I was looking for some speakers to go with the Yamaha receiver from JB. Found this old deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80035 for the speakers at $344 delivered. Now they're $275USD (appx $265AUD) delivered.

Edit:
Since some people missed it, the speakers are $129, and delivery is $145.

    • Yeah, great reviews all over the net.

  • Alright, bought the speakers and going by a bit of research buy Jaycar 12" sub $199. Not sure though, seems best option.

  • Would this Yamaha RX-V373 still go well with these speakers?

  • Are these the best speakers for the money? I'd like to buy a decent set of Home Theatre Speakers without spending a small fortune.

    • +1

These will give you bang for your buck. Very decent (see the trusted reviews link above). Make sure to pair it up with the right amp to drive it (see other comments on this page for more info).

      Cheers

      • Thank you.

  • +1

Damn you Ozbargain. Just bought the Yamaha and these babies.

  • i bought it for 277 delivered…can anyone suggest good av receiver for it pls.

    • yamaha HTR5065 @$415.60 from jbHIFI

      • Would there be much difference in quality if I went for Yamaha RX-V373 instead?
Don't think I can fork out $400 for an av receiver when I'm not really an audiophile.
And I probably wouldn't even notice the difference between the two, unless the HTR5065 has some major kickass functions that the RX-V373 doesn't.

  • Anyone recommend the best sub for this system around the $199 to $250?

Was thinking Jaycar 12" but can't find them anywhere.

  • Tempted, tempted, tempted, tempted, shouldn't look anymore, tempted, tempted. As an ozbargainer, I'm supposed to be saving my dough, not spending it. I am so bloody tempted right now.

I've got a yamaha sound projector in the lounge (YSP-2200) that doubles as a receiver and a sound projector. So far, it's performing brilliantly and sometimes we're spooked by how good the surround sound it (albeit reflected off the walls). However, this deal sounds too good to pass up. The reviews on amazon aren't bad either, in particular

These speakers are manufactured by Klipsch. A simple google search will reveal this. You should expect Klipsch quality behind them as they are a very reputable brand name. Additionally, these speakers ARE 6OHM and as such you WILL have to setup your receiver for the 6OHM speakers. This isn't a big deal depending on your receiver, but it does explain why some people are so ignorantly unhappy with them. Receivers are almost always set to default at 8OHMs for speakers. You need to look in your manual on how to set your receiver for 6OHMs, at 8OHMs these speakers are not getting the appropriate amount of power they need. These are in fact good quality speakers especially for the money. I love the sound."

  • i have a onkyo TX-SR700 receiver which support 6 and 16ohm, do i need to do anything when i connect this speaker to the receiver? I can't find anything on the receiver for ohm setting.

  • Wow, not a bad little buy, will do until i can afford to purchase my Aperion in the next 3 years lol

    Purchased!

  • Haven't purchased anything from amazon before.

How long is this likely to stay at this price?

    • Amazon changes their prices at any given time depends on the quanity and market competitions.

  • So is there night and day between these speakers and the accusound 8.6xd?

    • Not sure how good Accusound 8.6xd sound, most people who buy them are happy. But they're $699 with sub.

These speakers however, have great reviews, worth noting looking at Techradar which loved the system.

I would buy these over Accusound 8.6xd only because of the amount of great reviews on the net.

  • This post has been driving me crazy for 2 days. Finally decided that the mental stress wasnt worth it, caved in and ordered. Trouble was I already had a nice set of floor standers purchased a couple of months ago to go with the $99 Pioneer amp, I dont have anywhere to put these. Computer speakers maybe?

    • Ebay? Sell watever you don't need.

      • Good thinking, 99!

    • floor stand rears, or get a 7.1 receiver….
you don't have a 'problem', you have a possible home theatre upgrade strategy ;)

  • Well, I picked up this baby yesterday for AUD$ 275 and this morning I just got an email from Amazon, telling me that my item has shipped! I paid this in USD with my 28 Degrees Mastercard so I got better exchange rate than the rate from Amazon.
The package weight around 55.50 lbs and I still can't believe it costs only $ 145 to ship the speakers to AU! What a bargain! Now I just need to keep an eye on specials and bargains for AV receiver and a decent Subwoofer.

    • Yeah, all the same here. I also ordered the 210 sub from amazon uk, which dispatched around the same time. Too bad I missed out on the Yamaha deal at JB though =[

  • just a question… would it be viable to just use the two tall speakers for a dj setup. Or would i be better off just getting 2 speakers elsewhere? If so, what would anyone suggest.

    cheers

    • definitely not powerful enough or 'bassy' enough for a dj setup, unless you are DJ'ing in your lounge room

      • it wouldnt be gigging as such, just messing around at home with my 1200's.
also my receiver is 8Ohm - 16Ohm, can these be run in series (ie the floor standing and the satellite to make 12Ohm, to reduce problems?)

        • IMO, you'd be better off with proper DJ speakers or just decent stereo speakers.

        • anyone have pointers on what to get?

  • Hey guys. I picked up the Yamaha receiver for $418 and am still awaiting delivery of these speakers.

