Exetel rebranding and simplifying their offering by the looks with only one plan.

nbn FTTP or HFC only.

Update: Exetel can organize the nbn FTTN/FTTC to FTTP upgrade (selected locations).

One Plan 500/50 $80/month ongoing (1000/100 for an extra $1/day)
Typical evening speed: 500/40Mbps
Unlimited Data
BYO router
Designed for 2-6 person households

Hibernate
Going on a holiday or taking a tech break? Dial your internet speed down and save $1 /day when you don’t need it—giving you peace of mind and extra savings while you’re offline.

Warp speed
For an additional $1/ day you can upgrade your internet speed up to 1000Mbps anytime you want. Need to download a big file in a hurry or binge watch a streaming series in 4K? Go for Warp Speed. TES: 860/85Mbps.

Cancelling Your Internet Service
Want to cancel your service? There’s no need to give us 30 days’ notice – though you’ll be charged for the rest of the billing cycle. For example, if your cycle starts on the 1st and you cancel on the 14th, you'll be charged for the full month. Alternatively, you can choose to ride out the service until the end of the billing cycle.

Once you set your cancellation date, any Warp Speed fees or Hibernate credits from that cycle will be added to your final bill which can be paid via the app. After everything is processed, we’ll send you a receipt.

Payment Information
A payment verification charge of $1 may be debited from your account at the time of sale. This will be credited back to you on your first invoice. Payments made by Credit card incur a 1% transaction fee. You can avoid this fee by selecting to pay via PayTo. This option is available in your Exetel app after order confirmation, under Payment and Invoices.

Carrier Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT) and IPv6

Currently, Exetel does not offer the option to provide a public IPv4 address or disable CG-NAT on our broadband plans, including the Exetel One internet plan. All new broadband services are provisioned with CG-NAT by default.

Exetel uses a dual stack setup, which means you get both IPv4 (via CG-NAT) and IPv6. Here’s what this means for you:

  • Your devices and services will work with both older (IPv4) and newer (IPv6) internet technologies.
  • IPv6 is ready for the future and supports modern websites, cloud services, and smart home devices.
  • Some online games and services may perform better or have lower latency with IPv6.

Most customers don’t need to do anything—your modem and devices usually support IPv6 automatically. If you want to check your IPv6 compatibility, you can visit the test-ipv6.com page.

IPv6 will be enabled by default on the plan shortly and retroactively applied to everyone who has taken up the plan. If you disconnect/reconnect you should be dual stack.

    Thanks for sharing.

Existing excetel customer, so far, so happy with them😃

    • +14

Since you didn't have a STATIC IP with your previous plan, you would be happy but from what I have just been told from Exetel Devs who went live with this new plan.

      1. No Static IP for new users (not even if you pay $$$)
      2. CGNAT by default (call to change)
      3. Current users's plan will be cancelled and all speedboost forfeited.
      4. Any current discounts you have, will not be transferred to the new plan $80 it is.
      5. May be worth noting, Exetel use PPPoE for their FTTP.

Keep in mind all ISPs will have access to this plan in the next month or Sept at latest due to NBN upgrading speeds at wholesale level. From the way this sounds, it is a "fully automated" plan complemented by the updated Exetel app.

Lucky I didn't switch, would have lost my free static IP!

      • +5

Exetel use IPoE for new connections, have for months.

      • I have static IP with current plan, should retain it no?

        • +1

I was an existing Exetel customer with a static IP. Switched to the new plan today and was put on CGNAT. When I messaged support, they could allocate a different static IP for $5 per month.

      • +10

You can’t get out of CGNAT

So the CIS says can opt out. But the agent both online chat and phone has said it’s a mistake in the CIS and there is no option to opt out.

All new services will be CGNAT only with no ability to turn it off.

Very disappointed the CIS is incorrect and they won’t honour it.

        • In the same boat here….I asked for a refund but I need to change to another plan first before cancelling Exetel. The live chat agent said I could get refund.

          • @gazzas: why does this matter?

            • +5

@Rukiata: If you are asking about CG-NAT, it's because I host a couple of servers at home (home automation, file sharing, IP cameras etc) and I need to access them externally via reverse proxy. To make it work, a public IP address is required. I know there're other ways to get around CG-NAT. I just didn't want to mess around with my setup that already works. So I need CG-NAT gone.

        • looks someone said you can https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16682458/redir
          can you try this out?

          • +1

            @hongd: They definitely don't allow opting-out of CGNAT now…

  • +2

Another early offering with the new NBN 500/50 plans. Watching with interest. Just also saw the Leaptel offer

    • What is Leaptel offering?

