  • good deal for a budget phone with decent specs! :) ta

    • sadly only vegan blue available, but bought nonetheless, don't want to miss out!

      • +3

Damn I'm a meat eater. GSM Arena.

        • +1

Well they call it 'leather' so i take that as a meat!

    • -1

Anyone, pls share a link with RELIABLE stock-availability in-AU, thanks

  • Australian stocks? Got one from HN but it's 1 Sim and 1 E Sim. Can't fit 2 physical sim cards in.

    • I believe all Australian stock are 1 Physical + 1 eSIM (second slot is for Memory card).

    • +1

Gerry Harvey is quite a slot.

    • -1

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? (You know that joke). Anyway, you should NEVER ever buy anything from HN. Read up on it. Always try to get a matching price from someone else. If it doesn't work. Still don't buy. Just wait for another deal.

  • +1

I'm a bit of a fan of the moto phones, but most of ours have cracked screens.(Even with protectors) Switched to Samsung and haven't had an issue. I don't think the moto screens are as strong.

    • Same. I dropped my phone on the carpet and the screen cracked, even with a glass protector on

      • +3

Get a case with corner bumper.

        • Have them. Have gotten one that seems much sturdier for the latest phone, guess I'll see how it goes.

    • +4

Cant relate, have the moto fusion 30 and have dropped it….. hundreds of times and no issures at all, maybe i got lucky, or that aprticular version has a strong screen :)

      • +1

Maybe just the moto g? Given they are a budget line?

        • +1

Interestingly GSM arena says they have the same protection that being Corning Gorilla Glass 5 but Fusion is the P-OLED vs the moto G being IPS LCD, maybe theres a stength difference there ?

Im unsure as i dont know that much re strength….

          Google says

          P-OLED Durability:
P-OLED displays utilize a plastic substrate, which provides greater flexibility and resistance to damage compared to the glass substrate commonly used in IPS LCDs. This makes P-OLED more durable and resistant to cracks from drops or impacts.
          IPS LCD Durability:
While IPS LCDs are generally reliable and can last for years with proper care, they are more prone to cracking or damage from falls.

          • @TerryJustTerry: So when you drop it and smash the glass touch screen, the OLED display still works.
Unfortunately, they are bonded together in modern phones so you can't replace the glass separately.

            • @bargaino: Ive just gotten cheap replacements from ali express and changed them, only LCD though unfortunately, but fine for the kids phones.

            • @bargaino: No, it just has never smashed the glass touchscreen. I have it in a similar case to this, which offers very minimal protection for the screen, and I have a plastic screen protector on it.

I have dropped it "butter side down" dozens of times accidentally and it has never been a problem. Additionally I have dropped it and it has landed on a corner or side more times than I can count and still no issues. I am not proposing people should do this, I am only saying what I have done.

      • I just replied directly to wisc below. Me and Masterio233 have heavily abused our G51s and our phones have stood up. Mine finally cracked but I reckon any phone would've cracked the way I dropped it onto tiles, no cover or screen protector apart from the soft cover that comes with the phone that only protects the back and sides from scratches.

    • +1

This is mainly an issue with phones that have a curved edge. I haven't heard of people complaining about the budget motos that don't have that feature

    • Just give it a bit of time. You'll probably break the samsung as well. Anyway, mine don't break. My kids' do. They always break the glass. When I used to work for Telstra I had this shitty phone (was almost top of the range, but shitty for me) with ms operating system. Got sick of it after a year, wanted an android, wanted a new one. Threw it onto the ground, nothing. Repeated about five times. Seriously. Wouldn't break. Then took the hammer to it. First try, nothing. Finally broke it on the second try. Haha. Whatever that screen was, it was better than anything "fancy" these days. I'm sure they fazed it out straight away. It was too good, can't make money out of it.

    • Further to all the replies, me and Masterio233 had the G51 which I bought for $199. It's a budget phone unlike this G75 which is more of a mid-tier phone. Everyone calls it a budget phone because of the sale price which is not indicative of its true category. Anyway, the cheap G51 suffered a lot of abuse before I cracked the screen and even then, it still worked fine. I only upgraded because the cracked screen messed with my barcode scanning. Masterio233 also abused his G51 and it never broke. You can see here how impressed he is with the durability of the G51. We both are and we both decided independently to upgrade to the G75. I'll stick to Motorola phones forever at this rate.

