Scandia Firewood Hand Trolley $40 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Bunnings

110

After grabbing a great price on an ash vac, I searched for other Scandia bargains and found this. A Google search shows was $88.

In fact, I bought two (one for a neighbour), so I blew my savings on the vac :)

A review suggests it will benefit from a little chicken wire modification, but I've got lots of chicken wire.

If you have a fireplace, it might be worth a walk around Bunnings at the moment. About this time last year I scored this great wood rack for $90 - just the last of two in store.

    You're a good neighbour :)

  • Poor reviews on Bunnings…

Reviews on bunnings website are meaningless. Not enough data to be credible.

        Thankyou Mr Bunning.

      • 2/2 bad reviews may certainly not be seen as a 'standard', but it's certainly is credible.

Yes, some dodgy modification may be required. It's something of a specialty around here.

  • Sorry, we hit a snag!

If you go directly via the URL it gets a 'Page not found', where as if you search for it, it works (updated URL for OP).

    What happened to a wheelbarrow?

    • I'm hoping this goes backwards up a couple of steps easily and through a door.

Trailer from tree to woodpile, wheelbarrow from woodpile to wood shed. It was a sling from wood shed to fireplace, but now it will be this trolley.

I also think it will be useful for an older couple who can get a hand with the first two steps but have to do the last one by themselves of an evening.

I agree. An invention that no one ever asked for or needs. Just like the ash vac. Old traditional methods work because they are simple, cheap and effective.

I cut, split, handle and burn about 15m² of firewood every winter and can't see any use for this rubbish.

      • Are you a potter? Spit-roasting size open fire place? I tell my kids we're a bit soft getting through 5-6 tonnes a year in our pretty big slow combustion stove.

And I seem to have a soft spot for trolleys - tool, hose. Looking for a kisk arse, fat wheeled, not collapsible washing trolley.

I may have briefing considered starting a heavy duty home trolley import business. :)

        • 15m² is about 7-8 tonnes so not far off your usage. I source it from my own property so the wood heater burns 24/7 for about 12 weeks. Easy come. Easy go. Probably a different story if I was paying for it.

          • @Muzeeb: Yeah, we're similar. Try to put the first fire off until after ANZAC Day and winding down now. I buy in a bit over half - I'm lazy and our local fire bloke is a hero.

@TooSerious2 - This trolley is actually fantastic but comes more as a blank canvas.
The thumbnail shown is a bit fraudulent. You would never get more than two pieces in before the wood falls out.
We have used a wood heater as primary heating for 25 years and just in the last month bought one of these.
It is a bare frame and only needs some boards screwed into the horizontal surfaces of the frame to actually hold the wood so it doesnt fall out.
Unfortunately, this was not mentioned anywhere.
This is much better and lighter than a wheelbarrow we used previously and with the mod is a pleasing thing.

    • Thanks for the tip. Thought of chicken wire but boards would seem more solid. Or I've got some 50mm steel mesh somewhere…

    • Does the cover cover the whole cart? And is it suitable for use outdoor?

      • cover covers the roof of the cart and it suitable for use outdoor

        • Darn it. Then how does it keep the wood dry in the rain?!

          • @park it: It only keeps the wood on the top dry in the rain.

    • chicken wire is the solution then

    • @teaBagger I've just put one together. I can see I will need "floor" boards on the two levels. Did you find the need for front and back walls as well? Ta

      • No mate, only the floors. I actually used two old car mats for mine :)

        • Legend. Thanks mate.

I used an old rubber floor mat cut in half and some steel zip ties. Might run an leather belt vertically front or back.

I'll drop it off to Bill tomorrow. Cheers.

I think getting those beach/camping carts would be better. If you need something better then a gorilla cart from bunnings.

    • But more expensive, to be fair
