New 14-inch MacBook Pros were unveiled by Apple during an online event on October 18, 2021. The first generation to be available only with Apple Silicon, this release addressed many of the criticisms of the previous generation by reintroducing the hard function keys in place of the Touch Bar, expanding connectivity options (i.e.: HDMI, SDXC), and supporting multiple external displays. Other additions included a new third-generation MagSafe charging system, a Liquid Retina XDR display with thinner bezels and an iPhone-like notch, a 1080p webcam, a Dolby Atmos sound system, and new Apple Silicon SoC (M1 Pro and M1 Max) with better performance and efficiency.
