18V ONE+ TWIN 5.0AH STARTER KIT
$299 at Bunnings. I spotted this Ryobi kit at Bunnings Boolaroo yesterday. Currently not on Bunnings Website or Stock Checker

The charger alone is worth $229, and the battery pack is $239

Kit includes

  • 2 x 18V ONE+ 5.0Ah Lithium High Performance Batteries and an 18V ONE+ 6-Port Charger Charges 6 batteries sequentially with a 4A charge rate (Charger)
  • LED indicators display charging status (Charger)

Ironically I had a rant/idea last week on how we have all these excess chargers due to the standalone kits that Bunnings offers, however I've been told this charger is excellent.

What's in the smaller boxes on the right?

  • Worth noting those are the High Performance version with higher discharge current which can get extra performance out of your lawn mowers and big brushless tools.

    • Are they though? I know it says HP in the description but last I checked they don't make a 5ah HP. I'm wondering if that's a typo or the batteries are a new model not yet listed on their site.

      • Ryobi site has pics of the batteries, if you zoom in, they have 'high performance' on the side.

Edit: Saying that, the model is also apparently RB1850X, which a google suggests is just a normal battery. Ryobi model numbers are scuffed!

        • +1

Hmm it does so perhaps a new battery using the old part number?

        • Only way to tell for sure is to check if it has the extra contacts on the back.

Hiw do i get the stock checker to work???

This is an odd kit. If you need the ability to charge that many Ryobi batteries simultaneously you're probably in a position where you should be investing in better tools than Ryobi. There's definitely a bit of an ease of use benefit to not juggling a few single chargers in the evening but still a weird one.

    • +1

Might be the reason why it's discounted, doesn't sell well.

    • +2

Unless they've updated it, the charger can hold 6 batteries but it only charges one at a time. Suppose it's good for people with a few batteries that want to leave them in the charger so they're always ready to go.

      • +1

Having a quick look at Reddit, it seems that Ryobi direct you to not store the batteries in the charger once they're charged.

However many anecdotes in the threads of people who have done it with no issues, and some with people who have had their batteries degrade.

        • +2

Yeah I wouldn't do it personally. I have 7 batteries and use them often enough that they all get charge cycled and don't need to be left on a charger. I bought the dual battery charger which can charge two at once (have some charging right now) and that's sufficient that I've never run out.

        • The previous gen supercharger said you can leave them.. killed batteries rather than keeping them topped up as advertised. Was given it as a gift and lost 2 batteries to it.. I'm guessing enough people complained and so they now advise with the new model not to do this.

          • @inertia8: Good to know. Maybe this is what killed in of my 5ah batteries. I have an old charger.

But the good news is bunnings didn’t have that 5ah in stock so gave me a set of 6ah replacements.

I’ll avoid using the old charger now based on this post.

Bought a new charger anyways as the old one only seems to trickle charge the 6ah

    • I agree, the 2x 9ah battery kit is like 379 which in itself is still pretty expensive for what it is. Everyone has chargers and a >$10 power board

I dont think anyone is that invested where they need to charge 6 at a time where space is that much of an issue

      • Union/commerical/large sites. 1 socket, and one test-n-tag.

    • yea, most people would be buying the tools with battery/charger combo for a deal too good to pass. I dont think there is much value buying stand alone Ryboi like some others have said they might already have like 2 or more chargers as is.

      • If you needed new or additional batteries for some reason this might be handy, but often there are better deals where you essentially pay for a battery and get a free tool (I think I have three drills).

I've got two charger mounted on a wall next to a switched powerboard for twin battery charging should I ever need it. In reality, it's rare that I ever get through more than a single battery let alone two. Maybe with a mower with twin batteries?

Even so, my dual wall mounted setup is more out of the way than this looks like it would provide.

        • Yep. I had 1x 4ah battery with a kit but constantly felt I could finish jobs. When the 4ah wasn’t holding capacity I just got a 2 pack. Expensive yes but I already got tools and the kits had lower end batteries

we get fkn rammed on prices here, some of the home depot sales will make you want to boycott bunnings

        • I smile anytime I remember their UK/Ireland HomeBase journey.

