  • In this day and age what does one need to spend to play new AAA titles at 2k at stable 60fps?

    • +2

      $1500-2000

      • Dang thought so

        • If you can stand with 4K upscaled at mostly stable 30FPS then PS5 or XBSX is a more reasonable choice. And a decent specs gaming laptop to experience PC gaming scence and a Steam Deck for PC gaming on the go.

Personally I got all of the above. Fine with gaming as I am not missing out on much at 1080p 60FPS on my gaming laptop.

          • +1

@Grey 13: Yeah currenty playing Xbox with cloud gaming , have a gaming laptop and an sd

            • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: There you go, you should be set for now. I was comtemplating on getting a PC but just can't justify the usage so still happy with my setup for now.

              • @Grey 13: I have a PS5, but it's collecting dust because the games it carries are basic-ass AAA titles and other crubshrub. One of the things I love about PC is the amount of smaller, niche games where developers actually care about their product. That, and I turned my PC into an UnRaid server, so it's a NAS, Router, Media server, and Gaming machine - all-in-one. Well worth it.

As for the PS5, not sure what I'm going to do. I do have Grand Turismo 7, so just gotta start playing it. Might buy upcoming Mortal Kombat. idk, kinda regretting buying a console again, tbh (minus the Switch, which has an actual niche use-case). But it was on ozbargain, so i had to pull the trigger. I used to play games like NBA 2k, but they release a game every year with f-all changes and expect you to shell out. No thanks.

        • +2

          Um language Jimothy

3080ti used. Ryzen 5600. Cheapest b550 motherboard (for compatibility), cheapest ddr4 3600 cl16-19-19 ram. Decent 750w or 850w PSU (you could really get by with a high end 650w but you should invest in headroom. You could probably get a good one second hand.
1TB SSD. You really don't need a case to be honest but it's nice to have. You can Jimmy the pc on without a case.

          ~900 Gpu + 180 Cpu + ~100 MB + ~80 RAM + ~100 PSU + ~69 SSD

So yeah 1400. 3080ti does cyberpunk 60fps with dlss quality. But then starfield is very poorly optimised, one of the people who made a great mod for potato pcs was basically saying the game is doing a bunch of extra inefficient operations and passing incorrect data to the GPU. If its that bad you should be fine once it's fixed.

          • @Zoroaster: Starfield was unplayable with my GTX 1080 (I know, I know - anyone willing to take pity on me and upgrade my GPU?), on the only HDD I had space for it on, then I deleted absolutely everything that wasn't necessary and put it on my NVMe M.2 SSD - Now I can play it fine at 1080p - medium quality but smooth.

I'm not sure if that will help anyone else but SDD is def. required for Starfield. I've seen games say SSD required for years but until now they've worked fine on my old spinning disc.

Check the other deal by Nebula. :p sorry Op.

      • +2

Nah that's 4070-7900xtx prices, far overkill for 1440 60 and more like 4k60 specs. This pc will actually do 1440/60 fairly stably even on ultra, worst case you lower it to high settings instead.

    • +3

Not the type to especially care for AAA titles, but my 6600XT PC that cost <$1,000 over a year ago (with additional parts that are more about running it quiet and RGB lulz) can run Armored Core VI on high preset with ultrawide 3440x1440 Borderless Window at 60fps (according to the Steam overlay) without a hitch.

    • By 2k, I think your meaning 1440P 60fps and the RX6650XT can do that (my 6600XT can do that and then some) but its a case of what LEVEL you put all the glitter and glam settings, ULTRA settings might need 1080P upscaling to 1440P to get 120fps, it might be sub 60fps without. But lower the detail in most 2020-22 titles and 120fps 1440p is doable for sure. Some things like 2023/24 releases that use the older versions of the Unreal Engine 5.3 will, if and when optimised with ingame updates to 5.3 will zoom along!

Alas 2023 Cyberpunk and 2024 Starfield both suck (but with updates and mods) are getting better fast, the 66/50XT would be the lowest id go and its a shame they don't offer a 6700/6750 upgrade option IMO…

      • 1440 yeah sorry

      • FPS matter less on single player games, I generally play at medium/low settings if playing a competitive online game.

    • Honestly not sure how pedantic you are but this will work fine with a little tweaking of the most demanding settings and maybe FSR enabled. I play most games at 4k 60 with my 5600 and 6700xt combo but obviously just need to turn the settings down a bit in the more demanding games.

      • Not pedantic, I finished new hitman and cyberpunk on a gaming laptop with a 1080p screen at medium to low settings and thought it was alright lol

    • +1

Medium settings with FSR - this could do it no problem.

  • Any white cases in storage as upgrade options?

    • techfast charge apple like full prices for upgrades, so buy the base model and do the upgrades from msy/umart yourself

the old 500gb ssd/m.2 can be left as a linux install, assuming the mb is x4 dimms, add 2 more for 32gb (check) or replace and sell the 16gb

    • Just spray paint it… :) $5 at supercheap auto for paint.

