  • Feedback please! What the general consensus with this model.

    • +2

Very well made, has a clean 4.1 rom from moto with little effort, SD card slot is great

      Performance is pretty crap though

      • can you elaborate a little I would love to update my xoom but im assuming you just mean the wi-fi version?

        • +2

Can't say I'm an expert with it. I have an Aus wifi version flashed to US firmware, making it a GED device with 4.1

I'm sure whirlpool or XDA could give you better advice than me

    • Ive had the wifi Xoom for the past year. I was on the US Jellybean rom but have now gone back to the Europe ICS rom as it is more stable.

Playback of 720p video on Diceplayer is decent. 1080p chugs. Much better results can be obtained by reencoding in native formats, but that is a pain and generally difficult to retain quality in the source file.

Capable of playing most apps adequately. Dead Trigger is fine, as are 2d games such as the usual Angry Birds and such.

However, some of the newer high-profile games such as Rayman Jungle Run suffer from quite noticeable frame rate dips.

The US rom has been updated to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The Aussie rom is still ICS, I think. The stock roms for all regions will not be updated beyond 4.1.2, in any event. It is quite easy to reflash the device via the fastload bootloader with either an alternative stock rom or with clockworkmod which will enable you to use Cyanogenmod or EOS third party firmwares. I tried both. CM is not as accomplished on the Xoom as it is on other devices. EOS have launched a 4.2 based rom with a phone-like user interface. I could not see adequate benefit in either, so I went back to the non-US ICS rom.

I had troubles surfing the web with this device until I upgraded the firmware on my router, its quite picky as regards n/g/b and wifi signals. There is a critical update that you receive in the Euro rom that does a lot to address problems with the wifi, and also browser crashes. I am not sure if you get that update in the Aussie rom as I can't find a copy of it on the net anywhere.

Its a capable device but if I were buying today I would probably prefer the Nexus 10.1". The Xoom is getting on in age.

    https://ebgames.com.au/tablets-157686-Toshiba-AT100-16GB-3G-…

Toshiba AT100 Series - Touchscreen Multimedia

The AT100 Tablet from Toshiba is designed to offer more performance, features and connectivity. The AT100 provides a convenient new way to connect, browse the web and enjoy videos, eBooks, games, photos and more. It features a 25.7cm (10.1”) touchscreen display and is powered by nVIDIA Tegra 2 processing and Android 3.1, designed for Tablets. A range of connectivity options and dual cameras is also included.

This is good deal too. It has also 3g.

    • Anyone know if this really 3g? Apart from the title I can't find any reference to it, or any mention on other review sites. If it is, then it's an amazing deal.

      • true, i couldn't find also.

        • +2

My sister won one of these which came with telstra prepaid 5gb sim included, yes it has 3g.

        • Thanks for informing .

      • +1

        With 3G - http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/tablet/at100/…
        Without 3G - http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/tablet/at100/…

        Take your pick!
My guess is it doesn't have 3G, and if it does, as michiti said, amazing deal.

PS. Well done to the bright spark at Toshiba who thought putting a 32 in the model number of a 16GB unit was a good idea.

        • +1

Surely if it doesn't have 3G then it is false advertising that they have to either refund or supply the goods as listed.

        • Phoned their support line and was assured that it does have 3G, and of course it would be OK to return it if it didn't.

Will find out for sure when mine arrives!

        • Mine arrived. Brand new. It does have 3G also!!! :)

  • +1

Hmmm might get one of these. I had a Tegra 2 phone and I'm pretty sure it should be fast enough for web browsing and games even in a tablet. If not, OC to 1.5ghz and you're golden.

  • +2

    https://www.ebgames.com.au/tablets

I think they are all worth a mention, but I think you should check out CNET for user reviews on all

  • I have this… bought it for $288 December 2011.

No complaints apart from Wi-Fi dropouts every now and then.

    Updated to ICS in July.

US Xooms have JB since July… not sure when we will get them here.

But if you really need JB, you can GEDify your Xoom and get the same updates as US Xooms.

Are any of these high PPI/retina level displays?

    • -1

Downvoted for asking a question? Some people might not know what high PPI is, thus the mention of "OTHER" technologies.

      This wasn't a fanboy post. :/

      • +1

if you googled the model you'll find out its only 1,280 x 800

but naive to think a 2011 clearance tablet running an old android dist. runs retina!

        • -4

Thought the Xoom 2 might be, there's more than just the subject tablet.

      • why do kind people help these noobs ??? Let sleeping dogs lie, else they will neg you…

  • +1

Oh no. I just bought one, I don't even need one.

    • +2

      k.

  • +1

How does this compare with the Samsung 7.7 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87361 ???

    • Doesn't.

      Size difference bro.
      The 7.7 is faster though.

      • How about resolution? The 7.7 is Amoled much better?
Anyone know how battery compare between the 2?
Yes Size is a big plus.

        • Same screen res but 10.1 vs 7.7 so the 7 inch will look crisper.

I expect battery life to be better on the 7.

It depends if you want a 7 or a 10 inch tablet really. The 10 is much more suited for home use and probably better than a 7.7 for that purpose. If you plan to use it for school/work/coffee shops then a 7.7 would seem the better choice I reckon.

        • Ok thanks, how about wifi connection? the 7 said: "The GALAXY Tab 7.7 offers the best connectivity options available - from lightning-fast HSPA+ 21Mps to Wi-Fi Channel Bonding. Wi-Fi Channel bonding technology will let you receive data-rates approximately twice as fast as existing Wi-Fi."

Is that mean better than the Xoom?