    • +1

It's the regular price for this kit, but this kit is a limited bundle.

Normally, as per OP, this combination would be ~470. Hence $299 is the deal.

Ryobi is so overpriced for the quality you get. They are TTI's entry level brand, but lately they seem to be as or more expensive than AEG, TTI's mid tier tools, which are actually decent.

It seems like you are paying a lot here because of the 6 battery charger, but how many people really need those? I use my tools all day long and the most I ever have on charge at one time is 2.

If somebody wants to enter the Ryobi ecosystem and is looking for a "starter kit", I think it would make more sense to pay $50 more and get the compact drill, impact driver, 2x4ah batteries, and charger.

    • yea the ecosystem is what probably gets most people in. And buying a tool with a battery combo is where the value is at. I dont think many people would need to buy seperate batteries.

    • +1

I bought this Aeg deal when it popped up

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/810596

I always worried I’d regret not getting into ryobi but ‘deals’ like this make me feel better about my choice.

      • It's a good value kit. Smart marketing, though, it's enough to get you in to make you go chase the expensive AEG stuff like recip saw, circular saw, garden tools etc.

    • I made the mistake of buying a Ryobi mower. It takes 6 batteries to do my lawn. I want this.
Alternatively I might return the mower.

      • +1

Do you have an absolutely massive lawn or a lot of 1.5ah batteries (or just degraded batteries)? I typically use 12ah to do 250m2 lawn and edges.

        • All 4ah batteries. 600m2 block, so not a huge lawn, probably 350m2. No edges, have a 2 stroke for that. A lot of the lawn is sir Walter so a bit thicker than cooch. Have resorted to cutting in the highest setting and just cut more regularly. Still needs two sets of batteries.

    • Of course it’s overpriced. But for me the great warrant, bunnings support and ease of use makes it worth the cost. I’m no where near the level of a tradesman skill wise. You should have watched me mount a cctv camera last month - embarrassing. So for a DIY muppet like me the tools will outlast my skill set

  • What's the normal price?

  • This is a new release, probably why it's not showing up on Bunnings site yet,. https://www.ryobi.com.au/products/details/18v-one-twin-5-0ah…

  • Any deals on Ryobi 36v 4Amp batteries?

    • I didn't see any. Just normal price.

    • A couple of times a year there is normally a 2 pack priced at $249. See this search for examples.

  • Just picked one of these up at Bundamba QLD, same price. Cheers

    • Are you able to confirm if these are the proper HP batteries with the extra contacts? Thanks!

      • Yep, two extra contacts on the back of the battery

  • Wish some tools become on special too…. bought battery… as a true Oz bargainer…. and waiting tools on special

  • 6 port charger???

  • Great deal if it actually comes with the HP batteries like it seems to indicate.

The normal 5Ah battery back is $239 on its own, and these are the HP variant. If you need more batteries this is a good deal considering you get the charger.

The US has HP batteries starting from 2Ah and they don’t cost a fortune either. We get shafted here.

  • Seems kinda expensive tbh.
The ozito 3x4ah pack for $99 is a much better deal if you use ozito.

"The BMW seems kinda expensive tbh. The GWM is a much better deal if you don't have any sense of style."

      • +1

sure, but we ain't comparing a BMW to a GWM. These are both entry grade tool brands, Ryobi just has overpriced batteries.

        • +2

"The Hyundai seems kinda expensive tbh. The GWM is a much better deal if you don't have any sense of style."

I will probably grab one one these, despite having single chargers everywhere.

PLEASE NOTE: these charge the batteries sequentially. So even with 6 batteries, it will only charge one at a time. When one is finished it will move on the the next one.

So if you want to charge multiple batteries at once, this is not the right option for you.

  • hmm so keep the batteries, sell the charger off for $150.. get batteries for 150 instead of 240…

  • This is on Bunnings site now too with the same price https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-twin-5-0ah-starter…

  • Collected mine this morning from Noosaville Bunnings. They’ve 6 more on the shelf. Not available for c&c. They are about but few and far between if you check the stock number by State
