Similar to Clear's previous posts https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898175, plenty of comments there.

This seems good price for the 8GB/256GB version, cheaper than the 8GB/128GB that I can currently see.

I cannot bring myself to pull the trigger again, but I am others would. I cannot get past that the screen is huge and seems impractical and not so portable, fragile?

No sure when it really ends, prices keep changing randomly to me. Not sure about Cashback as I do not use it.

CN ROM is a good thing. The alternative is a fake ROM with an unlocked bootloader (easy avenue for malware), no updates, no Widevine L1 and no Netflix HD. Is that really a better option? I think not.

      • Is there a genuine global rom that you can flash on these?

        • No. Why would you want one?

          • @Clear: For English all the way through the system? I have one, I've done a lot to modify it, still has Chinese pop up.

@FabMan: Yeah true. That's really the only legitimate reason I'd see why you'd want a global ROM. It's disappointing Lenovo have blocked reflashing and their global ROMs reduce the features available in ZUI, i.e. faster fast charging.

The better option is keeping my money for something else. But I forgot we Gyna now

        • Ok troll

CN ROM works fine on my 2022 version. Only takes a couple minutes to sort out Google Play.

    • What's difference between CD ROM and CN ROM?

  • What's the difference between the link you posted and Clear's aliexpress link in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898175 ? They are both sell by 70mai-Goldway, but OP's link is selling 8GB 256GB Grey at USD $223.99, the other at USD $231.39. New to Aliexpress and trying to figure out the differences. Thanks

The model is the same on both, just the storage size is different.
AliExpress search engine in crazy and a bit useless to me, you cannot sort by price. To me you just keep clicking to find the right deal, like this deal on the 70mai store page it's even hard to find this deal. Once you find it, bookmark it, as it sometimes impossible to find again. The same store has the same item listed at all different prices. If you don't find the right price, wait and try again next week. There is a sale every week, month so don't get FOMO, there will always be a better or similar deal.

      • Many thanks!

    Bought this for my mum.

Good tablet. Does the job she just watches things on youtube no problem.

A few extra steps to make it more ergonomic for her, ie removing bloatware (chinese apps) and added google apps, installed nova launcher (removed priority on CN launcher) and it functions as a parent proof device. It's a bit daunting when you first boot it up as you see a lot of apps you are not familiar with and chinese language, but a few clean ups maybe an additional 30 minutes to setup.

Bought additional accessories from Alieexpress and it made it a lot better.

    Would recommend.

  • does it charge you in USD or AUD?

    • AUD, USD or EUR depending on what you select.
Best rate is probably USD with a no fee debit/credit card.

  • Any good as a Home Assistant wall mounted interface?

Probably overkill for something like that tbh

      • What would be a better 13” screen for HA?

    • That was quick. It always seems so random.

Wow, that goldway named is a handful. I remember it used to be called goldway HK back in 2017.

  • Thanks for the listing of the tablet. It is exactly what I have been looking for and at a good price.

  • Can someone confirm if this can be used as secondary monitor "uvc"?

Got one of these it’s a beast compared to the prices you pay for an iPad. I got the keyboard which is okay and now I do some of my work on it and use it as a seperate to do list, bit of an overkill but I love it

  • Can you get google services ?

    • +2

Yes. Built into the rom as an option in settings. No need to stuff about to sideload

  • This or windows surface?

    • Research both, compare.

    • get both

  • I got one off a previous deal. Had slow wi-fi until I enabled wpa3 on my wifi router (thanks to tips on a previous deal for this). Apparently that slow down is fixed in the latest OS update (version number ending in .130). I don't know for sure though as I'm keeping wpa3 enabled.

What that .130 update did do though is kill 32bit app support. An app I had that I thought was 64 bit (Nomad Sculpt) has been disabled by the OS update as it said it was 32bit, and I can't reinstall a 64bit APK of it because it complains that the app is still installed and incompatible, and that I should uninstall the old install first. But I can't uninstall the old install because the OS disabled it. I tried the app called App Manager to try and clean out the leftover files (or better yet extract my projects to save them!) but it's also hitting the same issues. Lenovo support hasn't responded to any of my tickets . If anyone knows how I can get around this catch 22, it would be appreciated!

Footnote: I'm running with droid-ify/fdroid and other alternate app stores as I'm exploring the viability of going mostly open source/self hosted, and getting my life out of Google. Not using a Lenovo account or app stores either.

You might need to try uninstalling it via ADB.

  • Hey, does anyone know how many years of Android's support upgrades? The novo. Provides trying to read up online, pretty unclear whether we'll get android fifteen or sixteen

  • Does the case allow the tablet to stand?
