You pay premiums quarterly, half-yearly or annually
Your name and email don't match exactly between your Finder quote and HBF purchase
You're not a Finder member
You're an HBF employee or family member using a staff discount
You sign up before 15 May or after 21 May 2025
You're not a Finder member
How and when will I get the $500 reward?
If you're eligible, here's what happens next:

Eligibility check happens by 14 July 2025
Visa card sent by 31 August 2025
Activate your Visa card by 30 November 2025
The card will come via email from our fulfillment partner, Blackhawk Network.

Make sure your payments are up to date and your policy is still active when we check.

When does the $500 Visa card expire?
Once you activate your digital Visa card, it will remain valid for 3 years from the date of activation.

You'll receive instructions on how to activate your card when it's sent to you. Just make sure to activate it by 30 November 2025 - that's 3 months after the issue date - so you can start using it before it expires.

Can I add the $500 Visa card to Apple Pay or Google Pay?
Yes, you can. Once you receive your digital Visa card, you'll be able to add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay and use it just like you would any other card in your digital wallet.

You'll get setup instructions when the card is sent to you.

What if I entered my details incorrectly?
To qualify for the reward, your first name, last name and email address must match exactly between your Finder quote and your HBF purchase. If anything doesn't match, your reward may not be issued - so double-check your details before completing the switch.

Can I claim this offer if I've used another HBF promotion?
No - you can't combine this reward with any other HBF promotion, corporate discount or offer (except for the direct debit discount). If you've redeemed an HBF promotional or save offer in the last 12 months, you won't be eligible.

Who do I contact if I haven't received my reward?
If it's after 31 August 2025 and you still haven't received your digital Visa card, check your spam folder first. If it's not there, contact Finder's customer service team with the email you used to sign up.

Other important stuff
This offer is run by Finder (Hive Empire Pty Ltd, ABN: 18 118 785 121).
The reward is fulfilled by Blackhawk Network. Their terms apply too.
Finder may earn a commission if you switch through our service - but we're here to help you choose what's right for you.
Always check HBF's terms and conditions and privacy policy before signing up.
We may change or end this offer at any time. The latest terms will always apply.

Says "You've received another HBF promo, save offer or corporate discount in the past 12 months", would be a great deal if it stacks.

    • +2

No - you can't combine this reward with any other HBF promotion

Yet Finder's results advertise both 14 weeks free and the $500 voucher

      • I can’t seem to find this. What do you type in on Finder’s search bar?

      • +12

I just checked with their chat support, they confirmed the 14 weeks stacks

        • Thanks. I was just about to sign up without it applied. I'll ask them myself so I can take a screenshot as proof.

        • I asked the same and they said they weren't aware of the finder offer and you would only get the 14 weeks if signing up on the hbf page directly

          • @zootgoot: Given the $500 offer is from Finder, I'll try asking them.

Edit: Seems impossible to contact them. I've tried via Facebook.

    • +1

i can not see the $500 cashback words anymore, offer ended?

      • Missed this one? The $500 reward is no longer available, but you can still compare health insurance and find a great deal.

  • +5

fyi, HBF doesn't offer age based discount. I lost my 10% discount permanently because I switched and stayed with HBF for more than 60 days.

    • +1

I lost my 10% discount permanently

Isn't it only available to people between 18 & 29 anyway? I wouldn't call it "permanently".

      • I just googled now and learnt that the discount may be retained until age 41 -

As of 1 April 2019, insurers can offer people aged 18–29 years discounts of up to 10 per cent of their private health insurance hospital premiums. People will retain that discount until they turn 41, when it will be gradually phased out.

        https://www.privatehealth.gov.au/health_insurance/surcharges…

        • Yes, the discount can be retained until 41. I initially had a 10% discount but switched to HBF when I was 29. After switching, I lost the 10% discount and only got the 2% since. lost 8% for 11 years, which amount to 10k easily.

