  • Out of interest I was looking at the site, checked the trade in value on my wifes Pixel 5 128gb, reasonable condition, just general wear and tear.

    $25…

  • Is this worth the update from a 6a?

    • I would say, probably not. You should still be getting updates on the 6A so that would not be the issue?

    • Not a significant upgrade IMO to justify.

  • Pixel 8 out in about 8 weeks they need to move the old stock

  • Great price, but I've been using my S21 Ultra for the last 2 years which has a 6.8" screen vs 6.3" on this……think I'll wait for half off 7 Pro.

  • Got one. Black 256GB. Have boost and I guess an old login for Telstra saved that went through. Was asked to verify email address and confirm address (for delivery). Doesn't look like stores in Melb have stock which is fine, delivery is free.

    • And on back order. That's ok. not desperate and will give me time to find a good case and screen protector. Hopefully Spigen make a good one.

      • +3

        Here you go:

SPIGEN Rugged Armor Soft TPU Air Cushion Cover
(3 Pack) amFilm Compatible with Google Pixel 7 Tempered Glass Screen Protector

The good thing about the pixel 7 vs pro is the flat screen, not those annoying curved edges ;).

        • Those screen protectors don't go close to the edge.

          • @Make it so: They can't go too close as they are 'case frendly'.

I know what you mean - hard to get 100% or you may see the finest line alone the edge, but to be honest they are more than good. Still got the original one on since Oct 22.

3 for 10$ is a steal anyway, can afford to muck one up, stuff paying heaps for the 'good ones'

            • @G-rig: We use those for work phones. Good value. For my wife's phone I used this. Sits closer to the edge, but still case-friendly enough.

              • @Make it so: That's pretty cheap, still got about 4 or 5 of these but good to know.

  • +1

You need to have a service with us to buy a device outright. If you don't have a service, you can only purchase a device outright with a plan.

    • I got this message too. Any way around it? Or do I have to bite the bullet and go and get a $2 SIM?

  • +1

Crazy…I love Google phone in all specs except battery life and no Micro SD card! Anyone try Google Store price match yet?

    • +1

They don't price match with Telstra

  • +1

Does not work for me with my Telstra id, after login now it's asking to link the account. I have no active service with them anymore. Can't proceed with checkout, anyone else facing something similar?

  • -3

    This or Poco F5?

    • I´m thorn, too. I think I´ll wait and see if they do half price for Pixel 7 Pro

  • -3

I just bought one from JB online. Anyone know if JB records IMEI or serial number on the receipt? That is, can we buy this one from Telstra and return to JB with its receipt?

    • I assume if you bought it online you wouldn't have received the JB one yet. You can just return your JB one and then wait for your Telstra one?

      • -2

I have and already opened the box.

        • Not sure why you're getting negged, I want to do the same thing lol. Does JB hi-fi check iemi?

          • +3

@truffleonlydiet: Yes, recorded on its system, at least for the iPhone purchase once I requested the e-receipt and show the imei on here.

          • @truffleonlydiet: They got negged because they asked -

Anyone know if JB records IMEI or serial number on the receipt?

            Then said they -

I have and already opened the box.

So they can literally just check their receipt to see if IMEI is recorded on JB receipt but instead choose to ask here. If they have the phone, they'll have the receipt too.

            • @CodeXD: The thing is I bought it online and there is mention of it in the order confirmation nor in the tax invoice.

    • Yes, the IMEI number is on the receipt. Actually the phone I bought in JB was cheaper than Telstra, I paid with a 15% discount Ultimate Home gift card and also got a $200 gift card and a $50 coupon.

Perfect timing, the charging port on my Pixel 6 has started playing up. Thanks OP!

    • +3

Before you bin it. Try cleaning out the port with a sewing needle.

Sometimes there's fluff jammed hard in there, which you can pick out and it works perfectly again after.

      • +3

I'd say before that, try pressurised air so that you don't accidentally damage components inside

        • +1

Definitely wouldn't hurt. But I've found that dirt and fluff get jammed so hard into the bottom of the plug (there's nothing sensitive at the bottom, only on the sides of the charging pin that sticks up) so the only thing that works is a fine needle to poke through the hardened fluff and then pick it out.

With USB C, the base of the hole and the walls have no charging components. With iPhones the walls do, so I'd be careful with those.

  • Should I grab it? or wait for S23+ deal like 450$ S21+ 2 years ago :(

  • Pixel 7 or Motorola edge 30 ultra for $699?

    • if camera and software is your Jam, then Pixel 7 hands down mate

    • I was thinking the same as well. I got GG to price beat the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra for $650 though so went with it.

