  • Reckon we could get an eBay offer too?

    • +2

      Not this time sorry

      • +1

the obligatory question: "genuine Microsoft keyboard included it is?"

        • +5

          Yeah mate

  • +9

It seems like it’s the luck of the draw with these guys, in terms of the item condition. I’m still waiting for a return label from the recent Dell laptop deal which was supposedly ‘A Grade’.

    • +1

That's why always order via their eBay page not directly. Last time they offered an eBay offer after requesting.

    • +13

I'm completely done with these guys—never again. With the recent Dell deal, I ended up with a borderline A-B grade laptop. Even though the battery health shows over 94%, it barely lasts an hour. Their grading system is absolute BS

      • +5

I have a 10th gen dell laptop that was brand new and the battery barely lasts an hour, had a dell laptop at work that also couldn't last a 1 hour trams meeting. Might not be these guys fault the dell batteries are crap.

        • +1

The trick is to turn off turbo boost and set max CPU to about 30-40% when on battery via advanced power settings in power options. Runs quieter for much longer.

          • @zealmax: I just live with it as I don't use it out the house but saying it as it might not be the sellers fault for atteociaois battery life.

I'm more annoyed the one I have has an awful design choice to vent out the back of the base up the front of the screen, which means if you use the thing docked it just bakes itself until it overheats and is unusable, so you have to leave the screen open and go through the annoyance of setting the laptops display to disconnected in the windows settings whenever you use an external didplay. We also have an hp that shares the same stupid design though so that's not exclusively dells fault.

            • @Everettpsycho: The trick is to stand the laptop vertically with the screen ajar facing the desk, forming a pyramid. Keeps the laptop cool and takes up less desk space.

      • +2

can you post some pics of the Dell you got?
did you ask for refund and return the laptop?

I think it was all B grade or they only had a few A grades
and just sold the rest of B grades as A grades (and hope people would just keep the one they got sent ie too much effort to return/refund/complain)

Hence they didn't want to reduce the price of the B grade (from last deal) after A grade were sold out.

    • It's the luck of the draw. I have bought from them and was very happy. For a surface with no scratches on screen and fair battery

      • +3

It's the luck of the draw

but if they selling a product they claimed is A grade
        then it should A grade,

there grading system either sucks and can't be trusted
and therefore they need to clearly define their grade system

or they are misleading people with their grades claim
and it is all just the same grade OR they are not even grading it (and just send it out as the orders come)

    • The device I received from the recent Dell laptop deal was like new. Ordered direct from Australian Computer Traders website. Was thinking I would definitely buy from them again so it's Interesting to see that not everyone had the same positive experience.

  • +1

Is this where old school and government pcs end up? I reckon “lottery ticket” price is a little too high, especially when you could get a similar or much better brand new spec’d pc/android tablet on AliExpress, granted a different type of lottery with regards to warranty and post purchase support.

    • +2

I've noticed Aliexpress are on the ball with the customer service especially with smaller priced goods etc.

However, would be nice to know how good they'd be with expensive stuff.

      • +2

I but quite a lot (well to me it's quite a bit) get Ali and I can tell you the story varies massively. I had big issues with one particular item, so much that I ended up giving up. The hoops they wanted me to just through, at the same the not listening at all to what I was saying. It was at times like training to robots running off scripts. This particular example was where the buyer themselves had agreed to provide a refund with no return, but it was literally impossible to get that through to Ali support - they just wouldn't listen and it all I got was fake "oh I'm so sorry" and then nothing after days if waiting. More detail to it but this post is long enough already.

Other times it was quite smooth.

Basically it seems to be pot luck to a point because I also believe the level of understanding you receive is also based on how much you buy overall.

        • +1

I had a similar experience one a Soyo mini PC bought from one of the Aliexpress deals posted couple of months ago.

The PC started acting up 1 month in with audio and graphic output spazzing out.

I contacted store chat, followed instructions provided to me ie. recording a video, uploading to Youtube, lodging returns request.