  • Perfect timing for kids birthday, cheers OP.

Any feedback on the camera and general daily use?

    • +14

after 2 weeks daily usage, coming from a samsung s20fe (which suddenly died in green screen…), the g75 is:
      - superb battery life, about 2 days without gaming but almost everything else, including youtube short videos
      - not as good camera, certainly worse than s20fe or even beloved LG v50, and barely improved even with google camera app (tried 3 variants, same mediocre result)
      - mostly works smoothly and quickly, no noticeable lag compared to s20fe on all general daily apps
      - the NFC works ok too
      - haven't tried e-sim but having 500gb of full-res audio & video is great

      • Thank you for all the after used feedback!

      • Any chance you can do a WIFI speed test between the two? (Deliberately go as far from your router as possible).

        • can't do it as my s20fe is dead… the wifi speeds on g75 seem ok

          • @mtrkr: If you're handy you can buy replacement screens on Aliexpress.

I'm sure there's an instructional vid on YT.

            • +1

@WatchNerd: I repaired the S20 Fe screen with parts from AliExpress. Surprisingly easy.
However I've recently replaced it with a Motorola Edge 50 Neo which I reckon has been a superb replacement.

              • @NorthPort: Great, I recently replaced my S20 FE bulging battery (bought this one).

Watch a YT vid & it was pretty easy. Seems to be working good so far, only a couple of weeks.

      • yeah i want this phone to replace my pixel, but nothing comes close to camera quality on the Pixel phone.

      • A there much involved in getting gcam working on it? No need to root or anything?

        • +1

          no rooting, just installing apps

        • +3

GCamator from Play Store will install the appropriate version for your phone model

    • +3

Agree with everything mtrkr said, it's snappy in performance but the big letdown for me is the camera.

I still have it but in hindsight I wish I got something better since I travel a fair bit and so camera is important.

You have to keep very still to take a decent shot, moving objects come out blurry etc.

      • yes, thinking the same way now as i could rely on the s20fe cam, sometimes enabling pix comparable (sometimes) to my usual dslr… the LG v50 was best but it got cancelled by that notorious 3G shutdown etc. But this g75 is really not good enough in photography, alas. Are there any other options for $500 or less, even used?

        • Well I came from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro (2021) which is a flagship Xiaomi but I mistakenly thought the g75 camera would be better since it's 3+yrs of tech…lol

Anywaye if I was looking at sub 500 again I'd look at Xiaomi again

          • @montorola: We all would, but how can you know it will not be black listed? Hence now we are stuck with Motorola paying similar money for lesser specs. Anyway, I've had the g75 for about 6 months now. Really happy with it. Paid $350 for it. The speaker is better and louder than most samsungs (my friend is jelous), camera is good for me, although I don't take many pics. Takes sd cards. Has a decent size screen, a bit small for me (had an xiaomi max 1 and 3). The only thing it's missing is the headphone jack (will cost you at least another $20) and I would prefer dual sim instead of sim plus esim. esims are for the trendy people who don't mind getting ripped and paying 5 times the amount compared to a local sim when travelling, or they don't know better.

    Amazing deal
also comes with 5 yrs / 5 android version updates?
The included wireless moto buds sounds nearly as good as my Samsung pro buds which cost 2x more

Phone is basically $130 once you subtract wireless bud pricing.
There's nothing on the market even remotely close for the power and features you get on this phone.
    THIS IS A STEAL

    • +1

If that 5 years of updates is true then this definitely is an amazing deal!

I noticed users experiencing issues with NFC payments.True?

        • I purchased this phone in the last deal and the NFC has worked fine everywhere i have used it

        • No problem at all using NFC since getting it 2 weeks ago

        • I have been using it daily fine, apperently some international models had a problem but now fixed

      • Promised updates , the rest is up to Lenovo.

    • If you care about updates, you shouldn't be using any Motorola phone. They may promise updates on paper, but their budget and mid-range devices don't receive timely updates in reality.

      • +3

I had heard similar things a few years back, I decided to take a chance on an Edge 40 and I've been reasonably happy with the updates.

Looking through my history I have received 13 updates since late 2023, the longest gap between updates was 3 months, so far I've had 3 updates this year.

So not brilliant, but also not the horrific experience I was warned to expect. For the average user, considering the price, I would consider it acceptable.

