Pixel 8 128GB $698, 256GB $798, 8 Pro 128GB $998, 256GB $1098, 512GB $1298 after $300 Trade-in Credit @ JB Hi-Fi

2463

I think this was an oversight from JB Hi Fi when they went early on the Black Friday discount to match Officeworks.

This offer expires midnight tonight (16th November) - get an additional $300 off Pixel 8/8 Pro with trade in.

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-8-pro-5g-128ā€¦

JB offers $1 trade-in for the Galaxy Watch 42mm which unlocks the $300 credit offer. You will receive a $1 e-gift card and the $300 credit voucher which you can use to purchase the phone in store or online. Start trade in here: https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au

Post purchasing the phone - Don't send the watch for trade in and cop the $1 fee for not trading in OR contact SquareTrade and tell them you do not want to proceed and they will cancel the trade-in.

Of course you can also trade in any phone/tablet and use the trade-in value of that stacked with the $300 bonus to reduce the price even more.

With the Black Friday price + trade in bonus = approximate 40% off RRP across the entire range.

    • Yeah I'm seeing a lot more Pixels in the wild recently so that's pretty cool. Before it would almost exclusively be iPhones and Samsung.

      • I had my Pixel 2 XL up until a few months ago, bought a 7 pro dropped it literally maybe 6 cm off the ground and it cracked in the top right and 5 cracks under the screen. My Pixel 2 XL however had been dropped/thrown by accident from a balcony landed on concrete, no visible damage…. So I sold my 7 pro and back to the Pixel 2 XL. I hate cases so i need something cheaper that won't crack by looking at it the wrong way which seems to be most flagship new phones.

  • Is the modem / connectivity issues resolved in the 8 yet?

I bought a 6 not knowing it. Overall loved the phone but I consistently got those issues.
Tried all the "fixes" but never worked. Now it's a paperweight

Love Pixel phone but the primary job for my phone is to make calls…

    • It was fixed with the 7

    • No, I have one and get 1 bar reception most of the time, even in the city, rarely get max bars and if so, only for a moment. Yet when I put either the voda of telstra sim in my burner A78 Oppo, I can get almost max bars 5G in the same place.

Work got me this P8P so can't complain, but reception is definitely less, battery goes faster too. If I had brought it I'd be at least trying to swap it for another.

There are a few things you can do to make it better but its quite odd, its almost like it tries to reduce signal strength itself to save battery, but it doesn't always step back up correctly, i.e things don't always load in fast, especially when on social media with gif or vids, it hasn't started dropping calls or delaying txts though. But its manageable and not that significant, it can still stream in a 4k60fps YouTube video at 2x speed with 1 bar of 5G.

There are a lot of reports of it online as more people are getting their hands on them. I have Model G1MNW in regards to bands too.

  • I was waiting until tomorrow for the google store deals on the 7a (plus the 10% student beans discount). I don't have anything on that list to trade in, does anyone have any idea what the black friday deals will look like on the 8?

    • follow the post, op suggested the galaxy watch 42mm (under galaxy wacth others), which I did. it doesn't require any code. try it :)

    • I hope it will be $499 for a 7a after all the discount!! :)

    • Google store deals won't always stack with 10% studentbeans FYI

  • Hi, sorry in advance but is this the phone that doesn't come with charger? If so where do you buy the charger or how do you charge it

    • +1

Surely you have a type c usb charger already, both our phones/laptops/headphones all use usbc to charge. If you don't have one just buy a USB c charger.

      • I have USB C cable but I don't have a brick for the wall

  • P8P 256Gb listed at $1598…even with $300 trade-in bonus (with $1 Watch 42mm) the price will come down to $1298.
Can someone please tell me how to get the price for 256GB down to $1098?

    • +1

      P8P 512GB is $1598.

      P8P 256GB is $1398

Double check you are looking at the right model.

      • +1

oh yes….sorry I was looking at the 512Gb model…thanks Prong

  • Is it the galaxy 4 watch classic 42mm?

