The number does appear here: http://content.time.com/time/partners/sia_sg/12kris_flyer_tf…

But that's the only place I can find it, and it's a random Singapore Airlines offer. Very strange…

      • Interesting, where did you find this, how old is it

        • Offer expired in 2012, maybe this is a real number but they have removed it since and the op didn't realise

        • I found it by googling, but can't find it linked from anywhere, only as a standalone pdf.

        • +1

Wolfgang Pauli are you able to phone the Times number we know is legit and ask them about the offer? I can't until I leave work…

        • +2

It might be a good idea, though I am still an ozbargainer and I don't like making international calls on my mobile too often.

I'm convinced that this deal is a fake, I've given people enough info to decide for themselves (I could still be wrong but I'm not taking the risk)

If someone else wants to verify the number give it a shot, I am still interested to see what happens.

        • +1

Yes I'm worried enough to call to freeze my cc as soon as I finish work. Thanks for your help so far, will watch this space.

  • I'll probably pass on this offer for now… looks kinda suss.

  • I read about the offer in my break and clicked on the offer though didn't finish it. Once in the bus going home I completed a subscription without coming back to this site. Oh dear not looking good. No confirmation email. Has anyone called time customer service yet?

    • I did, see above

      • Just read it!

        • I just called the number, 1800 427 382, did get through after a bewildering menu, but normal for most large companies. Spoke to a not too friendly, nonplussed woman. Said I have just subscribed to an offer I think the site is dodgy. I then asked about any offers in Aust and what were they, she rattled off the details of the offer. Asked why no confirmation she said takes 24/48 hours. Still dont know, but the off service probably should instill some confidence. Being kind would give you a better sence of legit. will call card co. now.

        • +1

          Card suspended.

  • +1

Okay!… signed up but the email hasn't come and its been 3 hours already. Should I freeze my account right now ?

    • +2

I would, either that or cancel your card. But it's up to you, I might just be paranoid

      • +1

Same I'm a bit paranoid. Mmmmm..

        • Then why did you sign up?!

        • +2

Cause I thought it was legit! until I read the comments.

  • +6

I have just cancelled my card. This all looks too suss to me. This thydzik guy and the sweet1313 guy above seem to be "working together". I suggest to everyone else who has signed up to cancel your card immediately. Not worth it.

  • +1

I haven't cancelled my card and going to wait and see how it turns out. Banks cover for this sort of thing if it does turn out to be a scam right? thydzik has been a member for quite a while. Would like to see the original email though.

  • +1

cancelled my card too…I smell a rat..

  • +1

I froze my account as well. Just to be sure.

  • +1

I recommend getting an AusPost load n go card to make purchases to avoid risking your credit card details. :)

  • Oddly enough when I go to time.com and select the customer support (get official clarification), domain shown as https://secure.customersvc.com/servlet/Show?WESPAGE=td/home.…

So it's pretty much related to the link in here as well. So it may be a legitimate offer but I'm holding my cc to frozen until they start asking for details for my payment or at lease might email directly to time.com later.

  • This same address was posted before in a deal for Time from January this year. Seems legit.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/129708

    • yes but no one commented that they took them up on the offer

      • What I implied was that the site has been there at least as far back as January and has not been flagged as suspect as far as I can find. I may be wrong of course but I subscribed as well.

    • +6

Guys guys guys, seriously you all are so paranoid. I had posted the above deal 6 months back and I had myself subscribed. The URL in the current deal is similar.

TimTimesubs url are used to give out deals and handled by an overseas call Centre.
So go ahead and don't cancel your CC. You will get an email within 48~72 hours from Time South Pacific with all the subscription details.

  • thanks OP.

  • +4

    SCREW ALL THIS.
As someone who has bought in on this deal and at least has a decent posting history I'm going to get to the bottom of what the hell is going on. Talks of collusion and a dodgy-ass website - this needs some serious clarification.

    • +1

Thanks mate, I've cancelled my card. Nevertheless, curious to see what you find.

    • +3

Try calling the official number on the time.com website and ask them about this deal, that is where I stopped searching

      • What did you get out of the call?

        • i only called the number given by op, it seemed incredibly dodgy, I stopped before calling the official support number

      • yes calling the official number and asking them to confirm the deal might be a good start

      • +13

I dialled this number and spoke to two different consultants. I called twice for verification purposes.
        +31 20 487 42 32
        From this website

This is a UK source. Both times (I spelled out the letters of the URL) I confirmed the parent URL of OP's link and it is legitimate

https://www.timeasiasubs.com/ This link is legitimate, according to two TIME consultants

The Australian Customer Service number provided by the two TIME consultants is "currently switched off"

        (02) 8925 3811

But they also gave me this number, which "OPTUS advises has been disconnected"

        1800 813 579

I have also e-mailed STUDENTVIP [email protected] regarding this matter - as to whether or not it is legitimate.