      • They literally dropped 15 a few months back and has been patched every month since I brought mine

Last update was the May Security updates.

      • I do NOT care about any updates. Don't need them.

      • Moving forward, how many people will use their Motorola in 4th yr of ownership as their MAIN-phone-> 'If you care about updates, you shouldn't be using any Motorola phone'

        Moto G54: Android14 was suppose to be the 2nd & last-OS-update. Android15 was released & UN-expected, https://www.google.com/search?q=moto+g54+android+15+update+r…

    • For some reason I thought G75 would only get one major update. Just checked on Google, it was for G85. This really looks to be a steal. Too bad I went with Samsung A36 for $379 after getting OW to price beat Telstra just yesterday!

    • How?

      • i think he means that he gets the phone for $150, and someone else goes "halfsies" with him for the "Bonus: Moto Buds" for $80, which is slightly unrealistic.

        • You'll never know 😳

    • +2

Same situation, I don't want the moto buds and don't want to deal with selling it privately. I think no one will be buying the moto buds privately unless listed for ~$20.

I ve been hodling to get this price for a while, but as this deal is from ebay, I expect $205-225 deals from big retailers. It probably won't go below $200.

      • 175 sold just after lunch time. I reckon they won't be any more stock after this, grab while you can!

        • Now at 320 sold, refresh the page from time to time; I got one with the eBayPlus coupon long after there was "no stock". Now, let's hope they deliver.

  • I have access to 5g telstra wholesale, but using 4g phone. Would this phone speed up the download?

    • This is a 5G phone.

  • looks like only blue is in stock now

  • Do these come with a case (some Motorola phones do, I think)?

    • +3

Yes it comes with a clear case.

  • +1

I have seen this phone deal posted so many times here. So, I bought it. I already have a Pixel 9 Pro XL.

    • +1

      I don't understand your comment?

  • Will this receive updates for a while?
I’m after an android phone that’s just used for banking and a few random apps. Current phone is out of security update period. Doesn’t need to be fast but cheap and updates if that’s a thing.

    • Refer to above comment:

Keep up with the latest version of Android by getting five OS upgrades—and six years of security updates—guaranteed through 2029.

      • Thanks - I somehow missed this …

Is this the cheapest phone I can get with that many years of security?

        • +1

Would be pretty close to it if not

    • Quick search on google says 5 android OS upgrades and 6 years security update.

    • -1

It doesn't matter about your phone and your phone "security" on your phone. It's all about your bank's security. I got hacked recently, and so did my old man (he doesn't have any bank apps on this phone). If they wanna hack you, they will. The banks are always behind. It will never be from your phone, it will be from your internet banking if you have an online account. So stop worrying about "phone security". Just remember one thing from my post. If you get hacked and you're bank doesn't wanna pay it back ( like nab, cba and anz were ok) contact AFCA and then the bank will refund you quick smart.

Use Macquarie 3% off gift card, paid for $223.39, been waiting and waiting, finally bought it blue color

    • +2

      Forgot the GC. Rookie error

      • +1

3% cashback as well on TCB, paid with CC. Macq needs cash for the GC.

        • promo code isn't listed for cashback though

  • Good deal, bought 1. Missed out on previous deal. Glad this one is better than last time.

  • Can we price match with The Good Guys?

  • +3

Another good phone deal under $250. In fact, no phone should be over 250 bucks.

    • +4

The main difference is the camera & stupid glass backs which make the phone heavier & another thing to break.

Give me a plastic back any day.

      • +4

this one has vegan leather back, unbreakable unless you chew on it.

    • +1

For some phones $250 is just enough for storage upgrades 😆

  • +2

    Camera sucks!

  • Is there a bottom?

    • Around $200 I guess. I am still hodling for bigw or officeworks eofy deal on this phone.

      • I would say 180 in the next 4 weeks

        • Wow

      • HODLLL

    • +1

      yes: bottom

      • +1

        Hahahaahha

    • Seems like people are grabbing them: fomo & hence NO need for Moto-AU to subsidies retailers with larger-discount. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/motorola-moto-g75

      Re-living Moto-G54?

  • Bugger. Just got from TGG. I bought the blue color.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/905614

    • Mine also got delivered today, sad times.

  • -6

Using this phone now. Just be careful:
    DON'T install Security Update
It will drain the battery quickly and slow down the system
