What's a good self powered enclosure? Don't know much about them.
Try and get an aluminium one to keep the drive cooler.
The actual usb/sata controllers are very mature now, your risks of getting a 'dud' are tiny.
Alright good to know.
What is the drive you'd recommend? From what I saw they are also quite pricey
I looked for some after missing last deal, but laptop 2.5' drives don't seem to be available as much. It seems SSD and NVME are more readily available.
I just paid $56/Tb for a SATA SSD, this price is absurd
Link :)
Depends what one is storing on there. Quality vs quantity 👌
Yep. ORICO using Intel NAND, which is slow but enterprise reliable.
Seagate on the otber hand…
Source? I cant find any info the Y20 uses Intel?
ill hold out for an SSD or drive in the prime day sales.
Nothing beat the 2tb SSD for $15 from a month ago
Where?
Did anyone actually receive those ?
Yes
This or SSD for long term archiving/back ups?
For true long-term offline storage, HDDs are generally more stable, as SSDs can suffer data loss if unpowered for extended periods.
Remember to power on HDD a few times a year at a minimum.
Choose drives known for low failure rates — e.g., WD Red/Gold, Seagate IronWolf, or HGST Ultrastar. All drives have failure rates.
Enterprise-grade or NAS-rated drives are better built for 24/7 longevity and durability.
It says out of stock
I remember a few years back my first ever post here for the 5TB one at $99.00. Happy days. Should have bought more. LOL
It’s bizarre to me that these prices just haven’t dropped at all. In fact, they’ve doubled.
They are making less of them, but all storage prices have gone up, regardless of HDD or SSD
Nah SSDs get cheaper every year
I remeber buying few for $69.
back again
Are these easily 'shuckable'?
As far as I know (unless something changed recently), all Seagate 2.5" drives are "easily" shuckable due to their standard SATA interface compared to Western Digital that moved to solder USB connection to all their portable drives.
OOS Already, got one this time. Thanks!
Why do these drives not come as USB-C, using adaptors is annoying
Available again.
$42.5/TB. Just buy a drive and self-powering enclosure.
