picked one up Officeworks (last page)
                    i'd try that first

                    • +2

@G-rig: Yeah can get it from telstra but have a bunch if jb gift cards to use😂

                    • @G-rig: So if you're with Boost, you can get this deal?

                      • @Ice009: Already got one last year but tested loging into the Telstra site with boost ID and it works.

                • +1

@prodnus: yeah , they know…. got the same spiel

The JB Hifi person pointed me to this sentence in the terms

If you already have a service with us, you can buy outright without adding a plan.

                  • @maddoglee: Thanks guys. I am with Boost, but on pre-paid, so I assume that still counts? Doesn't have to be a postpaid service, does it?

      • +1

        JB refused to price match

    • +3

Just spoke with them via online chat
They said no, it's an exclusive deal for Telstra customers only.

    • +2

They did for me, no dramas.

      • Downvoted for getting a price match… classy.

  • +1

Damn regret buying it from JB now

    • +1

Was it within the last month or so? If so, you can ask for a price match guarantee

      • It was from the gift card deal, dunno if they'll price match or not

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790762

        • I want to know as well

        • +1

Mostly jb hifi doesn't price match Telstra. If got lucky to get through, then they should do the price match as it is done on the price sold (on the receipt). Give a try & see how it goes, nothing to lose :)

        • Have you managed to return it?

    • +1

Same here! Though $799 with $250 in gift cards was already a ripper deal

  • +2

How's the battery on these phones? Thinking of buying it for someone who's always on the phone.

    • +29

Average. Don't get these for long battery life.

      • +1

It's probably just Chrome sucking up all the power.

        • +16

Firefox + uBlockOrigin is the way to go :)

        • +3

No, it's an inefficient SOC. Terrible battery life for the size of the battery and phone.

      • +7

        Can't beat Pixel 5

        • +2

I had that but the pixel 7 is just as good overall and along the same lines

Wasn't interested in the pro, too big.

          • @G-rig: What is your battery life on the 7? My 6pro goes flat before I leave work…

            • +3

@Zegga: I had battery issues on my P7. I turned off the setting "Identify songs playing nearby" and now getting more than a day with one charge. I still prefer the P5 for its size and physical fingerprint scanner.

            • @Zegga: It's good, just look up the tips and tricks etc.
The 6 had issues and I happily skipped that version

Depends on your usage of course so it's a bit pointless to try and say.
              100% at 6am, sitting on 73% at 1.30pm
It was good in the days of the custom roms and trying to get a dead flat standby battery line
or 1% loss over night but then it would plummit as soon as you use the phone.

I sitll get 24h at least.

      • Tks for heads up

    • +6

Its not bad though in any sense. Unless they wanna get an iPhone Pro max or whatever it is then battery is pretty comparable to other devices.

    • -7

Not good from experience, within less than a year would blow up your battery, Tensor is not the most efficient chipset for now at least.

      • +5

@darzigma what were you doing with it lol.
Have had mine for 10 months and it hasn't blown up.

Maybe you're think of the Samsung note 7.

The battery is great, being a smaller phone unlike the large screens that eat the battery.

Adaptive charging overnight is great. Keeps the battery health good (people believe in keeping charge over 15% and under 85% but personally once it's 100 I'd take it straight off).

        • +1

The battery is great, being a smaller phone unlike the large screens that eat the battery.

The battery life on these is not great. Pretty much every single review mentions the average to bad battery life. The Tensor SOC in them is just inefficient.

It's also not a "smaller" phone - it's basically the size of an S23+ and only slightly smaller than an iPhone 14 Pro Max: https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Google-Pixel-7,Samsun…

    • +1

Great, as good as you can expect.
Most people on their phones too much.
These days you should be prepared to charge every day cut but can last two days of not using etc.

      Ripper deal.

    • +4

Better than the S21 it replaced in my case. On par with higher end smartphones, a day of solid use, charge overnight. Great phone, haven't looked back.