If I hook this receiver up to my existing speakers from my Yamaha micro system http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/hifi-systems/m… is there a chance I could blow them or damage them?

As you can tell I'm pretty noob at hi fi.

    Thanks.

  • Anyone received their speakers yet?

    • Mine arrived today, but the receiver hasn't… I don't think it's even been dispatched!

      • Damn you! :P
Yeah, good old Aussie delivery services. Get things faster internationally than overseas. Working as intended :)

  • Not yet. Mine are apparently sitting at the Melbourne depot or somehow went back to Honolulu…

    • Yeah same.
When I woke up to check it I was like what the hell?
Hopefully he deliver em today! :P That is if it isn't back in Honolulu :)

      • Well if it helps, it seems mine are back in Botany now. So… kinda positive?

Actually saw a delivery van near my work with a big Jamo box being loaded in. Was that close to asking if it had my name on it.

        • Yeah mine said it's back in Botany too at 1:30pm today.
Haha, one of the most screwed up trackers I've seen.
Looks like it won't be coming today. :(
Could've been your set of Jamos in that van!

        • Hey guys FYI I called UPS today. Basically the tracking thing is screwed.

According to the tracking my shipment has gone back and forth to Melb and Honululu three times now. Called them up and they have passed customs and are in Syd. I'm guessing Monday.

The UPS tried to explain its because of a logical scan vs a physical scan. I'm guessing the guys just tick it off 'logically' to meet their KPIs or whatever. Pretty stupid.

She kept saying 'if you want to check the status just look online again' …. Ummm lady, didn't we just agree that it's screwed? The helpful bit of information is when you see 'assigned to courier for delivery' or similar then it's on the way to your house.

        • Nice to know dom! I had just jumped on the UPS site to check their tracking and was a bit concerned when I saw "The number of pieces does not match the invoice, waybill, or tracking label." under the Melbourne activity statements.

As long as they actually show up at some point, I'm happy.

You're right though, extremely stupid system.

  • Hey guys… Can anyone recommend a good bang/buck speaker cable?

Or is the supplied cable fine?

FYI I have the $418 Yahama receiver from the other deal.

  • Ordered on the 9/12 received today 14/12! My very first purchase from Amazon and extremely happy. Straight plug and play with my marantz receiver. I saw the couriers truck had another one to deliver after mine. Definitely bang for buck!

    • Did you use the speaker cables that came with it?

      • Just got mine delivered. Awesome color, almost mahogony like :)
No cables supplied with it though
Double checking if pioneer 522 Amp settings need to be changed to connect these to it.

  • Ah crap, should've gotten the cables from amazon too then, I think…….
How much do you need to spend on cables to get good quality from the speakers?

  • Yea no cables supplied but no biggie just using my existing ones.

  • What gauge wires should you use?
I didn't even know there were different types :P
    Is 16AWG good enough?
And wheres the best & cheapest place to buy them from?
    Cheers

  • Not sure what gauge mine are but they are pretty thick Belkin ones. Just so ppl know the colour shown on the website looks a lot lighter. They are quite dark in color which I much preferred. Still going on amazon if anyone's interested.

  • im still umming and arring about these….

i need something for a bedroom dj setup… and dont wanna spend over $300…

    anyone got any pointers????

  • I just realised the Yamaha RXV373B receiver I bought can't be set to 6ohms. It's only for the US & Canada ones.
Anyone know if this is going to be a major problem?
    Thanks

    • i was about to buy the same reciever … the website states they are at 6 ohms. are you sure about it..
      http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-a…

      • Well I don't know anything about receivers, this is my first one.
But the default is at 8ohms right for all receivers right?
But I mean if it's at 6ohms then it's all sweet.
I just assumed all receivers were set to 8ohms and you could only change it if it had that function.

        • Oh I just read page 12 of the manual. I think it's all good, it says to use speakers with an impedance of at least 6ohm. So should be sweet.

        • how did you go with the set up? any feedback is great as i am also looking to buy same reciever

        • I've only set up 4 speakers coz I don't have enough wires yet, coz I'm using the ones from my old hifi. And I haven't bought a sub yet. So I've only got the fronts and surrounds plugged in. Also I'm new to this stuff so I wouldn't know any better. But they are better than my creative speakers from way back when! haha :P
So I'm probably not the right person to ask :) But I'm more than happy with it so far with just testing the quality on music off the usb. Can only get better since I have to add the centre speaker and a sub.

  • +1

    • yes it is fine with vsx-522

    • Price jacked up to $487

      • I hate it when they do this. Hopefully it will fall when the 30% off audio is over.

  • +1

I hadn't received mine by the estimated date, so I emailed them told them I should get notification if its late and that the price had dropped further in the meantime. 6 hours later I got a reply saying they would refund the full shipping cost plus the difference in price! Works out to be about $110 delivered for me, with them expected on the 31st, Bargain!

    • +1

      win!

    • I received mine. The box was damaged to all hell. But the speakers were safe and sound inside. I mentioned this to amazon and they sent a new set and said I could keep the existing set also! Gotta love amazon!
