As far as SYD to Japan… you can find direct deals for not too much more than this if you wait a bit until they pop up. In the $900-950 range. International layovers are a drag in my experience

    • +2

Yeah ~$200-300 more for direct is definitely worth it imho.

Otherwise, if you have time, doing a 1-3 day stopover on the way somewhere can be a nice way to break it up. Either by using an official booking like the Singapore stopover or by booking multi-city or separate one-way tickets.

Layover in Guangzhou sucked so much for 4 hrs last year on our tp Vietnam can't imagine 15hrs there

Horrible lounge if you want to stretch legs you have to sit on the floor, very few poer outlets, very few eating options, some grocery stores sell food that's cos I could see only 1 restaurant open at the time
Free wifi but can't even Google search 😂
It was clean but nothing else

      • +6

        Just saying what it is

        • +1

yeah - AirAsia layover of many hours sitting on the floor in KLIA2 not only sucked majorly, but was also uncomfortable seeing many local guys hanging around looking at you, which felt like they were waiting for you to fall asleep so they could steal your bags.

So we pay extra for direct.

    Brisbane :(

  • If it was more than a weeks notice for work I'd give it serious consideration.

You can give your work more than a weeks notice

Appreciate this but 100% of the time I clicked the linked, it gave me a very different date range and price.

Best to treat this post as a guidance of how early you need to book for specific route rather than expectation that what is shown here will be the price you'll get.

I appreciate the effort you put into these posts, but your website is a pain to navigate.

also I won't fly or deal with Singapore airlines again after recent issues we had with privacy and our accounts, so appreciate if you have other airline options, Japan is a great destination for travel.

  • Tokyo, Japan…

  • Which airport does Singapore Airlines fly into? I hear one is much easier than the other in terms of travel from the airport.

  • Anyone know if booking with points you get free returns also?

Japan has become the bogan destination in 2025, will give it a miss this year.

    • Try Korea. Far fewer aussies

    • +1

Heading over again in September for trip number 9. You don't need to travel too far off the golden route to get away from the tourist swarms.

  • Been to Tokyo four times last year, an amazing place to visit all year around.

Should try Singapore Airline next time, heard they are good, but they don’t operate directly from AU to Narita or Haneda, that’s sad though.

  • If you're in Sydney, or anywhere with non stop Japan flights, routing through Singapore to go to Japan is fried.
