    Leaptel has this for $80

    • +3

Agreed, $79.95/month for 12 months, with auto upgrade to 500/50 in September too

      • +11

Yes 500/50 shouldn't be a marketing thing cos every retailers got it at no cost.

    • Is that deal available for current Leaptel customers?

      • +1

New and existing Leaptel customers swapping from FTTN/FTTC to FTTP can signup for 500/50 today.

Existing FTTP and HFC 100/20 customers boosts to 500/50 in September.

        • If it's only hfc available at the address does it still get upgraded to 500/50

          • +1

            @dealt: That's right.

Old Speed Tiers New Speed Tiers nbn Technology Type
            100/20 500/50 FTTP and HFC
            250/25 750/50 FTTP and HFC
            1000/50 1000/100 FTTP and HFC
            2000/100 HFC

            • @Twix: I really want the 2Gbps Day 1 but my NICs are all 1Gbps so my Wi-Fi 6E/7 will be the only thing that could use it. I don't even need it. I just want it.

              • @Guybrush57: I currently pay the premium price for the 1Gb plan, but I'm immediately dropping to the base plan on day 1 - there won't be any noticeable difference between 1Gb and 500Mb, and it'll save me money 💰

                • @Nom: Yeah and tbh I'll probably do that too. There is no loss of upload compared to what we have now (50Mbps) and I've noticed most servers cannot saturate 1Gbps anyway.

            • +2

@Twix: I wonder if HFC users will ever get a free upgrade to FTTP, like FTTN users do.

Oh sure, HFC is the next best thing, unless you live in a suburb where there are several outages each month, along with knockdowns, rebuilds, subdivisions, etc. so NBN Co. are constantly having to add more houses onto it.

There will come a point where HFC won't be able to cope with higher speeds.

Grrr. Don't mind me, just venting my frustration at NBN Co.

              • @Graffin: Ahh you’re living my life

              • @Graffin: nbn are improving the speed, capacity and reliability of HFC.

nbn want to keep using HFC beyond 2030 and has tested HFC for 8.7Gbps download and 1.5Gbps upload.

I hope nbn change their mind and swap HFC for FTTP.

              @Twix: Great post

  • +7

Exetel has a 500mpbs plan now for $80

    • +7

Be aware that the Exetel One plan has CGNAT IPv4 and a public facing IPv6, you can't opt out of CGNAT either.

      • +8

This is absolutely fine for 99% of OzBargainers.

        • 99.99%

        • +1

CGNAT didn't allow me to play Mario Kart online on my Nintendo switch. I would say more than 1% of ozbargainers have Nintendo switch 1 or 2, and play games online.

          • @CodeXD: Not all CGNATs are the same. Mario Kart (both 8 and World) online works fine for me with Superloop's CGNAT. MK 8 online didn't work with ABB's CGNAT.

      • is there any difference in CGNAT between different ISPs? I'm asking because I had to ask Tangerine to turn off CGNAT as I was having problem loading web pages. Once turned off, all went back to normal.

        • +3

CGNAT is the default for many internet service providers these days, if as a general rule CGNAT stopped webpages from loading it obviously wouldn't be used.

There were probably other factors at play as to why you couldn't get webpages loading, turning CGNAT off fixing the problem was either a coincidence or Tangerine realized and fixed an issue on their part that wasn't explained to you at the time.

  • Getting more and more frustrating knowing that they (NBN) just wont upgrade the unit I live in unless the owner PAYS to have them all upgraded to FTTP.

    • Same here 😔

      • It's very ridiculous.
Should be free to everyone by now.

    • How much they charging per premise?

        • Is your unit FTTN, FTTC or HFC?

          • @Twix: FTTC

            • @Originality: I doubt FTTC to FTTP will be $2k to $10k each for six units. Most likely $275 for each unit. The owner can apply here and a technician will come do a $0 quote.

I've seen FTTP unit quotes for…
              6, 8 and 12 units = $275 each.
              19 units = $1400 each.

      • FTTN/FTTC to FTTP in multi dwelling units are $275 each (sometimes more). All units must pay and get approval from the owner. nbn covers the rest.

