Optus seem open to price matching this, but they're running me in circles and it's just reminding me how truly crap this company is. If only Telstra plans didnt start at $60 with CAPPED internet….

EDIT: It's pretty amusing though. AITA or is this just terrible service?

    You at 9:53, Aug 4:
Hi, just wondering if you can price match the following deal?
    Google Pixel 7 128GB $499.50

    Cody at 9:55, Aug 4:
I can certainly assist you with your enquiry today, to help me tailor the right solution for you, I'm going to ask you a few questions.
Firstly, do you have any services currently with Optus so I can bring up your account?

    Cody at 10:18, Aug 4:
May I know the colour you are interested in?

    You at 10:29, Aug 4:
Doesnt really matter, but lets go with obsidian

    Cody at 10:29, Aug 4:
    Choose your capacity:128GB

    You at 10:29, Aug 4:

    Cody at 10:30, Aug 4:
All of our plans are now month to month & we're giving you the flexibility to pay off your device on three different payment plan options. You can choose to pay it off over 12, 24 or 36months, which we will add to your chosen plan. Which payment would you like to organise today?

    You at 10:31, Aug 4:
I would like to pay for the phone outright and remain on my existing plan, if possible?

    Cody at 10:31, Aug 4:
Sure I will help you with that.

    You at 10:45, Aug 4:
    Cool thanks

    Cody at 10:45, Aug 4:
Great, let's get started with your order. In case the conversation drops out is there a contact number that I can give you a call back on?

    You at 10:46, Aug 4:

    You at 10:46, Aug 4:
Not ready to start an order yet, just checking if you can match that outright price

    Cody at 10:46, Aug 4:
Offer is for a limited time period.

    You at 10:54, Aug 4:
Sorry, im not sure what the offer is yet?

    You at 10:56, Aug 4:
So is that a yes, you can match the outright price?

    Cody at 11:00, Aug 4:
We can price match Google Pixel 7 | Obsidian | 256GB

    You at 11:00, Aug 4:
    but not the 128?

    Cody at 11:01, Aug 4:
We don't have the same colour in 128GB,

    You at 11:01, Aug 4:
good to know, any other colours?

    You at 11:02, Aug 4:
And while we're flopping around, whats your best outright price on the P7 Pro?

    • I enjoyed this

    • And while we're flopping around…

Got a chuckle outta me with this

    • Stuff all that just get one outright $500 is pretty good.
Personally use a Boost 365 day sim, cheap AF but got wifi at home/work.

  • Got a message from Telstra. Backordered for the obsidian 256GB. Least it's not cancelled

    • Got the same. Annoyed because I ordered within 30 mins of deal being posted. How does the queue work for this?

    • +1

I got the same text message for the Obsidian 128GB, but live chat has confirmed that my order " has been dispatched and will be on sent to your nominated address today 04/08/23. We're sorry this worries you however you can disregard the sms you've received earlier."

    • Placed the order on the obsidian 256GB and got the message:
This item is on back-order. We'll be in touch once we've dispatch your order.

Fingers crossed that Telstra will honor it.

      • +2

Just spoke with Telstra Live chat, they said ETA is looking like 7 business days for it to be shipped. Fingers crossed 🤞

        • 3-6 weeks wait now… Pixel 8 will be out by then :/

  • Just got last one at local Officeworks, they even did price beat

  • I ordered one from the rewards store about 3 hours ago and still haven't received an email confirmation. They took the reward points and charged the credit card so I assume the order went through.

    • How many points you need and how much have to pay after points redemption?

      • 2800 points and $492, I done 7100 and $480 and chose 12 months repayment at $40/month

      • It is 178,000 points for the 128gb model. I used 11,500 points + $468.

Telstra say they can see my order and it can take 4-24 hrs hours to get a confirmation mail as the back-end team need to check the details and send the order confirmation.

  • If anyone successfully price match with JBHifi please post receipt. Going by previous comments they won't, but would help with price protection as i bought this phone month or so ago.

  • +2

did the $2 sim trick, didnt work.

added a $12 prepaid service. didnt work. Apparently you need a postpaid service with them to buy a device outright.

Ended up buying it on my mums account. Only issue is she has to sign for it, so it has to be delivered to her house. Oh well. Should probably have dinner with her at some point.

