the cards have been frozen already.

    • +4

Ohi get it now, I didn't understand the earlier comments about finding them next to the pet food etc.

      • +1

LOL you're welcome. Now you know where to look

  • Do these have variable loads or are they set amounts, as in $20,$30, $50, $100?

    • +2

      Excludes Variable Load

      • -3

Thank you. So they do come in $30 and $50? I dont want to spend $100 on cousins gift, $80 is fine

        • +8

I went to a Coles yesterday and saw the following:

          Teen: $30, $50
          Kids: $30, $50
          Baby: $50, $100
          Home: $50, $100
          Active: $50, $100
          Shop: $50, $100
          Choice: $50
          Good Food: $50, $100, $200

I could not find any Cinema nor Pamper gift cards on the gift card shelf at this Coles yesterday, and I do not remember what denominations they are usually sold at in Coles.

I will also note that even though I saw this at a Coles yesterday, it does not necessarily mean you will be able to find all of them at the Coles store(s) you go to next week. For example, some Coles stores only sell a very small selection of gift cards to begin with, so they carry a small number of TCN gift cards.

  • I wouldn't mind some of the 'The Pub & Bar Card' but they don't appear to be included.

    • Good food card is just as good.

      • +2

I clicked the link and found a very small number of participating restaurants

        • Good food card can use at any pub, bar, restaurant

  • +1

Nice need this so if JB matches the $680 PlayStation deal at Big W you can get it new for sub $600

  • +13

    No officeworks

    • +1

      OW left the chat.

  • Does anyone know if you can pay at JB or other shops on an item with both ultimate gift cards and TCN?

    • +3

Yes you can, I bought a new iPhone recently in store with a bunch of gift cards from deals before last Christmas and I had a stack of both cards, it’s annoying and time consuming but they don’t care what brand your gift cards are just that you scratch the pin panel yourself prior to redeeming lol

      • Great, thank you.

    • +1

Yes I have used 3 different types of JB gift cards in one transaction before. One used "cheque" on the EFTPOS and the other used "savings" and the other I had was a normal JB voucher.

  • Does anyone know if any of these can be used to pay for Streamotion (binge, kayo) I know one of them does but I can’t see it listed. Tx in advance

  • +1

Which deal has better value this one or the Woolworths Ultimate Gift Card deal?

    • +11

      I think 15% > 10%

      • Agreed but how did you work out that deal is worth 10%?

        • +3

make it simple. buy gc worth $100 get 2000 pts. It equivalent $10. So it 10% off

        • +5

Normal rate is 0.5% of value back in points, so 20x is 10%.

Also upfront discount is better than value back in points.

      • +2

I mean if you value reward pts which transfer to qantas it could be equal value if you book flights.

I'd take 15% cash off tho.

  • +1

Do people go there a couple of days before and hide the gift cards?? Hahaha

    I only want 2 x $50 or 2 x $100

So many people buy 1000s, can't even find a couple small ones.

  • Are $500 denominations of these common at Coles?

    • +1

No, usually to get that much you need to buy a variable load one which isn’t included in this deal unfortunately. Only $100 & under I’m pretty sure $50 and sometimes $30-$20 denominations but don’t rely on those smaller denominations

  • +4

Usually unable to find in store. I rather the online purchase instead

Either staff hide them or friends of staff ask their friends and family working in Coles deliberately keep them away from the general public

    It's absolutely disgraceful

    • +6

Actually, as soon as these deals are announced, people come in, take all the cards home with them (without paying). There may be some left over, but typically the remaining high denomination ones are gone by the end of the 2nd day.
Once the deal is active, we see people go to the gift card section where there are none of the cards left, look around a little, walk out of sight and then come back to service having miraculously found 5 of the highest denomination cards.

      • Doesn't make sense. How you take those cards without paying? That's theft without any credit heh. They need to be paid and activated to be any use… Don't think that's the case. The case is definately what I mentioned above. People purchase before available to general public.

        All insider work.