FTTN/FTTC to FTTP is a $0 installation at most homes.

  • +14

This is not a deal. All 100/20 plan will upgrade to 500 for free in Sep.

    • +1

      Not all
I have Amaysim 100/18 ATM and they will not do it according to support.

      • +2

        Are you FTTP?

  • -1

No deal, most nbn 100/20 can be had for $65/69/70 at most (what i would pay)

    • Mate Internet is still $60 for 100/20. They have terrible reviews but a money back guarantee within the first month makes me want to give them a shot to see how bad they really are.

      • lol wth really

        ive gone around leaptel,

tangerine and dodo multiple times, and maybe a few others idk

        • +1

Let's be brave and give it a shot 🤣

      • Have a look at Southern Phone as well, they are doing 100/20 for $65 per month for 12 months - presumably this will be boosted to 500/50 in September.

If you stay with Southern Phone 12 months you'll also get a free router (TP-Link VX230v or Amazon eero 6+)

        https://www.southernphone.com.au/personal/broadband/nbn-broa…

        • Southern Phone chat told me they won’t be boosting the speed, they’ll offer new plans with new prices. Not sure how they’ll do this though as my assumption was that 100/20 will cease to exist for FTTP/HFC.

          • @playaz91: Disappointing if they don't boost to 500/50, still $65 for 12 months on 100/20 is pretty good.

  • +6

Not going to neg but agree with others. This is nothing special.

All NBN 100/20 is getting uprated to 500/50 soon, some have already started doing so - and $85pm for 100/20 is mediocre at best.

  • +2

Exetel already has 500/50 with a $100 cashback.

    • Where

      • +1

        Here: https://www.topcashback.com.au/exetel/

Forgot to mention it's $80/month ongoing.

        • And yet Exetel are still charging loyal customers $95/month for 100/40, not upgrading 500/50 till Sept, and still at $95. No option to switch to the new $80 plan :-(

          • @Buy2Much: You could churn to another provider for a month or less and then back to Exetel if you really want their plan.

            • @Cousin IT: Yes I have to do that but prefer not having to resort to it. Why can’t banks and telcos understand that it is easier and cheaper to keep customers than trying to entice new ones…

              • @Buy2Much: Update: if you are an existing customer, delete the old “My Exetel” app, install a new one “Exetel”. There should be an option there to switch your plan to the new 500/50 plan immediately!

          • @Buy2Much: That's why it's called a loyalty tax, not a loyalty bonus :)

  • Isnt Spintel better deal ?

    • Yep, but if you have trouble on the weekend and need to contact them good luck. There online chat is Pretty Useless also.

  • +1

Exetel any good? paying $79.95 for 100/20 with Leaptel, seems overs when Exetel are only $9 more for 1000/50.

    • +1

I came over to Exetel from Leaptel when my discounted period ended, haven't noticed any difference in the quality of the connection tbh, I guess that's a good thing.

Once we get uplifted to 500/50 in September the included 5 x monthly speed boosts are going to be 1000/100.

    • Exetel 500/50 is good for most users. 1000/50 is $1 extra a day. Note that it's CG-NAT and you can't turn off CG-NAT. Static IP is not available for new Exetel customers.

Existing Leaptel 100/20 customers boosts to 500/50 in September. Leaptel allows you to turn off CG-NAT and Static IP is available.

      • Interesting that the Exetel $1 boosts are only to 1000/50 and not 1000/100 in line with the NBN speed tier boost. As this can all get a bit confusing, I wonder if this is fact or maybe some sort of a typo on the upload speed by the person updating the website using the current TES as a reference.

        • Exetel and Neptune are buying 1000/50 from nbn and making it 500/50. There isn't any extra upload available.

I reckon Exetel will update the $1 boosts to 1000/100 in September.

    • I've found that for watching live streaming services, there's huge buffers (up to 20 second delays). Or it won't auto reconnect unless if you manually pause/play. But beyond that, it's ok for the value you get out of it. I recently came from More (Tangerine) Telecom. And everyone hates on Tangerine for some reason. Exetel has always been like that for me.

      • Tangerine did an Optus and failed to secure their customers' data. Not sure of another reason.