    • No, you click 'Others"

  • +1

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but when I go through the process of trading in the watch, I only get the $1 trade in credit. Not the $300. Does that come in a separate email later?

    • +2

Yes it comes in a separate email after you finalise the trade in on screen

    • +3

Separate email with the subject "JB Hi-Fi Trade-in Coupon Specials" that should arrive at the same time as the trade in credit email, and you have to then click on a offer in that email depending on what you want to buy, and you are sent another email with the actual coupon.

      • Thank you very much. For some reason the email went to spam. Not even junk which is why I couldn't find it.

  • Any idea how good the pixel 8 Pro stand by time is with a dual sims? I would always need 2 number support, so wondering if I should do Pixel 8 Pro or wait for a good deal on the S24U early next year. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    • Looks like I will skip this and wait for the samsung - https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/comments/179bky0/poor_ā€¦

      • I have pixel 8 non pro, single Sim, 5g disabled I don't need it. always getting 10+ hours SOT on wifi. Haven't been out much to test cellular only. I did read the case can make a difference to reception and needs small air gaps around the frame in some spots. I have the torras MagSafe case.

Coming from a Samsung phone myself, there is no Samsung bloatware which is great.

        • I agree on the bloatware part. But 2 days standby vs 1.5 days makes a huge difference for me with dual sims as the later means charging everyday.

  • I just did the trade-in for watch got a giftcard with code and pin but where are we entering it while checking out.
Entering that in coupon code shows an error that its invalid. Any help peeps ?

    • +2

You enter the trade in value gift card as a gift card during the final payment stage, rather than as a coupon.

The bonus $300 off is a coupon though.

      • +1

Thank you silly me šŸ˜… ordered one

  • Stack with Big W 10% extra value Ultimate Gift Cards?

  • Worked a treat, thankyou

  • +2

    My pixel 7 128gb only valued for $350 ?? That's low ball offers .

    • Yeah, but what are you going to do with your old phone? May as well get some value for it.

    • +1

For trade in that's fair, my 7 pro 256gb was valued for $500 when I checked months ago but that's their cap. I sold it for $350 with slight hairline cracks in the screen and top right corner. You can get the pixel 8 here for $700 so half price for a second hand last Gen phone is fairly reasonable.

    • +1

$380 for the 256gb model seems more insulting

    • +2

You can get $440 for it here

      https://sell.reebelo.com.au/

  • +1

Good deal. Though the ID verification process seemed especially ornery today, and it took me 6 goes to get it to work.

No issues getting the bonus $300 coupon for me, despite using the same deal last year and not sending in the trade in phone. I did email and cancel though.

    • Any tips of getting it to work? Having no luck with verification

      • +1

Changed my hair style a fair bit, and slowly moved my face around more to capture more angles during the video, plus a bigger smile.

Not sure if they were actually helpful reasons - just what I was up to trying!

JB offers $1 trade-in for the Galaxy Watch 42mm which unlocks the offer.
Post purchasing the P8P - Don't send the watch for trade in and cop the $1 fee for not trading in OR contact SquareTrade and tell them you do not want to proceed and they will cancel the trade-in.

Iā€™m negging this post because the OP is encouraging exploiting the trade in offer and lying.
If enough people start exploiting their system they may make the trade in process a lot difficult for everyone or remove low value devices from being eligible.

    • +11

I suspect there is no exploitation going on. JB Hi-Fi has chosen to keep running this deal for many years now, as is, with no requirement to complete the trade in. This is just a discount that drives engagement in the trade in system.

Notably, the JB HiFi website states the bonus $300 coupon is for going through the trade in process until the point you get the eGift card. The bonus coupon does not require you to complete the trade in.

Which takes us to the terms of the actual trade in. Do you have to complete it? Canceling or not completing the trade in is not against the terms and conditions. They are quite clear on how the process works, and that it is an offer to purchase, and that ownership is not transferred until they have examined it. The procedure regarding the eGiftcard if the timeline is not met is also clear. At no point is there an agreement that holds you, or them, to completing the trade in.

