Great find! Gee how quick the price has dropped. 80 votes from last week when it was $40 more expensive.

  • what's the bet on this being sub-600 next week?
    haha

  • +3

Dammit! Paid $6.60 more than this last week :P

To anybody thinking about purchasing this laptop, I highly recommend it. Love it.

Upgrade the RAM to 8gb (total) with a 1 x 4GB Hynix 1600MHz module from MSY for $22. This specific module has been tested by a bunch of Ozb's and works perfectly.

    • +1

Thanks for the RAM tip - just went with my sister to get one for her, and got the extra RAM too. We're booting the thing up now… keen!

  • 1 month until Windows 8 launches so these will be EOL/obsolete for most retailers. Obviously, I'm not saying the hardware is old, but they need to clear stock to make way for the latest and greatest.

Awesome deal for an i7 notebook. The chip in this notebook is that much faster than my E8400 in the desktop it's not funny. I also think my E8400 is holding up quite well so this would be a big leap.

    • +1

Not really. It would be eligible for a $15 W8 upgrade do new stock won't be any different.

      • Having worked at a large retailer when Vista and 7 came out, I can assure you that all current stock will be considered old/obsolete and will be cleared out to make room for Windows 8 SKUs.

There will be a few display models hanging around in December but retailers will be wanting to clear them to make space for the plethora of new models that are about to launch. If you've followed IFA, IDF, Computex or any of the numerous shows in the last few months, you know there is a lot of W8 hardware coming out very soon.

        • +1

Completely different situation because Vista was an absolute donkey

        • Doesn't matter - new models will come out - old models will need to go. There is constant churn with laptops and regardless of what's in the old laptop (DOS, W7, a banana, car tyres), stock will need to be moved to make way for the new one.

Are you not wondering why a whole lot of really good deals have turned up in the last day or two? Ultrabooks at bargain prices, high end i7 chips in notebooks with dedicated video under $700? These are all EOL and in exactly a month from now there will be a flood of new notebooks out.

Great time to buy now actually, but if you wait, you'll pick up some hardware built with W8 in mind - gesture compatible trackpads, touchscreens, etc.

        • For once, I appreciate Microsoft Windows… ONLY because the arrival of Win 8 Pro seems to be helping reduce the cost of i7 boxes like this one!

(OF course, there's a -chance- that Apple and/or Android may be helping to cut interest in heavier PC notebooks, like this one…

But… D@MN-IT! …I -still- can't get any of my Android devices to print to my office's Kyocera laser printer… :-/

good deal, very cheap, the screen resolution is too low.

    • +1

      Needs a 1920 x 1080 screen.

      • +3

Good luck finding a 1080p lappy for $600

        • +7

          Thanks for the well wishes.

Waiting for it to go below $600!

  • Anyone tried putting an ssd in this laptop?

    • Given the size it should take a full 9MM drive. I've even seen Samsung 10.1" netbooks take a 9MM SSD without fuss.

      • SATA II or SATA III?

        • In the Samsung 10.1" I'm talking about, a mate put in a SATAIII (Agility 3) drive while the N150 only supports SATAII. No issue as SATAIII is backward compatible.

        • Anyone know if this laptop has a SATA III connection?

        • Speaking of tablets…
WHICH ANDROID TABLETS ARE -ALSO- MOBILE PHONES…?

          TIA

        • Ive thrown in a OCZ Vertex 4 SSD in this and works perfectly.

  • Got this laptop and an extra 4GB of RAM for $700 on Monday. So I essentially paid $60 for 4GB of RAM. Knew I should have haggled more.

  • -5

very tempting… but windows 8 is a game changer for me
in 18 months will there be any non-touch screen laptops available in stores? i doubt it.

    • +3

I dont. Windows 7 will probably be around all through W8 just like how you could easily get XP pre installed all through the vista phase.

      • +1

I wouldn't touch Windows 8 unless I had an FX chip from AMD apparently Windows 7 doesn't utilize the clocks properly reducing performance about 2-4% but even then Windows 8 is meant to respond 3-5% faster than Windows 7 and boots up alot quicker as well. But I can't use Windows 8 the same way someone from DOS couldn't use Windows. It's a touch screen environment and I like mice and keyboards… Windows 7 is for workers, Windows 8 is for consumers.

