Normally they don’t price match Costco because Costco requires a membership

    • +3

They do price match I believe policy has changed recently for this. I got an iPhone price matched in the last 2 months

      • +2

depends on who you get at the counter maybe lol

        • +2

I mean I just called the local officeworks on the phone and they confirmed they will price match as long as the model number matches.

          • +1

@gunnerz: Thanks for that I’ve always been rejected because of the Costco thing I even show them that I have a membership but they still don’t care but like old mate said up top I think it comes to the fact which Officeworks you go to & who you get at the counter

        • That is probably accurate

Is the screen large enough for elderly people mainly use it for web broswing, email and youtube videos ? Is the bezel being a big problem when watching youtube videos (makng the screen smaller) ??

    • +4

Definitely my mum using it and she’s almost 70

    • +2

I think it would be better… gives them space to grip the tablet.

    • +2

Absolutely big enough for older people to use. The bezel is actually a plus for them too, allows them to grip the iPad by the bezel without covering the screen (or getting it too dirty).

My inlaws have used iPads for years, and they love it.

    • +1

Yep! Both my parents have this exact model each - and my dad is in his 80's. I think the home button on this model is probably a bit easier to use than the newer models as well

    • For something as simple as that - basically any iPad would do that runs iOS 16 or higher. Just save your $$$ and get a iPad 5 or 6 from Marketplace for like $150….unless obviously this is a gift.

      • I watched some youtube reviews that although this model uses a 2019 chip but it is still snappy and sturdy and apple will continue to roll out ios upgrade for the next few years for this model.
I wouldn't mind paying this price for something that will last long and I am always wary of second hand electronic products.
Thanks to everyone who put in their feedback, just want to say thank you to you all ! :)

I sold a perfectly functioning iPad to someone once, who demanded to return it the next day because it was non-functional and didn't work. I agreed and when I gave him back the money, he said obviously I was a crook and a cheat because I gave him back his money for a dodgy iPad. Turns out his company used some special industry specific overlay on their iPads. It worked perfectly for many years afterward.

  • all apps still can be used? I can't use alot apps, inclu youtube on my 10 yrs old ipad air anymore.. T.T

    • This can upgrade to latest ios 17 so all apps should work.

Anyone know what the available storage space is?

    • +9

      Yep I do

    • +5

      I know as well

    • +3

      me too

    • +5

After the OS, it’s prob about 50gb spare

    • +2

iPadOS 17 will reduce it by about a further 8-10GB

      https://piunikaweb.com/2023/09/20/ios-17-ipados-17-taking-up…

      • +2

It’ll replace the previous OS install which is about the same. So yeah, approx 50GB real world usage space.

        • Brand new iPad and people already worried about space after and during first OS update…

          applelife

          • @buffalo bill: Depends on use case. Sure you can get 1TB with SD card on a $120 Lenovo tab, but it’ll struggle opening the calculator app… if you just browsing, streaming, gaming (excluding Genshin - if you know you know), it’ll do the job just fine with a 64GB model. Are Apple stingy, of course. Do they offer the superior product for its purpose, absolutely.

      • I'm running IOS17 on my old iPad 6th generation with 32Gb total storage…. And I still have 17Gb space left.

I don't play games on it, it's mainly for streaming (Netflix, YouTube, Plex, tunein etc)

Confirming OW will price match this. Thanks OP!

    • Do you need to show proof of Costco membership?

      • Nope, just the online store

  • Hi All,

Just a question as a non costco member. when a non costco member browse the costco website does it show all the products that costco sell or only show limited items?

or does the costco website requires member log on to view the full range of products costco sells?

I hope i am clear enough on what i want to ask.

    Thank you.

    • It doesn't require login. You can try the link now.

      • I wanted to know if what ever it is shown in website, only those things are available or do they have more selection/ products if you visit warehouse. Thank you.

Lets say they sell dyson, roborock dreame vaccum in website. online. I was wondering if they would have other selection like as an example LG, Samsung, eufy vacuum etc as well in warehouse.

you know what i mean sometimes you need a login to view more selection of products i was wondering if that is the case with costco as well. they show limited items in website and in-store they have many other selections or after logging in you get more selection available.

        Thank you

    • the website products are a subset of what the warehouses sell.