      • Price beat who to get it for $650 ?

        • At the time lenovo had it for $689 ($10 less than JB) and Officeworks would price beat it by 5% (came to about $655) and the sales rep at the GG got permission from his manager to do it for $650. JB was going to do it for $655 price but sold the last one on me when I went down to buy it - walked up to the GG and they were very helpful.

  • Telstras return policy good? Bought one still undecided… Assuming we can return this if we don't open it??

    • Very complicated, you will have to push through multiple agents on chat and phone.

    • No, they do not accept returns unless the device is not working or not as per order specification. The best way to cancel is to refuse delivery.

  • +6

Got the 256GB model price matched by Officeworks ;)

    $564.50 - 28.22 (price guarantee 5%) = $536.28

    Picked it up, no issues.

    • Price matched in-store or over the phone?

      • +1

Over the phone and went and picked it up immediately. The deal is on telstra.com.au front page so it isn't like it is complicated or anything. It is an outright phone purchase, not linked to a plan. They can't knock it back.

    • I've tried twice with OW over the phone and got shot down both times. I think you were lucky.

      • Pretty sure this guy call the store to confirm pricematch, not 1300 number

        • Called 2 stores both said the same. One guy started to price match but his manager in the background shouted at him and said you can't

        • +6

Seems this did the trick, called my local store and they said they don't PM over the phone but if I came in store they would honour it. Raced down and luckily got the same guy I spoke to on the phone so he ran it through no dramas. $536.28, happy days.

          • +2

@bym: that guy is a champion!!!

      • sorry to hear that :/ I called directly into the store, not that national number. sounds like i was lucky

  • +1

anyone tried to price beat at officeworks?

    • Tried Officeworks over the phone and JB live chat. Both say they don't PM membership deals.

      • +1

I don't get their logic. It's not a 'membership deal'; you just need to make a Telstra account, just as you would need to make an account to buy from a lot of online retailers.

If they can price match Amazon or other online retailers, there is zero logic behind blocking it with Telstra.

        • +1

If you already have a service with us, you can buy outright without adding a plan.

its more than just having a telstra id

          • @maddoglee: Well, yes, technically, but you get a lifetime membership if you buy a $2 sim

      • keep trying JB chat or try calling

    • +2

I went in store and once they checked the site and read "If you already have a service with us, you can buy outright without adding a plan." they said nope.

      • In the past, I went to a few OW stores, each having their own interpretation of their policies, but I was successful at a few. With JB, it's much easier - you just keep calling back until you get someone who's ready to deal.

What's even crazier is if I was lucky enough to snag a bunch of those gift cards from Coles at 15% off, I'd be getting a full 20% off this deal.

  • I jave Telstra ID apparently, and am tempted, but I don't think it's a worthy changeover from S22 Ultra

    • Defs a downgrade your comparing high end to mid range.

  • Tried to get JB Price match but no success :( FYI for others asking.

"Thanks for your message and so sorry about the wait. Unfortunately the Telstra outright deals require an active Telstra ID to access these special pricings. Which means we are unable to match I'm afraid."

    Guess Telstra it is

    • +1

Same here. Also got that response last time Telstra had a deal where you needed a Telstra ID.
From other comments appearing looks as though Officeworks is saying the same thing.
Guess it's off to get a $2 Telstra SIM and going through them.

    • Every retailer will give excuses not to honour price match you know it

  • +1

Is it locked to Telstra network?

    • No, phones aren't locked these days. Only cheap prepaid phones are

    • AFAIK Pixels are not locked to a network

  • Does anyone use this phone in China?

  • -2

Damn, epic price. Pixel 8 announcement is only a few months away though…

    • +10

I don't get these comments. Every time there's a good phone deal someone says something like this. Not relevant to what is a great deal as it won't be anywhere near this price.

There's always a new model less than 12 months away. It won't be $500 and it probably won't be noticeably better/different either as phone improvements have been incremental at best for several years now. I mean how much difference is there really between iphone 12, 13, 14 for example? Enough to warrant paying double for one over the next newest one? Which would be the case with the pixel 8. Then that will get discounted 2/3 through the cycle and someone will say "wait for the 9".

  • +5

Cancelled my 256GB purchase… will hold onto the S20 FE longer… honestly isnt causing me any issues… damn OZbargain - makes me so materialistic!

    • +2

Thanks, you've convinced me to stay with my S20FE too.

    • +1

      another s20FE user here.
was thinkin bout the pixel but s20FE still going strong.

      • +1

There are dozens of us! Dozens!

      • I got this one two. nothing wrong

    • Ahh dammit I was just about to buy.