No point rushing to Coles early morning when they open you aren't gonna find any

The earlier online deal is the go. Just pay and get e-giftcard. No room to be dodgy stuff happening

        • +3

They take the cards home with them and then bring them back to pay for them when the deal is active. It means they are guaranteed to get the ones they want and I know some come in and “find” the cards multiple times when the store has none.
Yes, it’s technically theft to take the cards without paying but do you think anyone is going to stop them or notice most of the time? We can’t even stop people walking out with full trolleys now. No one really cares about unloaded cards.
As for how I know, I work at Coles and see this happen every time there’s a major sale on gift cards. I’ve had people “find” the gift cards somewhere that I had personally looked at minutes beforehand.

          • +1

@DoaAn: Ok so it is theft, stealing giftcard, its not worth doing so and have a police record.

With cameras and sensors and stuff everything bag check and barrier gates. Don't understand why people still do it

"Once the deal is active, we see people go to the gift card section where there are none of the cards left, look around a little, walk out of sight and then come back to service having miraculously found 5 of the highest denomination cards."

This bit not making sense. Isn't it more like people will pay for those cards they have taken when the deal is live? By taking the high value ones and pay them off during the promotion

            • @neonlight: Plenty of stores still don't have any of those security measures. Cards aren't going to set off any sensors, and likely wouldn't be noticed or cared about anyway. If an employee does see them steal it they'll either think the customer is an idiot for stealing blank cards or know about the upcoming sale and why it's happening. Either way, not likely to do anything or approach them. People stealing cards are likely low risk as far as it escalating to violence, but if it did escalate, who do you think would get in trouble for it?

You won't believe how many hundreds of dollars worth of stock of all kinds walks out the doors everyday. People come in load up bags/trolleys/clothes and walk out. Some try to "hide" what they're doing by grabbing a cheap bottle of soft drink and just paying for that. The vast majority of times, they will not be caught and they'll be back again soon.

              • @DoaAn: Sounds pretty bad. Looks like cost of living making a killing of shoplifting and they are doing that to gift cards as well….

    • Hahaha that's just ridiculous… I don't even bother to look for them, and usually just buy one or two for upcoming birthday/events … Good luck everyone!!

  • Is it more likely to find the gift cards at Woolworths or coles? There’s currently a 10% for Woolworths for Ultimate gift cards, in the form of everyday rewards points.

  • Can we still use them to buy jb hifi gift card?

  • Any way to convert these to apple gift card?

    • +1

Yep. Did it last time, when they were a measly 10% off. Buy Apple GC's at JB

      • Yeah I vaguely remember sthing like this in ghe last sale. Cant seem to find apple giftcard on JB website now though. Is it only sale in store?

        • Only in store

  • +2

If you've got Commbank Yello check your offers, I have a "spend $150 get $15" Coles cashback offer, expires next Wednesday.

    • +2

*Excludes voucher codes, gift cards and coupon deals
      Worth a try though

      • +2

Yeah they say that every time, but I've bought Apple Gift Cards before and still got the cashback. I don't think CBA can see what we actually purchase..

  • Any advice on whether to stock up now to get iphone 15 next year, for travel in March to claim GST, or wait for the next 15% off GC?

    • +1

for travel in March to claim GST

Do you plan to bring your iPhone 15 back to Australia? If yes, your phone will be more than $900 (passenger concession), and you should declare it while coming back to Australia and repay GST you claimed.

      • +2

No it won't be coming back

      • +2

Unless you use it overseas, then its value will be less. and you pay gst on the new lesser value.

But I dont think they ever check coming back in anyway

        • -2

But I dont think they ever check coming back in anyway

They do, you claim GST with your passport, so you will be flagged on the way back. They will not bother to check a luxury bag or cheaper things, but expensive electronics pose a high chance of being checked.

          • +1

@Mistredo: Do you even save money at all by declaring and bringing it back? Or is it just an absolute waste of energy

            • @lesher: Probably not. It depends on what you are declaring. If it is under $900 or you travel with family (combined passenger concession allowance) it makes sense do it.