Effectively, you are buying an eGift card from them, but can either pay for it with device you send in, or by credit card. If you don't use the eGift card, then they will cancel it.

The terms and conditions speak to the circumstances under which sqauretrade up can withdraw their offer, but don't detail terms for the sender of the device to cancel. The JB HiFi page mentions cancelling though.

Can I get my old device back if I change my mind?
Yes, but only if we havenā€™t finished processing the returned device. And, we'll have to charge your credit card for the value of the trade-in credit already issued.

In previous years, the deal and terms were the same. We can be reasonably confident that JB Hi-Fi is well aware of how many people don't complete the trade in, and they have had ample opportunity to update the terms and conditions if they want.

Keep in mind that JB Hi-Fi is competing with Officeworks in terms of bonus discount in conjunction with a trade in. Officeworks gives a higher value discount, but you can't use it against the purchase of the phone. JB Hi-Fi gives a lesser discount, but it is available to use immediately.

      • +3

Thank you. Bunch of Gerry Harvey's negging this deal is pretty hilarious.

        • -1

I don't see how highlighting my cause for concern with a neg makes me a "Gerry Harvey". People can read my concerns if they want and they can read OP's and Prong's responses and decide for themselves.

      • To cancel the trand-in request do we need to reply to the same email that confirms the trade-in order or it's some other process?

        • I sent them an email via their contact us page

          https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au/contact-us

        • +1

That's what I did last year, with no issue. I just said I needed to cancel the trade in, and they said no problem.

          • @Prong: Done for Pixel 8 pro! Your fantastic contribution is truly appreciated for providing a chance to save few bucks in these tough economic conditions. However, the recent Samsung S23 Ultra deal at the same price is causing some regret, and I find myself banging my head against the wall :D .

    • The prices they give for trade in phone is peanuts

      • But it is a deal with the $300 bonus trade in for P8 / P8P

You pretty much want to generate a trade in order to receive the bonus coupon, whether you actually use the gift card with trade in value is up to you. You can always tell them you changed your mind and they will simply deduct the amount from gift card.

        • Yeah I was replying to opt who said this is inappropriate

  • Currently have the Pixel 6 pro on its last legs (cracked screen, touch playing up & battery drain)

Was trying to hold out until Early 2024 for S24 range but this is very tempting.

Anyone with a P8P able to confirm decent battery life?

    • +1

Pixel 8 series battery life is mediocre as per all the user reviews. But still last a day with normal use. So its not bad but not great either.

    • +2

If you want the best battery life, then, Samsung is a way to go assuming they stick to Snapdragon chipset. (P7 Pro owner here). Battery on my phone cannot last whole day and have to charge it once. I think P8 Pro would be the same (based on GSM Arena review), so, I skipped this generation in hope that P9P would be much better.
Before this I had P6 Pro and battery life is only a little better with a bit less overheating.

Having said this, the user experience of going back to Samsung would be like living on another planet and returning to Earth :-)
(always had Samsung phones before P6P, except for Nexus One)

      • Thanks! Might try and wait it out or hope for a good deal tomorrow on a Galaxy series even with this good price point.

The P6 Pro was my first Google and its definitely being mixed. Great camera, some great features and ease of access at times but also Have had alot of issues with battery, overheating and certain apps draining which I have never really had the same extremities with Galaxy/Iphone in the past.

        • If you don't mind OneUI user interface on Samsung (which I no longer like) then, the hardware on S23 is way better than any Pixel, past or present.

          • +1

@vrsac: They made some good improvements in Android 14 based One UI6 update recently rolled out for S23 series. UI is now visually better and snappy in performance. Personally I prefer it over stock android as its more user friendly and easy to navigate compared to stock android. Again its a personal choice, and some may prefer stock UI.

