This movie sits No 1 on my list!

    • +7

Time is not important, only life.

    • +5

Because it is still big bada boom!

  • Thanks, got one.

  • +13

    $30 is a bargain?

    • +6

If you did any research, you'd know, yes it is a bargain.

      • +1

I've researched and still don't know how this is a bargain.

        • +6

but at the same time if I posted it as "Free to stream on SBS" it would get way more whining and complaints.

btw justwatch au is a great place I use to quickly check where any film is available for stream/rent in australia. https://www.justwatch.com/au/movie/the-fifth-element

also the stream field changes regularly because streaming services are always adding and removing movies from their services.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Thanks for the insight on that website, I’d not heard of it before, really helpful to find movies!

          • @harshbdmmaster718: It is technically a French film, probably how SBS can get away with playing it so often.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Justwatch is great. Though fifth element with ads? Ick.

I only buy 4K blurays nowdays as the pic / sound is better than any streaming (this is with top tier nbn and 4k streaming)

        • +4

The average price to import this from the UK is $50+. This Studio Canal version has never been released in Australia.

          • +1

@Magical Sound Shower: "This Studio Canal version"

you're talking about different versions of the movie and it's only available from overseas? ok looks like I am in the wrong place here.

I am just happy with the FULL movie (and sometimes the occasional directors cut). and I admit SBS on demand does cut some movies. I have watched the movies before on sub/rent and there are shots missing from the SBS versions.

            • +1

@harshbdmmaster718: Hi harshbdmmaster718, it is the same cut of the film AFAIK.

The Studio Canal release has superior picture quality compared to the (out of print) locally released version by Madman in 2018.

              • @Magical Sound Shower: "The Studio Canal release has superior picture quality compared to the (out of print) locally released version by Madman in 2018."

sure I getya. picture quality must matter if you are watching at 4K. my TV is capped at 1080p so it would be wasted on me.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: Given your TV you could make the same argument about any 4k disc - this product just isn't for you is all.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: Fifth Element has been reissued on DVD and HD so often it's really hard to keep track of which is the latest/best version.

          • @Magical Sound Shower: by the way if you are a movie geek, can you answer a question for me?

at the end of Apocalypse Now (directors cut I think, well it's definitely in the directors cut not sure about theatrical). they filmed a real cow being hacked to pieces with machetes right? I mean that was probably fine back then to film that sort of thing and release it in a blockbuster movie. but I swear it's real, no special effects.

            • +3

@harshbdmmaster718: Yes, it wasn’t part of the script but the locals were doing it anyway, so Coppola filmed it.

              • @Randolph Duke: thanks randolph I believed my eyes weren't deceiving me but it helps that you confirmed it. 👍

                • +2

@harshbdmmaster718: Yes slaughtering a water buffalo was (and still is) a common thing to celebrate a big occasion such as a marriage, child's graduation, big movie rolling into town, etc.

          • +1

@Magical Sound Shower: Now that was the answer I was after. Thanks.

    • +4

I'd buy that for a dollar.

      • +4

Deal or alive, you're coming with me.

        Oh wait…

no matter what, The Fifth Element is always an upvote

  • +10

As a teen I didn't think much of it. Would adult me get something that teen me didn't?

    • +7

Even re-watching The Simpsons as an adult you will get a lot of things you missed when you were a kid :)

        • +2

          Open your miiinnd!

        • Meh

    • +2

      No

    • +2

No, I watched it only recently and did not understand the hype.

    • It's just a goofy movie, Saturday morning cartoon vibes to it. Just happens to be crafted in a very rewatchable way. The director was apparently obsessed during the production, he was certain that it was going to be something very special. Was paranoid and secretive during production.

  • +4

It's also currently free to watch on SBS on demand (obviously not 4k).

    • Last 12xmonths they had film back to back to back to back to… Back!!

      • +1

Six times in a row last time

  • Are region's still a thing? Will i need an EU 4k Player?

    • +3

Not for almost every uhd disc

    • No, 4K/UHD discs are not region locked (while blurays are)

  • +1

The movie release when I wss born.. now I have kids!!! Anyways, great movie.

