Pixel 8 128GB $698, 256GB $798, 8 Pro 128GB $998, 256GB $1098, 512GB $1298 after $300 Trade-in Credit @ JB Hi-Fi

2463

I think this was an oversight from JB Hi Fi when they went early on the Black Friday discount to match Officeworks.

This offer expires midnight tonight (16th November) - get an additional $300 off Pixel 8/8 Pro with trade in.

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-8-pro-5g-128…

JB offers $1 trade-in for the Galaxy Watch 42mm which unlocks the $300 credit offer. You will receive a $1 e-gift card and the $300 credit voucher which you can use to purchase the phone in store or online. Start trade in here: https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au

Post purchasing the phone - Don't send the watch for trade in and cop the $1 fee for not trading in OR contact SquareTrade and tell them you do not want to proceed and they will cancel the trade-in.

Of course you can also trade in any phone/tablet and use the trade-in value of that stacked with the $300 bonus to reduce the price even more.

With the Black Friday price + trade in bonus = approximate 40% off RRP across the entire range.

Dang! Pixel 8 Pro for <$1000 is tempting

    • +4

      don't think just buy!!!

  • +3

Deal says trade in "before" November 16, but then goes on to day Offer ends November 16. May want to confirm you'll get the voucher considering today is 16th

    • +3

To confirm, it expires midnight tonight - i've had a few people checkout already and receive pick up notifications.

      • Are you associated?

        • +10

No, i just shared the deal with friends earlier to test it would work :)

  • they wont debit your credit card the $300 trade in value for not sending in the watch?

    • +5

No, trade in is managed by SquareTrade and the bonus is offered by JB as a voucher code.

I've used this service previously and not returned the phones and they have not billed the voucher code or an additional administrative fee like Samsung Trade-Up (Asurion does). Might change after they see this post haha

      • +2

thanks for confirming but plz delete this haha

      • I was sure when I looked at it last week there was a notice that deduct the full bonus voucher from your credit card if you don't send in the item, whether or not you have used the voucher. Just tried to look it up again and confirm and all I can find is the old conditions where you only lose the trade in value. Wondering if I imagined it or just misread it.

      • -3

they will blacklist you. You can't do a trade-in next time with the same account.

  • +21

Note - doing this may blacklist you from further trade ins with Square Trade Up. I did this and was unable to do another trade in, however I contacted support to say I “forgot” to send it in time. They removed the blacklisting then :)

    • +9

Yeah from an earlier thread on pre orders it appears majority of folks who did not send in their trade in devices will be blacklisted. Note you are required to upload and validate your ID during the trade process so the blacklist could be against your legal ID. Something to consider if the future hassle is worth the $300

      • +20

Before everyone getting too excited, Oldgeezer and chylee are correct, Square Trade will Blacklisted anyone who didn't send in their trades. They (same as JB) also use the same riskified system (https://www.riskified.com/) to manage fraud. Once marked, you will have a bad time buying / selling from any vendors that also use riskified as their anti-fraud system.

There is only 1 person in the group claiming you can get them to unblock you. Sure, it can done but it is NOT certain, AND how many times you can risk before you get banned indefinitely.

If you have a valid trade-in, it is GOOD deal but don't commit fraud. (at least in the eyes of the anti-fraud system)

        • Good to know. I don't trade in stuff usually so this doesn't really bother me. If a lot more people do it, it will be harder for them to ban/blacklist imo cause they will also be losing out on potential customers.

          • +1

@deathjr: To them, or people who use Riskified fraud detection system, you are NEVER a potential customer. :)

The key is not whether you can trade-in again with SquareTrade, but any company who used Riskified for their risk management will reject you as a potential customer. And you have no idea who will sign up with this company in the future. It has long term consequences!

This is a quote from Riskified website:

Riskified’s fraud and risk intelligence platform uncovers the true individual and behavior behind each interaction to provide real-time decisions and robust identity-based insights. Our solutions empower you to provide delightful experiences for good customers, and stop fraudsters and abusers in their tracks.

        • +2

Not sure if this was just my experience, but I was not blacklisted, and I didn't send in my trade in last year for the Pixel 7 Pro.

In my case, I didn't use the trade in value gift card, and I emailed them and canceled the trade in, within the time period.

          • +1

@Prong: We won't know what they do in the background, maybe it is just ozbaragin ratings…

            cancelled a trade maybe -1
not sending a trade maybe -5
when you collect enough -1 ratings, your account get blacklisted.