        • The 7.7 and Xoom are both Wi-fi only.

WiFi speed should be the same as your laptops/PC in the house for the both of them.

  • +1

IMO 7.7 is superior unless you're dead set on the 10 inch screen.

    • I'm dead set on a 10" screen.

    • +1

Lol at haters.. I've owned both these devices and have also owned every gen of Android tabs from Archos to Samsung.

Besides from the screen size, 7.7 is better in every way. Screen size is a matter of personal preference based on intended usage patterns.

      Spec sheets don't lie.

@Elijah - then the xoom is for you. Decent tab, especially for the price.

  • Will not be using 3g, but can someone comment on the quality and speed between Toshiba one and Motorola?

  • Hi, I'm just after a tablet to watch a few movies and get on the net via wifi when overseas. Would this be a better option than a chinese tablet like Ainol or Cube? Would any others EB have on sale be better? I think 10 inch would be better suited for my use.
    Thanks

    • Since the Cube is more expensive and I've had both, I'd take the polish and finish of the moto over the cube, I really have never had a reason to think either unit was slow, but the cube will definitely be faster.

If you're after a 7" then again the SGT is a bit more expensive, but expect the finish to be much better.

  • +1

I have this tablet and it is a much better option than Ainol.Cube is good tablet but you will not buy one for this price.

    • +1

      the U30GT is under $200 …

    • Don't know about the much better part because the Cube is definitely faster than Tegra 2 and can play Full HD 1080p video! Antutu Benchmark around 8000 for RK3066 with Mali 400 chip.

  • For my parents for travel, and they have used my Nexus 7 and said too small. So wanting a 10"

Why do you go for the Xoom 2 over the Xoom, or should i go with Samsung.

  • How is this compared to ipad mini and Samsung tab 7.7?

    • if u expect smooth operation, min. android OS will be 4.1 and (preferably with quad core cpu). otherwise, Ipad mini is the way to go as it has more tablet optimised apps and smoother operation.

  • +3

Pulled the trigger. Has an official 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update so there is still some life in it.

I prefer the 10" screen over the 7.7".

  • +3

Couldn't help myself and pulled the trigger too. Whats the worst thing that can happen? I end up with yet another piece of equipment I use twice and store in the cupboard until I move! This years bargain, next years landfill!

  • Bought one for mum.

  • Bought one for wife

  • after a bit of Googling;

    This thing is a beast
    MOTOROLA XOOM Weight: 716g

oh, and The Toshiba's Weight 771g

  • Great, just bought one. Thanks for the bargain.

  • Got one before. Any idea how long postage is going to take?

  • SO is it the 3G model or is it a standard EB mistake?

  • Can only buy 1 unit? Don't see any conditions of sale. Do I have to purchase them individually?!

  • Could someone please advise what would be the best buy if the budget was a strict $250 and 10" screen size a given.

    Thanks.

  • Just bought one. I'm sure I won`t be the only one now wondering the best place to buy accessories for this. Can anyone help?

  • Well I brought the Tosh one. Full size USB is important and it has a better screen. The 3G on the Tosh is a bonus but I didn't care about that.

    • The Tosh is quite thick

      • i got the Tosh as well.. i liked the full sized USB.. i will just be putting movies on USB stick and pluging that directly into the tablet for movies on the go! too easy!

    • Hmmm, not sure the Toshiba is a better deal. Toshiba are notoriously slack with firmware updates. As far as I can see, the AT100 is still stuck on Honeycomb.

And it's anyone's guess if there will ever be an official Jellybean update from Toshiba?

  • +1

3G or wifi only? Why people kept on saying it had 3G when the link clearly says 32GB wifi. This is the model with 3G http://www.motorola.com.au/consumers/Motorola-XOOM/72905,en_… and this one wifi only http://www.motorola.com.au/consumers/MOTOROLA-XOOM-with-WiFi…

  • No JellyBean official update guys

has anyone got any further news on that?

  • -6

out of stock while processing my order, what the …

  • -1

What's the diff between Motorola Xoom 2 compare to SGT? And diff between the XOOM and XOOM 2?

  • Sorry guys, it's out of stock. Those who have missed this deal, don't upset , keep an eye on OZBargain, hope you will get the better one. All the best. and thanks again for sharing all the comments.

  • Can someone please help? Is https://www.ebgames.com.au/tablets-156995-MOTOROLA-XOOM-2-An… @$278 a good price? Also, can you claim TRS if the total > $300 including shipping? Or the products must be >300 before shipping? Thanks!

  • Toshiba AT100 16GB 3G is out of stock too, lucky I bought one before.

  • Gutted. Have been wanting to get one for so long. Log on now & missed it by 4 minutes. Cant believe it. BUGGER!!!

  • +2

For those that missed out dont fret, this tablet is pretty old and clunky. These early gen android tablets are dropping price quite rapidly now so you won't have to wait long for a better deal.

  • Ah but 10inch screen for 200 bucks, I felt like I cant go wrong with that for now :D

  • -1

Things better than an iPad 2…

    • I think I would have preferred the XOOM 2, oh well nearly $100 cheaper and too late.

  • All the prices have gone back to RRP? the Xoom2 is now $348…the Toshi 32GB 3G is like $500+ LOL

  • need two more votes…..to become popular ! :-)

    • +1

I missed it cos I couldnt choose between the Motorola or the Toshiba, but by the time I chose Xoom, it was all gone and I didn't bother with the Toshiba.

But here is vote No. 99.

  • +1

I bought one but forgot to + it, so there's number 100. derr @ me!
