Four'n Twenty Meat-Free Pie 4-Pack $7.70 @ Woolworths

970

If you're like me and grew up in Melbourne eating Four'n Twenty pies from 7-11 (washed down with a Slurpee), or gone to the MCG to eat a pie and watch Carlton win a grand final (ok, a very long time ago) and then turned vegetarian, and have missed the pie experience, then this is for you.

Usually $3 a pop or regularly on special for $2.50, but now $1.93 each (in a 4 pack)

Microwave for 3 minutes and then in the oven for 5 minutes to crisp up.

I really like them.

The meat free pie contains as much meat as the regular pies.

Cheaper than the last deal posted

    • I just want milk that tastes like real milk.

      • Prepare for a trip to the farm. Opt for a full self-service.

      • Cow, goat, buffalo, camel, sheep….?

Long time since I had the "pleasure" but I remember I wasn't keen on warm cow or goats' milk as a kid

Love these pies, very delicious, thanks OP, time to stock up :)

    • As asked above, do these still taste like a normal meat pie?

      • No. They taste good and peppery, but not like meat because they are not made of meat.

Just buy a packet and try it. Add curry powder and bam, you have a curry pie. If you don't like it, then kill it with too much curry or sauce.

      • +5

In my view, they taste better than a normal Four'n Twenty meat pie, and I am not a vegetarian (yet).
Each to their own, but I think they've nailed the flavour & texture.

  • -2

If the meat is free then why are they still so bloody expensive!?

    • -1

Because it cost more to produce

    • -1

Henry Ford is possibly your answwer.

  • +1

Thanks so much for posting. Will definitely check these out.

Nice try 4 n Twenty marketing team

  • -8

Give it a few months and they'll be in the clearance bay for $1.

    • +18

Thanks for the opinion, these have been around for years already.

    • +2

Funny that we're on ozb but supposedly this pie going on sale means its bad rofl

  • +5

    $12 for these normally? Christ.

    • -1

I think that more than fair. Actually it should be more. Let the sheep pay.

      • +2

        Let the sheep pay.

        10/10 for the unintended irony.

  • Use to be I my $5 a pack after half price

  • Good to see no sugar in the ingredients list

  • -1

    Agh, they got this all screwed up. It was supposed to say;
    Four'n Twenty Meat? Free Pie!

  • +4

Like most budget pies, all you need is Tomato sauce.

    • +1

Or curry powder (Keens is best for pies).

      • Like just powder it on top or make a hole in it first?

        • Open it up and mix it in after cooking.

    • +1

Lol. Something like this wouldn't be healthy, but it's not vegetables that are the problem.

    • +9

I'm on the carnivore diet and have never been healthier or happier!

yet here you are complaining about other peoples choices which have no impact on you…

      • +3

Carnivores who love making jokes about vegans always telling everyone that they're vegan, but always feel the need to tell everyone that they're carnivores… probably to assert their manliness or something. I dunno.

    • +3

Dude I eat meat.. but what do you gain from saying this… Let people enjoy what they want.. this constant bickering about diets is also frustrating let people enjoy what they want.

      • +2

Yep, I agree! I am slowly becoming a vegetarian, for my own reasons which are of no concern to others, I am almost there, but I don't mind what others eat around me and it's not my job to convince anyone to change their eating habits.
I don't know why people get so caught up in trying to change others.
Eat what you like, it's not my business :)

        • It is the business of who you're eating.

          • @afoveht: Who? I mean there are rare valid reasons but…

            • @Igaf: Yes mate, who.

A self-aware entity is a them, not an it.

(This is a common way of removing person-hood from those we refuse to recognise or want to devalue. Cat's pissing you off? I hate it. Cat's purring on your lap? I love her. It's only based on how you intend to treat the other.)

              • +1

@afoveht: Ah, I see. Don't agree with the language "corruption" but I appreciate the sentiment and the basis for your choice of words.

    • +4

Your opinion is absolutely hilarious. Most people eat plant based meals or snacks several times each day, and to say that they are ALL yuck is mind-blowing to me.

If you don't enjoy any fruits, vegetables, nuts, cereals, dry biscuits, potato chips, fries, bread etc etc. then I can only assume you must be a newborn baby.

    • And your cholesterol levels have never been higher! Good for you!

      • -2

people are still getting their dietary advice from 1960s misinformation lmao

        • +1

It was a good quip, in keeping with the original comment. Out of interest, what modern dietary advice suggests humans should be carnivours?

    • +1

Anyone who tells you they are happy, is not happy.

    • "look at me, I feel great, I'm on the fast-track to heart disease, I'll be a huge burdon on the health system soon and you lot are gonna pay for it!!!"

  • +1

Thanks OP! These pies are really good!

  • +3

It was the best of pies, it was the blurst of pies.

    • Stupid monkey

  • +2

Just to weigh in on this, my wife is pescatarian but wanted to still enjoy a meat pie or sausage roll so tried these out. They're actually really, really good and as a carnivore myself, I can properly recommend them.

  • +1

My fav is the bacon and cheese … I recall this used to be $4 for 4 when 1/2 price in Coles or Woolies.

  • -1

    No cream no deal

  • +1

The numbers are interesting (I know it's a copy-paste, but editing is easy)

    • They're actually $1.93 / pie in this deal.
    • Sodium: 852.00mg / pie.

The other numbers aren't great either. The protein/fat ratio and carbs. Sure, food relies on the Holy Trinity (fat-sugar-salt) to avoid being joyless cardboard, and two of these for lunch are not as bad for you as most KFC.
    So I guess that's…winning?

    • Yeah, as someone who has enjoyed these on occasion, these are narrowly targetted at a subset of the population based on nostalgia and the trinity. It must be a decent number of folks for this product to be financially viable. I think these folks are not particularly fussed over the nutritional qualities, rather favouring price per unit as a key decision maker; otherwise we'd see more premium pie brands like Herbert Adams making them. It's a shame as I'd like to see better quality versions of these on the shelves sooner rather than later

  • Awesome! Thanks!

  • +3

The thread has a chronic case of verbal diarrhea. If just a cheap pie from supermarket. What do you expect…..

  • +6

Love how anytime there is a vegan deal, all the cookers come out of woodwork

    • -1

Yeah the trolls and the real-men and meat eaters take easy offence, haha.
This is the future (and they have been around for years).
The health rating is also better (admittedly not a health food).

  • I can confirm they are delicious. I get a handful every week to eat at work.

  • If ya going vego, just make some home made pies or pasties, these fake meat things are just gunna screw up ya gut.

    • How so? I'd still agree it's best to aim for 80-90% whole food plant based as you have to be realistic.

  • +2

    I’d give these a solid 3.1472 out of 5

    • +1

Nice try. 3.1415927 is closer imo.
Mind boggling that someone can memorise and recite 70,000 (or 100,000 depending on who you believe) digits.

  • +1

Although not a health food they are better than the meat varieties.
3 star vs 2 star health rating.
