Deal Extreme offering 50% off a huge selection of items!!

There's Quad Core Tablets (under $100)
http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd30-quad-core-8-ips-capacitive-s…

Exynos 7" tab for $88
http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd10hd-7-ips-exynos4412-quad-core…

THL W8 Quad Core phone ($116)
http://dx.com/p/thl-w8-android-4-1-quad-core-bar-phone-w-5-0…

Update:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice?utm_source=dx&utm_medium=cdn&utm_…

According to this, they will be rotating the deals throughout the day (800 SKUs with total quantity of 40,000) to cover a bunch of other products too. Check back whenever you can to see if theres anything new!

Update 2:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice/Default/ShoppingList

They have pushed out another list of more items! It does verify the theory that the initial page was for DX AU deliveries whilst this is the International 50% off section. Please be aware that there will be longer delivery times for this since it needs to be shipped directly from China as opposed to the DX AU (which apparently has warehouse in Perth).

Update 3:
Offer is pretty much officially "Ozbargained" with the only remaining stock to be either very specialist products (Spare battery for product x), Seasonal products (Christmas), or stuff that not many people want. The only thing I am hoping for is that they can fulfill all orders so everyone is happy.

DX has subtly stated however, (Broken English) "If the customers who participate in this activity are more than expected which results in lack of product supply, we have to process refund for the oversold items, please kindly understand." which may account for some people's Paypals reported refunded against.

Update 4:

Have to apologise in advance to anyone who doesnt get the stock for this deal. Despite being the OP and putting the order through before others, I have now received a cancellation against my two orders (W8 and PD10). It is seemingly like a lottery to get stock. Very very disappointed. :(

Update 5:

After a disappointing weekend, DX has now come back to affected customers with a voucher that's worth 15% of the original total order. So, if your order was $200, then they will give you back $30 worth as a rebate in compensation to be used in DX. Apparently the stock is still available - but not it has changed to a different SKU but they are offering 15% off the original price. This is pretty beneficial if your original order was expensive (and hence you can get back a higher rebate value) - but typically most would only have done a $200 order with $30 rebated.

The new link is here: http://dx.com/l/au-direct/2013-02/special-items.aspx

As you can see, the deal is nowhere near as good as before. However, it is up to you as an individual to see if it is still good value enough to continue making the purchases.

    • I thought I read earlier in this thread that some people that used Paypal are also getting asked for verification? It's strange how they are doing this. It appears to be pretty random at the moment. I paid via Paypal, but I'm still expecting one of these e-mails.

    • PayPal also need verification.

      • yep, if you don't have a verified paypal account they typically get you to do this to stop fraud… just another way that they can string the delivery times out!!!

I vowed that i'd never used them again due to the couple month delays in orders, however, will see how we go with the AU warehouse.

        • In total, I did 4 orders - 3 credit card, 1 paypal :
Paypal straightway processed and 3 credit cards need verification. Anyways,Bargain has its strings attached..

        • actually my PayPal is verified, so i don't know why they need evidence.

        • May be they want some customers to give up as they have likely over sold.

  • Mine says - Payment verified. Order is being processed.

    • Same i guess our accounts has been verified before.

Got dragged away after I purchased a $35 tablet. Just wanted to say thanks op

  • Pardon my ignorance but would this faucet be compatible with standard Australian sinks?
    http://dx.com/p/modern-chromed-copper-waterfall-sink-faucet-…

    • i am looking at that too, but something doesnt look right… where do you attach the two inlet pipes? it should have something on the bottom like this one to attach them to http://dx.com/p/3-color-6-led-digital-water-temperature-visu… look at the pic for the underside of the tap.

if i cant see the bottom of the base, im not buying…

    • I've not heard of any compatibility problems with the sink hole size.
At $34 I'd risk it. You can always add a washer, or punch a bigger hole, but I don't think it will be needed.

More of an issue is the 1/2" thread on US hoses is slightly different to BSP standard here, and might need an adapter.

