Based on the trade in rates for iPhones the extra $300 just brings the tade in value up to what you'd get on marketplace or gumtree anyway.

Yup but saves you from getting mucked around and constantly responding to "is this still available?"

Good evening Roger, I am interested in this item.

What condition is the item and why are you selling it? And where are you located?

I am currently overseas but I am hoping you could hold it for me for a year so I can pick it up then.

Also do you accept PayPal? I am not comfortable with a cash trade. Also I will need a picture of your driver's licence.

          Looking forward to hearing back.

        What condition is the item?
I will pay by Pay ID. I am working offshore, I can have my junior brother collect the item?

        • +2

Currently working in the Navy offshore (and browsing GumTree…?) looking for a 5yo phone. I can have my hamster come pick it up and transfer the money?

          • @kamac93: If life be likened to an artist‘s canvas, I am dotting it with shades of green and golden. I cultivate the minds of nascent intellects and elderly flora, finding tranquility in their silent growth. Have you at any time stumbled upon a teaching instance outside of the academic enclosures? Perhaps amidst conversation or in the endeavor of aiding another?

        • had someone pushing hard for payid or paypal and sending in brother to collect the item, how this scam work out?

          • +2

@backupper1: @backupper1 you give your item to someone, then the buyer does a chargeback saying they never got the item. They claim you just gave the item to a stranger off the street. Which you did.
My response, if I ever bother, is tell the seller to transfer to their brother and have him visit an ATM on the way over.

            • @Deterrence: They will possibly say you have to pay some sort of tax and send you a dodgy email.

You will actually never get any money. I went though with it just for fun

            • @Deterrence: thats wild!

              • +1

@backupper1: Very common I encountered such scam. Immediately denied payid and asked the buyer turning up himself in cash. Then no more messages from the same person but then 10 mins later someone tried the same

Took off FB marketplace, back to eBay

            • @Deterrence: I don't think that's how it works

No one shows up because no one is silly enough to get their face on camera

But the chargeback is something possible if they send you something and then they ask you to send their money back and then they cancel their original payment

          • +1

            @backupper1: another variant:

"What is a PayID impersonation scam?

PayID impersonation scams often target people selling items on second-hand websites.
The scammer will push to buy your item using PayID, but then claim the transaction couldn’t be completed because you don’t have a PayID “business” account.
They’ll claim they’ve sent extra money to upgrade the account, send you a fake email as evidence and pressure you to reimburse them. But no money will ever appear in your account."

            • +1

@ShoeyAU: It's a bit of a shame, that payID technology in itself is now associated with scams. The technology itself was a way to protect the users from having to reveal their BSB/Acc as a guard against ID theft & incorrect transfers. Mechanically, the transaction is foolproof - you only give away a mobile or email, it verifies the recipient's name, and unlike paypal there is no dispute/recourse. As a seller this should be the best thing possible - money upfront no takebacks. Unfortunately, the stigma means that as soon as a buyer mentions payID the conversation is over.

      • +1

if you still have the item, can you send it to me and I will email you the money? I can pay cash.

        • Just take the cash out of the attachment in the email, it's easy!

      • Last price?

Where are you located (when its mentioned in the ad)?

    • +1

This is much better than you make it sound.
Selling on gumtree/marketplace is the absolute pits.

    • Don’t they hold the amount of trade in from your credit card until 4 to 6 weeks weeks after the lego phone you send in by auspost with no tracking for review?

    • Which is excellent, a store offering actual market value for your second hand item is nearly unheard of

  • -1

I cant see that bonus 300 on the system anywhere. Where do they show it ?

    • +1

Check the pixel 8 pro page

  • +3

Pixel 8 back to RRP after promos so still roughly the same after trade…
Decent for trade in for a pixel 7 258 $380+250

    • +8

Pretty good idea. Get pixel 7 128gb for $470, use for trade in get $350 + 250 ($600 total value) towards Pixel 8

      • Where do you get the pixel 7 for $470? Thanks.

      • 1200 + 470(paid for pixel 7) - 350 - 250 = 1070.
        Still a good deal.

    • can't see pixel 7 in the trade in list? what am i doing wrong?