    • +2

Fine. I have it off charge from 2am and don't put it on charge again till 6pm. People whining about it are usually the ones who spend way to much time on it

    • +2

Install Graphene OS and the battery life is better.

    • +6

5G in poor reception areas is still a battery eater. I keep "preferred network type" on 4G and it usually lasts a full day with varied use. Under $500 for a P7 - now that's a bargain

      • -1

You don't miss out on anything on any phone by turning off 5G, unless you need excess battery drain.

        • You miss out on 5G speeds and better reception at big events.

          • +1

@MrFunSocks: Yeah just leave it on auto and use wifi wherever you can. Some people live on their phones.

good that the boost Sims offer 5g now, great bang for buck.

  • +1

    That's nuts

  • -6

    $1249 for the 512gb pixel 7 pro

  • how to get Telstra ID?
    buy a prepaid SIM?

    • +4

      $2 at Aus post

      • +1

Do you just activate it or do you also need to buy some sort of plan on top?

        • +3

You can just activate it and never put it in a phone afaik.

        • There is an option to not add a plan when you activate it, but it's kind of hidden in the corner and you need to dismiss 3 warnings.

    • +3

Or if you are on boost, you already have an Id.

      • I recently churned away from Boost. Any chance I can still find/use the old ID?

        • you probably still can. My telstra id worked without active telstra acount

        • Try get the Telstra app and go through the prompts there. From memory that's how I got my id.

  • +3

I think this 1/2 price is the best of all pixel phone deals so far except for the trade-in ones?

  • +3

BAH just bought the 7a for $599

    • How does this compare to the 7a?

      • Very, very similar.

        • The a model has always been a cheaper alternative to the pixel.

They are fairly similar which is why I heard they will be scrapping the a models next time with the pixel 8, as they aren't much cheaper.

      • It’s better than the 7A

      • +1

        The 7 is sans A

  • +5

Tempted to upgrade from pixel 5 but no unlimited photo backup :(

    • +3

This is a nice deal, but I'm trying to hold out for the Google 8!

    • +1

      Did pixel 5 have unlimited?
Everyone seems to go on about the pixel 1 for that.
Still never come close to filling up 100gb paid storage.

      • +6

Pixel 1 has unlimited at original quality. Pixel 2-5 has unlimited at HD quality (1080p). It really depends how many photos/videos you take. If you have dogs and children I find it rather easy to take a million photos

        • Oh right thanks for that - forgot the exact details.

I've got my google photos set on high full quality so it seems ok, most people would fill up the free 15GB with gmail, drive and photos so think most would buy additional storage anyway (turkey hack is tempting but don't want to risk my main account).

          • @G-rig: Might want to check there because the 2 options are "high" and "original". High quality = compressed.

        • +1

I think that was from 1-3. I remember showing that my pixel 4a didn't have it

        • If you have dogs and children I find it rather easy to take a million photos

Wow. How long does it take you to review them?!

    • +2

That's the only reason I'm not upgrading from Pixel 5. I broke my Pixel 5 last month and just bought another Pixel 5. I do have an Pixel 1 for original photo backup but cant be fussed. Like the convenience of high quality unlimited on P5. I wish, just wish Google brings it back in one of their newer Pixel devices.

      • +2

Plug your P1 into a charger with Syncthing running, then run it on whatever your daily phone is and Sync back to the P1. Has been working flawlessley for me for a few years now.

        • Will do that with my pixel 5 when time comes to upgrade. I don't think pixel 1 battery will last long enough and there will be no replacements. Keeping it on charger just to upload not ideal

    • +1

look up how to set up SyncThing on your phones. It's an app that automatically transfers photos from your new pixel to old pixel and backs up when on the same wifi. I have a Pixel 7 Pro synced with my old Pixel 4.

    • +1

I'm not upgrading for that reason alone. We can hold til pixel 8

  • +4

Great price. Can't really get much better value for money than this.

  • +2

Will this be locked to telstra? Will this work outside australia?