Reading terms, you have to stay an active member until reward is fullfilled : on or before 31 August

Maintain Eligible Cover until the Reward is fulfilled

    And

Fulfilment of the Reward will be made on the following date: on or before 31 August 2025

    • +2
      • As i said, 31 August.
Confirmed by the email they sent today

The Finder HBF Health Insurance Switching Promotion ended on 6.00pm AEST 19 May 2025.

        What happens next?

        • Finder will confirm your eligibility (find them here) for the Reward on or before 14 July 2025.
        • If we confirm your eligibility, then we will send you the Reward on or before 31 August 2025.
        • You must maintain Eligible Cover until the Reward is fulfilled (31 August 2025).
        • Finder sent emails out?

        • Yep they have made the rules much clearer now. Fortunately it will still be profitable even with the extra premiums

  • +5

At least this promo is not "up to $500" like others but a fixed $500.

  • Eligibiity date is 14th July. Would it okay to sign up now but start the policy say July 10?

    • +1

Complete a quote through Finder, then sign up and START your cover via the HBF site between 15–21 May 2025

      Maybe not.

    • +1

Complete a quote through Finder, then sign up and start your cover via the HBF site between 15–21 May 2025

  • When switching will my old one be closed automatically? or I still need to contact old health insurance?

    • +2

It's usually automatic. They'll likely call to confirm / try to win you back.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • +1

Anyone know if you can come off a see-u policy onto this and get the reward?
    They're HBF but not HBF

    • +2

Ask on chat, if they say yes, keep a copy of transcript as evidence in case you don’t get bonuses

    • Did you get an answer on see u eligibility

  • +1

Anyone having issues with the HBF quote being higher than the finder.com.au quote, for the same policy?

    • +1

Mine was cheaper on HBF compared with Finder.

    • Mine was the same

  • Could anyone provide a feedback on HBF? Im currently with Medibank which is more expensive

    • +1

I mean, what feedback so you want? You have Google.

    • +1

Generally easy to deal with but are expensive given their gap/pay out rates unless you use a preferred provider. Dominate the market in WA so an okay bet if you’re there.

  • +1

@YesPleaseThankYou thoughts on this? You're the resident churning expert

    • +3

Not looking at it closely, as I've churned to Medibank.

If the numbers and the terms stack up, go for it.

  • +1

Thanks OP for the deal share, upvoted. That said, in my personal opinion, the founder of Finder is such a mega-cringe crypto-bro performative personality that I find it difficult to support them as a company.

I'm confident if you contacted HBF directly and shared the promotion details that they would match & likely be a better deal eg. don't wait for Finder to send you a visa, instead get a direct discount on the insurance.

  • Hmm is it worth resetting my cover limits in July with one of the insurers who do that or take this up.

    • Only you can make that decision.

    • You can reset anytime after july. After this offer ends move on to another

    • But finder links you to HBF to sign up

  • For those asking if the free weeks stack

If Finder doesn't explicitly state the free weeks, you won't get them.

Funds typically run different offers through different sales channels (direct vs something like Finder or CTM).

    • I'm in QLD and in the Finder site it seems to include both the 14 weeks free AND the $500
      https://www.finder.com.au/health-insurance/hbf-health-insura…

      • Looks good to go then!

        • I'm not so sure. They are both shown, but they could claim it doesn't mean both are applicable. They direct you to the T&Cs, which aren't favourable for stacking.

          • @puffinfresh: This is how it works

            • Finder directs you to HBF via an affiliate link. They get a comission from HBF for each successful sign up post cooling off period

            • HBF completes the signup on their end, applies the free weeks.

            • Finder gets the referral affiliate report from HBF. They compare the name you provided to them on signup with the affiliate report

            • If your name is within the report during the promo period , they will issue a $500 gift card

            • @easternculture: Can you be certain that the affiliate rate doesn't change based on applied promotions? Much like using an unapproved coupon code on a cashback website.