  • Yes i put a Crucial m4 128gig SSD in the laptop works very well. only thing is there no option to set the graphics to use the 7670 'only' in bios ..

    • "set the graphics to use the 7670 'only' in bios". I don't get it, could you please do me a big favour and explain quickly in noob-terms what that means?

      • +1

Some laptops have both "on-board" graphics and "dedicated" graphics. teloreth wants to set it so that only "dedicated" graphics is used.

The existence of both in 1 laptop is a power saving feature.

        • thank you kindly !

    • +1

The AMD Catalyst Control Centre allows this function, albeit only within the OS. So basically it allows you to either have the drivers automatically change the graphics card or manually between the Intel or Radeon card, of which you'd leave it at the latter.

  • +2

Trying to decide between this and the Toshiba Satellite Z930/00D on sale @ HN for $764.

It is better in areas like the 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD, weight and battery life, but is dragged down by the graphics card and Core i5 proc.

    • Great find, that Z930 price. Might be worth posting as a deal.

    • +1

Ram and SSD are easily upgradeable.

Graphics card is impossible to upgrade in a laptop.

    • I was thinking the same thing, the samsung is 638 plus $22 for extra 4gb ram from msy, plus $100 any 128 gb ssd from ozbargain, adds up to around 760 vs 765 toshiba ultrabook, both have same res screen, hmmm it all comes down to portability vs raw performance

    • I've fixed and stripped a lot of Toshiba Satellites in my time… wouldn't recommend them unless they are going to be in a single place like a desktop.

  • +1

Anyone know if this laptop has a SATA III port?

  • +++

  • Free shipping too.

  • Just got an email from JB saying 20% of Samsung computers.

Does that mean 20% of $638? Is this available in store at that price?

  • +1

Is this plastic or alumin case?

    • Plastic but almin look, i saw it in store

  • Anyone know if this machine is WIDI ready?

  • Have read some unflattering references in a variety of online threads as regards general Samsung screen quality in both laptops and ultrabooks - and not just the usual 768 res whinge. Can any people post some personal experiences that relate to any specific issues?

  • +1

Just bought it and it's going strong :) screen is quite nice considering the resolution, very fast, looks stylish and weighs less then I expected. Great deal! However can't seem to get two finger scrolling to work…

    • +3

My post from the previous expired deal for this model:

Thought I'd add the Touchpad Gestures for anybody who has bought this lappy.

      2 fingers up/down direction = scrolls sreen up/down
2 fingers pinch in = shrinks page
2 fingers pinch out = expands page
3 fingers left/right = toggles back and forward (will toggle pages back & forward in your internet browser)
4 fingers up on image = fullscreen

not sure if I missed anything

    • I'm having problems with this too. Hate to say it, but it's noticeably terrible after using a MacBook.

It's not that I don't know the gestures, it's just that it doesn't register properly.

  • I purchased today,. tried to haggle more without much luck
ended up paying more actually hahaha.

got a bag, & extra 2 year warranty for $755

  • Anyone know if this has dual hard disk bays?
Id like to have ssd and the 750g hard disk at the same time

    • Nope, it doesn't. Just do what everyone else does and buy a portable external?

      • Thanks for the info peps. :)

  • dosnt have dual HDD bays. buy a external usb HDD case and use the 750 in that

  • Does it come with 1 year Warranty or 2? Can't find this info in their Website…

  • +1

    1 year

  • Anyone know if this has backlit keyboard?

    • Unfortunately it doesn't. Would have made the deal twice as epic if it had.

Really hard to find lappy's with backlit keyboards at the moment. Should be a basic standard.

      • -2

Only need a Backlit keyboard if you don't know how to type :-p

        • I like backlit keyboards, and I'm fairly sure I know how to type :-/

  • None of the nearby MSY shops seem to have 4 GB 1600 MHz SODIMM RAM for the memory upgrade.

(When asked, even PC-DIY replied that they only have 1333 MHz RAM.)

Where are you finding 4 GB, 1600 MHz RAM? :-/

    • +1

      http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf

First page, bottom right. "SODIMM Notebook DDR/DDR2/DDR3 Memory" heading
      5th listing: "4GB DDR3 Single 1333 Patriot/G.Skill/Kingston/Hynix 1600"

The Hynix 1600 is $22 and what you want.

