Update:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice?utm_source=dx&utm_medium=cdn&utm_…

According to this, they will be rotating the deals throughout the day (800 SKUs with total quantity of 40,000) to cover a bunch of other products too. Check back whenever you can to see if theres anything new!

Update 2:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice/Default/ShoppingList

They have pushed out another list of more items! It does verify the theory that the initial page was for DX AU deliveries whilst this is the International 50% off section. Please be aware that there will be longer delivery times for this since it needs to be shipped directly from China as opposed to the DX AU (which apparently has warehouse in Perth).

Update 3:
Offer is pretty much officially "Ozbargained" with the only remaining stock to be either very specialist products (Spare battery for product x), Seasonal products (Christmas), or stuff that not many people want. The only thing I am hoping for is that they can fulfill all orders so everyone is happy.

DX has subtly stated however, (Broken English) "If the customers who participate in this activity are more than expected which results in lack of product supply, we have to process refund for the oversold items, please kindly understand." which may account for some people's Paypals reported refunded against.

Update 4:

Have to apologise in advance to anyone who doesnt get the stock for this deal. Despite being the OP and putting the order through before others, I have now received a cancellation against my two orders (W8 and PD10). It is seemingly like a lottery to get stock. Very very disappointed. :(

Update 5:

After a disappointing weekend, DX has now come back to affected customers with a voucher that's worth 15% of the original total order. So, if your order was $200, then they will give you back $30 worth as a rebate in compensation to be used in DX. Apparently the stock is still available - but not it has changed to a different SKU but they are offering 15% off the original price. This is pretty beneficial if your original order was expensive (and hence you can get back a higher rebate value) - but typically most would only have done a $200 order with $30 rebated.

The new link is here: http://dx.com/l/au-direct/2013-02/special-items.aspx

As you can see, the deal is nowhere near as good as before. However, it is up to you as an individual to see if it is still good value enough to continue making the purchases.

  • All my 3 orders have now shipped. One (the LED light strip) arrived yesterday and is really good!

I never contacted them through chat, so my theory is that doing so (contacting them) triggered DX to cancel orders maybe?

    • I contacted them about 6 or 7 times on chat, and my PD30 is "In Transit to Destination" :)

The only difference between my order and the ones by other people in the office that got cancelled were that they had multiple AU Direct items in the one order…I only had the one…

      • concur. i contacted them only once. i also only ordered the PD80HD.

Typing on my PD80HD right now on the train. Holy crap android has come a long way since I was first exposed to it years ago. Looks like my iPad will be staying home full time now.

    • what's the battery life like if u don't me asking?

      • Out of the box its got 40% battery, has been keeping me entertained at uni for a good 2 hrs so far. It now shows 26℅. I think after a proper charge it will last longer. A retina screen on a 8000mah battery though, I'm impressed.

        • Great, cheers

  • My other International order (that did go through) is now posted apparently through Singpost.. Interesting how they use different Couriers/Postal offices around..

      • Strange to have time diffs when you would think they would be bundled together

        what state are you in?

        • PD80-HD
          Sydney, CBD

        • Im Melbourne outer suburbs ..

Hopefully it gets on a diff plane overnight

  • I'm finding the PD80HD really terrible at picking up my house's wifi - like, it will only pick it up if I'm in the same room with the router. None of my other devices have this issue!

    • tbh I've never had one of these cheaper tablets do well with wifi, this one is no different.
I can be in places where my old ipod has great reception and these tables have poor or none.

    • Couldn't pickup any wifi signal, same as you. However, I restarted my device and the network magically appeared. Now I'm connected with 3 out of 4 bars !

  • Just got my PD80HD tablet at work, haven't had a chance to play with it completely but for $110 it seems good value. It's my first tablet (and Android too) so I'm not sure what to 'look' for but,

Touch screen was responsive, no lag, everything felt smooth.

The only glitch I noticed was that the main camera seemed to be out of focus even when I tapped to focus. I'm not too fussed though, not my device of choice for photos !

Chinese tablets are known to have wifi issues, try rooting it for better connectivity.

    • yeas, the camera of my tablet has the same issue. but i never use the camera on any tablets i own or owned.

i dont have any wifi issues with this tablet.

    • you mean $110 USD? I paid $116AUD for mine.

      • Yup meant $110 USD. I paid $116 AUD too !

    • Just confirming that I have the same out of focus camera problem in my pd80hd. I wonder if there is a software fix available for this… either way, I don't ever remember using my ipad3's back camera so whatever.

  • Just received my thl w8….pretty good phone and signal strength better than my S2. Quick and easy navigate as other droid phone…overall awesome phone for $118!!!