      • nevermind, just needed to search

  • Anyone able to find a place where pixel 8/pro is well below RRP that Jbhifi would price match with?

Have looked but found nothing yet…

    • No sales atm, best price you can get right now is using 10% studentbeans unidays at google store.

Or use discounted gift cards at JB

      • Do we only have to choose between getting google credit or the studentbeans discount?

    • They offered me a 256 P8P for $50 less but not enticing enough to go through considering

"we're worried about Samsung new phones"

    • Google
    • Its no different to any other year , google have it over samsung with software support and camera's from what i can tell ..

      • I don't blame them. It's a smart time to market a deal.

    • +1

I’ve been using s23 ultra for almost a year and I can say samsung is not as good as my previous phone (Huawei P30 Pro). I can’t wait to get rid my s23 ultra but I don’t know what else is there. I used my P30 Pro for 3 years.

      • +1

Yes it really is a shame , they kept these two companies honest.

        • I still miss my P30 / Pro. Currently on a Pixel 7 pro… and doesn't quite match it. And it's too large and much worse on battery.

Maybe an Honor next? I've got a pixel 8 enroute now.

          • +1

@shankur: I might get a refurbed P30 pro simply for the 3D scanner, I bought a pixel 7 pro after being a huge fan of my 2 XL, safe to say I'm back on my 2XL after the 7 pro cracking.

            • +1

@lookingforadeal7: Yeah… I went p30. P30 pro. Then p30. Finally jumped across to pixel as I figured it had to be better given the years of progress. Underwhelmed.

Applies to the current range of flagships. No real innovation.

              • +1

@shankur: Yeah personally I think it's ridiculous Huawei could offer ToF sensors for 3D scanning yet no Android flagship phone does. I guess it's niche but Apple offers it and usually Apple is the one to take away features. If I could buy a brand new Pixel 2 XL with improved battery and camera but the same build I'd be stoked.

                • +2

@lookingforadeal7: If I could buy a Huawei Phone with full Google services support I would be stoked too.

          • @shankur: How are the flagship Oppo cameras?
Got a P30 Pro, screen recently cracked, dunno what to replace it with.

            • @spaij: Oppo find X5 and X3 pro household here.

              Better than Samsung..

      • I have a mate 20 and it's by far the best phone I've ever owned but a very very large way. Still can't replace it :(

      • There's still the huawei p60 pro but you'll need to source it from overseas and mod it for google services.

I used to be a Samsung fanboy, but was driven away by the bloatware. I got notifications telling me my storage was running out on a cloud backup system I didn't know I was using.

      • +1

This used to be more than 6 years ago. Since S7/S8 they come with very limited bloatware which you can't be uninstalled. One UI (now in its sixth iteration) is pretty snappy on newer Samsung Phones

      • Yeah it's crap and they run unnecessary duplicate apps you don't need.

      • I ditched them due to curved displays.

  • You can probably just not send the item in. Afaik the systems generates you an evoucher for the bonus value when you do the trade in, so you don't actually have to send the device in.

    • can confirm i did this 2 days ago when purchasing the new pixel 8. they offered 400$ for S22+, found someone yesterday who bought it for 475. So I wont be sending the phone in, the evoucher comes few minutes after you confirm the tradein value and get the egiftcard, then evoucher comes.

  • Anyone know if the extra 300bucks gift card can be used to purchase some other phone or is it tied to pixel 8 pro?

  • $1 trade-in for a Pixel 4a :-(

  • This looks like the recent black friday deal that generated a $300 coupon for pixel phones. You could just use the $1 samsung watch trade in (you don't need to have the watch) and get the coupon.

Back then it was an amazing deal because the phones were also cheaper. Pixel 8 was $999 and came down to $699 with this trade in coupon.

    Post for reference:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/812148

I got the Pixel 8 pro for $999 using this deal back in November.

  • +1

    lol $50 for a Pixel 5 trade in.. Yeah,nah.

  • +1

I'm guessing there's no such trade-in bonus to go towards an iPhone?

    • Sadly no. Expect one for S24 series in a few weeks tho

      • There's never really a bonus towards iPhone is there?