            • @usmanhafeez2000:

              UI is now visually better

The full-screen control panel is a pain and the white toggles don't look great, the new default font is horrible, app icons are weirdly big, they changed functionality for the sake of it and it's sloppily designed.
The release version is essentially still a beta (a Samsung rep said so). There are bugs, the new Studio video editor is glitchy as.

              • @Techie4066: They gave you the flexibility to change all these which you mentioned, so for me that the kind of flexibility we need.

                • @usmanhafeez2000: They do. But changing the system font for example screws with how fonts are displayed in apps. For example, text that is supposed to be bolded in the Opal app becomes un-bolded after switching to the Roboto font.

              • +1

@Techie4066: You can change the 'white toggles' in wallpaper and style -> colour palette

font can also be changed in display -> font size and style

I use Nova Launcher so haven't noticed any abnormally large app icons on desktop or app drawer

                • @CodeXD: I'm aware. You can't create your own palette so you're stuck with the suggested colour changes to other UI elements. I'm also aware of GoodLock but not interested in that. See above for my annoyance with changing the font. Not a fan of some of these Pixel-ified changes. On the bright side the software is snappier and camera processing is now instantaneous.

    • +2

I came from the p6pro to p8pro. its the exact same mediocre battery life.

The only thing I really enjoyed coming from p6pro was the face unlock.

      • What about screen brightness difference? Very noticeable?

        • screen brightness difference is significant and very noticeable outdoors, but you do notice a decrease in contrast/saturation during its 'boost' brightness when in full sun.

I ride alot, and I use the phone at navigation sometimes and i no longer squint trying to see the screen when outdoors in full sun.

          • @lawyerz: Nice… been on the fence for ages whether to upgrade my 6 Pro… reception starting to drive me nuts

    • -4

A Pixel is a mid spec phone dressed up as a flagship. An S23 or S24 when they arrive are guaranteed to be better

  • can you use JB gift card with this deal? also is it better to walk in their store to do this instead of online after getting the $300 coupon

    • I bought online using a $100 JB Hi-Fi gift card I had, along with the $300 bonus coupon, leaving me ~$900 to pay by credit card. I did not use the $1 trade in eGift card.

  • I have traditionally skipped years. So I have a Pixel 3, 5, and 7.
It looks like I could go up to Pro 256GB and trade in my 7 256GB and get the cost down to $718.

Does JB do this every year? I don't really need a new phone, so maybe I should wait for the Pixel 9?

    • If you want to trade up from a Pixel 7 get a Samsung S23, it is miles ahead of a Pixel 8. Just wait for black Friday sales, or the s24 to come out (January)

  • Hi all, silly question. Is the trade-in only valid for a Samsung Galaxy Watch? I have an old Pixel 4XL. Can I trade-in the 4XL for the $300 coupon and pick up a Pixel 8pro 128 for $998?

    • Would love to know too

    • Yes i think so. I just traded in a Oppo Reno z, for a $1 value. The $300 is a coupon that comes from Jbhifi (via email) after the SqaureUp transaction occurs. So i just bought a Pixel 8 for $698. In terms of whether i reneg on the $1 trade in value for the Oppo as the post suggests is another question. But hey, $300 off a Pixel 8 is great considering the Pixel 7 is the same price point.

      • Legendary. Thanks chaps!

  • +1

So the advantages of this deal are that you don't have to trade anything in + you can use the gift card to buy the phone

But raw $ wise the officeworks one is better right?

    • Not unless you have something that you were anyway planing to buy from Officeworks - because you get the gift card after your purchase. In this deal, you can apply the gift card for the same purchase

  • +1

Can you trade in any kind of phone. I have an old xiaomi redmi note 5 pro. I think it kinda still works.

    • Click the link in the description?

    • They don't seem to accept Xiaomi phones but I could be wrong

  • 10 goes at the verification and still havent got it to work. WTF

    • It took me six. So painful.

In the end changing my hair styling seemed to work? I also moved my face around more in the selfie video.