Returns request got approved. I contacted store chat again for postage instructions. After seeing the video evidence, store rep advised to NOT return the item ie. letting returns window expire, then requesting for a full refund without returning the item.

Obviously, I got denied my full refund every time since, even though I told them I was willing to return the item.

Store chat would "escalate to higher team" aka. Choice (or Chocie as they spell it) who would then reply email with so many different reasons ie. customer failed to return item (was told not to)/ the item is still useable (it really isn't)/ so much time has passed (can't do much about time passing)/ I have had some use of the item (what do?)/ a partial refund was provided and accepted (it wasn't a choice, there wasn't any way to respond to Chocie email decision) etc.

I am relieved but somewhat alarmed that this has happened to other people as well. Is this a thing that Aliexpress does?

I'm still spewing and feeling like I got tricked out of a return/full refund. Anyone got any tips on how to get my money back? Payment was Mastercard. The item is unusable and not being used and I am willing to return it.

          • @dainty: You got to be very careful where you buy from with Aliexpress if you arent buying something trivial.

            Very careful.

          • @dainty: Did you get a n100 or n150 pc by any chance? I got the n150 and I'm a little concerned after reading your experience

          • @dainty: I remember being asked to do the same, but I didn't. Especially when they message you on the side, felt pretty dodgy.

          • @dainty: You made a big mistake. You should not have agreed to wait for the delivery window expiry.
I had no issues to get full refund for the faulty phone.
The seller tried all sorts of tricks to get me to wait or to agree to the partial refund but I just asked Ali customer service to step in and everything was sorted out - free return postage and full refund.

    • Any recommendations on windows laptops on AE? Android is great, but Windows tends to be a lot of N100 based tablets or a matebook for a grand

  • +6

Any deal on the pro 7+? Pro 7 is already 6 years old

    • The 7 and 8 series Intel systems are no longer receiving Windows driver updates and this matters in terms of security. I think the 9 and 10 series are about to lose support as well.

This isn't a problem for some Linux applications, but that certainly isn't what most people would use these for.

  • +4

These guys are great. I’ve purchased two refurbs from them and both have been great value and run well.

One thing I’d suggest for anyone having trouble with updates or performance: consider doing a fresh install of Windows. I had to do that myself after some updates failed/stalled and then they worked properly. Otherwise, top marks from me!

  • +6

I got a dell laptop from the last deal and the entire bottom panel wasn't screwed on at all when I got it and some of the screw threads were damaged. Happy with the laptop otherwise, but probably wouldn't buy from them again.

  • +7

I think i purchased two Dell laptops from these guys, some of the keys were pretty ducked and wouldn't work properly like one of them the a key is tricked…

makes it very frustrating to type as letters wouldn't register properly and also the hingies on both laptops were very bad. this is a Dell w a 6th gen and x360+touchscreen.

batteries are super mega cooked now over 78% wear lol.

    45wh now it's only like 9wh.

    • +2

Cheers will give it a miss

      • +2

yeah i reckon these surface devices form Microsoft feel so much like waste because 8gb soldered ram limits it already and then when the batteries out it'd be like super annoying to install a new one etc…

    • +2

      ducked

Let me guess - "f" was one of the problem ones?

  • +6

    shame about 8gb

    • +3

Not upgradable either, its soldered LPDDR4X

  • +2

I'd probably skip this and go for the 7 pro plus instead. The plus has a user replaceable SSD which is amazing for a tablet imo. You also get a faster cpu

    • +1

I agree with this. There is some super weird throttling issues with the Pro 7. I picked one up in one of these deals (different seller I think?) and my old Pro 3 was still outperforming it

  • +5

Op, the business is getting trashed by what seems to be very consistent comments and issues. Care to reply to any of these allegations?

    • +1

No allegations when it's a reality. If the product is good, it's great but when anything goes wrong you get responses like it's grade B you shouldn't expect much or these are refurbished.

    • +11

TBH sometimes it not worth going down the rabbit hole. We have sold thousands and thousands of items to the ozbargin community. The challenge has always been that we sell a product that anyone can have a subjective opinion on. At the end of the day if you’re not happy with your purchase it’s an easy process to return for refund or replacement.