Only issue is I'm finding my FE only lasts about 1 day + a bit to the next morning; I used to get 2 full days easily.

  • +2

Thanks. I had no plan to upgrade my 3.5 yo Xiaomi 9t but this seemed too good to pass up.

    • +1

I'm in the same boat… I love my Mi 9T, perfect in every way except for the dropped VoLTE support on Telstra.
I've gotta either change phones or switch to Optus/Voda in the coming 9 months.

I'm gonna hold though, super tempted, but other bargains will come up and I can live with Optus coverage perfectly happily for 99% of my day to day.

      • +1

Same situation - mi 9T still working fine, yet tempted by this. Here's the spec sheet comparison:
        https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/google-pixel-7,xiaomi-mi-…
        Basically you gain:
        * current OS + get updates (the lack of this is my main gripe with the xiaomi phones)
        * esim (great for travel), but lose a nano sim (not so good if you want 2 physical sims, as most/all MNVOs do not seem to have esim yet, leading to higher prices for esim, as seen as a more premium/newer product).
        * faster CPU & overall performance (2.4 x antutu score).
        * better camera, obviously
        * 5G
        * waterproofing

Conclusion: Decided to not go for this deal. Pixel 7 looks like a nice phone, but when your old one still works, there needs to be a big jump (eg 3 x antutu performance has been my benchmark thus far). Although everything seems better about this phone, it's not better enough to justify it (it's all "wants" rather than "needs"), certainly not in this economy and with the damage to the environment. But I certainly could see it being worth it in a year - when the non-replaceable battery in the mi 9t starts to die, the performance jump is bigger, and esim and physical sim are the same price.

        • I've been on Pixel Experience Custom ROM since MIUI support was dropped, so I'm still getting software updates.
I'm happy with the performance, and the original battery still lasts me well more than 1 day's usage. I just fast charge in the car on my 15 minute drive to and from work. rarely go below 50%.
I don't really care about 5G at this stage, 4G is still faster than my NBN download speeds (I'm on WiFi mostly anyway) and it still seems to be a battery hog. There's even someone in this thread recommending that you change a Pixel 7 preference to favour 4G to extend battery life!

Camera is really the only downside for the Mi 9T that I'd care to upgrade, but it's fine for most scenarios.
and aforementioned the lack of VoLTE is the real killer

        • Mi 9T pro user here. That phone was amazing but it's time to go.
That list is so significant and the price so low that it was cleary the time to upgrade. Don't forget the end of security updates for those older phones and future OS updates for Android.

          • +1

@xavierod: Another mi 9T fanboi here.
Loved the phone and the pop-up camera. The phone is starting to get a little tired and glitching a little here and there. Also battery not the best but still works perfectly for my needs so it was a hard decision but decided to jump at this deal. Main reason was to get a good camera so I can take good photo memories of my child and another on the way. On back order for the 256. See if it actually goes through the system.

  • Hey Ozbargain, am I doing this right? Pixel 7 256GB RRP

    50% off = $564.50

    -5% Officeworks price match = $536.28

    • 2% shopback officeworks $500 gift card ($10 off) = $526.28

tourist refund on the GST ($48.75) = $477.53 (overseas trip in a few weeks)

    Accrued flybuys points

    • Have you done it yet or hypothetical?

Officeworks is knocking it back now!

      • +1

in my hands right now, looks like I got in early

        • Got very lucky

    • Called officeworks they're pushing back as you have to be a telstra 'member' with an active service.

      • Seems they got the memo from higher up. Likewise with JB.

      • So if I can proof I am Telstra member, can I still get it then?

        • Price match policy does not apply where you have to login to any portal to purchase a product. It has to be available to everyone and the item must be in stock ! 99% OW, JB and others will say NO to price match on this deal.

  • how to you get telstra id?

  • Hey, I'm guessing this is locked to Telstra? But okay to use on Boost sim, as Boost is on Telstra?

    • Pixels aren't locked.. ever

      • Any idea if they come with the Telstra boot logo and apps?

Wife bought a network unlocked Oppo outright from Optus but it still had the Optus boot screen logos.

        • I have bought 3 mobiles from Telstra in last couple of years. Haven't seen anything like that.

  • This is incredible value, basically makes other phones in this price range redundant. If I hadn't already bought the 7 pro I'd be all over this.

  • I've had pixel 1, 3 and now 7. 7 is ok but definitely the one I like the least out of the 3.

It's chunkier, heavier, and fingerprint scanner doesn't work well for me (drier hands).

3, even though the battery sucked, had the best of everything else.