      • I think its a superset. There are 391 watches currently on the Costco website & I don't see 391 watches in the Costco display case.

        • I wanted to know if what ever it is shown in website, only those things are available or do they have more selection/ products if you visit warehouse. Thank you.

Certain items don't show price until you login.

Online and stores are separate operations, though you can return things you bought online at a locate store.

Online has items not available in store and vice versa.

Online specials do not necessarily align with in store specials and vice versa.

Online price includes delivery, so they are usually $10 dearer, sometimes more, but can also be a lot cheaper due to dropship.

        • Yeah, the website is not a reliable representation of what's in store.

Best to go in person to check it out, but it will be nothing like walking into The Good Guys or JB Hi-Fi. :D

  • Confirming OW price beat the Costco price, just bought one myself.

  • Bought one 2 days ago from officeworks for $447 what can i do? can they still beat it by 5% (refund the difference)? or i need to refund and purchase again?

    • Just enjoy your iPad? Likely that the amount of embarrassment and time taken to go through this process is not worth $30

      • +3

Please surrender you OZbargain passport and report for re-education.

  • Any major differences between this and the 10th gen?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Picked one up from Epping VIC and Airport West VIC, with no issues.

Gen 9 iPad is good device for school use, stage 2 & 3 students.

Gen 10 is quite a bit more, with features not needed by primary students.

    • -2

Organisations and schools will be moving to iPad 10+ very soon if they haven't already and then that will be the minimum recommended.

Very few organisations will be issuing all new 9's when there is no commitment on updates past 2025.

      • -1

It's BYOD for schools, it's unlikely they will mandate the version of hardware.

Schools can set a minimum requirement on the OS, the current iPad OS 17 is backward compactible with Gen 6 iPad, released in 2018.

So I would say Gen 9 iPad has plenty of live in it.

If it is because of Gen 10 has UBS-C, that's a moot point anyway, students are usually not allowed to charge their devices at school.

In fact, Gen 9 having 3.5mm audio jack is more versatile.

        • Most of schools are not BYOD devices these days. Our kids are at one that supplies the primary shared class iPads and they stay at school because there are constraints in monitoring and locking down non-managed Pads. Wife works at a different school and its the same.

They are currently 9 but i was told they won't be making any more bulk purchases of 9's.

  • Just read that Costco docklands is going to shut down???

    • It's in a weird spot - trying to drive anywhere around the CBD is an absolute disaster, but it's not really possible to carry a Costco shop on public transport either. So you're stuck with the car and city traffic.

If you have a business dependent on cars, then I can't really think of a worse location than somewhere where all the roads are absolutely shafted.

    • And that is the only Costco I have visited outside of NSW. :D

  • NRMA (roadside) members can benefit from further 5% off ultimate gift cards. Along with the OW price beat you can get it down to $397.

Edit: Thanks Op, pulled the trigger purchased $450 worth of ultimate gift cards for $427.50 and got the iPad with cygnett screen protector for $447 and some chocolates 😅

    • 10% effectively at Cole’s atm

  • +1

Thank you op! Got it pw at officeworks.

  • Surprised OW haven’t price matched yet…

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/ipad-9th-g…

  • Price has dropped significantly since 2 weeks ago when price was around $537. Bugger.

  • +1

Can confirm Officeworks priced match with CostCo price, no issue. Plenty of them at Gawler Place.

  • Yes can confirm price match on the phone. Don't forget to use your Flybuys to earn points (10 x per $ spent at OW - targeted offer) to bring it further down.

  • would this be good for schoolwork?

  • I have ipad 2 and no apps works so it may be time to upgrade

  • +1

Just price beat at OW for 417$ and paid by Celebration gift card with 10% off (-41 $). OW gives 10x flybuys point thanks to Onepass and promotion (-20$). Creditcard that used to buy Celebration giftcard yield 3x point (-10$). To the end, it costs 346$. It is a good deal, i guess

    • -1

May I know where do you get the Celebration giftcard with 10% off and in order to get the 10xflybuys points, do I scan my flybuys that is linked to one pass, or the one pass card itself? (I already have onepass subscription). Thanks

      • +2

I got the gift card at Coles. Check their catalogue or you could look for Woollie catalogue. You need to scan the onepass linked with Flybuys