      • That's what I'm afraid of. Would you know if the adapters are readily available here?

        • +1

im sure ive seen them at bunnings, but more connections means more places a leak can occur

        • Cheers for that. I might pass on this one, then.

        • I got a kitchen mixer from one of these places. Not this style but they do have the one i bought.

Had no issue attaching it, no leaks at the connection points.

        • ok, bit the bullet… time will tell

        • LOL, I ordered one as well. Good luck to us!

  • Wait, how come this deal is now listed as expired here when the site states ends on the 20th?
    http://dx.com/mayhalfprice/Default/ShoppingList

    • Most of the stock is pretty much sold out from the sale with the exception of the stuff that most people dont want. It has been said that the sale starts on the 15th (for both the Aus and International sales) but finishes on the 20th or whenever they are out of stock.

      • Yeah, you're right. I just had a browse of the remaining available products and they're all crap, LOL.

NB: I'm partly relieved that the good items are all gone. I've been buying too many items from these ozbargain deals lately :-).

  • got confirmation that my order has shipped. … not to get all the tablet order people's hope up… as I only got a dual sim adapter, but at least they seem to be shipping quickly.

    • I'm not getting my hopes up. I've just been reading the Deal Extreme thread over at Whirlpool, and I've now embracing the shipping nightmare which is likely to ensue over the coming weeks.

    • my less $3 xbox controller battery pack has been "fully shipped", but not the tablet.

    Nice tablet
posted by oagers on 13:22:44 G4T 18/04/2013 certificated customer
Involvement Level: Expert (understands the inner workings)
Pros: Great tab that does what it says. Nice resolution 2048 x1536. The screen works very well. The tablet is very responsive and has a great processor. Can play 3 videos at the same time on the screen.
Cons: The tablet can not be charged from the microUSB port. The screen has bubbles in the glue but only on the edges, not on the visible screen. The battery is not 8000 mAh.
Other: Very good ta considering price, if you are looking powerful tab look no further.

Bad news for those of us that got the PD80HD tablets - If we do end up getting them at all. These do not charge via the micro usb port. :(

    • +1

Maybe his USB charger was not strong enough. Maybe with USB3 to Micro you have more juice. Also If you have tthe tablet on, it drains more then you can load via USB. So let's not give up hope just because of 1 person's comment.

      • +1

Unfortunately this is a common problem across many tablets, in that its just not feasible to charge by USB.

        • a 20cents adapter from dick smith can fix it.at least i use it to charge my ipad on laptop.

        • -1

drains more then you can load via USB

Smart devices within the last 2-3yrs require at least 1A consistent current to adequately charge. Try charging a '12-'13 device, goes nowhere…500mAh off usb just doesn't cut it anymore (its possible with everything off, but takes nearly 10hrs+ depending on batt. capacity). 2A+ is preferable (don't go overboard or you'll fry ur device).

        • +4

Don't worry about getting a higher-current charger. The device will only take what it can handle. That's why you can safely charge a .. '09-'11 500mA device with a 2A charger with no problems.

    • This problem is endemic to many tablets. The problem is that the tablet batteries are too large to get much charge from USB. Even if you could use USB, the standard provides 500 mA so 8000 mAh would take 16 hours to charge. And USB 3.0 has two variants, the low-power 150 mA and the high-power 900 mA. If it was 8000 mAh then it would take around 9 hours to charge. These calculations are also assuming that 100% of the charge goes into the battery.

A phone battery is around 1600 mAh so only takes around 3-4 hours by USB. That's reasonable. But it's much better to use wall power for tablets.

      Even Apple reports this issue:
"The USB ports on most computers do not provide sufficient amperage to properly charge the iPad." http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060

      • That's why I charge my Nexus 7 over night.

      • Any idea how many amps the wall charger would output for the PD80HD?

        • Look on the charger. My HP touchpad has a 2.1 A charger iirc. Most tablets should come with a ~ 2A 5V charger.

        • The DX specs say 3A.

