How about rewards for people who can’t afford to pay for their purchases in one payment and don’t need to go into debt with PayPal?

    • Just buy a BWS gift card with pay in 4 and get some xmas booze that you'll be buying anyway.

    • +7

You get nothing, good day sir.

    • Good news, that means you don't need a $10 handout

  • Can we buy something for $1?

  • +71

Should clarify that there is a very limited number of merchants (and timeframe) where the $10 PayPal Reward can be used

Once received in a Valid Account, the Reward will automatically be applied the first time that you checkout with PayPal during the Redemption Period at one of the following Australian online stores: Adidas, Adore Beauty, Baby Bunting, BCF, Crocs, Fila, Lenovo, Michael Hill, MyDeal, PetBarn, Puma, Scorptec.

“Redemption Period”: Starts on the day an Eligible Participant receives their Reward in their Valid Account and ends on 31 December 2023. To avoid doubt, Reward must be redeemed or used no later than 11:59:59 p.m. AEDT on 31 December 2023.

You can only use the credit at selected merchants, credit expires Dec 31.

"You can use this PayPal reward for your next PayPal purchase at one the following Australian online stores: Adidas, Adore Beauty, Baby Bunting, BCF, Crocs, Fila, Lenovo, Michael Hill, MyDeal, PetBarn, Puma, Scorptec"

  • Only for people who use pay in 4 first time?

  • +8

Not worth the credit entry IMO

    • -2

repaying credit on time improves your score. Sometimes helps you balance out your monthly expenses when you can't resist the sale, as long as you do not purchase items outside of your budget

      • +1

The credit score is a black box, but in Australia the whole get credit pay on time doesn't seem to really improve your score that much (if at all) but having a credit entry from a BNPL is bad

Also your response sounds like ChatGPT lol

        • People who pay their credit cards on time every month are known as "deadbeats" in the credit industry. They earn the companies very little money on transaction fees compared to users who carry a balance/accrue interest.

        • Interesting - though if i check websites like creditsavvy and clearscore, i dont see any BNPL queries only loan/other repayments. Can this be checked somehow ?

          • +2

@patadi: Personally I use WISR (which is free - not an endorsement, I'm sure they sell your data or something lol) - But you can get credit reports for free from Equifax and Experian directly periodically as well

      • This. Use paypal in 4 all the time as it smooths out payments for things. Zero interest so its absolutely fine if you manage your expenditure.

        • Not arguing for or against BNPL - Just that taking up PayPals BNPL which leaves a credit entry isn't worth a $10 coupon

          • +2

@rickdwp: Depends if you have any major borrowing planned. Even negative entries (e.g. missed home loan repayments) are only relevant for two years. If a few small paypal in 4 arrangements where you paid on time are going to be the difference, I'd suggest your odds weren't that good in the first place.

    • Pay in 4 does not guarantee a credit check. PayPal may or may not do one.

    • I activated but but then saw the stores… lame…

      Thought it was $10 credit

  • +4

Paypal pay in 4 will be considered a Buy now pay later liability when you apply for any loan in the future. It might affect your credit score and reduce your borrowing capacity, not worth for $10

    • Like Afterpay, there’s no credit enquiry ran (unlike Zip and some of the banks BNPL). From memory these transactions from PayPal come through as just normal PayPal transactions.

      • +2

That's not true, PayPal pay in 4 does hit your credit

        • +1

It may not show on your credit file but it will show on your statements.

Brokers and banks will ask if you have any BNPL debt and these BNPL debt needs to be paid in full and a letter from the company needs to be issued to give to the banks.

I had to close my afterpay and afterpay generates an automated letter for you to give to the broker or bank starting it's fully closed and balance is $0 owing.

      • It probably won’t show on the credit report but will show up on your bank statement as paypay pay in 4 transaction and lender will verify and add it as a liability

      • PayPal state they may carry out a credit check.