      • +1

after seeing this offer, I saw this Leaptel one. But on looking at it again it's a bit different and more for those going from FTTC to Fiber
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/908884

        • +6

          I’m on 100/20 with leaptel for $65/m. Was $90 then discounted $10 + $15.
Upgraded to FTTP and expecting 500/20 upgrade in September for free.
Not tempted to upgrade now for $15 extra.

          • +3

@ts13: I thought the 100/20 was upgrading to 500/50 for free?

          • +2

            @ts13: https://www.nbnco.com.au/corporate-information/media-centre/…

FTTP upgrade will go from 100/20 to 500/50 btw not 20 up

But you're right at $65 Id hold

          • +1

            @ts13: Wait for 500/50 @ Leaptel.

No action is needed, and your monthly bill will remain the same.

            • -3

@Twix: only problem its leaptel :P

          • +2

@ts13: 100/20 listed as $79.95 Leaptel site. How did you get it for $65.00?

            • @Harrygw: 100/20 $64.95/m @ Leaptel has expired.

              Swap from FTTN/FTTC to FTTP with a $0 installation + 100/20 $69.95/m for 12 months.

          • @ts13: How do you get the ongoing $10+15 discount?

        • +1

Same deal here, free upgrade to 500/50.

        • Yeah Leaptel's doing 500/50 if you swap from FTTN/FTTC to FTTP (eligible locations).

Exetel 500/50 is for premises already on FTTP and HFC. Exetel want you to use Superloop to swap from FTTN/FTTC to FTTP.

Many providers will have 500/50 FTTP and HFC from September.

          • @Twix: seems like you can now place orders for FTTN with this plan.

            • @longislandviper: 500/50 is for FTTP and HFC @ Exetel.

Exetel are not doing new signups for FTTN and FTTC.

Your connection is Fibre To The Node
Unfortunately, our internet plan is not available for this address. The good news is that our friends at Superloop offer a wide range of affordable internet plans that would suit your address.

              • +1

@Twix: Looks like its working now

Great news! Your address qualifies for a FREE* fibre upgrade to the broadband nbn network.

Your address is using old copper wiring which can't handle these new speeds. We need to upgrade you to fast fibre so you can access The One Plan.

*Free standard fibre upgrade only. See T&Cs for more information.

                • @gsmooth: I now get the same FTTN/FTTC to FTTP message. Thanks for the update.

  • +1

Handed in my 30 day notice to cancel recently. Guess I'm staying w/ exetel

  • +1

Somewhat tempting to give Exetel another run now that my Leaptel discount has expired.

Any idea how easy it is to opt out of cgnat (and if ipv6 is available)?

    • +2

not sure about ipv6 as I don't use it, but I hopped on live chat about opting out of cgnat just after I signed up, they were pretty active and got it done within a few minutes.

      • +1

So I'm a little confused at the conflicting info here. Others are saying you can't opt out of CGNAT on this plan.

Did you successfully opt out on this one or a previous plan?

        • +1

sorry, I've successfully opted out of CGNAT before with Exetel, but I've been reading posts since writing this comment which makes it seem as if Exetel aren't letting you opt-out on this plan. Really unfortunate for those of us who selfhost a little Jellyfin server or anything like that on our residential connections, I'll just have to stick to leaptel going forward it seems

    • -3

Exetel didn't use CGNET if they do now opt out. They also don’t use IPV6 just IPV4. You should be able to get a static IP not sure if they will charge extra but I’ve had one with them for years on residential plan.

      • my bad I always had static IP with them and when I signed up they didn't use CGNAT, now they do with all plans.

    • You can use IPv6, I set it up

      • To be clear, this was on my old plan the new one plan doesn't support opting out of cgnat or IPv6. So I'm now a happy superloop customer.

    • +5

You can’t get out of CGNAT

So the CIS says can opt out. But the agent both online chat and phone has said it’s a mistake in the CIS and there is no option to opt out.

All new services will be CGNAT only with no ability to turn it off.

Very disappointed the CIS is incorrect and they won’t honour it.

    • +2

(can you please explain why one would want to opt out of cgnat? I'm not sure what it means)

      • I was with Spintel on CGNAT.
        Gaming was terrible with dropouts.
My Deco Mesh dropped out erratically all throughout the day.
Webpages didn't load, or failed in the first attempt.
Generally a frustrating billing cycle with these tech issues so I opted out at a minor extra charge to do so, per month.
CGNAT, from my experience, never again.

        • +4

Many providers use CG-NAT and CG-NAT shouldn't be causing router dropouts and webpages not loading. Some online games work as normal with CG-NAT. Turn off CG-NAT if you want to host online P2P games.

The problem some users have with Spintel is one POP in Sydney and Optus backhaul.

          • +1

@Twix: That's good to know, Cheers.