              • @puffinfresh: They would have been sent the regular affiliate rate updates /t&c before they ran the promotion.

Or a special promo arrangment between HBF and Finder headoffice that CSR are not aware of or have not read the email memo sent thu/Fri afternoon. Happens alot in workplaces.

Exactly how econnex is able to provide gift cards that stack with energy offers. Each promo is seperate and from a different company

                • @easternculture:

They would have been sent the regular affiliate rate updates /t&c before they ran the promotion.

Which could be why the T&Cs for the $500 offer say:

Can I claim this offer if I've used another HBF promotion? No - you can't combine this reward with any other HBF promotion

It's all speculative. There's nothing to confirm either way.

                  • @puffinfresh: Ah well. Have the screen shot showing 2 promos together on finder page. If i dont get it, fair trading it is

                    • +1

@easternculture: I've gone for it. On second reading, it sounds like it only applies to HBF promotions you've USED in the past 12 months since the list of things that make you not eligible says:

You've received another HBF promo, save offer or corporate discount in the past 12 months.

                      I have not.

The FAQ further down seems to only relate to the above point:

Can I claim this offer if I've used another HBF promotion?
No - you can't combine this reward with any other HBF promotion, corporate discount or offer (except for the direct debit discount). If you've redeemed an HBF promotional or save offer in the last 12 months, you won't be eligible.

                      "…if I've used…" is different to "if I use"
Have I USED another promotion? No.
"… in the last 12 months" also references the past, not this current sign up.

  • All these promos for private health… And I can't switch from HBF to HBF 😭

  • To ensure it stacks, take a screenshot from Finder - it clearly lists both offers when displaying options, and you have no way of opting out of the 14 weeks.

Ergo, they can't reasonably deny it.

    • +1

There is a "No thanks" option on the HBF website when the 14 week offer pops up

  • +1

    To crunch the numbers

Cheapest combined cover as a single NSW is $25.12/wk
    25.12*5 = $125.6 total outlay
Followed by 6 weeks free taking you to 4th August (i.e. after 14th July eligibility check)
    Earn $500 visa gift card
    = $374.4 profit

Assuming taking it as a new cover you'll also make it to the 2 month waiting period items, so that could be some optical items or massages etc covered as well? May as well pay the extra $1.27/wk extra (=$6.35) for the next level up extras cover to get much better inclusions

    • +1

You also do get the cover, so your estimate is conservative.

    • First time signing up for health insurance. When should I cancel the policy? edit: do you have to give notice, is there any pro-rata refund?

      • No noticed required, you get pro-rata refund.

  • Just spoke with someone at HBF and they say they are not a 100% sure if both Finder and 14 weeks free offer will stack up because they do not work for Finder. They mentioned if during the sign up process we are getting the eligibility for 14 weeks free then that's only what JBF can guarantee

  • Is there any downside to churning health insurance? I’ve been with AIA since forever but I’m keen to save some extra $$ if I can but surely I’m missing something otherwise wouldn’t everyone just switch health insurance every year?

    • +2

Is there any downside to churning health insurance?

Many threads discuss the pros and cons.

I’ve been with AIA since forever

Sad. You have been paying the loyalty tax.

I can but surely I’m missing something otherwise wouldn’t everyone just switch health insurance every year?

I churn between 4 and 6 times per annum.

    • No. I have been switching twice a year for last 5 years and had no issues. My wife and daughrer even had couple of day surgeries in private hisital during this time with no issues

  • +1

I requested a quote and directly next to each other within each table:

    Get $500 from Finder
    Ends at 11.59pm 21st May 2025. T&Cs apply.

Get up to 14 weeks free. For new members who join by 17 July and maintain hospital and extras cover. T&Cs apply.

  • When it says switch, does that mean I have to cancel my existing policy, or can I hold two policies at once?

    • I don't think you're able to hold two policies at once

      • Your allowed to

        • *you're

        • Can you claim the government discount on both?

