[VIC] Century NS60LS Car Battery $189 Fitted + Del ($0 in-Store/ to 15km of Store) + Call-out Fee (if Applicable) @ Battery Zone

420

Well it was finally time to replace the battery on my Corolla and found this to be the cheapest option.
I actually walked in as this was the only place open after 5 and was surprised at the price difference vs what I could find online. I was like what is the catch.

Still if you are looking for a new battery check out these guys.. Great service as well.

You might be right. Suspect it's still cheaper than this deal though. They've been remarkably cheap in my experience. They say they make money on volume.

        • Might be worth giving them a bell first before going there

  • Curious if such deals are applicable to EVs as well, since I think EVs run off a 12V or 16V smaller battery too.

      wtf?

Is your daily driver one of these? https://www.littleriders.com.au/ride-on-toys/motorised/12v/

      • Every car has a 12V battery including Teslas. I think the one in this deal actually fits a Model 3 (but don't quote me on that)

        • Ok, but if someone says they have an EV that "runs off" 12v that does make it sound like they have a toy car. (personally i wouldnt call that "running off")

I also wasnt being that serious….

        • Certainly don’t quote this guy. Many new Tesla use a 16V lion battery

          • @maxwellian: Yes, newer ones run at a slightly higher voltage, but this is still the correct battery for an Intel-based Model 3 which does use a 12v lead acid battery.

  • Any ideas where to sell the old battery for cash? I heard of discounts only, like this one, but not cash.

You'll get a few bucks from scouts recycling (in sa at least). They weigh them.

Be aware of the marketing on these. Touted as 'Australian' but the manufacturer is far from it. These are not made in Australia.

    • +1

I'm not sure I follow what you mean?

Century Yuasa are one of the few Australian based manufacturers of batteries - operating their manufacturing facility at Carole Park in Queensland (employing ~600 people). Are you suggesting the blue and yellow batteries by Century Yuasa are actually imported whole and have a sticker placed on them saying made in australia?

Where are these batteries made if not in Carole Park in QLD?

      • Bought one last week from Supercheap. My new all black one is made in Korea. The casing on mine was not to spec and is about 4mm shorter in height then my old yellow/blue Century. The battery bracket on my Yaris is only adjustable in height on one side, so I had to add a couple of pieces of right angle sheet metal under the bracket to properly secure the battery. Would have returned it but I didn't have a jump to start the car with the old battery.

        • You are correct, the new black ones are not made in Australia. Same warranty of course, similar badging, Made in Australia logo removed and now says Made for Australian conditions, whatever that means :).

The gold form ones still are of course. 11 out of the 51 odd form factors they sell are made in Korea now.

These are not made in Australia.

Despite the massive Australian made logo on the front? Souce?

"As a registered certification trademark, the Australian Made logo can only be used on products that are registered with the not-for-profit Australian Made Campaign Ltd, and which meet the criteria set out in the Australian Consumer Law and the AMAG Logo Code of Practice.

The rules for using the certification trade mark require that, in Australia, it must always be used with one of the following four descriptors: Product of Australia, Australian Made, Australian Grown, Australian Seafood or Australian (In export markets only)."

I drive pass their factory everyday.

Some/most are made here, not all are though. The rule of thumb with Century is if it's a yellow case it's Australian made, if it's a black one it's made overseas.

    • 10% website offers 15% sooo

  • How much do they normally charge for "battery fitting"? 😅

    • We don’t charge anything for any car, although Ford and many euro car do need quite an effort and time

      • Yeah, Ford is the worst when it comes to that. Why do they set it up that way? It's a hassle even if you just want to disconnect the battery for a few weeks for travel

  • I price beat a store on the other side of the country at SCA last month for $168.

    • How much does SCA price beat by? I couldn’t see details of their policy other than statements of price beat.

      • $1 apparently

  • Century better then supercharge?

    • Not sure of Supercharge but we have SSB which is similar to century but made in Korea

    • Supercharge is definitely superior

    • Supercharge have a longer warranty, higher CCA and are cheaper. Just depends if you want to support Australian made or not

Then supercharge what? Waiting for the rest of the story.

Costco also has Exides and has regular sales at large discounts for members, but don't install. A search on this site will find some of those sales for timing.

  • Why is a 45AH battery named 60?

    • Reserve capacity

      • So when discharged slowly it can give out 60AH?

  • I was in similar predicament earlier this year, old NRMA battery gave up the ghost and NRMA wanted $250 to install a new one. Grabbed an Excide/Marshall 60CMF 40Ah from Ebay $129 pickup in Sydney. Given its an older car intent is to save where I can.

  • If you need a decent batteries at sub $250 including fitting, Mitcham Tyre shop and Automotive is a good place. But need some patience with their way of running business.
