Cant you get a GS3 for this price?

    • +1

Not at present I guess. May be after the s4 is launched in March.

    • +8

      Or the Nexus 4…

      • +1

8G Nexus 4 is $60 cheaper even after delivery .

        • +1

          and unlocked.

        • +4

only if the name is iNexus

      • You neg vote the deal, because it's not a nexus 4. Fair enough……

        • +3

because the Nexus 4 is cheaper and better

  • +1

    wow…kidding

  • +9

that's the exact price of a 16gb nexus 4. it's not even android vs ios anymore..we are talking about a three generation old hardware.. there has to be a point where the lowest price for a product isn't considered a bargain anymore. i mean seriously would anyone + a 10 year old feature phone when the lowest price out there is $99?

not taking anything away from the deal of course, i'm sure it's great for those looking for a cheaper iphone. but you'd have to wonder about those buying a 8gb iphone 4 instead of the nexus 4 for the same price.

    • -4

but you'd have to wonder about those buying a 8gb iphone

      Title says 48GB…

      • +7

am i the only one who giggles are jv's bad humour?

        • +5

          i giggled like a girl

      • +4

Don't understand why jv is getting so many negs, he's obviously trolling for the lolz on ozbargain as done many times. He has a great sense of humour!

    • +2

But but but…it an IPHONE!!!!!! lol

    • -8

I for one would definitely prefer an iPhone 4 to a Nexus 4. My iPhone 4 still performs well, takes good photos and pretty much does everything I need. While I don't hate Android, I don't like it as much as iOS. So in my mind it is Android v iOS.

Is this a bargain? I don't particularly think so, but just because something is almost three years old doesn't mean it is bin worthy, especially since Apple has maintained iOS releases for its phones, whereas upgradability of Android is still hit and miss, unless you want to hack it. I used to enjoy things like that, but would rather just use my phone now.

There is something I love about Android though - competition. As I'm not an Apple shareholder, anything that can put pressure on Apple's profit margin is appreciated by me.

      • +1

You have to ask yourself , When did they stop manufacturing these things ?
        I wouldn't want a phone with a 3 year old battery .

        • 3gs was still in production late 2012, so shouldnt be old stock but god knows their source, not touching with 10 foot jv at this price

        • +3

iPhone 4 is still available for sale on Apple's website. These are not 3 year old batteries.

      • +5

no one's saying it's bin worthy, it's just not worth $429

        • furtythree thinks it's bin worthy and I definitely made the point it was not a bargain.

      • +5

this is 2013, any tech that is more than 12 mnths old is bin worthy

we arent improving mobile tech minisculy each year
we are quadrupling processing power each time.

also your first line basically reads like this:

I for one would definitely prefer a phone im already using to a new phone i never experienced hands on. My current phone still performs well, takes good photos and pretty much does everything I need. While I don't hate the other operating system, I don't like it as much as the current phone I am using, because I do not have a reason to upgrade, nor do i have to right to form an opinion on something ive never owned or used.

So regardless of this fact, in my mind im comparing two different operating systems, even though this deal isnt even relevant to me or my needs and I have not used the new nexus 4 that everyone is comparing it with, since it sells for a cheaper price

        ???

        • You are incorrect. I have used a SG3 for many hours and I keep up with all the new phone OS releases. I like the look of Ubuntu phone. Its UI looks spectacular. You know what they say about assumptions? Just because I don't want to throw my phone in the bin after 12 months, or even 3 years does not mean that I am uninformed.

  • +4

Hansel is so hot right now, Hansel….. oops I mean Nexus 4

  • wow i'm surprised there isn't more neg. that price is ridiculous.

  • What's a Nexus? :P

  • +1

2 year old phone for $429 just because it is apple noobs will buy it.

  • This can be unlocked easily thru Telstra itself, should be free of cost as well. I unlocked my 4s from Vodafone to Optus.

    • Yeah I've unlocked my iphone through telstra, its pretty trivial to unlock it though telstra, so much to say I don't know why they bother locking them in the first place(ignoring the obvious reasons)

  • lol some mad apple fanboy is lurking.

  • am I the only one thinking using the $30 credit from iphone to buy Anroid apps?

  • Premium prices for outdated technology isnt a bargain….