          • @Twix: What is POP?
How would you know Spintel has one POP?
Currently with Spintel, thinking to change to this. How many POP Exetel has?

            • +1

@racingmiku: A PoP, or as the NBN calls it POI, is essentially an exchange/server/ hardware location where your internet traffic connects to your NBN provider.

            • +1

@racingmiku: By running a traceroute to see the path it takes. If you live in Perth your Spintel web traffic takes the scenic route to Sydney.

Exetel (Superloop network) has a few local POPs in Perth.

        • Just changed to Exetel the other day and got a weird issue that;s similar. If any device in the house is not used for an hour or so, the first time the device is used again, web pages don’t load, the internet doesn’t seem to work for 30 seconds – 1 minute

For example if I put my phone down for a while then pick it up and do a google search in Safari, google just wont load and I’ll get a network service error. Try again in 30 seconds and it works fine

Also noticeable if I launch Instagram for the first time in a while, the feed and profiles won’t load. Give it a minute or so and works fine

I’ve changed DNS on router and devices to cloudflare, but issue persists. Any other suggestions?

          • @liamtu: If you've tried factory resetting your router then after that I'd ask Exetel to turn off CG-NAT on your account and see how that goes, they may charge you a little extra though.

      • +9

Exetel use CG-NAT which works fine for most users. CG-NAT can break remote access to some home security cameras, some home automation products, Plex server, NAS, servers or if you want to host online P2P games. When you turn off CG-NAT you will be able to use remote access and host online P2P games again. Leave CG-NAT turned on if you don't do any of this.

If your home security cameras and automation products use a cloud server you will not be affected by CG-NAT.

        @keeperofthegood @bargainbosun @shakir99

        • +1

I access my home security cameras via app, it always is accessible from superloop. Previously was with exetel and was the same.

          • @sajidmib: Same here but yeah it depends if the camera NVR is configured for a local or cloud server.

        • -3

So what are the actual negatives of cgnat?

          • @serpserpserp: CG-NAT can break remote access and doesn't let you host online P2P games. If you don't do any of the things I mentioned you won't be affected by CG-NAT.

      • +4

You kinda don't get a real IP address. It's a LAN inception. Your LAN is on their LAN, and their LAN connects to the internet.

So you can't run a gaming server, for example, because everyone on their LAN has the same internet IP address.
Additionally, you can't connect to home security cameras, and NAS servers can't link together if you have a backup offsite.
Basically anything where you're away from home and want to link back to something in your house. That's essentially broken.

Actually, gaming usually sucks because of the increased latency of the additional network translation step.

It's because they don't use IPv6, and IPv4 has run out of addresses.

    • You can opt out of CGNAT to get a dynamic IP for free.

Since joining exetel on Feb 1 I have had only 1 IP change, and that was after planned maintenance

EDIT After calling and confirming, the agent said that the new plan has NO option to opt out of CG-NAT.

However, I'm currently on their 100/20mbps legacy plan, which the agent mentoined is still elegible for the upgrade to 500 down in September

  • -1

Hows this compare to more nbn?

    • Similar service but More NBN changed it's CommBank discounts and are much less than they used to be so it's got better deals out with other ISP's now even if you have a home loan with CommBank with the higher CommBank Yello Rewards discount (e.g $30 off on the $100 100/20 Plan = $70/month vs Southern Phone $65/month on 100/20 Plan for 12 months).

      • Speed wise? Speed i dont care, buffering and latency wise?

        • Exetel is owned by Superloop who are considered to be quite good in that regard so I would say Exetel would be a bit better than More NBN in that regard but still relatively similar.

      • +1

Yeah my discount ran out at More so I got only a 10% off on the latest bill. Even with $30 off this is still cheaper so I just put the order in with exetel. Hopefully I don’t have to pay the full month for More

  • +2

CARRIER GRADE NETWORK ADDRESS TRANSLATION (CGNAT)
Where CGNAT is available, your IP address will default to using CGNAT, unless you specifically request to opt out of CGNAT, which may be approved by Exetel in its discretion. When opting out of CGNAT, a dynamic public IP address will be assigned to the service.

    STATIC IP
A Static IP address is not available with these Exetel services.

    • +1

Their website says If you need to discuss your service or opt-out of CG-NAT, you can call our technical support staff on 13 39 38., is it possible to get static ip?

      • +6

        New customers = no.

A Static IP address is not available with these Exetel services.

        Existing customers = yeah.

If you are an existing Exetel customer with an existing Exetel static public IPv4 address you will retain this address.

        • -6

But can we opt-out CG NAT?
Then i can still use DDNS

          • +15

            @PeppaCat: What are you on?
Opting out is mentioned 7 times here including once in your own previous comment.