Also someone mentioned above regarding 'write disk', it capable to write directly to sd card instead of phone storage. No need folder mount necessary…nice one.

    • Yeah just got mine today as well a good upgrade from my very old Nokia xpress music phone lol loving it so far I wish I could get a few for my parents they seem to love it as well.

    • You should do a Speedtest you will find its faster than your S2…

  • Oh Crap, I supposed to get my Andriod TV stick today but my tracking page on Toll says "Attempted Delivery - Consignee Refused Delivery", I guess Toll cannot deliver their stuff to my Parcel Locker…

But my other stuff from Meritline / eBay etc are fine… confused.

    • +1

I had similar issues (we have a building attendee that collects mail), I called toll on 13 51 31 (took about ten minutes to get through) and got someone really nice who is organising re-delivery and put a note to leave it with them.

      • Tks very much for your advice, called them and they redirect my parcel - no hassles at all. :)

  • Received the PD80HD today (Brisbane)….very happy! However, I probably should have bought two, because my gf has been using it non-stop, and I haven't had a chance to play with it yet! :-(

    • +1

I wish the same too. But we were lucky because at least DX delivered them.

  • So the only issue I have found thus far is that I only get sound from the youtube app, works ok in the browser so it might just be app compatibility. Anyone else have this issue?

    • Yup, have the same issue. I'm going to flash it with CM10 soon so let's see how it works then.

      • Cool, please link to the ROM if it works out ok well

        • Are we talking about the Ditter V12 or PD80HD? :)

        • The PD80HD DrStinge :)

      • I'd be interested to know how it runs with CM10, Please keep us informed.

        • Will do, never done it before, so still trying to understand the various terms and methods. Here's the link if anyone else is game too,

          http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/65290-rom-cyanogenmod-10-for…

        • Mine should be here today…

So will be doing this with it..

        • There was great list of steps to take posted on whirlpool when I did the old ZTE v9 from Optus.
Not sure if they would be valid for this model.

        • Ok all done have CM10 on the PD80 now..

        • Nice ! How's it working ? Was it straightforward to install via the instructions on the slatedroid forum ? Anything else we should keep in mind ? Sorry for the barrage of questions ! I'll try it later tonight.

Also with the TWRP we need to install first for CM10, did you have an issue with this ?

"Right now TWRP doesn't support 2048x1536 screen (just 2560x1600 but it's too big and cuts some screen portion)"

        • how on earth? I couldn't get TWRP to work at all (it was unresponsive to touch) and CWM didn't work.

Accidentally flashed the wrong CWM though, pretty sure my device is bricked now. Ah well :D

        • Ok i've only played with it for about 30mins.. but all seems to be running as it is supposed too… Will test video and music in a sec.

Now with TWRP i was stuck on this for ages as the touch screen was non responsive. So decided to leave it for 10mins and then it started responding I did everything even restore back to factory settings…which i had to then get my asian mate to chuck it back to english :)

But after the touchpad became responsive was all smooth sailing. Wifi seems to be nice and strong and quicker.

        • Yeah just leave it for 10ish mins and it starts to respond… :/

        • Also make sure ur ext SD is formatted to fat32 or it wont mount.

        • Naive question, but an external USB (via OTG cable) would work too yes ?

        • Not too sure.. could be a limiting factor of the TWRP boot.

        • Hey Kruz… try this..

          • keep "esc" button pressed
          • connect tablet to pc
          • quick and multiple pressing "on" button
          • pc recognize tablet as the device for phoenix
          • flash fw as usual
          • done :)
        • Hey Jake,
Great to hear CM is working. Can you give us a run down in laymen's terms on how to get it going?
I have downloaded the Cm10, Gapps, And the pd80 compatibility zip.
From my understanding you need to get this into recovery mode and flash it with those files? (I have done similar with an s3). Is TWRP the recovery program? Where did you get this from?
          Am I missing anything?
          Thanks in advanced.

        • Did you use the Ainol Spark or Chuvi v10 download link on the TWRP page Jake ?

        • +1

          Hey Guys,

U have downloaded all the right stuff..

Yeah u need the twrp program to install it. U need to go tinot play store and download the Terminal Emulator and run the commands to install it. You then boot into recovery from the backup and reset option in settings.

The touch screen did not work for about 10mins for some reason. I'm pretty sure I installed spark one but if one does not work, try the other.

Any other questions let me know.

          Cheers,
          Jake

        • I am also trying to get CM10 on my PD80-HD. I have flashed spark TWRP 2.4.4.0 from the slatedroid thread, and have waited for ages, but the touchscreen will not become responsive.