    • +4

I thought that was our little secret

  • +3

One of my all time favourites, the timing and memorable one liners in this make it almost perfect. Big badda boom!

  • +4

Negative, I am a meat popsicle

  • +4

    Gimme the caaash!!

    • +2

      That's a very nice hat

  • +6

    Endlessly rewatchable.
Still looks great over 25 years later, don’t think there’ll ever be something like it again.

  • +6

Just as a point of difference - this version has an Atmos track whereas the other 4K edition (and standard BD) doesn't

  • Did amazon change their policy regarding 3rd party sellers? According to multiple cs support reps, you can't exchange damaged items from 3rd party sellers anymore. However, there's no mention of this on amazon site

    • can't exchange damaged items from 3rd party sellers

Wouldn't that be inconsistent with the ACL?

      • Yup, theyll still try to pull it, but when you talk to support staff and remind them youre aussie, ive always had them change tune without further drama.

  • +5

Great movie but 30 bucks, got to be kidding

    • another user says it's somekind of "studio canal version" gemstone of a copy. I don't know enough to know for sure, but I assume it's a good price because if you wanted to you could watch it and sell it on for double the price.

      • +1

Who would buy it double when it's $32 normally on Amazon UK? lol

        • +2

it's $32 normally? so this deal with 43 votes is only $1.33 off?? what's with all the "great price" comments then?

          • +1

@harshbdmmaster718: Well 32.77 to be exact as shown on Amazon

            • @FeZZa21: "as shown on Amazon"

you mean 3x camels price history right?? because "normal" price would be how much it normally sells for.

  • Chicken; good!

  • -1

Great movie. Great price. Watch this with surround sound and be amazed.

    • +1

is it a pass if one only has a stereo setup?

      • +5

        Well it doesn’t sound like a multi-pass

  • Love this movie and always watch the SBS marathon. Shame that this release is barebones with no special features.

  • +2

    This deal is super green!

  • +3

I don't want one position, I want ALLLLLL positions

I've lost track of how many times i've watched this. One of my all-time favourite movies.

    • +3

      Mr Rhod!

  • +7

Leon The Professional 4K UHD also available for $32.06

    • Natalie Portman's first movie, crazy!!!

      • +1

Like watch Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun, you knew they were going to be superb actors. Same with Dunst in Interview with a Vampire.

  • +1

Thank you! Great price for the Studio Canal release. I bought one.

  • +2

Korben my man! Oh my god, Korben!

I still f***n love this movie so much!!

  • +1

    My favourite movie!

  • Anyone know if we gonna get Titanic 4k and True Lies 4k discs in Australia?

    • +1

It’s unlikely, unless Pinnacle come through and take over Disney’s distribution. As of now, not looking good :(

    • All great titles. Not sure how old are you, but if you have kids, imagine their face when they first watching those movies when they grown up after watched too many Marvel movies.

    • I'm patiently waiting for true lies

    • You’ll need to import them

      • Yeah ordered titanic, true lies and aliens via rarewaves for $153 total delivered, ouch

  • 4K remux 76.09GB

  • +1

"Sir, are you classified as human?"

    • +2

      negative, i'm a meat popsicle

  • +2

I’m too lazy to buy physical discs anymore but I can appreciate the value in it, as per Nolan’s remarks.

  • +1

I just rewatched it after seeing this post. It's still such a great movie, not many films can stand the test of time and this does. I cannot wait to to watch it in 4K Dolby Atmos.

  • Kinda annoying, just cancelled my Amazon prime

  • +3

Beautiful transfer! Also I know you just grabbed the tech specs from the page, but it’s actually 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The 1.78:1 exists but not physically as far as I’m aware.

  • Times are tough atm, just torrent this lads. Search 'remux' for complete original copy

  • +4

    For those who dont know,

This movie shows 5 times in a row yearly. On the 5th of the 5th, starting at 5pm, on SBS.

    Its a wild evening.

    Review

Summary if you cannot afford the original 35mm film reel edition…. the 4k version is the best next thing to it.

    • Tah for the link,

I have the 2018 Madman 4K copy of this film and to see that there is an even better version.
      That was a quick buy!