Screw Telstra making life so hard to give them money.

    • +3

Oh for a second I thought Telstra is making life hard for you by forcing you to have dinner with your family :)

  • +1

Ordered and got cofirmation for the 256G. Used my Boost/Telstra account 😁 tha k you OP 🙏

  • Are people able to buy this with using the $2 Sim to get a Tesla ID?

    • yup.

        • +1

I activated a new number and put cash on it

          • @abs898: Did you recharge $12 on it?
I just bought a sim and activated, and after trying to buy the phone it says unable to process order as I don't have a service

    • I was able to buy this by getting a new $2 telstra sim and using my partner's ID to activate it (never had a telstra ID before).
For some reasons, I have 2 telstra IDs, one with active service on Boost and one without any active service on Telstra, and everytime I put in my own ID to buy the phone it came up with all sorts of errors. Live chat with customer service and they said it's because I already have an existing account with them.

      • Interesting and annoying haha.

I've been told I have to go in store to purchase it what a shame.

  • Thank you op, ordered in white

  • +1

Is it a good upgrade from S21?

    • +2

not worth it.. wait for pixel 8.

      • At least, 2 more months to go.

  • +3

Ordered using Boost, it went through! Thanks OP

    • Can u plz elaborate?

      • I had created a Telstra account using Boost mobile number with varified personal identification, so the order went in smoothly.

        • Yes. I did the same with my Boost details.

  • +1

They must be absolutely stockpiled with this phone.

    • They must have received a big delivery and have nowhere to store it all.

  • +1

Thanks Just bought off Boost, 256gb

  • So what is the cheapest Boost card you need to buy to be able to get this? I assume you need a physical card, so I'll need to find a Boost retailer.

  • Does Telstra do big deals on phones this time of year every year or is this unusual?

  • Not sure whether to buy

    • Me too. Perfectly happy with the 6a.

      • This is hard for me, too and I'm still on 4a 5G. Hard to give up on the unlimited photo uploads. Regardless this is a really nice price.

        • +1

if you get another phone , you can still put the photos on the 4g for the unlimited upload I guess?

  • +1

I'll wait until October for Pixel 8's release. By then the 7 Pro should be at a price I like 😉
Excellent price for this one though

  • +3

As much as I want to pull the trigger, something tells me the Pro will come close to this price and I'll just be annoyed.

  • looks like a good deal. i am a boost customer that hasnt got a telstra id. backed out when it looked like telstra wanted all my details. can anyone verify what PII they need apart from name and date of birth. if i can limit the databases in the (profanity) better. dont buy monero.

  • Anybody recommend a solid hardy case for the Google pixel 7, I'm assuming this doesn't come with a case or a charger

    • +2

I went with the Spigen Rugged Armour; had it on my Pixel 4a and it's been good.

      • +7

Spigen gear are my go to cases/screen protectors.
Have never gone wrong with them across many different phones.

  • Anyone else having trouble logging into the Telstra account and the 2FA? It says that it sends emails to my hotmail account but I don't receive them and then it locks my account. Very frustrating.

    • My sister has a large business with telstra and can't order as they have been screwing her around for ages saying she needs to come into the store.. she cant even get old employers name of the accounts,, the buisness has been with telstra for over 20 years with at least 20 plans on the account

      • I ended up going into a Telstra store and buying a 256 which will get delivered.

      • Has she gone to a store yet?

    • Look in junk mail

  • officworks wouldn't price match over phone

    • Bayswater Vic - wouldn't match in-store

      • Tried them too. They got an email from HO stating no one is to price match

  • Buy first or wait for Google anniversary sale 😄

  • How long do you think the wait will be on the backorder for the 256GB?

  • Hi xxxx, unfortunately your recent order of Google Pixel 7 128GB Snow is out of stock, so we've placed it on backorder.

We know you're excited to get your device and we're sorry for the delay.

Your order is important to us, so we'll give you regular weekly updates on its progress. As soon as stock arrives, we'll get it on its way to you.

    Order reference: hxxxxx

  • Price match rejected by both Jb and Officeworks…..

Anyone tried purchasing in store @ Telstra??

    • Was this a in-store or on-phone price match attempt?