Jake, did you just let the screen turn off while in recovery mode and then come back after 10 mins and hit the power button or escape button? I do this, and I get the swipe to unlock graphic, but I can not unlock the tablet :(

        • +1

Well I just got the touchscreen working in recovery using the Chuwi TWRP version!!! I installed it as per the instructions in the slatedroid thread. Just make sure you type su into the terminal emulator before running the cat command (make sure you see a # in the prompt).

I then rebooted into recovery, waited only a few minutes, the screen turned off. I turned it back on and I could swipe to unlock :D

Hope this helps some of you guys out

        • That will definitely help flagger ! Download Chuwi TWRP version, noted. Do you reckon it's possible to use a USB via OTG cable to flash ROM's ?

        • Mmm not sure. Depends if the drivers for OTG are in the recovery image. However in the install section, only internal and sd card options were available. So that makes me think that's a big fat no :(

        • Thanks, I tried it with the OTG last night but you're right it doesn't show up. A little googling said the TWRP 2.4.4 should have USB OTG support, but it's not showing up for some reason.

        • I installed the Chuwi TWRP version and the screen was only 1/4 of the size of the tablet. Is that what you got too flagger? I have waited for a long time and still unable to swipe to unlock. I have tried both spark and Chuwi already :( Any hints?

        • Yes it was 1/4 the size of the tablet for me too.

Not too sure. I just turned the screen off and I couldn't swipe to unlock initially, but it happened eventually (5-10 mins).

  • +2

2 pd80 orders were refunded annoyingly.

But at the end of the day i got a 10m HDMI, decent torch, jet lighter and a multi card reader for $1.11 after the discount given. I guess i cant complain too much.

  • looks like sydney deliveries taking place now

    • Got delivery of mine at 7:27 am (Sydney CBD) this morning at work. I brought my international adapter with me to work to charge it but it already had 96%. looks good.

The PD80-HD has a flimsy little physical button used as an ESC button. Not sure how long that would last. Other than that I am happy with an otherwise cheap unit that pretends to be a great glorified tablet and so far it does really well :)

Firmware is 4.1.1 and will be upgrading soon.
Camera focus is not accurate as others have reported, ow well…

  • Got mine yesterday.
Battery life maybe 5 hours under heavy use (games, streaming video, tinkering etc).
No auto brightness? Blinding at night.
Had maybe 5 crashes so far, one of which wiped my widgets, icons and some settings.
Happy with wifi reception so far.
    Sound seems fine on mine.
Need to remove the china apps, I get email like notifications of chinese girls.
Nice and fast, touch screen responsive.
Screen looks great. Vivid and crisp.
Build quality is about what I expected, nothing great but at least my screen is straight.

For the price I'm very happy, if it was $200 I would sacrifice size and get a nexus 7.

  • Just received delivery of my PD80HD :) I'm in Brisbane

PS: Has anyone ordered suitable case for this tablet? If yes, can you please provide link from you ordered? Thanks

  • Received my PD80-HD this morning about 7:00 AM ( too early ), signed by receptionist .

Thanks DX, will look forward shopping again .

  • Received PH10HD at work. Played it for a while. Great screen, wifi connection no problem. Really great for that price! Wait for the next 50% off then buy more tabs/phone ;-)

  • -1

Just received my PD80-HD and works extremely well :D

I would love CM10 or any other AOSP/AOKP roms but I've yet to find anything :(

  • Just gotta laugh, having an admin day at home today & some of my DX crap turned up…my Ditter V12 box is minus the bloody Ditter V12 itself…not happy! :s

    • +2

Hahaha they read your Turing test comment!

  • Got my THL W8 yesterday…it's only been a day, but so far no issues. Very quick and am impressed with pretty much everything.

I thought about flashing a new ROM on it, but I think i'll just leave it stock for now - the stock ROM really isn't too bad.

Wish I had bought two now!

  • My PD80 just arrived at Port Melbourne hub at 9:06 this morning. Been checking every half an hour hoping it will change to "Out for delivery" :(

    • same here, i think it will be tomorrow.

      • In the same boat! .. tomorrow fingers crossed

        • Same. Tomorrow!

        • Out for delivery today…
          just got it at home.

  • Anyone know how to put the PD80-HD in Recovery Mode to backup rom or flash new ones. You would need a volume rocker, there isn't one on the tablet !!

  • Just got the w8 phone, how do i flash this with latest android like my motorola defy+?
Is there a tutorial posted on here somewhere?

Also since its a samsung s3 clone, can you use s3 covers too??