      • +5

Tell me more about the "easy process"?

        • +4

It's easy to not get a reply.

        • You contact them and return the product. They check fix or replace the laptop for you. I have had no issues with warranty with these guys. I think I did pay for the return postage.

    • +1

Got the same experience, bought a very good refurbished laptop, clearly it was never refurbished came with dirty keyboard dust around touch pad as a solution they want me to clean it with a brush & plastic safe solution.

  • +3

The condition is pretty ordinary and you will end up being disaster

  • +7

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like the Surface Book 2 with it's 15" screen and 16GB of RAM for $299 looks like the better deal here? Ok, it's not as new, not as speedy processor, and for some people it might be too big, but still.

    • +1

Don’t quote me but I’m pretty sure this version with the i7 has the GPU in the keyboard.

      • I have the one with the proper GPU (can't remember the model), and the keyboard with mine is a chunky fella, not so nice and thin as you guys are selling.

      • +1

hi, is there a discount code available for SKU: Surfacepro7Plusi73-r ?
        thanks .

    • Just bought one. I have one with 8GB memory and regret till this day that I didn't get the 16GB version. Issue fixed :D

  • This or surface laptop go 8gb 256gb i5-1035g1?

  • +1

the surface book probably the best deal ,but I dont need any

  • I am going on trip. How long the battery lasts on Microsoft Surface Book 2?

    HDD and RAM DIY replaceable?

  • +3

I have the surface book 2 like this one. Unless the keyboard has been swapped, it should come with the GTX 1060.

For $299 it's an okay deal I guess. Don't expect this to be as snappy as a modern laptop. Also based on my past experience with this seller, the condition can be a hit and miss.

  • +3

The 15in Surface Book 2 is the real deal here. Absolute no brainer.

  • I’m surprised by the negative comments about this vendor.

I bought three laptops from them in the past 6 months. All of them were dispatched quickly, cleaned thoroughly and well packed.

All had a few scratches which is to be expected for laptops that have been used in a work environment for 4, 5 or 6 years. Battery life very reasonable too.

Love being able to buy $300 school laptops for the kids, that are more rugged and better on the wallet than new consumer grade models. Sure beats stuffing around with private sellers on Marketplace.

    • -1

      Much love

      • Any chance of finding more of the laptop Book 2s? It sold out as I was checking out.

  • when does this current deal end?

    • +1

      Untill stocks last

      • I ended up getting one, can’t wait to see how it is for once it arrives. Would have gotten more than one if it had 16gb ram in it.

Do you have plans in having any dell optiplex or hp prodesk minis going on sale anytime soon?

  • I bought a Surface Pro 5 from them last time and I ended up receiving a Surface Pro 6 with keyboard, great battery life, minimal scratches and everything worked great.

  • +1

    These are awesome Linux tablet.
Depending on the model, the Bluetooth might does not work but everything else does.
The battery last forever, it is very responsive.

I think mine is Surface 6 with the physical keyboard but touches works also.

    Look into: https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface

  • Anymore stock for the surface book 2?

  • Surface book 2 out of stock

  • With surface pro 5, are you stuck with windows 10 since hardware can't support windows 11?

So what happens when windows 10 is end of life?

    • +1

Just google for the way to upgrade surface pro 5 to win11. Not hard and works fine afterwards.

  • +1

Clicked on this deal out of curiosity to read the comments. Sounds like ACL are either very inaccurate with their quality grading or people's expectation are too high for a 2nd hand laptop as there are a lot complaints and a lot of people saying it comes down to luck. I bought an 8YO ThinkPad last month which was cheap because it's so old and I must've been lucky. The quality is what they reported, Grade A, with minor scuff marks and wear and tear that you would expect from an old device. I assumed they wiped the hard disk as it came with a fresh install of Windows 10. I'll have to learn how to Linux after October but that's fine. Battery re-calibration now shows 86.95% full charge capacity which is fine. I wanted to recommend ACL to my friends and family but these comments are making me think twice despite my positive experience.