    • There ok, I've had similar experience with spintel. Not great, but not bad either considering the price. Will churn in 5 months anyway

  • +5

I won't say this is a deal, however I will 100% vouch for these guys and their service.

I'm on their 250/100 plan and consistently get above these speeds! Their network is not at capacity I assume. Which they do publish.

I switched from AussieBB to Neptune after Aussie wouldn't budge on price. Haven't had anything other than a good experience.

Here's my last speed test, unfortunately I'm not at home some can't do one right this second.

  • Was just about to pay leaptel an extra $10 a month for the static IP for my Plex server. Thank you OP.

  • off topic, but anyone know why this forum freezes up in safari, have a new M4 16/512gb MBA, have to force quit all the time, no other website does it.

    • Try Chrome

    • +1

Safari is terrible. Not by design, but because everyone test for Chrome.

Use Brave, turn off all the oddities and just be done with Safari.

Or use Firefox if you are that way enclined. Don't use Edge. It used to be good for a little while, but not now.

      • I do have brave but safari syncs with iPad and iPhone well

    • Safari let you watch youtube without ads.

      • rarely watch YT

    • Brave browser

  • try use promo WELCOME10

    • They killed this code before I could sign up - and won't honour it on live chat anymore. It reduced it further for first 6 months

  • +1

Exetel is $80 for 500/40 already

  • Can anyone tell me if I sign up now .how that one month notice to existing Exetel wửok? Thanks

    • You can set a start date of I remember correctly.

    • Although they say it can take up to 5 days to connect. It took 2 days for my connection, made a start date a month in advance.

If you go ahead with these guys read the email. It says on there the eta on connection. I didn't read any of the email because they sent so many.

  • +1

For about $117/month I’m getting 1000/50 with Launtel.

    • For $99 you could be getting 1000/50 with Buddy Telco, $104 if you want a static ip.

      https://www.buddytelco.com.au/

      • +1

Thanks. Yeah I know I can save a little shopping around, but pretty happy with Launtel so I’ll pay a little extra.

        • All good :-)

I did my 12 month FTTP upgrade with Launtel, I agree they are good.

Got to admit honestly as well that my subsequent time with LeapTel (12 months) and now with Exetel has been just as good as well.

          • +1

@shutuptakemymoney101: If the costs get too out of hand I’ll shop around, but just had bad experiences in the past. Now I’ve got 3 ISP’s on the list if that’s needed, cheers ;)

  • -1

Exetel already offers 500/50 for $80 now:

    https://www.exetel.com.au/broadband/nbn

  • Only like 2 POP australia wide aswell, terrible for West Aussie Customers. In fairness they do tell you if you try to sign up with a Perth address

    • Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne POP. Perth POP in August.

      • +1

Yeah so perth people should stay away till then, even though having a POP at every POI is much better for latency to find the most direct route

  • Not sure how this is a deal. Exetel prices are much better

  • Yeah nah, no deal here

  • https://bgp.he.net/AS151660#_graph4 They have decent peering directly with GSL apparently, if it goes via Perth this is good for playing on EU servers. Depends on their routing table

GSL has essentially the best Perth > EU routing

Edit: according to BGP on test IP it routes 133206 Mel > Syd, THEN GSL (137409), then riot games via Sydney. Doesn’t connect directly to GSL in mel for routing via perth

  • +5

If all you want is basic internet for the cheapest price then this ISP is not for you. Better off heading to Exetel or Superloop. If you want maybe a static IP, a VPN service, a DNS that allows you to block certain content such as ads and other stuff (great if you have kids using the net), and the ability to adjust other settings such as using a policer or shaper (to improve gaming performance) then this ISP is for you. It is not the cheapest with premium transit such as GSL.. but if you join today (Sunday 13th) you can save a few dollars on a couple of plans compared to signing up at a later date. Worth it for those that look to quality.
For those old enough to remember this ISP has a early days "Internode" feel to it.. you guys will know what I mean :)

    • +1

Totally agree. This feels like a good deal for a premium-tier ISP.

I just churned in from ABB for this deal and have been impressed.