            • +1

@bobokingdom: Cancelling the trade is not against the terms and conditions. And it specifically says the coupon is for completing the trade in process through to the point the eGift card is sent. JB Hi-Fi even note you can cancel and get your device back up until when the

This deal is JB Hi-Fi giving a discount, but doing it in a way that gets people engaging in the trade in process, rather than just buying at a discount.

If cancelling trade ins was a problem, they would have updated the terms and conditions after the numerous other times they have run this deal.

        • +4

If you have a valid trade-in, it is GOOD deal but don't commit fraud. (at least in the eyes of the anti-fraud system)

Yeah I don't get why so many people here are just so willingly OK with committing fraud that will likely bite them in the future.

There's no such thing as a free lunch and for the couple of people here saying they did this, there are possibly dozens who did it and got a charge or something.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: What is the "fraud" here?

What part of the terms and conditions are being broken by not going through with the trade in?

          • +1

            @coffeeinmyveins:

There's no such thing as a free lunch and for the couple of people here saying they did this, there are possibly dozens who did it and got a charge or something.

There is no evidence that anyone has been charged the $300 bonus voucher, not before and certainly not now. Similar deal was available for Pixel 6, several times for Pixel 7, and now Pixel 8. JB also has trade up bonus for Samsung phones, not a single user said they got charged when they cancelled.

        • +1

I agree. Our community just goes for it when they see a bargain and neglect to see the consequences. This is perfect timing for me for a new phone so an excuse to buy.

Still, I think this is a small issue. It's not like getting a credit check.

      • +2

Just switch to Optus and get a free new licence number.

    • +19

There's a difference between one person doing this and encouraging a forum with thousands of people to do it

    • When the majority of the customers are on the blacklist…

    • +1

I have did the same thing 3 months ago when they offered a similar promo and I just called Square Trade Up and told them I changed my mind and I no longer wanted to send my trade in device. They said all good, my card was charged the value of the trade in, which means we were all done.
I expect the blacklist is for people who initiated the trade in and then simply vanished - if you call them right away they just cancel the trade in, you don't even have to ask to be removed from blacklist course you were not blacklisted to begin with.

  • $50 more for p8 and $50 less for p8p compare to preorder offer. For those who missed it.

    • Why bother to pre-order when sales like this starts 1 month down the track.
Jay Bee youd done it again.

      • Because preorder p8 offer is still $50 cheaper than this deal. Also, if you got this on launch, you've been using it for over 1 months already.

  • wait so you guys are legit saying i can just say im sending a watch to receive the discount but never send it in?????

    • -1

Need bit more info/details as well. Step by step would be nice :)

    • Yeah you can many people have done it multiple times. If they blacklist you, send them an email letting them know you didn't to change your mind after the fact and they will remove the restriction.

      • +1

As in tell them that you never bought the device so weren't required to trade in your watch?

        • +3

Tell them you changed your mind after you submitted the trade that you wanted to keep the watch/phone whatever you were going to trade in. You only need to do this if you are blacklisted and want to initiate a trade in the future.

          • @11112007: Does this also mean if I did decide to trade in my device I would get 300+ the trade value off?

E.g. trade in value for pixel 6 = 230 so final price of pixel 8 pro would be $988-230 = $758?

      • +1

thanks so much been waiting to upgrade and this had made it worth pulling the trigger just ordered it all worked perfectly

  • +2

Oh come on! I literally just bought the 8 Pro yesterday and traded in my S22 Ultra, bought it down to $557. Any chance that they would somehow honour or refund the difference if I sent their team a message?

Edit: Not sure if JB fixed thier prices, back 8 Pro is back to 1,298.

    • +2

If you got it for $557 how is this a better deal?

      • +1

As this was priced at $1,098 it would have bought the trade in price to $227 as I purchased the 8 Pro at $1,277

    • +1

      It's $1298 before the $300 trade bonus = $998

      • +1

Ah, gotcha. I assumed it was 1,098 + Additional $300 trade in bonus. Too many morning coffees clearly on my end.

      • So it's $300 off the undiscounted price or the currently discounted price.

For example, the Pixel 8 Pro 256GB was $1799 and is now $401 off at $1398.
With the trade in bonus, does this then bring the phone down to $1098, and then do you also get the actual trade in bonus. So for example, my current Pixel 7 is valued at $380. This would bring it down to $718

        i.e. Current price is $1398 - $300 bonus - $380 trade in = $718

Of course, if I traded in my Pixel 5, it is only worth $50, so that would be $1048

    • -3

Why one would buy anything before the black friday deals kicks in ?