    • +1

The negative customers are always going to be more outspoken especially when buying used products. Retailers aim to have a sub 1% dispute rate so if they sold 3000 laptops on OzBargain, having less than 30 hate comments is relatively good.

  • @Calmago - Any discount on this MicrosoftSB2i71-r?

    • Not at this stage mate.

  • Any Surface book 2 going to be available?

  • Good prices! I've bought 2-3 laptops, several accessories and a couple of mini PCs from them over the years. Been mostly happy with the condition (as described or better). Had a couple of minor issues, but their support is always quick to respond and sort out the matter (both on and off eBay), even when it was out of the stated warranty period. Would definitely recommend them!

  • Such good prices. Sad I missed the Surface book 2 deal.

Any chance we could have some deals on any other Surface stock with 16GB of ram? Don't mind a dated processor, but I can't justify an upgrade to just 8GB of RAM

  • +2

Just received the Surface Book 2, very quick delivery.

Looks like mine was turned on for the first time in 2023, with battery cycle couts 2 and 4. So it's practically new with no signs of use. The seller only removed a corporate sticker (?) from the top right corner of the keyboard. I used an alcohol wipe to wipe the remainder glue away.

It came in its original box, the charger is unused and it is the NVidia model as well.

    Very happy, thank you!

    • sounds too good to be true

    • +1

Had the same experience as datafellows. Must be our lucky day.
@datafellows, did you notice that GTX 1060 is detected, but not actually being used? Windows seems to always use the integrated Intel Graphics 620 all the time. Any ideas how to force Windows to use the Nvidia GPU?

      • +1

As far as I know, it is automatic and I'm not sure if you can force one or the other? Did you open the NVIDIA Control Panel? There you can find some settings as well.

Also, in some applications/games you can choose which graphics card is used. I did install and play some games on my other Book 2 with NVIDIA card years back and I had to choose the card in the games settings.

        • +2

Haven't received mine yet, so don't have practical experience, but I do remember reading in some review that they had trouble with the switching. From what I understand, you can set the preferred card, or set individual apps to use a specific graphics card in the Nvidia Control Panel. Or you can use Windows Settings → System → Display → Graphics settings and set individual apps preference there.

          • @jakentta: God damn, at that price, $299 is a steal. I picked up an SB2 13.5" from this store last year—it was listed as A grade, but honestly, it wasn’t. The exterior was pretty banged up, though the screen and keyboard were in great shape, so I decided to keep it. Windows 11 runs terribly on the SB2, but Windows 10 feels much snappier—it actually makes the SB2 feel somewhat modern. I've been running Windows 10 and Linux Mint XFCE dual boot.
It's been great, but a bigger screen would've been even better. I should've jumped onto this deal!

        • +1

          Thanks for the advice, @datafellows
Enabled hardware acceleration under Graphics Settings, but ultimately needed to make a change in Nvidia Control Panel for Windows to make use of the GPU.
Windows Update will only go up to version 461.40 (2021). Nvidia App installed latest driver version 546.33 (2023).

    • +1

      Received mine yesterday as well.

The condition is near new, there is only one pen tip size dent on one edge. The screen keyboard and all other areas are like new, still has a smell of new product.

There are signs on the top, from 4 removed stickers. It is hardly noticeable unless shining light from a certain angle.

Battery has only 12 cycles, it comes in fully discharged condition.

There are some stains on the packaging and mark with date as Dec 2019.

    • Received mine today.

I'm not as lucky, battery cycle count is 100, health at 97% and 88% respectively. There are some light scratches at the bottom of the base, but otherwise I'm happy with the product's condition. Good purchase.

      • Where do you see battery cycle count/health at? In the bios or in an app?

        • You can run a cmd line to generate a battery report in a HTML file. You can easily google it.

  • Code SP7256 doesn't work for the 10th gen for me

  • Code is not working.

    • +1

Checked just now and it's still working fine.