8:06PM As both numbers from the TIME consultants are dead, I'm re-calling them now to ask for an explanation, and other contact means for Australia.

        • Maybe it's out of office hour? Hence unable to contact? Please let us know how it goes!

        • +9

I managed to get one of the same consultants who provided me with the two numbers and asked them why they're not working - they didn't have an answer and didn't give me any further numbers to chase up.

Both numbers are as they are: "currently switched off", and "has been disconnected".

I guess I'll have to try again tomorrow, but I think I'm out of options unless I dial the American TIME

8:17PM Dialed this number which I found based on OP's link click-throughs, this phone number is responsible for all Customer Service Enquiries in Australia and is based on Hong Kong:

          0011 852 3128 5688

I missed the mark by 17 minutes, service was closed. This phone number is confirmed legitimate, according to this PDF document. The PDF document also lists off a tonne of other countries to dial, but at this point in time I'm satisfied to safely conclude that the URL link www.timeasiasubs.com is legitimate.

Take everything I say with a grain of salt. Wait until I or someone else gets that e-mail from STUDENTVIP - do as you wish for those on the fence, that's all the evidence I can offer for now.

        • +1

Good work, I might be wrong, though I'm just going to wait a bit.

I tried going to the time.com website and starting a new subscription from there (hoping to find somewhere to put the promo code) but I couldn't find the offer there.

        • +6

          Confirmed as a legitimate deal.

There was no collusion between the OP and this user. I'm currently on embargo from my source, I can't reveal any further details until approval but I can guarantee that this is safe, and not a phishing scam.

I'll provide the full details when/if I'm given permission, but it's safe to conclude that this deal came from a reputable and safe source.

        • Thanks for the hard work bossmode! Everything points to legit. I had sent an email to [email protected] already, and received a reply today. See reply below.

Here's the gift you get inplace of the Exclusive Backpack:

Our marketing department has therefore arranged to provide a substitute gift (Laptop Bag), which is now in our delivery system, of comparable value for affected subscribers. Kindly allow 4 to 6 weeks to arrive.

I'm going to fire an e-mail back at them asking about the executivity of this bag, and whether or not it rivals that of the Backpack

        • +2

grumble, i don't want another laptop bag.

I got this for the backpack

        • +2

They finally got back to me. Lo and behold, the almighty laptop bag.

An excerpt verbatim, if you will:

Stylish design combined with quality craftsmanship makes this Laptop Bag perfect companion for everyday office travel or around the town adventures. This spacious bag offers the grab-and-go convenience with features that include:

          • A fully padded laptop compartment
          • A Large main compartment
          • Adjustable shoulder strap
          • Ample internal organization and pockets
          • Front pocket & padded carrying handle
          • Size: 40cm x 29cm x 10cm
  • Has anybody checked their cc account to see if the money had been debited? Even it may not show up in transaction history yet, the amount is deducted from 'available to spend'.

    Mine hasn't debited yet.

    • I called mine tranx hasn't shown up yet.

    • Not mine but I've freeze my cc. The thing is, the website didn't ask for security pin code (normally found at the back of the card) so should be safe, but I could be wrong.

      • Yeah I thought CCV is usually required as well

        • Not all of them, there are ones that don't require ccv

  • I called the bank to freeeze my cc, they said freeze won't work as it only freezes physical card and online payments will still go through. Don't want to cancel the card as it is linked to all my auto debit accounts.

    • Well, just to be specific, can say that my cc was put on hold so haven't really tested it but should rest assured that my card is INFACT frozen. Nevertheless going to check every now and then.

  • No email so far. And nothing has been debited from my bank account.

I remember subscribing to Time , many many years ago (probably the 90's) and the deal was something similar.
Super cheap price and a gift (I think it was a watch), but only 6 months sub then back to normal price. I guess it was to sucker you in to subscribe.
I imagine that this deal is the same and not scammy.

any deals going on Penthouse Magazine?

  • just called nab to put my card on hold :S

  • +2

Would love to order once we can get some kind of confirmation on this.

  • +1

    Waiting..

  • Still no email from this company. Will update once I get confirmation.

  • +4

    I'd hazard a guess it's legit…

Promo code doesn't work when Hong Kong is selected. This is usually overlooked by scammers.

    Also, I found this:
    https://www.timeasiasubs.com/timeopenhouse/ANZ.php
While I don't have any backlinks, it's offering people free trials (without CC info).

