    Thx bought 10

  • U3224KB vs UP3218K, Which one is better?

    • +1

U3224KB better functional wise, but if I remember correctly, UP3218K is the premier color range, which usually means professional grade.

If you need one display to replace multiple and really centralised around a multi-device setup, use the latest 43 inch variant instead. I'm using U4320q and like it very much, but it seems the latest 43in model even comes with 4-device KVM and RJ45 builtin, which is really useful when you have multiple computers.

    • The 3218K doesn't support DSC either, so you need to connect it to 2 DP ports simultaneously.

  • +6

I'm getting 3 - perfect for my new Threadripper triple 4090 system.

  • +42

Muzeeb we need this at $351.55

    • +4

The name shall not be forgotten.

    • This is exactly what I read as the price initially, then scrolled back up to see it was 10x more exxy 😂😂😂

  • +5

at one time, i thought is 356.1

    • How happy was that one time?

  • +2

Doesn’t really compare with apple at 450 nits

  • +4

Oh I thought by XDR comparison that it does local dimming with hdr but it doesn't :((((

I have an ips with 1000 nits local dimming it's kinda cracked makes my eyes hurt. This is a bad deal. Bad deal. Bad monitor. Well for that price anyway

    • +1

Yeah this doesn’t even come close to Apples Pro Display XDR on the specs. Description misguiding people.

      • +1

I think barring the resolution, the Asus PA32UCG is one of the best creator displays. 4K, 1152 local dimming zones, 1400 nits sustained and 1600 nits flash brightness and has pre-calibrated colourspace options (P3, Adobe, sRGB) and multiple mastering modes (Dolby, HLG, HDR10)

        • Yeah I have the 27 inch version of that, got it for the true ozbargainer price of $850. By far the best money I've ever spent on a monitor.

          • @ZestyLewis: The PA27UCX? Damn that's amazing if you got it for that much, RRP is $2700!

            • @twister292: Actually just a disclaimer should've mentioned, got lucky and bought it essentially unused from someone who had made tonnes off crypto. They had decided to buy the most expensive monitor they could find, but as far as I could tell never worked out to turn on HDR and just played fps games anyway, so sold with the calibration tool sealed in box for $850. Just about choked when I saw the listing lol

  • The heck. Who is this marketed for?

    • +2

      reacher

    • +5

Professional designers. Colour correct calibrated panels, 10 bit depth, massive reso.

      • +1

Not exactly - the 8K Premier Color model is marketed towards professionals. This one is more of a prosumer who likes all the bells and whistles.

      • Dont need to spend 3.5k on that. Plenty of oleds out there that'll have better colour and hdr accuracy. Being colour calibrated doesn't mean much, a proper pro will already have their own calibrator since monitor colours will naturally get 'uncalibrated' over time.

      wanke^Wpeople of refined taste

    • Public servants ;-)

      • Hah, they wish. The ones I know have to make do with 1080p monitors. One was issued a monitor with a DVI port (Dell P2419H) for WFH.

  • +14

    6k already? I'm still on 1080p.

    • +1

      I'm still using a 720p TV…

      • Feel the buuuuurrn !

      • +2

        I just upgraded to CGA!

        FTW!

  • +2

This has nothing on the Pro Display XDR other than having the same res. The local dimming on the XDR would blow this away.

  • +3

I came in…. Then I realised I misread the price…. Moving right along

  • +2

I swallowed an icecube whole when I saw the price of this monitor….hopefully it isn't stuck and I can poop it out soon

    • +1

If you're pooping water you've got other issues

      • E.g. your upcoming colonoscopy

In the last 17 months I've bought 6 monitors from Dell (2 for myself at home, and 4 for the office as office monitors). Of these, 3 had defective display ports from day one and had to be replaced, and 2 I've now submitted warranty claims due to what looks like delamination (and these monitors have had < 100hrs of use).. It appears Dell quality control has dropped so I would suggest anyone ordering Dell monitors to thoroughly test all the ports, functions etc.

Warranty process wise not too bad so far, dell do care about customers from what I've experienced but you kind of have to jump through hoops a little.

    • Thank you for sharing. I was looking at a Dell just recently (U2723QE) but I think I will pass now.

      • +3

Don't be too concerned by that story, Dell have a pretty solid history of making reliable monitors. I used the older versions of those monitors previously and they are pretty nice, and USB-C on the Dells is pretty handy too.

If something does fail their warranty support is generally very good

    • -1

Yes, we've had a similar experience with Dell screens in the last 2 years. Their quality is now bad. And we aren't buying their lower range screens.

They do replace quickly, but are replacing defective new screens with refurbs.

We are switching to Lenovo screens.

    • +1

I have about 150 Dell monitors in the office I help support, my previous workplace had close to 1000, and the one before that would have had at least 6000 at workstations around the state. In all those (20+) years I recall seeing maybe one DOA monitor, and none that just failed within the first couple of months. If one did fail under warranty (it was rare but it happens to everything) I had a replacement shipped within a couple of days, and the old one was put in the replacements box and shipped back with the sticker they provided.

  • -1

This is more expensive than the Apple 6k hdr display

    • +7

I think you're confusing the Apple Studio Display (5K, cheaper than this) with the Apple Pro Display XDR (6K, more than twice the price of this)

    • +2

      But the stand is cheaper.

  • mind-blowing deal in every sense, bro

  • +2

Thanks, these will be great stocking fillers.

  • +4

    450 nits. HDR. Uh-huh.

  • +4

Can't wait to see explosions in minesweeper on this.

  • Interesting

    • You must not come here often.

So, what's the neg for again?

        • Because you sound terribly spoiled scoffing at over $180 of savings.

You might not be the target of this deal, but you also might have forgotten what the negs are for.

  • going to bring one to a boomer party going to be so popular

    • +1

You'll need to run it at 400% scaling for their eyesight though

      • +1

You don't need to change the scaling; boomer will just use an old HDMI cable and it will fall back to 1080p stretched.

  • +1

I don't think Dell has a direct competitor to the XDR. There's the UP3221Q which is 4K but has 2,000 or so local dimming zones, but it's like $5,700.

This one has the same resolution as the XDR but no local dimming.

You can get the Asus PA32UCG for colour-accurate work for around $4k, which has a 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 1152 local dimming zones.

  • Needs more Ks

  • +3

    Finally that 32" deal I've been wai………………………………

  • Card surcharge alone is 35 bucks… What the heck, gimme a dozen.

  • apple display better if you think use on mac

  • Do regular people watch video higher than 4k resolution?

    • Probably not too many, but if you're creating 4k video you could edit it at full resolution on this monitor while still having editing panels open at the same time.

  • There is one way to afford it :)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU7_oZOYTx4

  • Love my tech, but honestpy saw a 8k screen, could barely tell difference with a 4k. 1080p to 4k i see it. After that you kind of lose me.

  • this ok for retro games?

    • Nah youll want at least 8k for retro games

  • Any deals on binoculars so I can read text without using scaling?

    • Imagine not using scaling with that resolution/PPI, like it's 2005.

  • At this price with the specs of the Studio Display (not the Pro Display XDR as advertised) it's like the opposite of a bargain, you're paying pretty much $2k alone for those extra 4 inches that make it a 32" 6K display over a 27" 5K display that you can find as low as $1500 (when the Ultrafine 5K goes on sale). Everyone would be better off with two Ultrafines over this with just 450nits of brightness and no local dimming.

  • Can someone enlighten me on why one might need a 4k webcam…?

    • For most people here, scaring people for Halloween?

    • OF 😏
