Would this handle 4k video playback on a tv, that I source from the high seas?

    • +12

You pirated a whole TV? Man I gotta step up my game!

But yes, this is a good processor and integrated graphics are great on these, playback would be fine. If you're looking for something as a Plex server you're generally better off with an Intel unit.

      • Just purely need it for USB playback, so guessing can go even cheaper with something like this then?

        https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CGZW8R5L/ref=sspa_dk_detail_6…

        • Can't you just plug a hard drive directly to your TV?

          • @serpserpserp: it's a 7-8 year old 4k tv, the processor on it can't handle 4k, fullHD is fine though

            • @tightm8: If you want 4k processing you are much better off getting a nas, at least you can populate it with alot of storage as well.

              • @garetz: Any suggestions/recommendations on a NAS setup?

                • @tightm8: whats your budget.

                • +2

@tightm8: If you're up for it, you can make your own NAS better and cheaper than a prebuilt one.

I've just ordered that Trigkey N100 PC you linked (https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0CGZW8R5L) and a 5 bay DAS (https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0BD4Z4XQD); and will put Unraid on it.

                  • @LeifAlbor: I like your style looks at newly delivered DAS and waits for Mini PC
They both seem yo offer pretty good value. Although I might stay with OMV. Not sure yet.

                    • @namgib: Yeah I haven't ruled out OMV either. Both are good options.

                  • @LeifAlbor: Hey - Unraid can’t use the usb3 DAS for its parity protected array - but you can use it as a non array device - but there will be no parity protection.

                    • @riff.79: Thanks for the heads up. It's only being used for multimedia storage anyway, so I'm not too concerned 😁

                • @tightm8: Probably the same as buying a new TV, those high sea colours would look trash on an 8 year old TV, upgrade it mate

    • Cheaper options with an Intel N95 or N100 will be fine for 4k video playback if that is all you need it for.

e.g. this mini pc with 16GB and N95 CPU for $216.71

or this one with 8GB and N95 CPU for $179.99 after $30 coupon is checked

    • this can handle 4k video but netflix disneyplus those are not working well on PC

Ordered thanks OP. Will this case fit the 3080TI 12GB?

    • It only fits the 4090. :) Do you have an angle grinder?

      • Plenty room then if it fits 4090

  • This is a bargain and with 6 cu it's just enough to play in hd platform games and older games. Shame therea not a bare bones unit as well for like 250 or something.

  • The minisforum 4800H is a better deal for less than 275 aud. It is barebones though. So it depends on WIWTY

    needs 16 gb la

  • +2

Got the 16G + 500G variant for $340 last month. Great little PC and perfect for home office/study use.

  • What operating system goes ok on these? Do they need a windows retail licence?

    • +1

      Fedora Bluefin.

      Everything goes okay, lol.

    • +2

You only need a windows license if you want to do a few "pro" things like RDP into your machine or use HyperV. Pretty much everything else apart from desktop customization works flawlessly forever without activating windows.

  • Any reason shouldn't go for the N100 for$50 less? Just interested in browsing and office apps for mum

  • 8 gig ram for windows?

  • +2

Been looking at 16GB/500GB N100s for around $230. This would be much better. Only 8GB of RAM though

But then I think I may as well add another $200 and get https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0CH1149R7 :D

    Which is a 5800H 32GB/1TB

    • Wow that went up quick. Better make it another $300-! Price showing $538-.

      • I meant another $200 on the one in the OP :)

    • This one has a coupon (but only 512 SSD) to bring it down to $486

      • Yeah, saw that. $52 more for an extra 512GB, possibly not worth it. Could put that $52 towards a better 1TB or bigger

I don't even need one of these things, they just look like fun things to tinker with :)

  • Are any of these mini PCs good for light couch gaming? I'm going back to PC gaming and want something to replace my Xbox for big screen controller games like Hades, Into The Breach, emulation etc.

    • I'm not sure if I would recommend 8gb version for gaming. It's fine for the oldies which just need it for browsing one tab at a time and YouTube

Get the slightly more expensive one linked in description if you want to play games on it

      • Considering the igpu in it, 8gb ram is likely enough. It being single or dual channel will be the bigger factor. Unless you're playing factorio, then you'll need 64gb ram lol

  • Am I crazy or did these Chinese Mini PCs used to include Windows 10/11?

    • As far as I know, they still do

      • Did they change their descriptions? Windows is conspicuously absent.

I would be happy to be wrong through.

        • +1

The description for the N100 includes W 11 pro FWIW

  • Reasons I like this mini:

    5560 has Zen3 cores
2 RAM slots can use dual channel
5560U is low power, and subsequently lower cooling requirements (and hopefully less noise)
WiFi/BT module is M.2 and can be swapped out (e.g. for better one, M.2 GPU adapter, M.2 2.5G LAN etc)

    Here is a review

Concerns/limitations which unfortunately meant I did not get this one:
    1. It looks like the type-c port is data only and does not support a display (dealbreaker for me unfortunately)
    2. I remember hearing of a bug in beelink Ser5 where when the pc went to sleep, the fan would go to max speed.
    3. I think the 5560 has the older Vega 7 graphics (like the 4800H)

    • @repeat - have you found any similar mini-PC that have more than one type-C port and/or supports a display?
I'm after one that supports external display too!

      • +1

For dual USB-C in the sub $400 range:
On Amazon, the $399 Minisforum UM480XT has 2 USB-C, one does the display, as well as a $259 T9/W6 rebranded from Amazon JP

On Aliexpress there are N100 T9 (Black) and W6 (white) mini pc with two USB-C at the back as well as dual HDMI, so those ones support quad displays.

For single USB-C display, there are plenty of Ryzen 5600/5800 that support display over USB-C, as well as theN100 Beelink EQ12/Trigkey G5

      • genmachine is suppose to support both data and display from type-c

i posted the 5800u barebone variant as that's what i personally thought was the best value but there are plenty of chip, ram and storage options

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/816967

    • I did just notice this page and this listing where they say the Ser5 5560U has display out via USB-C, so maybe they revised it?

    • type-c display - i just posted one

plenty of CPU options with it

  • +1

I grabbed the 16GB version of this off eBay a few months back for ~$230. Amazing little machine.

This is still a really good deal and the RAM is upgrade-able for those that want to go 16GB.

  • +2

Has anyone else had an issue with one being delivered without RAM and SSD?

I had one for work recently with an i5 which we just now turned on and no POST or display, opened it up and there’s no RAM or SSD, I’m not even convinced there was a CPU but just initiated a return, see how it goes I guess.

Still waiting for mine from this (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/813244) to be delivered next week :(

    • +1

I feel bad buying this one after seeing the dollar difference

      • no need to. this is much better than what i bought. my plan is to have a try on that cheap unit. if it is good for what i want, i may buy a better one to kinda replace my desktop for genreal stuff like ms office, you tube…

    • -4

got negged by a retard for… what? lmao

      • +1

        Jealousy

  • Wish mini pcs got DP 2.0 or HDMI 2.1, would be a killer PC for game streaming to TVs.

    • cant you just use a firestick for that?