Not sure where you're located but Brisbane stores had them in stock last time I checked.

      Hope this helps.

    • Ive installed Corsair Vengeance 4gb 1600 into this and works fine. ($28 from Mwave)

  • Does this support sata 3 ssd or only sata 2, someone who knows plz reply

    • SATA is forwards and backwards compatible, so it doesn't really matter which ports it has, in terms of 'supporting' - it'll take both. The only difference you'd note between the two, are superior results in benchmarks with SATA 3 ports.

  • This is hell cheap, but does anyone know where I can get the NP900x3c or NP900x4c heavily discounted from? Cheers.

  • I have managed to get one for $600 (JB HiFi Queen St, Brisbane)

I have uploaded the receipt but please note, JB's printer was playing up
So its hard to read the model and SKU
However you can clearly read the order number or the serial number
    Hope this helps

If you can visit the Queen St Store, just mention the sales guy 'Nate' and they will match the price.

    Receipt: http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1761-170.html

    • I tried Sydney CBD and they said they not allow to go below than this.

      • Thanks Bappy, worked here in Melbourne

        • Thanks Babby for the receipt. Got it price matched in a Melbourne store as well

  • Got one for 609 from parramatta, couldent get 600 but still happy, went to msy to get ram it was sold out:(

    • if any chance you can upload your receipt here? thanks buddy

Just bought 5 of these for work.

  • If anyone has think about how's Samsung warranty or have issue dealing with samsung warranty? I've googled it this morning and seems like heaps negative feedback.

  • +1

Looked like a great deal so I got one for $607 at JB-Hifi late Thursday, is anyone having serious issues with their track-pads on this laptop, most of the time when I do a two finger scroll up and down on the track-pad, it's unresponsive and Ive been finding the screen very laggy, slow, random tearing and dotted artifacts on edges of aero glass when just moving a window around, an entry i7 laptop should not be acting like this

    Cheers

    • ditto

    • -1

What does the CPU model have to do with the issues your having? Nothing.

    • Hi I just bought it and testing now and found that i have same issues like what you have been mentioning. eg "having serious issues with their track-pads on this laptop, most of the time when I do a two finger scroll up and down on the track-pad, it's unresponsive and Ive been finding the screen very laggy", sometimes when i use one finger for trackpad and it does not respond too and when i press firmly and scroll and it sometimes "become dragging the window around", "like i have pressed show window and it minimize all windows and showing desktop"…is it software problems or DOA/ELF?..i restart now and see if it helps.

  • Last time i purchased a brand PC (many moons ago) they gave you a CD in case you needed to format it back to factory default.

When i purchased this laptop i didn't get any CD's, is this normal? If something goes wrong with the OS such as virus etc how do i get it back to factory default?

Also since it's a legit Win 7 OS, how do i get the cd-key? is that just on the underneath of the laptop? I don't have a Win 7 CD.

    • im pretty sure you can find the firmware files on the samsung sites if you search for it. i found some of my old 6 year old toshiba laptop files

  • how much difference in value is it between this laptop and this:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80699

is it worth an extra $160?

    • i reckon worth it as it is quad core i7 vs dual core. Also Intel vs AMD. 750GB vs 500GB. but seems like have common or some problems with the touch pad. Anyway i updating the driver and hopefully it run well after first reboot.

      • My local harvey norman has the lower model in stock but not this model. Thinking of going in and testing it before I buy, besides what you said before it is all the same? (so it won't overly matter if I try out the lower model in store)

  • Great deal, I got 1 from westfields Parramatta for $609 thanks to an earlier post

  • Can someone who purchased for ~$609 please put up a copy of receipt?
Also Harvey Norman, will they price match or beat the price?

  • I'm havig issue with the default display driver
Mine got HD400 as default display driver, still unable to change the the default display to AMD 7670
    Can anybody please help?