    • +1

Given that it is short term and generally low value, I doubt it makes much difference unless you actually fail to make any payments.

    • +1

Didn't affect my home loan with Adelaide Bank for $800,000 at all. They did ask for Zip and Afterpay to be closed. No mention of Pay in 4 whatsoever

      • Similar experience here with my recent home loan application

      • They ask you to close your afterpay to get a home loan?

        • They asked for me to confirm if my Zip/AfterPay was closed and if not (which was the case for my AfterPay) provide an account statement.

      • Kind of pointless given you can just reopen as soon as the loan goes through.

        • The banks take your current financial snapshot as gospel. It's dumb.

  • Doesmt work for me tried always having me unble to offer this payment method, must be targeted

  • Is there cedit hit with paypal pay in 4?

    • yes if you miss payments according to this https://mozo.com.au/buy-now-pay-later/articles/how-does-payp…

      • +1

If you miss payments then yes there should be a hit. like with any debt. If you don't you should be absolutely fine despite some of the scare mongering you see.

    • +1

Yes it appears as "PPC PAY in 4" under 'Credit Enquiries'

    • There might be
PayPal tell you what happens "if" they do one.

  • +1

Yeah credit check is worth far more than $10

  • How do you know if you've done a Pay in 4 Purchase? I can't remember if I've done one or not lol

    • +1

Login in to your Account and go to Activity, and type pay in 4 in search box. You might want to change yr to verify.

  • Can you buy gift card with Prezzee and Pay in 4 with PayPal?

Edit: Oh just read it can only be used at certain stores, not anywhere PayPal is accepted :(

  • did get email for it, is that targeted ?

  • +1

Lol at people worried about credit scores

Like you live in the US or something

    • They say it like having a good credit score to sign up for all time high interest rates is a desirable thing

      • +1

Even record high interest rates beats the shit out of renting

        • In most cases that's right, unless you default on your loan or are forced out of your job due to unforseen circumstances like in 2021, definitely always has been a risk but that risk has only become greater for multiple reasons.

          • @lookingforadeal7: Yeah but in those circumstances you can call the bank and in most cases work something out. Landlords on the other hand will have you out on your ass as soon as legally possible

      • -1

We are nowhere near "all time high interest rates", not even halfway there!
The current rates are around average.
They just feel high coming off an actual "all time" low.

  • +2

A bit silly you can only use the credit at selected stores, kind of pointless otherwise

  • +2

    Useless.

It is just a $10 off ad for Adidas, Adore Beauty, Baby Bunting, BCF, Crocs, Fila, Lenovo, Michael Hill, MyDeal, PetBarn, Puma, Scorptec.

  • +1

Did it thinking $10 PP credit, now sad its some useless voucher.

  • I couldnt pay in 4 at adidas

  • Wish VicRoads would accept pay in 4.

  • They say "millions of online stores", which stores though?

  • What if you buy a $30 e gift card from jb hi fi and do a pay in 4 will you qualify?

  • How do you actually use the offer? Tried to checkout at Petbarn and it looks like it will charge my CC the full amount. In the PayPal account it says to click on USE OFFER to be redirected to the store's website … where is this button. It's only showing a graphic of the button you're supposed to click. Help!

    • I had the exact same issue and after contacting PayPal they have given me a $10 voucher to use before June next year at anywhere that accepts PayPal. Obviously there’s a problem with their promo.

      • +1

Thank you. Actually I also did same as i didn’t see any responses here and they did exact same thing. It’s even better - can use anywhere and expires Jun 24 instead of end of this year.

    • Same here, unable to claim with BCF online

  • +1

I haven’t received the voucher yet.

    • Neither! Not sure how the voucher is sent to us?

      • The voucher just appears in your paypal wallet, no notification.

Then when you go to make a purchase (from the selected stores) using paypal, it comes up as a promotional discount to use

  • You will need to ring them up and they will give you a voucher as above
