    Nat zi car for me

  • I have disliked these cars and thought they were overpriced, unsafe junk with terrible styling long before it became fashionable to hate on Musk or Tesla. It really pains me that Musk is in charge of SpaceX because that is the one thing he is involved in that I want to see succeed and unfortunately he runs it like all his other companies. For example the design of his Starlink satellites make astronomy unncessarily hard, and while they have made some accomodations you can tell the company isn't set up to care. However only a handful of companies compete in space industries so SpaceX going under would be a loss. Cars and batteries on the other hand are a commodity.

  • Soon to be bought by Chinese company like Volvo.

  • +4

So full of Chinese bots promoting BYD over Tesla

    • +3

      And Tesla fan boys.

  • -4

Why is moderator allowed negative votes on such a great deal based on hatred for one individual?

    • +3

it's a really good deal, maybe they are BYD sock puppet accounts, their deals suck ass in comparison

what was it again, 12 months free electricity (capped at 500km or something ridiculous ) - and everyone was creaming their pants over it LOL

either it's sock puppets or we have a LOT of NPCs here on ozbargain

      • Definitely feels that way.

      • +3

People having different opinions to you on the internet.. must be sockpuppets. No other possible explanation.

  • -2

    Mehh swasticar

    • -3

Good job NPC. Keep it up.

  • -1

Can literally get a BYD thats significantly cheaper and feels better to drive

and also not suck off Elon

    • -3

Obviously you've never driven a BYD or only driven a BYD. It's not even close. I have better things to do than spend 6 hours charging a BYD for starters. Give credit where credit's due and keep your politics out of it - Tesla's are great cars.

      • -1

Obviously you have only ever driven a Tesla like all the good little sheep out there BYD is significantly cheaper and its literally getting fast charging this year if thats your only argument for it

"Teslas are great car' nah its not, there's a reason there's more BYD's out there on the streets now, its overpriced.

        • So why is Tesla still outselling BYD by a huge margin? The model 3 outsold the Seal (direct competitor) by 6.7x so far this year.

          • @drewbytes: You are saying why is a competitor not immediately rising to the top?

You realise in 2024 BYD made more money than Tesla already? Sales of Teslas are down in every nation this year around 60% down in Australia alone. This is not 'just politics' what they are doing is going to effect everyone's livelihood

I test drove the sealion 7 performance today, and then went straight to telsa to drive the MY LR. Ive got to say, i prefered the ride of the telsa. The sealion felt what i could describe as spongy. The telsa felt solid. Dont get me wrong, the look of the sealion is superior, but i have to say i was disapointed even though i had the mindset initially that ill love it. Shame…

      • +4

What are you smoking? The Seal has a 150kw charger and the tesla 170kw. It's bugger all difference.

  • +1

There are no new MY Performance cars. They sold out about 1.5months ago.

    • Well, same, MY performance cars at home were sold out since they have been discontinued.

    • There is one MY Performance showing up in QLD

  • at the time of this post there were 71 NPCs

    • +1

Oh yes, your the main character alright because you drive a mass produced car that hasn't changed in 5 years. Such an edgy insult to call people npcs

  • -2

Chinese propoganda mill at its best. Tesla's are still the best when you consider tech, build quality and price. 4 years since I got my model 3 and not 1 issue, yet to come across a BYD or whatever match in performance…I see them in the rear view mirror still driving in the right track when going 20 k's below the speed limit….

    • +1

Seal is very slightly faster 0-100 and cheaper. Model 3 performance is faster then Seal performance, but more expensive.

  • +3

I may consider a new LR MY Juniper if the price drops by $15-20k
You have to consider the insurance costs and running costs of scratch and dent repairs. lol

    • +1

good point on insurance, looks expensive even for an EV..

      • Shop around. I doubt a Tesla would be more expensive to insure then a similar priced EV.

        • I'm not going to check but for a few reasons I think they would cost more to insure..

        • -2

Tesla insurance is about 70% more expensive than other EVs. $1.5k vs $2.5-3k per annum.

  • +10

    Don't buy Tesla

  • +4

    This screams of desperation….