  • Yeah did a couple of F4 restores and installed the version 16 Synaptics touchpad drivers from the Samsung support page, as Synaptic's only had the version 15 of the OEM drivers for download to the general public, but it still didn't fix the problem. Got sick and tired of the problem's and went and got a refund, the sales girl said I was to picky, even though their display model had the same issues as well.If it didn't have those problems I would have kept it, as the price is right for the hardware spec's. It seems you can't buy a PC or PC hardware these days without it having some problems either with hardware or driver related.

    • And I'd agree with the sales girl. I've never known to return their laptop, just because it was having some issues with the touchpad. How long did you have it for?

  • +2

    ——-TRACKPAD ISSUE FIX. PLEASE READ——-

I think I found the fix for the trackpad issues everyone is having..

Find "Synaptics TouchPad V7.5" under your applications. Search for it under search bar in the Start menu.

Open the Application and simply tick the first box "Vertical Scrolling" under "One finger".
This will allow you to move up and down screens with one finger on the right hand side of the trackpad.

Works absolutely perfect for me, very smooth.

I think this will solve everyone's issue.

Sorry I didn't find it earlier hiska

    Hope this helps!

    • millzy, you can also try the TwoFingerScroll v1.0.9 tweak from http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/hp-touchsmart-tm2-wacom/3840… it improves the trackpad a bit, but I was still getting issues every now and then with trackpad not sensing finger movements even with it enabled, plus the other screen lag issues.

      • Yeah I was messing with 2 finger scrolling doesn't work too well.

Single finger scrolling works perfect. That's all anybody could ever want, right? :D

  • @ProspectiveDarkness, just over a day, just wondering you would be happy to keep a brand new purchased laptop with issues which you had to waste a day trying to debug and fix? under Australian Consumer Law the consumer is entitled to a replacement or refund if they believe the goods they have purchased are substantially unfit, the track pad is one of main input devices to operate the laptop, is its not working correctly and couldn't be fixed with the Samsung restore process and updated official drivers therefore I would state it's in a unfit state (some may think differently). Anyways just don't really care anymore just bringing up the fact in this thread to watch out for track pad and screen lag issues, because some retailers could not be so understanding and try to send the product back under a RMA to be repaired, even after only one day of ownership as an solution thus leaving the consumer without their laptop for up to 30+ days.

    • just wondering you would be happy to keep a brand new purchased laptop with issues which you had to waste a day trying to debug and fix?

Well I'm of the opinion that, if it isn't a physical defect - it can be fixed. Sure, I'd be a tad disappointed if it was lacking in a particular area, but what isn't these days? You take the good, and you take the bad…
I know that I would have spent more than one day with it, actively searching for a solution. shrug
As a matter of fact, I do actually own a laptop with a terrible trackpad, but I just use a mouse with it, instead.

under Australian Consumer Law the consumer is entitled to a replacement or refund if they believe the goods they have purchased are substantially unfit, the track pad is one of main input devices to operate the laptop, is its not working correctly and couldn't be fixed with the Samsung restore process and updated official drivers therefore I would state it's in a unfit state (some may think differently)

I never stated that you weren't entitled to a return, I was just wondering how it could have been so bad, so as to warrant a return. You can hardly look at Windows laptops these days without being told that they're a million times inferior to Macs - I was semi-assuming that you were being picky regarding that.

  • +2

    Guys

I have another way to fix the trackpad issue which you can scroll using two fingers.

download this "http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v15_2_20_C_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Signed_Marketing_SGS94_UI-Scrybe.exe" which is generic version and uninstall oem version and replace with generic version.

    Instructions:

    Start
    control panel
top right view by change to "small icons"
    programs and features
    uninstall Synaptic driver (oem version)
    restart your laptop
install the above generic version synaptics driver.
    you're all done

Note: so far so good with me. D*mn, bought three and two have trackpad issues and hopefully the last one works fine…

    • This is a much better fix than mine.

This update allows for both glitch free two finger scrolling up/down (anywhere on trackpad) & one finger scrolling up/down (on the right hand side of the track pad) at the same time.

Excellent work Aladdin, well done. Have tested and it is working 100%

No more complaints about trackpads with this model! All trackpad issues have now been totally resolved using Aladdin's fix.

  • what are peoples opinions on the build quality of this?

    • Awesome! Screen is solid as is the body. No creaking plastic parts when touched/moved

      Love this lappy!