    • Everyone knows that to charge a tablet you need at least a 1,000 mA charger, preferably 2,000 mA. USB2.0 standard, and what comes out of your computer's USB2.0 port is only 500 mA (USB3.0 from your PC should be 900 mA). Heck even a lot of mobile phones charge agonizingly slowly if you try to charge over a computer's USB2.0 port.

    • Saw this and checked the description over a few tablest - on charginig methods those that can be charged via USB will state so. I ended up buying the PD30 over the 80 because of this.

  • I paid via PayPal and they wanted a) copy of license b) copy of paypal transaction history and c) a copy of my profile section within paypal (they also wanted the scan of front and back of my cc used within paypal, doesnt this defeat the purpose of paypal?) - so i didn't do the last part. Sent it all in, and "payment verified/confirmed".

Now awaiting the dispatch of my 3 tablets.

    • They didn't ask me for any of this, i paid by paypal.

However i only spent $15 since all the stuff i wanted was sold out by the time i got around to buying.

So i guess they only require that if you spend a certain amount…

      • I think it depends on if you have had transactions with them before. I didn't and many other didn't get asked either.

        • i have been buying off them for 10 years… they better not ask me…

        • It was a $220+ first time order. Maybe to protect themselves against claim backs from paypal to ensure the address entered in paypal was the same as the address entered in the site when signing up?

        • I think they only do this check if you are a 1st time buyer that spends over 'x' of $ set by them (ie. large sums) to prevent scammers (using stolen CC's). I'm thinking the line was drawn at $200 as I used a new dx acc. & spent ~$150, paypal'd & my order has been fully processed.

        • Funny how I paid via paypal and they said "If you paid via Paypal and with a credit card, please scan the front and back of the cc" -

My question, is there any way a merchant knows what method of payment you used when initiating a paypal payment? (ie, paypal balance or credit card)? I know the merchant knows when it's coming from the bank as the merchant gets an "echeque" and has to wait.

        • They won't ask regular customers!

        • is there any way a merchant knows what method of payment you used when initiating a paypal payment?

Yep, click on details of relevant transaction & scroll to the bottom of the page. Under 'Funding Type' it states where the funds were derived from & 'Funding Source' which shows the amount each source contributed to overall payment.

    • +1

      I paid by Paypal.

Then they ask me for a copy of Paypal Trsaction and a copy of paypal profile section.
I submit online as per their request.

Now they said "it's not enough, we need a photo of your license".

Anything else that they might ask????? So far, it's probably enough information for them to use it to open a bank account or a credit card account on my behalf already !

      • wonder if you could contact paypal and complain as thats the whole paypal thing - dont have to give them your CC details, i wonder how much of it is them buying time so they can get more items in…

Coupon still works for Au Direct stuff (I tried it on the 5m HDMI cable).
Might be worth keeping an eye out if they restock.

    • restock yes, but in full price most likely.

    • which 5m hdmi cable would that be?

  • Just FYI

    Hi all,

First of all, thank you for ordering from our Au Direct.

Yes, you're right, we don't have a warehouse in Aus, we sent the products from China directly by Toll Express.

And as the package was deliver by Toll Express directly from us to you, so we have added some shipping fee in the prices, that's why the products in AU Direct is expensive than normal products.

And for the shipping, it usually take 4-9 days, you can check the FAQ for your reference:

    http://cs.dx.com/FAQ/Detail/110

Sometimes the package will delay for a few days due to stock shortage, but if your package has be delayed, you can contact us to check the package, we will follow up for you.

Thank you for your support with our AU Direct and we are appreciated for your feedback.

    Happy New Year 2013!

    Best regards

    • Happy new year mate! :P
For anyone who has the Mele F10 Fly Mouse, is it still worth it to get it at $25?
      Cheers

    • Yea thought so, spoke to them on Chat this morning and well he said 7-10 days even for AU Direct, he also consoled me "plz don't worry, it will be ok soon in few days"… hmm ok Thanks ! lol

      • Usually AU direct is pretty quick, 1-2 days processing time and 3-4 days delivery time.

