Update (22/11):

Rockhampton QLD
Stuart Park NT
Hervey Bay QLD
Launceston TAS

Maybe some others I've missed.

Apple fanboys, take note. This is what a REAL laptop deal looks like.

  • 14" 2.8K OLED display with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels.
  • Intel Core i5 13500H Processor 2.4GHz, Turbo Boost up to 5GHz.
  • 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM.
  • 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD storage capacity.
  • NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3050, 6G-GDDR6 (2C51216*3) 16Gbps
  • Ports include 2 x USB Type-C USB 3.2 Gen 2, and HDMI 2.1.
  • Killer Wireless Wi-Fi 6E 1675i & Bluetooth 5.2
  • Backlit Keyboard.
  • 120 Hz refresh rate.
  • 12 month warranty.
  • 15 hour battery life.
  • Windows 11 Home operating system.
  • Fingerprint unlock.
  • Dark grey design.

Battery life allegedly isn't the best, but can be mitigated with certain tweaks. It's a Samsung OLED Panel too, so it will look better than the HP ones.

Unprecedented for an OLED Laptop with these specs to cost less than $1k. This is the laptop deal of the year IMO.

Thanks to the user joffaa for finding it: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14601403/redir

[edit] Officeworks got the title of the product wrong, the GPU actually has 6GB of vram, not 4GB.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2023

Bro you just seem to be a oled hater.. everything i use is oled. No burn in here. They are more power efficient. However the intel cpu is not .

  • Doesn’t seem like there is much stock.

  • Curious how would this go running league of legends/cs and other lighter games like roblox?

I presume in general this laptop would get hella hot and noisy woth the fans

As an apple fan boy if i didnt get myself a macbook a year ago and still needed a laptop this would be a no brainer

Wouldnt mind selling the macbook for this and some extra cash on the side really…

Would be great for movie consumption

    • running league of legends/cs and other lighter games like roblox?

It'll be more than fine. You don't need a dGPU to play those titles these days.

  • +1

C&c the last one in Mentone VIC

  • This is a serious question:

Would this be good to mount Linux on (not dual booting) so I could learn Linux / devops / data engineering / basic networking principles.

I already have a windows desktop using WSL2.

    • Why not just dual boot?

    • Would this be good to mount Linux on (not dual booting) so I could learn Linux / devops / data engineering / basic networking principles.

      No, way over spec

You do not need an OLED screen and RTX GPU to do those things

Any of the sub $700 laptops from these deals will be fine - AMD and Intel iGPU's are well supported in Linux:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/813219
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/813228

    • Overall yes. But check that the 4GB vram is enough for whatever tools you're using for data engineering.

      • +1

        It's 6gb isn't it?

        • +2

my bad, gpt told me it's 4gb

  • haha I knew this was going to be a killer deal, but I went to sleep instead of jumping on it lol

I am not getting one (have a 4k 14" machine for editing, it's IPS but super good, with i7-1260p 16 threads and 64GB ram plus 3050 Ti, 2tb SSD and I got it for $1.1k)

but for those who jumped on it, I sure hope oleds improved, this looks like Samsung panel, they have low frequency PWM on all brightness below 100%

I had an asus with 90hz 2.8k panel earlier this year and PWM was giving me headaches

    • +3

May I know what model you got?

  • +1

Ughhh I wish I had seen this in time!!! I've been looking for something just like this!!

    • Still in stock at select stores.

      • 8 hour round trip to Warrnambool is the closest I've seen so far…

      • Just bought one at Traralgon, but only said it had 1 in stock, so I'm guessing it's a default\display model and I won't actually get it. Waiting for confirmation but not expecting it to come thru.

        • Keep us updated.

          • @SvcKpc: Just called to confirm, a worker checked and said it's physically there for me and brand new in box. Success!

            • +1

@MrMcHairyHead: Nice, congrats. Just need to make the country trek now!

  • Anyone know a store in Melbourne with stock?

    • +1

You could try calling the Chadstone branch. I think they were the last ones to report stock.

      • Was able to snag one from Traralgon successfully!