      • Does it mean they now have 6 facial "fingerprints" of you on their system? That's concerning….

  • OP can you confirm the prices.

Is it $1398 for the P8 Pro 256GB.
    If I trade in my P8, I will get $840 (value) + $300 (bonus).

So technically I can buy the P8 Pro for $258?
But have to do this by tonight?
Also can I do it all online? there's no stock near me

  • I would play it safe and wait till Samsung BF deals tomorrow should be galaxy phones. see if S23 Ultra is on special. Pixels are good phones but battery life and bugs.. happy to be proven wrong, but I find Samsung platform more solid compared to Pixels. I had pixel 3, 4, 6a. cameras are great, but holy crab.

    • Pixel is great for if you take frequent photos of your kids/pets who are always moving around. The S23 Ultra camera does not even compare for moving subject photos.

      • haven't noticed any issues with my S22U camera, both in static and moving scenes (incl kids). can't remember if things were better with Pixel in this department, to be honest, but S22U not a problem. wish it started a bit faster, my only complain

sometimes though I wish S22U had 5x camera instead of 10x. 3x is sometimes too wide and 10x too long. but then again there are times when I use 10x, and it's been great

hopefully some S2XU will have a zoom lens lol or maybe all the options above: 0.6x, 1x, 3x, 5x, 10x XD

    • I have my fingers crossed the S23+ will be on sale

  • Is there any chance for better trade-in offer to match with Office works from tomorrow? considering this offer ends today, jbhifi may match with officeworks $400 offer or may come with different bonus trade in offer.

  • -5

imo you guys are being too carefree. being blacklisted may cause you issues in the future. you sound like the people that say they don't care about their bad credit and it doesn't affect them until it does. and it's not just squaretradeup blacklisting you, at the very least the whole riskified network will, and it's possible they also share data with other anti-fraud systems, and since it's being done at this scale thanks to this post, they might get JB involved too. im not preaching ethics, just saying it could have practical consequences. yes, it's a tempting deal, I love pixel phones, but I wouldn't do this unless you're doing a legitimate trade in.

    • +2

The bonus coupon is in exchange for completing the trade in process to the emailed eGift card point.

There are no terms that dictate you have to complete the entire process, and the process if you don't is clearly laid out in the terms. There is no penalty - you are effectively buying an eGift card, and you either pay for it with the trade in device, or by credit card. The bonus coupon is a reward for engaging with their trade in system.

There's no fraud involved. JB Hi-Fi even mentions you can get your device back as long as they have not finished processing it.

I emailed and cancelled a trade in last year, and they said no problem. My trade in this year was not blocked.

No doubt in the future if they have sufficient engagement with the trade in process, they may update the terms. But until then, this is just them offering a discount in a way that also gives them a benefit.

  • +1

For anyone who previously did a trade in to buy Pixel 7, go back and find your email from squaretrade.

subject: SquareTradeUP: JB Hi-Fi Trade-in Coupon Specials

Click on the broken image link under $300 off Google Pixel Range and you'll get a code for Pixel 8.

    • Wow, that is a great find.

This didn't work for me, but I already did a new trade in, and got a new coupon, so presumably it tracks by account.

      • It tracks by order number. The new code I received today has the old order number from my previous trade in.

Did you just get a blank page? There was some issues with squaretrade page before but seems fixed now. You can also click around on the other links in there to get codes for samsung phones/tab lol

        • Mine says "Direct access denied" on any of the deals.

Not sure what deals were on at the time, but I did the trade in for the Pixel 7 at launch, rather than leading up to Black Friday.

The coupon email for me might be different - the subject is "Your JB Hi-Fi Trade-in Credit + Coupon options".

  • +1

I'm very tempted at this price. Camera sounds fantastic but I worried about battery life, fingerprint reader, and some other things people have found. I was thinking the Galaxy S23+ might be a good option (I like flat screens). Hopefully the S23+ might get a good deal (again) sooner or later