Update: Time Japan (time.co.jp) links to this site for subscriptions. I'm feeling safe now.

    Look familiar?

Guys guys guys, seriously you all are so paranoid. I had posted the previous timesubs deal 6 months back and I had myself subscribed. The URL in the current deal is similar.

Timesubs url are used to give out deals and handled by an overseas call Centre.
So go ahead and don't cancel your CC. You will get an email within 48~72 hours from Time South Pacific with all the subscription details.

  • +1

If you guys are with commbank, using netbank you can easily stop overseas and online transactions temporarily without cancelling your card. Just until we verify this!

  • +4

Can't believe how many people have canceled and frozen their cards even tho the site is registered to Time Inc. Lololololol

    Can't wait for my backpack!

    • -4

You do know you'll be negged to oblivion right?

      • The points don't matter. The fact the site is registered to Time Inc. matters.

  • Sitting on one's fence #1 … happy to wait and see how this all pans out.
Very much dislike websites that insist on credit cards and no PayPal … they lose my business.

    • +1

And because of paranoid and privacy freaks like us it is Paypal and eBay throw all the fees which end up being passed on to us. What's the max that can happen, you can file a chargeback. Unless we have scammers here who raises charge backs every month, the money is available immediately back to CC.

  • +2

Well I just went on the link again and went through the enrolment process using fake details. On the payment page it at least uses a legitimate VeriSign (Norton Secured) SSL certificate. This should mean that it is all good, as VeriSign would authenticate and verify the owner/company before issuing the certificate.

That being said I am still wondering why I have not received a confirmation email yet….

    • Someone already said, the confirmation email will be arriving 48-72 hours.
I don't remember if I had seen that note when I made the purchase though.

    • I'm still holding my breath until I get a contact from Times. Otherwise, putting my card on hold indefinitely (or probably cancel it)

  • +2

Just gone through the whole subscription process, it seems legitimate to me.
Checked on the US version subscription process, pretty much the same.
I don't think a scammer can make it so real. Plus, as being said, we can always file a chargeback from CC company if they turned out to be fraud.

  • +2

Works, tried the account number, confirmed can read all Time subscriber content on their website.

So - your email confirmation, is that from you purchasing this advertised offer?
If so, why does it say for 12 issues when the original offer is for 27?

      • yeah bought from this offer yesterday - not sure why it says 12 issues, will email back and find out.

  • hopefully a few more of us will receive confirmations soon

  • +4

Just got three emails with all the details and online account infos to access the online version.

    ALL GOOD!!!!

The bad news is that they ran out of the backpack and will send a comparable gift. Oh well… :)

    • Proof? Screenshot? Or it never happened :p (You can always censor your personal details)

    • Does your confirmation e-mail say 27 or 12 issues? Need clarification on this too. A previous post has found that they were only entitled to 12 when we paid for 27.

When/If I get this e-mail myself, I'll probably follow up with them as to what 'gift' will be given in place of the bag, in addition to the 27/12 issue. I was really looking forward to having some sort of a storage facility to keep all that toilet paper safe though.

      • You're gonna use the free bag to store the "toilet" paper?

  • Ok, because you ask so nicely…. ;)

  • still waiting for mine

  • looks good (not sure about the backpack being out of stock)…
will wait for the emails to come!

    Thanks guys!

    • Last time I was meant to get a Time USB stick and that was out of stock so they sent me some generic one. Same might happen for generic backpack

  • Also got the "Your TIME Account is now Active" email (even though I cancelled my card yesterday).

  • Got my confirmation email that my account is activated. I've also lift the temporary hold on my card. All good!

  • Got the three confirmation emails, defrosted card.
Would add a screenshot if I could but this site is hopeless for that.

  • I think offer is real.
I just received a bunch of emails confirming the order. It had links to setup the online account.
I'm now logged in with the iPad and can download this month's edition.

PS. it seems that they have run out of the bag. They sent me an email saying that I will be getting something else.

  • +2

out of stock backpack = dealbreaker

  • No emails yet. Still waiting…

  • Well it's looking a lot better now, but that initial number provided by op (1800 427 382) is definitely dodgy, I recommend calling it during office hours to check it out for yourself, when I called the lady on the other end sounded identical to the answering machine voice, and when I asked if I could speak to another call representative she said that she is the only one in the call centre, the others are all in a meeting.

I might get one of those Australia post cards, only put $27 on it and sign up to this deal

  • +2

anyone else not received emails yet?

    • +1

You'll get them eventually, even I received mine. For anyone else disappointed in not receiving the elusive backpack I've put in an enquiry to see just what exactly they believe is an item "of comparable value".

    • I don't have mine yet either.