  • C&C in Hobart TAS.. got a mate to pick up and ship.

  • +6

It is an Acer…. One of the most returned brands requiring repairs in my local repair shop. For those who ordered, see you soon.

    • That's super interesting.
Are they significant or minor? What are the main problems you are seeing?
Roughly what problem percentages are you seeing for the different brands?

  • +2

Just a warning they'll box up display stock. Mine came covered in dust and had clearly been reboxed.

    • Well, if that's what I get it'll be an easy return.
A lot of these have sold over the past 9 hours. They can't ALL be display models.

  • +2

As good as this deal is, after using a ThinkPad laptop keyboard, I can't stand any other keyboards. :(
And I heard Acer is not that reliable of a brand…? I'm still going on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 3.

  • By looking at Notebook check review, the USB C ports are infact Thunderbolt 4 as well (massive plus). Casing is aluminium (great) and keyboard is apparently great as well. There's no second storage and ram is soldered in as well (negatives). Biggest negatives are worse fan (throttling and poor performance for specs) and PWM on the screen (not good for sensitive eyes). But for the price I think it's great value laptop.

  • +1

    Acer is absolute dog sh.it

  • +6

Picked up mine last night from Officeworks. It's perfect for my 15 year old for school next year. He loves the OLED Display, Keyboard is good. I also got 3 year upgrade warranty because it's gonna be used everyday at school. Fans noise is noticeable ( He installed windows 11 pro on to it) but he is not worried. USB C charging is standard via thunderbolt. Has 2 USB A ports and another USB C Port. I originally paid $1397 online on Monday morning and they informed me it was ready for pick up on Tuesday night. While I was waiting for them to get the laptop from out the back, I noticed it had dropped to $997 in store. The guys at Chirnside park were great and repriced it to $997. Very happy with my purchase and will be cheaper than the devices the school will suggest and much higher spec'd.

    • Thank you for the real life comments! Any chance you can try video out over usb-c? (Notebookcheck said hdmi only?) And does the Fan Modes make any difference to noise? But anyway fan noise not too bad in your opinion? 🙏

    • The real question, did you use the Ultimate gift card for extra 10%?

    • I also got 3 year upgrade warranty

Good move! A must for any Acer laptop as they prone to fail

  • Anyone have have warranty experience with Acer, how is their service compare to Dell or Lenovo?

  • Would the screen be better than nitro 16.

    • Far better. It's not even close.

  • NVMe replaceable with 4TB?

  • OMFG!!!

  • Guys! No stock near me. Went to my nearest store, just pick up the display model from Taren Point,NSW. Come with 100W factory charger. Guys, if you want to buy it, you have to get in the shop yourself! Originally, want to get nitro 16 with Ryzen5 7640HS and 4050, saw this ozbargin MacBook killer post and get this MacBook killer with no regret. Planning to do TRS for 10% in January

  • How is the deal compare to this one?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/811766

Ordered last night and ready for collect, I also bought the Lenovo, haven’t been opened yet, need to return one.

    • +1

This is much much better. OLED 120Hz. Has dedicated GPU instead of integrated GPU.

      • Great, thanks for the advise I’ll return the Lenovo

  • How does this compare on Amazon for $1274? MSI Thin GF63 12VF-435AU 15.6-Inch 12th Intel i5-12450H NVIDIA RTX 4060 16GB DDR4 Ram 512GB SSD Gaming Laptop

    • +2

This Acer isn't a gaming laptop? We don't know what your use case is so this could either be a much worse or better option than that MSI.

Are you gaming? MSI. No/light gaming? Acer.

      How does this compare

There's so many differences I don't where to start… each have plenty of their own advantages and disadvantages.

    • That's a gaming laptop, the screen quality, build quality, keyboard and trackpad on this Acer laptop is far superior than the MSI, that particular MSI model has a complete plastic build, the screen's max brightness is 220 nits which is very dim, the colour accuracy is atrocious and the hinges of the screen is prone to fail, the graphics card on the MSI will perform better, but not by a lot.