    • Yep, didn't chance it in case there is a term that precludes a claim for holding multiple policies (think I read something with NIB once).

      • My view is that you are not permitted to hold concurrent policies - this is a hotly debated topic.

        • For extras, is it only an issue if you attempt to claim the same reimbursement/govt discount from both policies?
Otherwise stacking policies should be okay right? It's at your own cost anyway.

          • @SaveTheManuals: Nah, you still get the gov discount on both policies simultanously

            • @easternculture: In my case I am referring to having 2 Extras policies only, i.e. my existing AHM Extras + HBF Hospital + Extras. I checked with AHM on live chat and they said that I'm allowed to have multiple Extras policies as long as I only claim once per health service.

I didn't check about multiple Hospital cover policies but I agree that part would be more questionable.

  • +7

Just remember (for the 14 weeks free):

    • 6 weeks free cover will be applied to your policy after 31 days from the start of your policy.
    • 4 weeks free cover will be applied to your policy after 13 months from the start of your policy.
    • 4 weeks free cover will be applied to your policy after 26 months from the start of your policy.

    • +2

Hopefully OzBargainers aren't stupid enough to stay after the initial 6-week free period.

      • +2

To get the $500 gift card you need to stay until July 14.

        • +2

31 days from today is 19 Jun, and after 6 weeks free, it'd be well over the 14 July, so his comment makes sense

  • How does it work with waiting periods, I was told two different things when I was looking to switch to bupa from medibank

If I were to switch with x amount of dental coverage with medibank, I wouldn't have to serve the waiting period for that equivalent coverage. But the bupa rep told me if I switch to a higher coverage my waiting period would be waived because I was already covered, but would I be covered up to that higher amount?

  • +3

Well my free weeks with union health ended yesterday so very good timing

  • I have had "see-u by HBF" health insurance in the last 12 months. I cant see anything in the terms and conditions regarding see u eligibility. Anyone else?

    • I have had "see-u by HBF" health insurance in the last 12 months. I cant see anything in the terms and conditions regarding see u eligibility. Anyone else?

      The posted terms state:

Be a new HBF customer or not have held an HBF policy in the last 12 months (excluding dependants coming off a family policy)

Perhaps you should've gone to Specsavers?

      • See u Health Insurance was purchased by HBF but its still seperate.

        • +1

OK, maybe I should have gone to Specsavers 😂

  • Can anyone please confirm if "Basic Hospital Accident Only" covers medicare levy?

  • -1

Is this $500 for single cover? If we’re a couple, can we submit 2 separate covers for $500 x 2? 🤔

  • Is it worth just taking this policy even if I am partway through another offer? Hold 2x PHIs

    • See my comment above. Holding two PHI policies is a grey area but some insurers specifically preclude recovery. Gotta check T&Cs.

      • Ive held 2 at same time in multiple occasions. No issues at all as long as you dont claim same extras with both

        • Just because you have held them, doesn't make the practice legal or otherwise authorised by the funds.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: Well obviously tax office knew about it and was not given any warning about it.

Also multiple funds confirmed i was able to keep old policy active and claim on both (as long as item is not the same) when i had a few days or weeks left of free period

            • @easternculture:

Also multiple funds confirmed i was able to keep old policy active and claim on both

              The funds' interests are self-serving.

Someone can have a read of 'Division 22—PHIIB, PHII benefit and related concepts' in the Private Health Insurance Act 2007 (Cth) and related regulations so we can settle this argument once and for all.

Suffice to say that I am sure that it was not the government's intent that people hold multiple policies and claim the Australian Government Rebate on those multiple policies.

    • Why on earth would you hold multiple policies?

  • I don't see Basic Accident Hospital as an option even though its in the Ts and Cs, is anyone else not seeing it?

    • Didn't show up for me either on Finder. It does come up on HBF but for me it's only $1 a week cheaper so I'll just go with Hospital Basic Plus to not potentially miss out on the $500.