      • +1

Jb on phone and in store
        Officeworks in store

    • Telstra store only had white 128GB in stock, they told me to try JB "their Telsta partner" upstairs. So I did, and got a price match on a black 256GB.
At that point the Telstra site was showing Back Order too lol

JB guy only asked that I show I'm a Telstra customer and all I did was load the Telstra app on my phone. Got lucky perhaps, but it's possible from my experience.

  • +1

128GB Snow out of stock (can't order)
128GB Obsidian showing as in stock (but apparently it will change status to backorder based on comments?)
    256GB is backorder.

  • +1

Optus Store in Bourke Street Mall matched price - apparently they have 3 more of the 256gb obsidian in stock

    • +1

Are they selling outright Optus ?

      • I bought it outright (I have an optus service, and they checked)

    • +1

Brilliant move, they have a price match policy. Did they ask for proof of your Telstra ID?

      • +1

No, but I do have an optus service, and they checked that

        • Just got them (Optus) to price match via web chat and i don't have an Optus account. But could only get the 128 G black version not the 256 which is what i wanted. Mind you I first tried calling via the 1800 # and had a stupid time waster telling me that they don't sell the device outright. This is even after quoting him Optus's 5G phone price Guarantee.
For reference the Optus 5g price match guarantee is here: https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/phones/5g-mobile

          • @stirech: i tried around 2pm today and got kicked back.. said its on backorder the 128g so can't price match

            • @cycleri3: Yes @cycleri3, I had a 75% expectation I would be told the same thing. Guess at that point you say thank you goodbye, close browser & start again.

  • +2

Had this guy at brisbane cbd officeworks argue with me that the telstra deal is on a plan. Even if you buy outright you have to be on their plan. Told him that's not the case but he wasn't having a bar of it saying telstra phone is locked and their's is unlocked. I guess you can't win an argument against an idiot who believes he is right

    • Sounds like they might be right about having to be on a plan. I'm unable to buy one with no active plan, my sister had the same issue. We tried ordering online and it said to take 3 forms of ID to a Telstra store. She tried to do that and they were going to sell her one on the spot in store, but the system wouldn't allow it because she has no active plans.

I was able to by one last month online in the $699 deal with no active plans, so it seems that something has changed.

      • +1

I dont have an active service with Telstra but can purchase via my Boost ID

        • Do you have an active Boost service?

I have no active plans at all, I cancelled the last one a few months ago

Also, did it let you go all the way through with the purchase? It appears like it's going to work for me but then at the end it says

          We need more ID

We're unable to process your order at this time.
For help placing an order, please bring the following to a Telstra store:
          Your driver's licence or passport
Two other forms of ID, such as a Medicare card, a valid credit card or birth certificate
Your proof of address (your lease agreement or purchase of land contract).
We've emailed these details to you for your reference.

          • @chromium: I do have an active boost service. As others have said you can get a $2 starter sim

            • @dji1111111: Some said that worked and others have said it didn't :)

The whole thing seems like a bit of a crapshoot

        • Same, I had no trouble purchasing with my old Telstra id where I haven't had a plan for years.

          • @Ronnnie: It worked for you today? It worked for me last month, but not today. Weird

            • @chromium: Yes it worked today.

Had to log into Telstra app first and do the 2fa though. It wouldn't let me buy until I did that.

          • @Ronnnie: I can't log into Telstra with my plan that ceased about 2 years ago. When I add the account number for it to my Telstra account it throws up an error.

    • +6

I feel sorry for the officeworks people trying to deal with ozbargainers lol.

The guy is an idiot, but I would imagine there have been at least 20 people calling each store now.

    • It's not a plan but they won't match it due to Telstra ID requirements

Anyway that store they have to deal with enough deadbeats, why even waste your energy just move on

Probably treating you like a chugger outside King George Square bus station

  • Unable to buy with the $2 sim activated with new Telstra ID account, advised to go in store to try.

    • Did you try going in store, what was the outcome?

  • +4

    Out of Stock!

Now people can go back to buying their favorite Chinese phones, which supposedly are better value and more powerful lol

    • +1

Obsidian 128GB is still showing in stock for me

      • Same.

    • Out of stock in Telstra Plus.

    • Or a fruit phone that does nothing more than this for a mere triple the price.

  • Already a flood of these on eBay added today brand new, haha that wasn't long. Obsidian Black still in stock but wouldn't be surprised if gone soon

  • +6
