Wish they change the lame English name… even Shenlan sounds way better…

    • +53

      yeah the name sucks

i thought it was an indian brand when i first heard of it

      • +2

Yeah same here. Who in their PR thought of Deepal lol

        • Still much better name and much better car than toyoto fckb#?z4x

      • +1

Shenlan makes great cars with a unique design vibe, it's just a shame the name 'Deepal' kind of ruins it.

      • +2

Lol yes.. in fact I know an Indian with the same name.. it's pretty common

      • a space in the name would make it sould better

        Deep Al

    • +5

      Reminds me of Deepak Cx

  • +21

I can only smh at these "deals".

Yes, they are the "cheapest"… but come on - it's just advertising, plain and simple. There's no bargain to be found here.

    • +7

      its even worse than that

basically this mob wants to launch in australia so they imported XX or XXX numbers of these things LAST YEAR and now they cant sell them

and so now here we are… like Elon trying to sell last years cars the consumer dont want

      • +1

That's the driver behind lots of deals that get posted here. Needing to move stock. Its fine.

  • +6

Just wait for the BYD end of year sale as they will be looking to clear the Atto 3 for the upcoming Atto 2. Then MG S5 will drop to $35k driveaway

    • +2

Atto 2 is going to be solid especially with the more sensible interior.

    • +1

Not sure BYD will be out with a strong EOFY campaign as availability is pretty tight ATM - most users in online forums are complying about long delivery times…

      • +3

I would rather complain than comply with long delivery times. ;)

    • Isn't the Dolphin the Atto 2 in different markets?

      • Perhaps in China… In the overseas market (currently available in Europe) it’s known as Atto 2. The vehicle slots between the Dolphin and Atto 3 in BYDs lineup. It’s cheaper than the Atto 3 but smaller and less powerful

        • So why would BYD Australia clear out the Atto 3 if the Atto 2 sits in a different spot in the line up?

  • Mazda has made an electric SUV based on this Deepal. It’s already available for presale in China. Apparently it will be an international vehicle.

    • Didnt they go in partnership with a chinese car.company so you are getting a chinese car but paying more for the Mazda brand name?

      • Many of the Japanese and European brands have partnered with one or more Chinese manufacturers. Honda, for example, produces a pair of cars and also SUVs from separate manufacturers. They are practically identical, other than some visual and interior differences. Same same but different. Having a Chinese partner is part and parcel of doing business over there. The legacy brands get access to Chinese tech, manufacturing, software, and of course, batteries.

  • +4

What is Deepal? Is this a new Indian car brand?

  • Has the intrusive driver monitor warning been fixed over software update? Every review I've watched complains about how distracting it is.

    • +3

Even if they fixed that, I have doubts this Deepal brand is going to be sustainable in Australia for long

      • +1

Yeah, I think you're right. Compared to all the "new" Chinese brands coming to Australia, this one seems to be lacking potential

        • -1

a lot of them 'lack potential'

i can surely see a case for GWM MG BYD LDV Xpeng

can people see a case for Leapmotor? JAC?

          Zeekr? Geely???

even then can you bank on one model? two?

MG at worst has a full spectrum of models to choose from

          • +2

@tonyjzx: Geely and Zeekr have alot of potential.
They are being run out of the gate as factory backed operations in Australia. No third party importers (Xpeng), or being backed by a brand that is known for terrible customer service (Stellantis Group)

Geely is absolutely huge too. They own Volvo, Polestar, Lotus.

I agree about Leapmotor, JAC and Deepal though. I fully expect them to fall by the wayside over the coming years.

            • @E5TOQUE: Deepal is Changan group though, chinese government owned. They’re probably not going anywhere anytime soon

              • @djprima: Deepal in China likely won't go anywhere.
If the importer of Deepal in Australia (Inchape) doesn't get sales traction with the brand, they will stop importing it (like they did with Citreon recently).
Changan/Deepal clearly don't have much interest to spend money on setting up local operations like Geely/Zeekr, GWM, MG, Chery/Jaecoo are currently doing. BYD is ditching their Australian importer for their luxury Denza brand in Australia later this year too!

The other elephant in the room is Changan's and Mazda's partnership.
They have worked together on the Mazda 6e and Mazda EZ-60 - which are both going to be exported globally, including to RHD markets. I'd fully expect to see Mazda bringing these products into Australia in 2026. Changan will likely get alot more sales of their products being rebranded Mazda's, then they will as their own brand via Inchcape importers in Australia. Mazda Australia is also another factory backed operation.

  • -4

They should merge with RAM. Then they can call their cars RAMitDeep

    • +5

      Suck my Ganesh

    • +1

98% of RAM buyers can do just that imo.

    • Is the June release confirmed? Keep hearing about this magical cheaper Tesla Y for what feels like years now.

    • +6

Tesla's insurance costs are double the price of other EVs. It adds up over the years.

However, having bought a Chinese EV I'm now annoyed by its software and regret not getting the old Model Y.

      • +4

Tesla insurance is about 50% more expensive than the Chinese brands, something to consider (Model Y owner here) I've test driven most of the new Chinese EVs and yes the ADAS systems are annoying. Leapmotor being the worst, followed by Deepal, BYD and Geely. The best of the bunch is Xpeng, the G6 is a great car. The silver lining to all this is the beeps and bongs can be sorted to some degree with OTA software updates. I will say the fit and finish on all the Chinese vehicles are great. They haven't cheaped out on the interiors and are a very nice place to be in. Unlike some European manufactures (i'm looking at you Cupra Tavascan)

        • How would you rate the Xpeng G6 compared to the MY?