        • Yup got 3 torches delivered to me within 4 days via AU Direct, but I guess a sale of this magnitude must have been a shock of some proportion to them…, never really seen "sold out" mentioned on their website before…

  • Missed out on the Free Lander PD80-HD
    sigh…

  • Has anyone received the shipment details?

    • i have, mine was shipped out on wednesday

      • hey in your order details on your account page under shipping method.. did it say super saver or something else?

  • Just got an email telling me that my payment has been received and they are preparing my PD80 for shipment :)

    • Do you need to give all the 3 materials they need ?

At this stage , my payment is confirmed but still received an email for another 2 materials .

    • Nice. Has anyone else gotten an email confirming that their item is being prepared?

I think they have killed the tablets market in Australia. At least for while that no one would be buying any tabs from local online site or retailers.

    • Yes, the Apple store will be laying off staff.

      • +1

        I won't buy Ipad anyway .

  • Anyone had there THL W8 shipped?

    • one of my THL W8 order gets canceled

    • +1

Nope nothing yet, I bought it within 5-10 mins of this deal being posted on OZB…

Tomorrow being the 3rd day we should see some changes…(Hopefully)

      • My case is a bit special and I'm filing a case for appeal the CC Identity Verification, they cancel my order because I paid it with a Disposable Single Load Prepaid Credit Card with no name on it. They said it can't proof the person in use after I upload a photo of the card as they requested..

      • sadly i didnt do this, i ordered in the middle of the day!

      • I also ordered within the few first few minutes, and 2 of my other orders have been shipped yesterday.

      • Yeah my AUDirect order hasn't been shipped yet ("Payment Confirmed") but my separate "normal" DX order has been ("Full Shipment" status)

        • same

        • How do you tell which order is AUDirect? I ordered the THL W8 phone. Also status "Payment Confirmed".

      • +1

Yeah.. I wrote this deal and my order is still "Payment verified, Order is being processed".

Hopefully the virtual queue will move along tomorrow and everyone's happy..

        • ditto

  • DX updated the promo page, showing the following:
"Dear Guests, Please allow us to apologize to all of you who didn't catch the chance to simply place an order before all the items run out of stock, due to the unprecedented discount and limited quantities. We promise such promotions will come one by one. Please stay tuned! " Not sure whether this means there will be more waves coming?!?

  • For those who ordered the Freelander PD80HD, I just saw this on Banggood website for this product.

"Note: Because of the insufficient compressive capacity of the original package, the tablet screen is easy to be crush during the transport. So the tablet will be pack in a new package,we will use foam box instead of original packaging in order to reduce price and keep our price as competitive as possible. After cautious consideration and test,we believe the foam box is more resistant to rough handling. Moreover, our foam box will be improve".

    http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Freelander-PD80-Quad-Core-…

Cross-finger, hopefully nothing happens to my order when I receive it.

    • DX offers a 12 months warranty, even they sell it at 60% discount, they still making money from us.

Any retailers in Australia offer discount up to 80% and still making money from their customers!

      • ? It depends on commodity + shipping cost .

        • DX pays $1 per order to China Post and $2 to Toll Express.

        • How do you know this? They must be selling most things at a loss then, if that is the case for items under or just over $1?

        • The cheapest product at DX is above $1.00 and add another tracking number cost you another $1.70 = $2.70. They sure making big money! I read the newspaper, company like DX makes over USD$100M a year in profit.

      • I am not sure if they are making any money on this sale of theirs. I have a particular feeling that the AU stock sale is to promote the local dropshipping service from Perth, with the International one just as a clearance sale possibly.

        • +1

Most likely just a-typical routine clearing of old models/inventory to make storage space for new stock. Better to sell for less than not sell at all (ie. cutting their losses).

        • I don't think so, especially with the P80 tablets and the W8 phones

        • end of financial year rapidly approaching ;)