              • @Mistredo: Some dodgy people will try to bring back item claimed TRS. If you get caught you are in some deep sht Yup very deep sht

                • @neonlight: I bought a Moto G54 and travel adaptor which was just over $300 total for my mum - and she got grilled trying to claim it when leaving Sydney.

"Don't you know TRS is only for foreigners leaving Australia" .. erm no
"If you bring it back you'll have to pay GST, so it's no point" erm no.

Had my poor mum all worried, but after blabbing on for a while they put it through. I dunno what they were on about. Anyone else had bad experience??

I did a phone a few years ago and had no problem.

  • Do any of these work on Amazon au

    • Amazon isn’t listed in the participating stores, what makes you think Amazon might work?

  • Does anyone know what denominations the Good Food cards come in? Thanks.

  • Playstation Store included which probably means discounted membership extension.

    • Have you tried this?

      • +1

No. But I will soon. My membership is finishing up

    • I was just thinking the same. PlayStation store would just be credit which hopefully can then be used for membership renewal. Be keen to hear of anyone who has done this

  • -2

    Does it support eBay?

  • Thanks

  • -3

Can i pay ATO with any of these cards?

    • +18

yep, just buy TCN ATO giftcard

      • Is there a limit? I got 1mil Zimbabwean dollars

    • +7

Of course you can. They have also added TCN child support

      • Lol

      • Ex-wife card surcharge is 50% though.

  • It looks like max 5 cards per person. so only $500 total per person?

    • I think the idea is 5 cards per person per day.

But how can they enforce multiple visits per day or buying from different stores?

So don't worry about it, worry about if you can find more than 5 cards on the shelves. :D

    • You can always go to different Coles or same one on the next day

      • -1

So scanning flybuys is not mandatory?

        • -1

          This has already been answered.

          • @PainToad: Thanks, I also got to find out from the discussions here.

  • -2

Planning to buy Apple Watch and iPhone.

What's the highest GC value? $200?

Things might have changed, does JB HiFi allow using TCN GC to pay for Apple GC?

Is there a limit on number of TCN GC in store?

Can stores place online order if they have no stock?

If buying online, I understand the checkout process only allow 1 GC?

    • +1

Your chances of finding that many cards for a watch and iPhone are slim to none.

    • +6

I paid my stuff with 60 gift cards in jbhifi in-store.

Get up early in the morning and go to few different Cole’s stores. You should be able to get enough cards. Max values was 100 last year.

You can use unlimited gc instore, but cannot use GC to buy apple GC.

For online, you can use live chat in jbhifi website to ask for a price match. They will create a unique checkout/cart link for you with matched price, sometime they could do it even cheaper.

After that, visit a jbhifi store, show them the link and let them know youll buy items in the cart instore with matched price and pay via GC.

      Good luck

      • Thanks, will be a challenge. :)

    • Do people neg for fun?

  • -2

    No Officeworks?

    • +1

Officeworks has never participated in the TCN gift card scheme.

  • -6

What stop people from pocketing the gift cards then come back to pay and activate them on the day?

    • +9

      The law.

      • -4

Well the giftcards are only being activated when you pay for it at the register. So you can steal a million without paying and they are just worthless plastic. Not really quantifiable for a crime.

        • +1

          Was that a joke?

        • +2

Activated or not, you don’t own the gift cards and you are stealing. Enjoy the criminal record if you get caught. Why would you risk your future employability for 15% off gift cards…. The world has gone nuts.

    • -2

You, my friend, are the genius. I'm pocketing the cards now.

    • Life hack

      • +2

Stealing is not a life hack.

        • +3

I'm not so sure about that, it's working for Coles isn't it? Sadly I can't steal people's wages so cashing in on cheaper gift cards is my next best option. Gotta learn from the best.

          • +1

@lookingforadeal7: You’re stealing the opportunity for other people to get the gift cards in addition to risking a criminal record for shop lifting 🤡

    • +6

No amount of discount is going to convince me to steal.
