Add the ram and storage capacity to the title of Mac deals pls.

It’s ridiculous to pay 2300 bucks for a refurbished MacBook. Apple is a rip off of all its products. They are good but they are way overpriced in Aus. Should boycott Apple.

      • I wouldn’t buy a refurbished again after my 12 inch retina battery died quickly. I was too lazy to being it to Apple for a new battery under warranty, curse my apathy!

        • +5

I think that’s a you problem, not an Apple problem. Batteries go bad sometimes, even in new devices, that’s why there is a warranty.

          • +1

@freefall101: Weird theory. Warranty is a service of after sales. Products need to be tested as functioning normally before being sold to customers!

            • +4

@duodeta: I took “died quickly” as the battery went bust after purchase, not that it didn’t have much life at purchase. Apple do test and rebox their stuff pretty thoroughly. The whole shell and keyboard gets replaced on a refurb laptop.

Being too apathetic to even return a laptop that had a clear warrantable issue is still very weird.

      • Picked up a Lenovo t14 i5, 1tb 40gb ram for 1600. Apple can really ….

        • Let us know if the i5 will beat the M1 Pro, or how the t14 screen compares with the Mini LED, how the speaker sounds vs the M1 Pro, windows trackpad vs a giant glass and probably one of the best trackpad on any latop and how the intel/ windows battery lasts you.

Say what you will but with the new Macs, as a laptop they are much better than windows ones. Apart from "oh this doesn't run - apps and software and ew macOS", the new Macs are decent laptop if had at decent prices.

      • I agree this is too much for a refurb, and that Apple is overpriced generally - although I'm typing this on a 13-inch Late 2013 MBP which is still going strong and meets all my needs (including video editing on FCP).

My daughter's Dell XPS on the other hand gave her two years of constant trouble before she asked for a Macbook.

      • I got this for a similar price last deal, very happy with it, pretty much came brand new and it's an awesome computer that I hope will last me many years. I'm not usually up for paying the Apple tax but in this case I feel it's partially justified depending on your use case.

  • Why do the Mac Pro no longer have the touch power bar?

    • +24

I think that is seen as an improvement by many.

    • +3

Because when you go to press backspace, you accidentally press on the touch bar and wake up Siri.

      • -4

The delete key? How fat are your fingers bro. If you meant the escape key the yea early TouchBar had it incorporated, but the current iteration on 13 inch has a dedicated escape key. I’m also a fan of the touchbar, even though it’s a failure point if the screen gets damaged out of warranty. The shortcuts for apps that come up are very handy.

        • +3

I'm happy that the Touchbar works for you but I don't think even you can deny most people don't like it.

And no I'm talking about the delete key. And no my fingers are not that fat. The delete button is a pretty often used key, and its proximity means I press on the Touchbar by accident sometimes. Might not be often but enough to be annoying. When that happens, whatever video or music I'm listening to cuts out. At this point if I press the Siri button on the Touchbar again, it actually doesn't make it go away (as I would intuitively expect)? I actually have to move my mouse to the top right corner to dismiss it. There are literally hundreds of threads asking for how to remove Siri from the Touchbar because it's so annoying.

If there were actual buttons that have tactile feedback (ie. key press, size of the button, location), this wouldn't really be a problem. The Touchbar is a case of Apple taking something simple and making it unnecessarily complicated, just to be fancy. Yes it added some functions and are far more customizable, but it's something that most people never asked for and never use. The fact that they're moving back to buttons for screen brightness, volume, Siri, etc is proof of them realising that this was overwhelmingly unpopular.

          • @Dr Fruit: If the screen itself were a touchscreen then Apple could make a “touchbar” appear at the bottom of the screen with the same shortcuts. The volume and brightness shortcut i use a lot too, hold your finger on the volume button and slide left or right to fine tune your adjustment. Much better than tapping away at it and changing in 10% increments.

There’s even room for a touchbar above the function keys on the larger macbooks. There’s not even a speaker grill there, plenty of room.

            • +3

@AustriaBargain: Hold down the option and shift keys before adjusting the volume and it will change in smaller increments.

              • +1

@Daabido: I’ll have to remember that for when i upgrade to a larger MacBook without touchbar.

      • That's like waking up your wife

    • +4

I don’t think they were well received. The 14 and new model 16 never had them, the 13 inch still does, or if you’re desperate you can link it with an ipad which can show a Touch Bar when using sidecar

    • Because it was terrible

  • +2

This isn't a deal, is it? Is the product itself cheaper than normal?