      • +2

Risk versus reward. It seems likely that even if there is a better deal later on, it won't be better by much, and there is a higher chance of running into issues with stock levels.

This is a good deal right now.

    • Still curious how you got it for $557?

    • I bought mine on the weekend… What can we do? haha

    • Mate you definitely didn't need a new phone

  • How are you getting the watch at $1? What condition are you describing it in?

    • +1

From the main trade in screen > Samsung Watch > Other > Watch 42mm. The price comes up @ $1 value.

  • Could I get jb to price match telstra for the s23 and then use this method?

    • Got them to price match mobilciti and got the s23 ultra 256gb for $1049, not sure if that's a great price but needed it

  • Don't have my ID on me :(

  • -1

    Here is the catch:

If our Returns Centre does not receive your device(s) in 14 days; your credit card will be charged the amount equal to the eGift Card issued

    • +3

The e-gift card is the value of the trade in, not the bonus. So in this scenario it's $1.

      • -2

But can they use this as a way to charge you the$300?

        • +1

SquareTrade manage the trade-in, unrelated to JB providing a voucher for the $300. So no.

Many people here, whirlpool and reddit have done this dance. No one has ever been charged the bonus value.

          • @11112007: Cheers

            • @deathjr: This is from the instruction email:

Thank you for trading in your devices with us.

              Your order number is:

You will need to prepare the following device(s) and listed items

and send within the next 7 days.

If our Returns Centre does not receive your device(s) within 14 days, we will charge the pre-authorised hold on your account for the equal trade-in value offered for your order.

              • @11112007: I used the trade-in path for the Oppo X5-lite deal they had, in the end though my old phone was worth more then their offer, didn't send my phone in and they just billed me for what they gave as credit …

  • Bought pixel 5pro 128gb for $998

Will pickup this evening! Thanks OP!!!

Huge upgrade from my pixel 2XL!

    • +4

Ah yes, the goggle pixel 5pro phone!

      • 5+3 ;)

    • Wow you held onto your 2XL longer than I did haha. I gave in last year and bought the Pixel 6 Pro. Congrats on your 8 Pro!

    • +2

Hold on to your pixel 2xl to keep using unlimited Google photos backup!

  • +1

I have completed the trade-in with the squaretradeup and have received an email of JB Hi-Fi Trade-in Coupon Specials, but in the email it only lists Samsung Galaxy phone's offers!. There is no Google pixel's phone offer in the email I have received.

So which trade in voucher that I can use to claim the $300 to buy this Google P8 phone?

    Thanks

    • The Pixel offer was 6th one on the list.

      • You get the $1 e-gift card for the watch, where does the $300 come in sorry?

  • +1

Officeworks are offering bonus $400 trade in on the same base price, does this also work with Moorup (instead of JB and Square Trade)?

    • +4

OW deal you get the $400 gift card in December after you buy the phone. This one you can use it for the phone.

  • +3

Don't send the watch for trade in and cop the $1 fee.

Don't use the $1 egift card they send, tell them you changed your mind, and they'll just cancel the gift card.

    • This is a very good way of getting around it. Will update main post.

    • you have to use the gift card with the coupon code, I tried remove the $1 giftcard and the 300 coupon is removed as well.

      • +1

        I didn't use the $1 card.

        1298 - 300 = 998 is what I've paid

      • +1

No you don't, they are both individual gift cards.

  • +1

Just did this and snagged the pro for $997 great deal thanks op

  • Received an sms that my click and collect is ready for pick up, that was fast!

    • Same, don't think we'll see a better deal next week than $700 off a 1 month old phone.

  • Can you stack gift card on this? (Bought them at 10% discount)

  • Can price match with HN for $977?

    • Absolutely, try cia live chat

  • just got the deal for the P8 pro, awesome post! thanks op!

  • -6

When I read the terms and conditioned, it seemed pretty clear that they would charge you the $300 difference also…

    • Where? The 300 is a bonus credit applied not charged.

    • +1

They say they will charge you the trade in value.

      The $300 is a coupon.

Source: I did this a few months ago for Pixel 7. Was not charged the $300.

    • I'm sure I saw this last week too. But can't find it now. Maybe they changed it back to the trade in value only?

      • +1

Yeah it's possible that it changed. Pretty good at reading these days and having a fair assessment of the likely outcome. IE with Samsung it's quite different

  • +1

Awesome thanks, more than happy to trade in a crappy cheap Oppo to get $300 off a Pixel 8. I was just about to buy a Pixel 7 at the same price this week! Legend crazycs