  • My daughter plays only Roblox with the PC, is this any good for the purpose? Thank you.

    • +8

      A tad overkill, if anything

But good price anyway at $699, it'll allow her to jump to other games in the future if she's interested

      • +2

But good price anyway at $699, it'll allow her to jump to other games in the future if she's interested

This is the key for a games machine - always buy more than you need, so it doesn't become useless as soon as you want to play a new game.

If you spec down to a specific title, you're screwed when you want to change !

        • Yea that’s what i was thinking too and i do not want to be bothered having to upgrade it in a few years time too. I ended up getting the 7500f RTX4070 deal from Nebula, it was posted just in an hour after i made enquiry on this deal. Thank you all for the help too!

    • +1

Whoa too much for roblox. but will be fine of course.

    • Try Wobbly Life (Steam). My daughter loves it.

      • Sure will. Thank you Jim!

  • +4

Any chances of another ITX deal for around the same price range? I’m gutted that I missed the one a few weeks back

  • will this do 1080p or 2k gaming reasonably well?

    • +1

      Yes!

  • +1

How would this PC go with dota 2 @ 1440p/4K with max settings?

    • +2

      will be fine for 1440p

  • Looking to get a PC suitable for sim racing (iRacing, ACC) for both monitor + VR. Would I require a mid-range PC, or low-end like this would be suitable?

    • +2

I would suggest mid-upper range, like Techfast's other deal with the 4070 Ti at just under $2K. Keep in mind you might want to get decent sim gear like a seat-rig, steering wheel and VR goodies. Getting good monitors makes a huge difference in experience as well….and all these peripherals also cost a decent chunk of change.

    • +1

Definitely want a bit more GPU power, I have an rx 5700 xt which barely manages VR with tweaks, FSR, overclocking etc. Sell the 6650xt and replace it with a used RX 6800 and you will be good to go

  • Still looking for a PC for parents with no gaming. Grab this, or still better with an old Dell etc? Even the most recent dell refurb for $300 was surely worse performance than this?

    • +1

One of those Dell/Lenovo/HP SFF box IMO

      • Thanks. Any ideas what gen cpui should be looking for minimum? Budget isn't really a concern

        • Reason I suggested SFF is because people in that situation are not interested in RGB, mid-tower behemoth cases. It's better that it's reliable, quiet and out of the way (behind monitor, as a bookend) Most ones are 7th, 8th, 9th gen are plenty powerful for web, email, office duties,YouTube etc.

          • +1

@hippo2s: Even 6500T is powerful enough for those uses. I run SFF i5 8500s stacked with RAM for VM labs and CPU is not the limiting resource.

            • @Ozschmargain: Thanks for your replies guys. A few have come up recently but such a big range in price and haven't looked at CPU in ages.

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/799699

This one showed up and seems to be worth it over the $100 ones that come up?

So half the SSD size of this deal, and the same amount of ram. But no idea how to compare the CPU.

The naming conventions etc are all over the shop to me still.

              • +2

@kulprit: Intel gen 9 is overkill for those basic tasks, my wife uses gen 6 SFF for the last 2 years and she does plenty of spreadsheet, browser based productivity, YouTube media and word processing.

A good reason to get newer gen is for the younger age of machine, but these things are built to last.

Oh another reason for gen 8 and 9, check the specs, I think they support SSD via pcie slot. While gen 6 and 7 you can fit a sata SSD. That's a worthwhile upgrade as it speeds up booting.

              • +1

                @kulprit:

Yep, this is a great spec - I would probably choose this for a parents machine too.
It's new enough that it'll still have plenty of years left.

But no idea how to compare the CPU.

You don't need to compare CPU - they're all fast enough these days to do all "normal" tasks with no issue.

                • @Nom: That's good to know for the CPU, thanks. Will try and find a monitor as well.

                  • @kulprit: The easiest CPU check is just to avoid anything that is not an i5 or i7 - any of the i5 and i7 are more than fine 👌

    • [Refurb] Dell Optiplex 7040 i5 6500 16GB Ram 128GB SSD $87.20
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/799697
Even these ones will be enough.

  • Are you in a fight with Nebula?
    Bring it on

  • Can this video card handle 4 monitors at 4k resolution? I am not playing game just using for software development and compile code. Also run few VMs on it. I need output 4 monitors for work productivity like reading code and control multiple VMs.

  • Bargain!

I browse FB marketplace for the lols. People trying to flog their DDR3 machines for more than this!

    • And fools will buy the old i5 "gaming" machines. People want so much for their old junk.

    • Just buy this and flog it for $100 more on FB. :)

  • For everyone considering this, PSA: Be aware that 6650 XT has a driver issue that causes the PC to crash on sleep, it is super annoying. https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/comments/11ixez5/psa_amd_dr…

    • Just disable sleep mode - boot times are short enough these days that a fresh boot isn't the hassle it once was…

      • yep that's the workaround for now

  • Can you fit a PCIE network card in the slot, or would it require a riser?