    • +2

My work paid around $2700 for one of these from officeworks I think late last year. It was with a 10% discount deal they were doing - so normal price = $3k.

I think is a pretty good deal, considering Apple refurb is basically brand new.

If I was buying one for myself now, I think I'd consider this deal… although I haven't compared all of Apple's current offerings recently.

      • +1

yeah but refurb is not the same as brand new. This is just advertising that it's available. Unless this is cheaper than the usual refurb ones.

        • +5

I kinda get you… but I guess the point of difference is Apple refurb is essentially brand new (from what I understand). I think they treat these purchases as if you were buying it brand new from them.

        • +2

I don't know why you're getting negged. This isn't a deal. It's just referb pricing.

    • +2

It’s the cheapest I’ve seen it at lately, and it is a simple process to get the 10% off with gift cards bringing it down to $2,069.

  • I paid the same price for a brand new one a couple of months ago.

  • +2

Got one of these new for $2047. I wouldn't pay this much for refurb.

That deal is unfortunately no longer available.

    • -3

And you didn’t post it on Ozbargain, what an a$$

      • -1

Yeah I did - its why I had the pic.

      • -4

Not everyone wants to help you , and you shouldn't expect it either !

Got a used one recently for 2100 but with 1TB with 1 month warranty left. Shits on all windows laptop I've used. Battery life is closer to 10hrs but that's still better than anything I've ever used.

    • Out of curiosity, why was the seller selling it? I just expect the seller to keep a good laptop.

      • He reckons he's got too many apple devices including the iPad pro and the MacBook doesn't get used… His loss my gain, but I do see a few others popping up on marketplace around the same price. Would do it again!

  • +2

Still kicking myself for not getting the 64GB 2TB 14 inch M1 Max or 64GB 4TB 16 inch Max from mwave.

    • I’m sure it most like overkill though for your needs? 32gb and 2tb probably do you just fine? 🙂

      • I thought maybe the 4TB might be, but the 64GB I would use. It's nice to leave Photoshop and Illustrator open while working in AfterEffects, like you can change a file linked in AE in PS and it'll update in AE automatically, and AE will eat all the ram it wants and when it's done it'll use SSD for cache, and Photoshop too, basically Adobe will consume ram and storage like a greedy fat pig, just getting fatter if you let it.

    • +1

I heard the battery life suffers with the m1 max if that makes you feel better.

    • Yeah that deal was the GOAT

    • Plenty of numptys struggling to sell them on ebay

      • They’ve all got them listed at 5k though 🤷‍♂️

        • Thats why none have sold

  • It's been this price since January

Awesome deal. I picked one up last month. Best buy ever.. Apple refurbished Mac Pro have brand new screens, batteries, keyboard and casing. Ex display model and saved $900.. comes with all warranties (2yrs and 3yrs for parts) + Apple plus for fixed price repair👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽.
Highly recommend the M1 Pro.. such a huge difference coming from a 2019 intel chipset pro MacBook
New MacBook M2 Air are also amazing.. but pricy.. base 256GB HDD is too slow and small so it is a must upgrade to 512GB.. which bring the price to $2800 for 15”

    Edit
Getting MacBook Pro over Air is worth it for the ProRes screen + SD card + HDMI for second monitor + additional USB C slot 👌🏽
    Pro over Air any day

    • "comes with all warranties (2yrs and 3yrs for parts)"
      not according to apple
"Covered by Apple’s one-year limited warranty"

      • Apple Care + is good enough and is available for refurbished MacBook Pro bought from Apple directly
I got my battery replaced for free on my last refurbished Pro book (Intel chipset) by Apple after almost 18 months.. hassle free

You are also Covered by Australian consumer law if you don’t want to take Apple care.. however smashed screen replacement will cost you a little fortune to replace without Apple care

Someone found caked-on brown substance in a refurbished thing like this and it was quite sus, probably took the laptop to the toilet and brown substance caked on could be from there. Tsk Tsk

    • +1

      It wasn't hash was it ? 👀

  • -1

    Hmm nah

  • $2.2K for an almost-two year old model — used!
    No, thanks.

  • This or 15-inch MacBook Air?

    • +2

This has better connectivity and is $500 cheaper (retail) for the same memory/storage. There might still be some reason for you to prefer the Air, though, you'll find countless youtube videos on the subject.