            • +4

@McFly: static IP is different with opt-out CG NAT.
Static IP means have an IP which never changed.
opt-out CG NAT means you'll get a public IPV4 IP, but this IP may change.

              • +1

@PeppaCat: It seems CGNAT can't be turned off on this plan after all, but my question still stands…

        • Good to know thanks.

        • +3

Update: Exetel has removed this static IP quote from the website. I don't know if they are going to allow it.

If you are an existing Exetel customer with an existing Exetel static public IPv4 address you will retain this address.

          @Preet @TheFreaK @BanannaMan

          • +1

            @Twix: Sneaky buggers

          • +2

@Twix: I just got told via Live chat that I'll lose my static IP address and will be forced into CG-NAT

            • @TheFreaK: Thanks for the update. I will update the deal soon.

            • @TheFreaK: Well that sucks. I'm on "free" static IP from legacy plan, basically the thing holding me back from jumping between honeymoon rates as it usually kills the deal if I add it anywhere else (if available at all).

With the recent price increase to $90 on my 100/20 plan guess I'll effectively be paying $10 for it anyway (once speeds are like for like)
Still got some months left of couple of referral discounts though so guess I've got time to wait and see what else comes about.

      • Is it must to opt out cgnat? Whats the benefit

        • +1

No. If you don't know what it is or what it does, you probably don't need to worry about it. The benefit is you get a dedicated public IP address, which is useful for some people.

          • -1

@PurchaseAnxiety: Thats called static ip and i like to have one. But many nbn provider do not provide. Cgnat is the similar thing then.

Thats why also have issues with my cctv cameras for viewing when outside.

            • +2

@Zeee: 'Dedicated' was probably the wrong word to use. You get a dynamic public IP, which can change at any time. A static IP doesn't change. So they're aren't same.

      • +3

You can’t get out of CGNAT

So the CIS says can opt out. But the agent both online chat and phone has said it’s a mistake in the CIS and there is no option to opt out.

All new services will be CGNAT only with no ability to turn it off.

Very disappointed the CIS is incorrect and they won’t honour it.

  • +4

Anyone gone to Exetel from Superloop? Tempting to put in my 30 days cancellation now

    • +1

i went superloop > leaptel > exetel over the last 2 years, the service with exetel is basically exactly the same thing as superloop since they've been bought (speed boosts and all that stuff, the online portal is the same thing with a different color scheme, same customer service). the only difference as far as I can tell, is that superloop offer gigabit while exetel is 500

    • +7

I'm with Superloop right now too, need to get out.

      • Same here.
I was considering going to Southern Phone for their 1000/50 deal of $85 for 12 months.
Using that as a stop-gap for when the eventual Black Friday deals come around and see if there is anything better around that time for 12 months.

    • With super loop at the moment but have their eero modem, do you know if it will work with Exetel? As the eero app is contended…

      • +5

eero is compatible with other providers as long as it's been paid off.

If a Customer cancels their services prior to the end of the 24 month term and does not pay the clawback fee, the Amazon eero 6+ router will be locked and will be unable to be used with any other retailer. It can be unlocked at any time by paying the outstanding clawback fee.

    • +2

      Same company, so no issues.

    • +2

Can't support superloop now they have a shitty 30 day notice period. Terrible policy to deal with.

      • MORE telecom have the same thing. I ported out one day after my new month started and then found they still had to charge me for the entire month.
my fault of course but I was pissed off.

        • It's not your fault, its a deliberately difficult policy to deal with and designed to extract money from busy people.

    • I just did. They hacked put their prices for 100/20 to $95. I called Superloop, they offered me a discount ($85 per month no lock in) on the 100/20. I asked them if they can change me over to Exetel (same contact number). The attendant did not know anything. So he agreed to wave the 30 day cancellation, and my service should be cancelled tomorrow. Let's see how does pan out.
I contracted Exetel and it was active in less than 15 min

      • That’s excellent. Keep us posted how it goes

    • I did the switch in Dec/Jan. Couldn't be happier.

I was getting so many micro dropouts with Exetel using ethernet and my Google Nest wifi router had issues holding stable connection. Switch to Superloop solved all issues.

    • I'm on Superloop 50/20 for $85 month. Saw this deal today. Went on live chat…couldn't offer me anything.

Rang up to ask about cancelling. They offered to upgrade me to 100/20 for $95 per month and add a $10 credit per month for 12 months…..so essentially upgrading at no cost. Advised that in Sept the 100/20 would be ugraded to 500/50 at same cost. $5 more per month than Exetel but will review again in a couple of months. I always seem to have problems when I churn an ISP or mobile carrier so I don't do it often.