  • looks like none left in WA

  • Just got a call from officeworks, I had a confirmed pickup order for tomorrow but they don't have stock. Was refunded.

  • Thanks Op for posting the deal. Purchased yesterday for Click and Collect confirming that can collect today. But today got a text saying the order is delayed - look at the email. The email said that the order is cancelled due to no stock and the refund will be processed. And now I cannot purchase online anymore. What a bummer. Received no call from the store either. If I had known that the store didn’t have stock I would have purchased online last night. And now I have no laptop, no money and cannot purchase online. Called both the store and the fulfilment centre and both blamed the system glitch and gave me the only option to drive to the Warrnambool store as they do not transfer stock between the stores.

    • Yeah people were reporting a glitch with stock not being automatically updated early in the morning. They were always likely to have problems fulfilling orders.

  • Fantastic deal for what it is

I got the rog strix g16 from JB for $2100

    Black friday been so good

  • +2

I got a floor stock model from the Keswick store in S.A.

Paid $900. Has a great screen, and surprisingly light weight. It had a lot of price sticker adhesive on it, but it cleaned up fine.

    • Hey, tried to send you a message. Did you return the laptop? I purchased the display from Keswick. Noticed BIOS was latest too. Thought it was a bit odd.

  • Noob question. Why so many upvotes?

Even if this is targeted to creators, everyone is or will be using AI to create these days, and RTX3050 seems rather low for AI software if running locally?

    • -3

      Why so many upvotes?

OLED screen for the $$$ and that's it
I've had many Acer laptops and they're all turned out to be rubbish eventually.

Enjoy the glamorous OLED panel whilst it works and under warranty

      • Nervous about Acer quality, but it's not just the fantastic high refresh rate old screen, it's also the not bad graphics power in a portable $1k laptop that's not plastic and heavy like cheap gaming laptops, and has good webcam, keyboard, trackpad and fingerprint reader.

        • It's definitely good value for money no doubt! You're not going to get these specs (even close) for this price. However I would highly recommend a 3 year extended warranty if you can IMO.

      • +1

Ah ok the OLED makes sense

  • I just bought an Asus Vivobook 16x with a 12450H and a 3050 for around 1200$. It isnt OLED and also lacks some features like a backlit keyboard. Would it be worth switching?

    • I would stick to the Asus IMO. The OLED screen is gorgeous but IMO Acer units are a poorer quality. There is a reason why they are cheaper. It is not this unit, however I have recently purchased a second hand Nitro 5 RTX3060 for cheap and it is plasticky and cheap quality. My bin has already a reservation for the future (or a Gumtree/FB not working/parts only ad) as I have factored its junk quality. Good value for money? 100% .. while it lasts

      • +1

Ok thanks for the reply. 👍

      • Lol you have been seething about Acer non-stop across these comments bro.
All brands have variation between good and not so good quality builds. With HP you have the good quality Elitebooks and Envys, and the worse quality Pavilions. With Dell you have the good quality Latitudes and XPS, and the worse quality Inspirons. With Lenovo you have the excellent Thinkpads, and the not-so-excellent Ideapads and their worse internal design.

All "gaming" laptops like Nitros are by default more than likely to have questionable internal design compared to laptops like the Swift X or other creator notebooks. The plastic chassis alone will likely cause problems down the line.

The Acer Swift X has excellent build quality (aluminium chassis, samsung OLED panel, actual good keyboard). It is much less likely to fail than something like a Dell Inspiron, or almost any Asus Laptop.

        • -1

Don't care what you think brooooo…..
They are junk and that's going by my experience and opinion cuz. Go check a review of your high quality Swift X OLED artefact from OW
Please provide me with a downvote. All good

Acer Swift X 14 review: fast but not long-lasting

          • -1

@vinni9284: The "not long lasting" is referring to the battery life. It's already well known battery life is one of the weaknesses on this laptop, and one of the tradeoffs for being so well-specced.

Next time try actually reading your own links, my illiterate friend.