  • thanks got 2 from website without credit tho

  • +1

    Old, Expensive
Get a Nexus 4, even if you have to pay a premium.

    • +3

Don't know you would waste your time with an iPhone?
We aren't wasting out time with Android, we are getting value for money and a phone with a decent set of features that doesn't fully fallback on 'apps'.

  • -3

so which is the best selling phone worldwide?

  • -7

    android my like faildroid

  • Please refrain from voting negative simply because you cannot compare an orange with apple. It does not matter how advance/good value Nexus 4 is, it is (1) not an iPhone, and (2) it is not useful to those who wants or needs an iPhone (for example iOS developer or FaceTime to friends).

    • +2

What if its just a bad phone for that kind of money?

    • +3

      I agree.

Too many people using 'Android>Apple' as a reason to neg.

Don't know you would waste your time with an iPhone?

lol some mad apple fanboy is lurking.

just because it is apple noobs will buy it.

Have you people considered the fact that some prefer iOS to Android?

At least link to where you can get an iPhone for similar prices if you're going to neg and not just blindly get on the bandwagon.

I haven't found one hence I didn't neg the deal.

      • If you are gonna criticise someone for their reply. At least read what they are replying to.

        • You replied to Scotty and clearly didn't read what you replied to… So I don't know where you think your going with that point..

  • +1

A lot of money for not a lot of phone.

  • Does this mean we can start negging Apple computers now ?

  • Has anyone forgotten its locked and only 8gb!!!

No deal sorry.. Not a bargain today

  • Isn't iPhone unlocking free now?
    http://www.macworld.com.au/news/unlock-your-telstra-iphone-f…

Also, if you plan on getting it unlocked, this deal saves you $20 (because the credit is for Telstra), as opposed to getting it from the Apple store, but a quick eBay search, shows BNIB iP4 will still sell for cheaper than this deal.

    • Actually not all iPhones are free to unlock with Telstra.. Think there some criteria

  • Yeah you can get any iPhone unlocked free from Telstra as long as you call and tell them your going overseas, having said that this is a single core phone powering a high rez screen, 400+ is a bit high IMO

  • IMHO, only a deal if you are an Apple Fanboi (e.g. my daughter is one who swears by it, loves the simplicity) or wannabe NOOB who do not want to spend the extra money to get an iphone 5. only recently there was a recent kogan post for $619 iphone5 16gb which is more of a deal IMO, because even after you used it, you can easily disposed it after iphone 6 release for a fair $$$, while if you purchase this it will be worth very little once iphone 5S or 6 is out, as it would be 3 generations old LOL…..my 2 cents. I think that is why so many are saying it is not a good deal for what you are paying LOL, but if you must then than so be it! Personally I cannot appreciate the restrictions with IOS and what Apple charges its fan.
    Disclaimer: Android user.

    • My countings not so good, but isn't 4, 4gs, 5 make it 3 gens already? And if you are an apple fan boy, wouldn't you already have an iphone 4?

  • Loving the ios v android debates. As an owner of both, I just don't see this as a deal. Have people seen how the iPhone 4 runs on ios6?

As for the deal itself, $429 incl. $30 credit is Telstra's everyday price for the iPhone 4. Also, my understanding is that Telstra have reintroduced the unlocking fee for pre-paid iPhones although I don't know what they charge now - it used to be $150. No deal for me.

    • My iPhone 4 runs just fine on iOS 6.

I didn't upgrade to an iPhone 4S because the feature set did not look worth the $. And the same for the 5, because I didn't need a bigger screen.

I also didn't dump my phone for Android. I used it for hours. I really tried to like it, but in the end I didn't.

  • Apparently the iPhone 4 runs better on iOS6
    http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/09/24/ios-6-on-iphone-4-fi…

    • Or it can run slower, just depends what you read https://www.google.com.au/search?q=iphone+4+slow+ios+6&aq=2&…

      • I did read a few people saying it was slower. But it seems they are people with limited 'tech' knowledge. Cos I still haven't upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS6 and read into it. More people said their phone ran better in 6 then in 5

        • I did read a few people saying it was slower. But it seems they are people with limited 'tech' knowledge

You don't need to be an expert to tell if the phone is slower/more laggy.