  • +4

This has been the worst trade deal in the history of trade deals, maybe ever.

  • +3

Get it in the low 50k range and we have reached fair value, but even then I wouldn't risk buying one and getting it trashed by others.

  • +5

“If you buy a Tesla today, I believe you are buying an appreciating asset, not a depreciating asset” - Elon Musk, April 2019

    • Is that just internet bullshit like the apocryphal Bill Gates 640K quote, or do you have real citation?

      • Using Google isn't hard. You should try it some time.

        https://electrek.co/2025/03/18/elon-musk-biggest-lie-tesla-v…

        • +1

You should try reading. Where is the citation?
All I see is a screenshot of a tweet saying they would raise the price of FSD option over time.

I do not think you are not being honest with yourself or others, but willing to believe anything that fits your narrative.
Of course it could be true. Musk has said worse many times - but that isn't the point. The bullshit is flowing thick and fast on all sides in these threads.

          • +1

@bargaino: This was widely reported and there are videos of Musk saying it. It was one of the many stupid things that he's said over the years that demonstrated that he's a penny stock charlatan.

Why is every Musk fan a conspiracy theorist?

            • +1

@Illyria: OK, finally we are getting closer to a source.
I've tracked it down for you, interview with transcript.
But of course you don't care about any nuance, you just heard a soundbite you liked and passed it on. Same as all the fanbois and haters. What makes you think you are above the problem?

              https://v1.transcript.lol/read/youtube/%40lexfridman/652310d…

"And as we refine the software, the capabilities will increase dramatically and then the reliability will increase dramatically and then it will receive regulatory approval. So essentially buying a car today is an investment in the future. You're essentially buying, I think the most profound thing is that if you buy a Tesla today, I believe you are buying an appreciating asset, not a depreciating asset."

  • +8

Anybody else, irrelevant of your politics, totally sick of political discussions and debate (whether substantive or as more often than not often, childish and churlish) on a bargain website?

    • -2

Yes. But I'm also curious as to whether or not we can achieve 1000 comments on a post about a decent discount on a decent car.

      • Probably do-able, but needs to be a car related post to start with.

      • -1

Decent? Lol. Nothing about this is a decent discount for old tech with a higher likelihood of it getting damaged than any other vehicle.

  • +2

Wow South African is the new villains now . China big relief.

  • +1

How is a post with close to 100 neg and still not unpublished? Any rules on this?

    • Clearly because the negs are most likely due to sentiment towards an individual, rather than the product or savings itself.

    • The number of + or - votes a deal receives, has nothing to do with it remaining published.

      Example.

  • I reckon they should leg BIG BALLS let loose on the sotware… Brick all the cars.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/us/doge-staffer-big-balls-prov…

  • how is this a good deal considering the resale value is dead

  • -3

it's a ripoff. much better electric cars (mercedes et al) cars out there now, as well as much better value cars (chinese ones).

    • +2

not sure how thats the case with mercedes. just did the comparison between model y and EQA 250+ - you're paying 20-30k more to have less specs, acceleration and charging speeds than a model y. maybe if you wanted to transition from ICE with all the buttons it might be a good deal but i wouldnt be expecting to pay more.

chinese ones makes more sense but interior seems a lot smaller when youre looking at mg4 or zeekr. would have to wait for more reviews on the zeeker but ive tried the mg4 and you can tell how cheaply its made. not the best capacity but would be doable depending on your driving needs

  • +3

FYI, Tesla Y Juniper Australian release price $59,990 for base model

  • Is it worth it at this price? Surely it can be cheaper.

    • -2

i reckon it should be. theyre definitely losing out to competition but im getting a hunch the refreshed model y isnt doing so hot but will have to wait for the monthly sales to show

  • -2

As long as these cars use only cameras and no LIDAR, it will be left behind in tech by the trad car manufacturers let alone the plethora of chinese EVs on the market.

  • Financial suicide buying a Tesla, it’s like buying a horse and carriage.

  • anyone here planning to order the Juniper Y? Anyone knows of any incoming rebates/deals/discounts?

  • $11,000 off now.