          • +1

@bauser99: Xpeng G6 facelift just launched in China.
Expected to arrive in export markets (and Australia) over the next 6 months or so.

Best to compare/wait for Tesla Model Y refresh and Xpeng G6 to go on sale alongside each other.
Xpeng has revealed the G7 a few months ago. That is coming to Australia next year apparently (alongside the G9 and X9).

      • +13

Not a single negative comment about Tesla under the initial comment and yet you make this comment

        The irony is quite comical

        • +1

          Spotted on

        • -1

How about all other posts? You know what I'm talking about.

      • +2

Last time I checked, biggest Tesla factory is in China and Teslas sold in Australia are Chinese built.

Elon musk is CCP puppet and has called Taiwan integral part of China. Either you're ignorant or dumb to understand him and his politics.

        • -1

So, he is a fascist working for communists. That sounds very smart, how couldn't I see it? Thanks

        • -3

Either you're ignorant or dumb to understand him and his politics.

Understanding things makes you ignorant or dumb?
You need to go back to whatever excuse of a school you went to and ask for your money back.

  • +3

These would be an interesting buy at say around $30k, at $50K hmmm, tell them they're dreamin'

  • +4

IMHO the Geely EX5 is better & cheaper, especially with their current EOFY offer… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/903973

    • 60 kWh vs 80 kWh battery. Big difference.

      • +2

475km range vs 430km range. Not a huge difference in real world usage. I guess that sleek body of the Geely is much more aerodynamic.

        • 410km range on EX5 Inspire which most are buying as it has ventilated seats. Still a 17% difference.

80% charge for daily use is fine. You really need that 100% charge only when going on road trips. How many you do in a year? 3-4? Not a big deal to charge to 100% on those occasions. You won't charge an LFP to a 100% during road trips either way as charging is very slow after the battery reaches 80% on public chargers.

      • +2

        60kw LFP which doesn't mind 100% charge
        Vs
80kw NMC which prefers to be charged to 80%

So I'd actually call it 60 vs 64 for everyday use

    • Agreed. Went with EX5 for the vented seats for much cheaper.

  • +4

Had the unfortunate opportunity to drive one, I've never disliked a car more in my life, it's impossible to drive smoothly without the computers doing something stupid or it beeping at you crazy even when you turn every sound and safety assistant off. Buyer beware

    • Why were you driving it?

      • +4

        he did the needful

      • +1

Press Car for a mates YouTube channel, he was in something else at the time, The facts are that all my complaints listed above could be completely resolved with an over the air software fix, don't get your hope up however.

    • +2

That's how I felt about the Havals having driven them over several days.

Sweet Jesus just let me drive I have a flawless record. Bing bongs, shaking steering wheels, red lights on the dash, alerts for LOOK AT THE ROAD when I'm wearing sunglasses or drinking from a water bottle or can, ASD accelerating into negative curves and over blind crests.

The Japanese brands were way less obnoxious and the Audi was downright calm and relaxing (particularly lack of road noise).

I do not want to constantly have to turn off every function every time I get in the car.

      • The Japanese brands were way less obnoxious and the Audi was downright calm and relaxing (particularly lack of road noise).

You have to wonder who thinks these alerts and alarms are a good thing, even the Japanese get carried away with it IMO. It's one of the main reasons to buy a German car, their warnings are the most subtle and the least intrusive of all.

      • It just makes you wonder how they intend on keeping and gaining new customers with their crappy user experience.

  • +2

Why do Chinese car brands always have such terrible names?

    • +2

Why do Chinese car brands always have such terrible names?

Because they cater to their main market which is not us. If you had a business would you pander to the 1% or the 99% of your sales base?

  • Is he any relation to deepak.

  • Is this a good deal for a genuine DEEPAL S07 EV MY24?

  • FREE Public charging???

Seems contradictory or even a con?

  • I didn’t even know there was a Car company Named “Deepal “! I must be living under a Rock .

  • +2

    This was always inevitable.

The $50k ev club is oversaturated.

Mind you I'd take of these over an xpeng or byd. They look sick. Although everyone will think you're driving in an Indian car

  • Really love the look of these. Shame they seem to be quite slow, and the name is horrible. Why didn't they just release it here as a Changan?

I suspect they'll be closer to mid-low 40s by the end of the year…

  • I spent an hour in the s07

To me the cons are , no physical buttons or knobs, indicator stalk is on the left, same position behind the wheel on the right is the gear selector.

Pros: built-in dash cam for both intertoir and exterior , heads up display

While the driver monitoring is annoying, it can be disabled with 1 tap on the screen.

    • +1

Wait, so what happens when you inevitably touch the wrong stalk when you're going for the indicators?

  • +1

NMC battery quite unethical. Nice car apart from the annoying ADAS.

  • +1

Straight up between Deepal and Leap Motor…who the hell is thinking of these names

    • Chinese name that is lost in translation…

  • +2

All these new car makers from China, never built a car before and decide to build an EV - charge us 50k AUD. Go away.

    • Deepal is owned by Changan, a Chinese car manufacturer that produces Mazda cars for the Chinese market.

      • Regardless - Deepal has been around since 2022. No thanks. If they were Changan, they would have used the brandname. Sound like a no frills Changan.

        • The company's original name sounds racist. Chongqing Changan New Energy Automobile Technology. That's Chinese on Chinese racism.

  • -1

    No thanks

  • Press the horn and it'll say 'Namaste'

    /joke

  • Drove this at the Melbourne Motor Show and was not impressed. Strange power delivery, no one pedal driving, horrible driver monitoring (although they said they were going to fix that, should be done by now). Needs to be cheaper than this I think.