            • +1

@SvcKpc: I have worked on laptops for many years, motherboard replacements, RAM upgrades, GPU fans, MXM card replacements, BGA reball … etc all the major brands. The most crappy brand with issues i've experienced is the Acer.
P.S battery weakness is quite common due to an efficient CPU hence using less power. Therefore, to save costs, the battery is reduced hence bragging 'lightweight'

Let me know how you go after the warranty has expired

    • The Acer is far better value than that. It's not even really close.

If you can't get the Swift X anymore, I would wait for a good Omen/Legion deal.

  • Bought the laptop today, can someone tell me what is laptop material make from? plastic or aluminium?

    • Aluminium.

  • Snagged the last one from Parafield earlier, cheers OP!

  • Anywhere available in vic?

  • I was considering a jetstar classic reward trip to TAS to pick up the deal from Perth lmao.

  • man, what a disappointment. the staff took a used acer swift go and put on hold while i called this morning. needless to say, no stock when i turned up.

  • +1

There was one on display at the Cranbourne Store, not sure if they’d do a deal on it if last one?

    • -1

I got my display one with fully price, no box , no manual, only the laptop and cable. But my one is 99% new condition, hardly see scratches, no OLED burn in issue. I did ask for discount for display model without luck, it is totally up to you, if you don't take it, others will.

  • Officeworks update my order, it's on the way.
    Delivery by toll.

    • "Team Global Express" now.

  • -2

Any laptop this cheap is bad. But this cheap
+ Acer = mega bad . Do not buy Acer laptops

    • +2

Any laptop this cheap is bad

      Dumb logic you have there.
You wouldn't be a mactoddler by any chance?

      • -2

No, I just don’t buy cheap laptops- you get what you pay for.

        • +3

This just tells me you don't know what you're talking about.

  • Been doing Microsoft word, PDF, usage for CPU and IGPU are use only 2% each, memory: 54%, laptop on silent and battery saver mode, 3050GPU temp: 36 degrees, but the fan is on all the time, pretty annoying, can we do some speed adjustment for the fan? Or any other solutions?

    • Did you try Fn + F? That's supposed to control the fans. Try putting it on silent mode.

      https://store.acer.com/en-au/swift-x-14-windows-11-home-inte…

      • I was on silent mode for 2 hours but fan still on. just changed from silent to normal mode, found fan speed is lower then silent mode

        • Also remember to adjust browser settings to be power efficient.
Use Edge instead of Chrome, and turn on Efficient Mode under "System and performance" in the settings.
Try to disable as many unecessary background processes as you can. Even if CPU usage is low sometimes that is misleading.
You can also try configuring the RPM in the BIOS, but from what I understand Acer laptops have limited BIOS configurability. No idea if updating the BIOS will change anything, although it's probably unlikely.

    • Also set power mode in windows to "Best power efficiency".

      • I did put battery saver mode, silent mode, best power efficiency. Should I update BIOS, laptop build date is May 2023

        • Mine came with Bios 1.04. I updated it to 1.51 and this did seem to change the way the fans work.

Two of the bios versions have comments relating to thermal issues:

1.07: "1. Update EC for battery setting 2. Optimize for thermal setting"
1.08: "Update EC for thermal optimization"

I also could see Windows File Indexer service using up 15 - 20% of the CPU when I first started the laptop.

  • still in stock?

    • You have to call up and check. Try Chadstone.

  • Ordered online yesterday - was shipped last night and awaiting delivery

    • It was unavailable online in Sydney. How did you order?

  • Whats a good laptop to buy for my father?

In his 80's, computer illiterate, im thinking touch screen is preferable.

    • Would a base level iPad with keyboard case be easier for him to use?

  • +1

Actually ring around your nearby stores.

Showing Out of stock at Southport store, but called yesterday afternoon, and physically checking stock they still had their display model which they would discount to $897 if I wanted it. - Hell yes! :)

Not a mark on it and, yep, that screen is georgeous

    • Congratulations to you!!! That what I did at my local store as well, grab the display is your last option and ask for discount. Unfortunately, no discount on display model when asked, but still happy for full prize.
